Every time I go to Bethesda, Chef Tony's is a must. My favorite is his crab cakes (no filler) and especially the vegetables that come with them -- so tasty! We were excited to see that Chef Tony had a Thanksgiving Day meal offer. We had used them for our Thanksgiving in 2020 and it was fantastic. In all regards. This year, not so much. First the location was difficult to find (recommend you list the name of the condo building in which the restaurant is housed. Would be much easier to locate. Finally finding the place and collecting our dinner (a surprisingly small amount it seemed). Bottom line: the food was scant and the taste - well, we were sadly disappointed. Perhaps we would have reacted differently had our first Chef Tony's experience had not been so great. We cannot recommend them for future Thanksgiving meals. We wish we could. read more

We asked for a children's menu and the young woman wearing a mask looked at us as though we had three heads. Very unpleasant. We ordered cod with mashed potatoes and vegetables of the day. The mashed potatoes were good, but the fish had a funky smell, as though it was off. Tasted worse, so I ended up trashing it. It was takeout so no way to send back. We visited this spot last Friday and we were greeted by a kind older gentleman. We asked to sit outside. I'd recommend that they have heaters for the patio. The patio is large and they social distance the tables, which I greatly appreciated. Overall, I went on a super busy evening with a large party celebrating a birthday. So service was sub-par. We had to ask several wait staff the same thing like -can I get a plate or a spoon for my pasta. Even the salads where 10-15 minutes apart leaving my guest with nothing. The food was ok... goat cheese salad and Caesar as well as calamari had nice portions are good. The Crab Dad pasta lacked and the spicy shrimp was just ok. My goodness! This place is a hidden gem indeed! This was not even on my radar but saw good reviews on Yelp. I look for yelpers most reviewed and not just those with the most star rating. This place is inside the Promenade condos in Bethesda on their lower level called Arcade. Simple but elegant decor. Went for our Valentines' dinner. The calamari was perfectly cooked, not gummy but not raw, the flavor was on spot. Crispy on the outside but not too much breading. Crab soup was delicious, has a hint of old bay which I adore! But the filet mignon... oh my lord! It melts in your mouth and the sauce is delish! I ate every bite and scraped my plate clean lol! The mashed potato and veg were perfectly cooked as well. The dessert was good but my hubby was not overly impressed with his cheesecake -but it did look cute heart-shape and pink. I had the chocolate sin and I enjoyed it. Very rich chocolate flavor- more like mouse/truffle. It was a small piece but I couldn't finish it all. I recommend you try this place. Disappointing Mother's Day brunch This was there jumbo lump cake and artichoke heart omelette which was dried/overcooked. We had a party of 7 and 4 of us ordered that brunch special. We noticed when the server dropped the dishes that the food displayed omelette was dried & overcooked ^^ w/out eating it. I complaint to one of the server the older waiter with glasses. He apologized. Unfortunately, I'm very terribly upset & disappointed that the chef screwed up our omelette dishes. That's a slap in the face with the chef as well as the manager on duty not offering my party any compensation besides "I'm sorry"! I hope this review serves other foodie readers my experience today. I tried this restaurant based on the Yelp reviews and photos that were posted. Please note-- this is no longer a tapas/seafood restaurant. Same owner (Chef Tony), but the waiter told us that the restaurant menu changed a week ago. It's now Italian "comfort food." The prior seafood restaurant has moved to Rockville and is called Chef Tony @ Amalfi. Aside from the initial disappointment, I ordered steamed mussels for an appetizer, and the clam and linguini for an entree. The mussels were the best I've had anywhere, cooked perfectly, in a flavorful broth. The pasta dish was also very tasty, but I wish it had more clams. The tiramisu I had for dessert was excellent. So, not what I was searching for, but still a very satisfying meal. read more

My partner & I absolutely love this place! I'm a pescatarian, and he's a vegetarian & it's the only seafood place we've ever been to where he has multiple entree options. We usually share the goat cheese salad because it's pretty big. I always order the branzino & it's even amazing ordering carry out or delivery. The cheesecake is great. And we've also enjoyed a couple of the seafood and vegetarian pastas. They also make really great drinks. Also as a bonus, parking is easy and free! I highly recommend this place! read more

This was my second time there and I have to say I don't think I will be back. Last time, the pizza we ordered was not cooked properly and they took it back to the oven to finish cooking. That took forever and they brought back the pizza when we were paying for our dinner. All they offered was $10 off for next time we order pizza. This time, we ordered 3 fried fish dishes. After we ordered the food, the waiter came back and said the fish they had were bigger than usual so the price had to increased from $33 to $44. . My sister decided to share her fish with her husband. My husband decided not to get the fish anymore and tried to order a pizza but we were then told that they were no longer making pizzas (even though we saw people leaving with some pizzas later that night). Then, my husband tried to order a cheeseburger. Later the waiter came back and said that there were no more cheeseburgers. At that time we were already tired of so many issues so we complained and asked them to honor the original price of the fried fish but they refused to do that and instead they said they were making the cheeseburger. I don't know about you, but I think this whole situation was a bit weird!! It's like they wanted to force us to pay for the expensive fish. After all of this the waiter apologized but the chef never came to say anything and the restaurant did not offer anything to us for the inconvenience. We will not be back due to the lack of communication between the staff members, the lack of food options, and the lack of attention to the customers. We still paid about $250 and I cannot believe the chef did not come out to speak with us this is not the best way to run a restaurant. read more

We had a late lunch here on a Sunday. They were still serving brunch but other choices on the menu was available. We were promptly seated and were immediately served with bread. We ordered drinks and appetizer to start and waited to order the entrees. Food came in with out a long wait and they were delicious. Some in my group said theirs were a bit salty but mine was perfect. Overall service was good, friendly staff and good food. Location was a bit hidden. It was in the ground floor of a gated/guarded condominium. Guard will direct you to commercial customer parking and issue a parking permit. The server took our drinks and app order but 30 mins later he had still not brought anything. We tried to ask another server to fetch him but that server shook his head and scuttered off. When the food finally came the four of us were all disappointed and found it all quite awful! My so called Italian paella was supposed to have jumbo shrimp, lobster, mussells and scallop but it did not. It just had unopened mussels, two shrimp and one scallop, and it was in a watery gravy not tomato sauce. My friend had the surf and turf which was smothered in mayonnaise! Chef Tony's is an unassuming seafood/Italian restaurant that really does stand out in terms of taste and affability of its waiters. This restaurant is nestled in a residential complex, so a good amount of its patrons are community members. Conversations can be overheard of personal updates and general good nature conversation between the patrons and the servers, which adds to its charm. The food itself is of great taste and texture! The only thing I would've wished for is a sauce for the rockfish to add a bit of zest and flare to the dish, but all of the base tastes were enjoyable. I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 because of the seemingly uncoordinated communication between my server and the kitchen. It took quite a wait for items to come out, whether it be my drink, extra bread, an ice bucket for the wine, or a bottle of sparkling water (which never came). Solid, versatile menu and fresh seafood remains from the uber-convenient downtown Bethesda location, but pretty much everything else about the new location is a major turn-off. Located in a distant residential high-rise with no outdoor seating, and need to drive past a security gate and get a parking pass. I went to get takeout for my family on Christmas Eve and ended up waiting an hour past the ETA for takeout. Even more bothersome was the fact that no staff members expressed concern or urgency for this delay; acted as if I didn't even exist and couldn't even answer my question as to whether the food was started, in process, etc. Watched several other customers complain about botched holiday pre-orders during this time as well. Will be hard pressed to ever give them business again after this sour service experience. read more

This place is one of the best restaurants I have been to in the area since moving here in June, super high quality food with incredible taste. The price is super affordable. I got the stuffed salmon and my dad got the surf and turf and we would have paid at least $15 more for these dishes if we went to another restaurant, and that is an understatement.
