why do i come here? it must be the lure of the cheap shots, made with the worst possible brands of liquor. the juarez and castillos and cuervos. how i hate you all in the morning. it's fun when you're drunk, i'll give cheers that! and this place is very popular with the underage crowd. my goodness, i couldn't believe all the little youngins swarmed in this place. none of the girls looked a day over 17. it was quite depressing. good thing the flaming dr. peppers kept my mind off the young bucks and fawns. read more

We ended up arriving to 6th street exxxtremeeely late so we had to really knuckle down for POWER HOUR so us girls decided to come here since they're known for their ridiculously cheap and interesting named shots. We got a spot at the bar and I made a friend with the guy next to us who apparently knew the bartender so we were getting dibs on all the shots without wait :) Our bartender was really friendly and hospitable too, which is rare to find at bars. I can't quite remember what we ordered but to name a few: flaming dr. pepper, blow job, buttery nipple, panty dropper, and sex on the beach. All of them were kind of sweet tasting, but whatevs, it got the job done haha. Other than the bar is dirty and super sticky.. i can live with it. I'll def visit again when I'm in town. read more

Staff here were very helpful and it was easy to get a drink however the door staff here take their jobs too seriously. They are very disrespectful and degrading to women. This was the first bar I went to when I first visted Austin right after turning 21. We went for one reason, Flaming Dr. Pepper shots. We came, we had, we went ahead and had one more, than left. Every time I have friends visit me now that I live in Austin, if they want to go to central area 6th street I go here just for Flaming Dr. Pepper shots. I don't get to visit alot, but it is a great treat about 6 times a year. First, it is basically a car bomb, and who doesn't love liquer with beer, it is two drinks in one. Second it is strong, the amaretto and 151 make sure of that. Third and most importantly, it is briefly on fire, by fireball. Fire, beer, liquor, drunk....normally a horrible combination. in this situation, great. I cannot suggest this place under any other circumstances for any other reason. Not sure if it truly sucks or is an amazing place. Still, stop by and try a flaming Dr. Pepper, at least once. read more

understanding cheers. it is not intended to be a copy of the Boston bar. they have $1 well drinks every night till 11pm. that is what this bar is. at age 30, i still find myself going in and out of cheers between sets at emos, the parish, or just a great place to start off the night because of its central location the inside is small and un-leveled, but go past the restrooms to the outside patio which has an upstairs and downstairs bar and is an older crowd. great place for big crowds if you want to buy everyone a round, like the whole bar. it is about as clean as any other bar on 6th. i have never noticed an under 21 crowd. this is a laid back crowd. i have seen the singer from spoon and the keyboard/drummer from ghostland at cheers on separate occasions. i think the bar doesn't open till 9pm, and yes there is a 10 min on credit cards like most bars downtown. read more

A shot is a mixed drink distilled down to its essence. Something tasty that hurts a little going down and gets you jacked up. Cheers is everything that's wrong with this section of 6th Street, distilled down it its essence. The last shot I tasted there was so sickeningly sweet that I passed it off to someone else, who threw up a few minutes later. If that's the kind of night you want, this is your place. read more

I use to love cheers, they have $1 wells from $2 tequila shots until 11pm so it was a great place to pre-drink for the night. Every night was a goodnight to go. Unfortunately the last two times we have gone were horrible experiences. The new bartenders are so rude and they all hang out on one side of the bar when it isn't even busy. They just look like they don't want to be there. It's really bad. I hope they change bartenders soon. This was my favorite place ever!!!! read more

With all the great looking shots on the overhead menu.. Service was beyond the worst I have ever encountered. The empty bar (1 guy maybe at the bar) and 2 bar tenders and a door man checking ID and shouting out shot specials to the many potential customers. We came in because the door man said 2.00 shots. So we entered the empty place and ordered 4 shots which equaled to 28.00... I wouldn't have mind paying but after we said the door man said they were 2.00.. The bar tendered just said, 'just get the F*** out of this bar'. Whoa! Seriously? No wonder the bar had no business. I recommend passing this bar and just hitting the next one! All the shots you could possibly want...mostly for $5 or less. They have specials for $2 and then $3, $5 and I think $7 shots. I am still shocked by Texas prices for drinks.The menu is very clear and organized. They also have a cool deck. Tasty shots, cheap beer, and a friendly atmosphere make you want to Cheers with everybody in the whole place! The Kamikaze shot was only $1.75 when I was there, and I thought it tasted exactly like lemonade. Mmmmmm. The tequila shot was equally cheap, but relatively disgusting. But I didn't let that get me down at Cheers! The beers are $1.50 a pint Sunday-Thursday, so that makes it a must-go-to with the crowd I keep. Pretty cool patio bar with lots of outdoor space. There are a lot of levels to this bar which makes it feel a bit cramped but the drinks were good. Not a bad option if you're looking for a bar that allows you to enjoy a nightly breeze. read more

This bar has found it niche in the Austin nite life scene. Not fancy, yet knows how to attract a crowd. The doorman and the bartenders are always helpful with the local and the tourists. The drink prices are good, especially on week nights. The set up to the bar is too small and really uncomfortable on busy nights. About one third of the staff is cool, the rest of the staff is pretty conceited, including one male bartender who I have seen throw ice at ladies in the bar two different times, and the ladies did not like it when he did. I recommend checking it out on week nights when there are fewer people and more comfort. read more

If going to this part of 6th Street in Austin, Cheers Shot Bar is a must. I love their fun selection of shots and usually go here first to get the party started! It is a little odd of a setup (be careful not to fall over the level drop) but for a quick stop, it's not a big deal. read more

RACIST STAFF!!! This is the worst place that I've came to on 6th Street.The bartender denied services to me and my friend, for NO REASON!! We are two educated, well groomed Latinos, We ask if there was a bar at their roof top and the bartender said "NO, the roof top is close and will be open at 8:30PM" mean while, there were a lot of customer upstairs having drinks. When I went inside and asked him why he lied to us, he didn't have a word to say and his face looked really dumb and stupid. So we left and I will be sending an email to the owner about this behavior towards brown people. read more

I had an incredibly fun time here, but I realize that $1 drinks aren't actually that uncommon on 6th (which I still can't get over). So why only 3 stars, you might ask? Well, like a lot of the bars on 6th, it's basically a dive that draws people in with these insane drink offers. So, since it's pretty much the norm on this street, I'm giving it a completely average review. Nothing here really set it apart from the other bars we went to along the street, except maybe for the rooftop bar (which I mean, is a second-story deck, so it's not so much a rooftop view as a view of the bar across the way). But hey, I like drinking outdoors. The cheap well drinks are pretty watered down...had about six and was barely buzzed. So keep that in mind. But it's a great way to chill with people on the cheap. read more

Visiting Austin for the first time to consider moving. As most tourists on 6th street we stumbled into a bar with a crowd and music we liked. Nick (our bar tender) was exactly what Austin is known for. He welcomed us with a smile and started a conversation not once pushing us for drinks (obviously it didn't take long for us to order) but he was friendly and got to know us. We are from California where no one will give you the time of day. It was a great taste and perfect representation of everything good in Austin. I hope for anyone looking for a bar to stop in on 6th street stops here and asks for Nick he won't disappoint and Nick if you read this we hope to see you again the next time we are down there!
