We enjoyed our breakfast here. He got the touchdown omelet and I got the old fashion french toast. He got a side of chili with the omelet and it came with home fries. The chili was too spicy for him but still good! Neither of us were impressed by the home fries. They just seemed a bit under cooked so they were very "potatoey" and blandly spiced. The other day, I went in for breakfast (as I have many times in the past). First thing I noticed, in addition to the price of the Early Bird Special being increased is that the OJ and coffee was no longer included in the menu price (along with 2 eggs, home fries, toast). Found on yelp had good reviews and priced looked reasonable. Got to the diner and it looks very run down and parking is a slim one way small alley that opens to the road. Have to carefully back out because you can't the road due to neighboring fence. Place looks so rundown. So much so that i was about to leave but felt bad because I made a large order. Glad I didn't leave. Got inside and it's clean, staff friendly and food was delicious! Picky eaters ate all their food and super affordable. We had a large party and their food comes with extras. Sometimes simple is better! The Chef's Diner is a sweet little joint that makes a mean breakfast. All cooked to order and fresh. It's not fancy but the prices are right and the food is GOOD. If you're looking for an old school diner, this is the place. The staff members are all super nice and helpful. The chef checked on us multiple times to make sure everything tasted perfect. For meat eaters, I'd recommend the he-mans breakfast which comes with 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 pieces of sausage, potatoes, toast, and a fluffy pancake as well. All for around $8 or so. The chef looked up from what he was doing immediately as I walked in. He greeted me and invited me to sit wherever I wanted. I really appreciated it. Little things like that go along way. First this diner is a real hole in the wall which I thought would mean a homie feel with great service. Wrong. First the coffee is terrible, just absolutely terrible they put too much water in it and not enough coffee to make a bigger quantity of terrible coffee. I was asked if I wanted wheat or white toast I said wheat, then received white, no biggie. Then I asked for the spinach omelette and even pointed to it on the menu and some how got the Spanish omelette. Returned it and got an under cooked spinach omelette with not even melted cheddar cheese. Top it off with the small hair in it I was done. Never going back again. Since recently moving to Stamford, I've been on the lookout for a good diner. I'm so glad I checked out Yelp. this place is as authentic as it gets for traditional american diners. Don't judge a book by its cover- this place looks abandoned from the outside but once you go in, it's nothing but great food and friendly staff. I had the french toast and my friend had the western omelette. Both were so delicious, we went back again. We were there on a late friday morning so it was mostly empty but Chef was there and ready to take our orders. Parking lot is extremely limited and hard to get in/out. I recommend taking a cab if you're in the downtown area. read more
