I was in and out! Decided to try different bars tonight. When I think of cheers, i thought of the show! However its not like the show lol. Outside has a tiny seating area. Inside had lots of pool tables. It felt more like a billiard. Everyone seems to be regulars. Everyone was into their own thing. Its a bit unkept inside and smelled. Very interesting neighborhood bar where you can grill in the middle of the establishment! I would love to see that in action. They have two pool tables, a shuffleboard, steel-tip dart boards, and a DJ bumping loud music! The music was too loud for how big the bar was. It was pretty dead when I went on a Friday night, so we took advantage of that and played shuffleboard and darts. The bartenders were friendly and accommodated our large group with drinks. My Modelo beer tasted flat, though. While hanging out in the bar, the people were on the older side and a bit weird. We interacted with them, and honestly, it felt off, so it says a lot about the crowd that it attracts. read more

Went through a stint (drinking lightly) again briefly last year after I lost my job (laid off). I enjoyed this bar. The ambiance was nice, friendly, and they were family oriented (homely) towards me. Easily the worst experience I've ever had going to a bar. We were racially discriminated against and physically pushed out of this place when staff and management were at fault. I came here with some friends after watching the lakers game at a place across the street. Everything was ok at first. We got drinks, played shuffleboard/darts, and were able to hang out. Towards the end of the night we bought one last round of drinks. Shortly after, the security guard came up to us and snatched the drinks out of our hands and said we needed to leave. I noticed the bartender was still serving drinks to other people at the bar, and a couple people were served shots after 2am. When we said we wanted our money back for the drinks taken from us the staff started speaking to us in a very disrespectful manner. There was a girl who was clearly a frequent customer and friends with staff/management who then physically started pushing us out of the door. There was a group of several people in there who were friends with staff/management who stayed inside of Cheers when we were kicked out. Security threatened to ban us from Cheers even though we were harrassed and their bartender illegally served drinks after 2am to other customers. What's frustrating is the complete lack of accountability for this entire situation. We will never be coming back here again after giving them our being business and doing nothing wrong only to be treated that way and racially discriminated against. read more

I looked for several months to find the perfect place to have my girlfriend's "40th" birthday celebration. Cheers ended up being the perfect place! Cheryl (the owner) was always easy to reach as she worked with me for months in making sure the party was special. She was easily able to accommodate all of my requests from hiring the birthday girl's favorite band to play (The Innocent Bystanders), putting up as many decorations that we wanted, bringing in our own food, storing the cake in their fridge and even turning off all of the lights for a "surprise"! Met up with some co-workers here a few months ago after work because this is one of his favorite watering holes. No frills, nothing fancy and a good little casual spot to grab beer and bar grub. This is your classic dive bar and I must say the bartendress who was serving up drinks and tending to the customers was a rockstar all on her own. Definitely a bit dated which is a non-issue. Service: no complaints here. Burgers: you can grill your own burger and not complain about it if it's burnt up because you, sir, were the chef. They serve up other bar food as well. One of my co-workers had the Garden Burger and said it was pretty good. If you've indulged too much on food and beer, get yourself a free pass to the neighboring 24 Hour Fitness and walk a mile on the treadmill to redeem yourself. Don't forget to hydrate. read more

I bought a Groupon for two burgers and chips. I thought to myself not bad of a deal. So my girlfriend and I went on a weekday night because you can't use it on band nights. Anyways, right when we entered it was really dark. There were a few dudes at the bar and a female bartender. Immediately I felt unwanted. No hello. No nothing. I thought to myself okay, no worries. So we sat for like 10 mins while the regulars enjoyed their drinks. We waited and waited. Nothing. So we got back up and left. There are way better local bars to go to. This place will always have a special place in my heart. I'm not entirely sure what the phrase "dive bar" means, but I think this place qualifies. I went in to do some work on my laptop, and was almost blown backward when I opened the door by high-volume Metallica. I walked cautiously through the dim lighting past the shuffleboard table to the bar. As I approached, one huge guy was shouting across the bar to another huge guy, "I once drank six beers in 40 seconds!" (this place is right next to a 24 hour fitness, so I imagine they get a lot of huge guys in there.) The bartender looked at me like I was totally out of place. But she was fine with that. I ordered a beer - she asked for my ID, and she had difficulty believing it; it was the first time this had happened since my 50th birthday, and that is one of the reasons I will always have a special place for this bar in my heart. I got a beer and went to the porch to do some work. After a while I felt hungry, so I asked them if I could get something to eat. She said the grill wasn't going to be open for 40 minutes, but I could grill my own burger inside. This sounded like fun, but I didn't really have the time to do that, so I said I could wait. She went in the back and they opened the grill early just for me. And I got one of the best hamburgers - nothing fancy, just great, well-cooked meat, like my dad used to make. So this place is now the epitome of a dive bar to me, and I will be back next time I need to scratch that itch. read more

"Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name..." Unfortunately, no one at Cheers Bar & Grill knew my name, but that was because it was my first time there yesterday. My Groupon for $20 worth of food and drink was expiring at that point, and as I was off for the day, I figured I'd go to Cheers for my lunch (plus, I'd never had lunch in a bar before). It was still pretty early in the day when I got there (around 11:30 or so), but there were a few regulars nursing drinks, along with the owner and bartender. Cheers stands out among dive bars because you grill your own meal - and much as I wanted to make the most of my Groupon by ordering a steak, I was afraid that I'd screw it up on the grill under the patron's gaze. So, I settled for their 1/2 lb. Cheersburger (normally $6.75, with pickles, lettuce, tomato, and red onion on the side, and a choice of American, Swiss, or Pepper Jack cheeses - I chose Pepper Jack), along with a side of tater tots topped with cheddar and bacon (normally a total of $5.50). Cooking my own burger was great - after I seasoned the patty the way I liked it, the results were impressive (no blaming the chef here!), and I was even able to grill the onions that came with my burger. The tater tots took a while to come out, though - at least the bacon and cheddar made it worth the wait. The staff were friendly enough - the owner/manager had this barbecue salt that he was working on, and he let me take a whiff of it. Woof, was that stuff good (and STRONG); hopefully he'll have it available on the condiment/seasoning station near the grill. While the bartender was nice, she had forgotten to give me a spatula for me to turn my burger. At least she was able to refill my water glass once I'd drained my beer and wanted a chaser. I should also add that the beer selection on tap is very limited; I had asked for a pint of Shock Top, and was told they didn't carry it. What they did have was Hangar 24 (a wheat beer brewed out of Redlands), and it was a pretty good substitute. I did like grilling my own meal, so if another Groupon for Cheers Bar & Grill becomes available, I'll snap it up! read more

Went here because I had a Groupon and live in the area. The place is an old school low lit dive bar. I personally enjoy this type of establishment for exactly what it is. A lot of reviews are people disappointed with not being served - you order at the bar here and they will bring your food out to you. After a few minutes of being seated, I went up to the bar to ask/order and things were just fine. The grill your own burger concept was a lot of fun to do with my daughter. Cheers has redeemed themselves. Last year I had an undesirable experience. My husband and I have returned to watch a friend and his band's show. We were so welcomed and served without a wait and the servers are nice and friendly. It appears the staff had a makeover, which is great because the owners are really nice people. Have been to this bar numerous times in the past and have enjoyed the my experience but I haven't been there in a few months. I showed up today and there is a whole new crowd which is fine but the bartender was not very attentive and actually unfriendly, which seems inappropriate for a customer service position. I also had to use the restroom and was waiting patiently for my turn and the person in there was taking quite a long time and lo and behold to see the unfriendly bartender walk out with another girl and didn't even bother wiping off the white residue left behind on the shelf I assumed was for purses. That was really bad and the owner should be aware of what is happening because that could end up very badly for them. Also there was no toilet paper in either restroom, my boyfriend commented on the mens room, which he said was so dirty he was glad he didn't have sit down to do his business. I'm very sad to write this review because this use to be one of my favorite places to visit but I don't know if it has changed ownership because it does not even feel welcoming and have a fun group of people. Also the bar was not always the cleanest but it doesn't seem like anyone has actually cleaned it in a very long time. There use to be a really great personable and attentive guy that I would see there cleaning the place and I guess the new owner didn't feel he needed, get him back because he is priceless. There is only ONE STALL, and by the looks of the groups coming in and out of the one bathroom, and the little baggies in the trash, there's a lot more than just alcohol going around this establishment. Shady individuals in the front and back parking lot. Didn't stay long enough to ask for food, I wouldn't risk the food poisoning. We had a couple of bad experiences here. We went in first on a Saturday for lunch. Place was dark inside and very quiet except for a few people at the bar. Many of the tables were dirty. We ordered a Turkey burger and a garden burger. After 5+ minutes the bartender/cook said they were out of garden burgers. Since our Groupon expired in 2 weeks, we asked if we could get an extension as we didn't know when we could come back. She said yes and signed her name to the Groupon. Well, we went back a second time on a Saturday just around noon. Place was still very quiet only a few people at the bar. Almost all of the tables were still filthy from the night before. They had very obvious water puddles and food remnants on most of the tables. It was pretty gross. They must have been leftover from the night before. Who doesn't wipe down tables at the end of the night? After bartender/cook yelled from the kitchen area asking if we needed a menu and said since she was only 1, we needed to come to bar to order. We ordered a Turkey burger and a veggie burger again and hoped that we could at least get one of them. After a few minutes of digging around in the freezer (hmm fresh) they didn't have either one of them! The bartender/cook said owner doesn't come in that much and doesn't oversee ordering that well. Also, said even though we had note signed from previous bartender/cook they couldn't honor the Groupon as that was Groupon's rules. Luckily we were able to get all of our money back from Groupon, but I don't think we will be giving them a third try. read more

Unfortunately this place wasn't to our liking. We tried a Living Social deal here but it wasn't what we thought. It's essentially a somewhat out-of-place hole-in-the-wall dive bar that appears to attract the local regulars, for the most part. The locals were huddled around the bar and the restaurant tables were all empty. The empty tables themselves didn't even have basic condiments or menus, so we couldn't be certain that lunch/dinner would even be an option. The condiments were located by the main grill because it seems that the main theme is to grill your own burger. Despite the owner's numerous claims that the Groupon deal mentioned cooking your own burgers, our Living Social deal did not and merely stated "2 burgers or chicken sandwiches and 2 domestic draft beers". I would not have bought this deal had I been given the slightest clue that we'd have to cook our own burgers. Beyond this, service was extremely bad; we weren't even greeted or acknowledged when we entered. This was disappointing because we clearly weren't heading for the bar and couldn't help but appear as though we didn't know our place as eating guests - again, the restaurant tables were empty/bare. I headed to the bar to specifically ask to use our food Living Social deal. The bartender advised that we could sit anywhere and that customers cook their own burgers. This idea didn't appeal to us at all and I had to ask her if there was a cooked food option, since the Living Social deal suggested chicken burgers also. The bartender advised that she could cook chicken burgers for us but also let us know that there would be a wait. It appears as though she is the cook as well as the bartender and this must make her job very difficult at times. There was a wait, but when the chicken burgers arrived, they were clearly microwaved and not even warm in the center. We had to worry about whether or not we might get sick and it must be said that the notion of cooking your own burgers on an open grill doesn't inspire any base-line confidence in this regard. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews but I have to be honest about the way an experience comes across to me. Eating here would certainly not be something I would want to do again. The bartender was approachable and friendly, and certainly appears to do the best she can under the circumstances, but there is little else that can be said about eating lunch on a Saturday afternoon at Cheers Bar and Grill. If you advertise/promote food as your business, customers shouldn't have to ask to see a food menu or ask to be seated. As a restaurant customer, I expect to be greeted as a restaurant customer. Furthermore, eateries need full-time cooks. It's fine to offer some customers the option to cook their own burgers, but customers should immediately know what their alternative food options are, and there should indeed be plenty of alternative food options at any kind of eatery. In essence, Cheers Bar and Grill is a local dive bar which allows you to grill your own burger or order some snacks in addition to the drinks you order at the bar. It is the most disappointing food experience we've had in San Diego county in years, and that's my honest opinion. read more

Been coming here for a couple of years with the parents, business colleagues, and friends. They have a BBQ Grill in the center of the room for you to grill burgers, steaks, chicken, & fish anyway you like it. There is a full bar and Guinness on Tap. There appears to be a never ending revolving door of staff... but the Ladies working the bar were both really friendly and kept the drinks flowing! There are also darts, 2 pool tables, a shuffle board, multiple big screens, and a small patio in front if you want to drink and smoke. Great work. I can't comment on their food but I can tell you this place is a blast on a Saturday evening when they have a good live band performing. My sweetie and I ventured in this place to watch Bottomline. We arrived at 8:30 PM and the place was packed already. Live music begins at 9 pm. We walked up to the bar to grab a couple cocktails and then got our groove on on their small dance floor. They have pool tables, a tabletop shuffle board and a grill in the middle of their restaurant.....a typical sports bar. Nothing fancy here but it's a great place if you just want to chill, kick back and dress down for the evening. The one negative is they only have ONE stall for the ladies restroom and there is always a wait so ladies....PLAN AHEAD! I saw a couple ladies venture into the men's restroom but I personally will not go that route....plan ahead ladies and you will be fine!
