Cheers was a place I kept seeing in the strip plaza where the Publix I use while vacationing nearby was located. I stopped in on an early evening and was immediately welcomed by the convivial owner Jojo. They had a trivia contest going on emcee'd by Casper ( who was the proprietor of the bait store I'd been using). After my third or fourth visit, I decided to post a review on Cheers. Their hamburgers are phenomenal. They're good inch and a half to 2 inches thick. I get the blue and black burger. It is very very good. What a great place. Staff is so friendly and the people are just great. The victuals at Cheers Pub & Grill in Melbourne Beach are delightful, inviting, and prepared with utmost care by a skilled chef. The key to these great flavors is the seasoning. Unlike at most restaurants, the chef at Cheers apparently truly cares about what comes out of the kitchen. This lovely restaurant is in South Melbourne Beach in the Publix Plaza. The owner, Joanne Lee, is a delightful lady truly dedicated to making Cheers a success. Sandi, the bartender/wait staff, is very charming and competent, which is refreshing to see today. Let's talk about the awe-inspiring food. First up was the blackened mahi-mahi special. The fish--flaky, gorgeous, and melt-in-your-mouth--was drizzled with a savory (yes you heard me correctly) raspberry glaze. I also had the patty melt. Although I typically despise caramelized onions and usually ask to leave them off, I forgot. To my surprise, the onions were cooked fresh and then caramelized making them a welcome addition. The patty melt at Cheers is an actual burger that can be cooked to temp. I chose medium rare. Nice. As for the final protein, I cannot speak highly enough about it. The blackened shrimp taco had jumbo fresh high-grade shrimp, fresh tomatoes, and a grilled tortilla. Not sure how they can serve such expensive shrimp at this price point, but I suggest getting them while you can. As an aside, I recommend you try the sweet potato fries dusted with sea salt. Last night, my husband and I took our son, his wife and 2 daughters to Cheers on the Beach for the first time. We started with excellent hot chicken wings. I got the Honey Bourbon Wrapped Scallops which were absolutely fabulous! The salad that came with it was fresh and crisp. My husband got the seafood soup and seafood salad, my son got a Grilled Mahi sandwich with fries, his wife got the Seafood Salad. The girls got a Mac n cheese and an order of fries. Everything was delicious. The fries are spectacular. The service was excellent. We live close by so will be enjoying this place quite often! I have lived in Melbourne Beach forever. Whenever I go to Publix I'm always curious who's having SUCH a good time in the plaza... well I found out finally. The atmosphere, the food, the service, the entertainment AMAZING. It's hard to find good service nowadays and when you're personally greeted by the owner, that's what these small towns are all about. We have gone three times in the last week and the fish and chips is my absolute favorite. Our first night we sat at the bar and ordered the cheese sticks, fish and chips, mahi tacos and ended with the crème brûlée. Absolute 10! The next night we came for trivia night which was SO much fun. Again, fish and chips and mahi tacos but this time we opted for the pretzel appetizer, which was huge and dessert was the bread pudding. This brings us to tonight, brought my parents in and we all ordered different things, this time I got the pot roast and wow. Another excellent dining experience where you don't feel you wasted money on a low quality experience. Overall, this is a must all across the board. Came in tonight just to grab a beer or 2 and ended up staying for dinner. Live music, good drinks and the service was top notch. Had the pork dinner special which was wonderful. Even had the chef come out and talk to me to see how I liked everything, which to me shows dedication to the business and to the guests. Finally made it to this local spot for an early dinner Saturday at 4 pm. We had heard good things about the food despite the bar type atmosphere. We ordered an appetizer while deciding on drinks and dinner. The service was on point! However, we decided to leave and go somewhere else to dine. Our appetizer was wonderful, but the blaring loud country rock music was just too much to justify a pricey dinner where we could hardly hear each other speak in a mostly empty place. The music and volume was better suited to a 10 pm rowdy bar atmosphere, not an early dinner vibe. We took a chance, knowing it was a bar and realized we would rather dine where our nervous system could feel calm and we could enjoy our conversation. We drove five minutes down the road to Coconut Cove Cafe and found the relaxing vibe we wanted along with an incredible meal and view.
