Overrated!! I would say Chef's is complacent. The food is okay at best. Not sure what all these people who say it's great are comparing it to. I get the feeling Chef's is too big for it's britches and they don't really try anymore. We received no greeting upon arrival or departure. No employee in that place smiles. Dining out should be an event. A fun, pleasurable event. The customer should not feel like an imposition, afraid to ask for something or even complain. I want to spend my money where they are happy to see me and glad I am there! I haven't been to Chefs in a couple of years, but I've been there tons of times in the past 10 years+. It's...meh....More hype than anything. I'm Italian and so I have high expectation for past a dishes....the foods just ok...I think that people who love it like the enormous amount of pasta and entire pound of cheese (not sure on total amount) that is baked onto the parm.... PARMAGEDDON! The parm is ridiculously fun. They melt slices of mozzarella cheese on spaghetti that's been tossed in the house-specialty sauce. We LOVE it here. However, the past two times we've gone recently some employees have been extremely rude. The hostess tonight was absolutely miserable and so short and made us feel so unwelcome. When we got to the stand she didn't even welcome us she just looked at us as if she was bothered by our presence. As the first face customers see, hostesses are supposed to act with great customer service. Furthermore, she informed us that the dining room was booked but we could sit and eat at the bar. She never went and informed the bartender we were eating like she was supposed to and after talking to 3 different employees, my boyfriend finally approached the bartender himself who apologized and revealed that the hostess never informed him we were trying to eat. We had our annual Holiday party there for the second year in a row. The service was fantastic, the food was delicious, brought to us hot and in a timely manner, considering there were 22 of us in a private room. They had a table set up for the presents. Finally made it to Buffalos famous chefs restaurant! My actual rating is a 3.5. I would say that overall the restaurant is somewhat overrated. A friend and I ordered a chicken parm, a chicken broccoli and fettuccine Alfredo dinner, and their famous spaghetti parmesean . The chicken parm was great! Absolutely delicious and we loved it. The chicken broccoli fettuccine Alfredo was okay at best and disappointing at worst. Honestly it just lacked flavor and I've had better white sauce nearly anywhere I've ever been. Spaghetti parm was a plate of spaghetti with a layer of cheese over top of it and was nearly bone dry and flavorless. Thankfully they serve it with a cup of their house red sauce which I really liked! Homemade bread was very fresh and good and service and price was good. The coolest thing about this place is their history. They've got a wall of sauce which is famous people holding jars of their sauce. So again the experience was very pleasant I just wasn't blown away by the food. But it's worth a try to enjoy the piece of buffalo culinary history! read more

We had a great time at Chef's. Come for the food, stay for the bibs. As Canadians we felt like we got a glimpse of authentic American culture and their love of all things sports and cheese. I had been here awhile ago and the food was good, so 2 weeks ago my wife & I showed up with no reservation & was told there was a 2 hour wait, so we left. I still had a hankering for pasta so we made reservations for a Saturday night at 6:30. We arrived & "checked in" at 6:15. There was a huge crowd of people crammed into the bar area waiting for a table. After 50 minutes we were still not seated & had a couple of tables to be seated before us. If anyone asked how long it would be before they were seated, the hostess ( who answered any questions in her snottiest voice) replied with a number. Like; you are number 16, we are on number 4. Apparently, you need to arrive an hour early to even get close to being seated at your reservation time. This is ridiculous & we will never go there again. read more

I came here for Local Restaurant Week with my friend and it was an awesome experience. I heard wonderful things about this place and could not wait to try it. I got the Boneless Chicken Cacciatora with Spaghetti and my friend got the Chicken Parmesan. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and tasty. The Chicken Parmesan was breaded beautiful with the cheese melting on the sides topped with a lot of sauce. The Boneless Chicken Cacciatora was really rich and flavorful. This place is generally very busy and packed with people. However, we did get seated right away, despite the fact, that it was Restaurant Week. The service was wonderful and is a great place to have dinner with friends. We were in the city for the night with kids, lots of kids and my husband insisted that we go get parmed. *insert eye roll , sure babe whatever you say. I didn't quite know what we were in for. I called ahead because of our numbers and easily got reservations. A short walk from our hotel and we were there. The outside was nothing special but when you enter it screams amazing Italian food shall grace your table soon. We were quickly seated and served water. Ordered the stuff shells with a meatball and side salad. The salad was huge and I was afraid to eat it all. Shells were good but my husband chicken parm was amazing and his spaghetti Parmed was where it is at. The cover you for in cheese! Wow totally cool. Well that's the last time our office orders from Chef's. They missed an order in our takeout so I called to let them know. She said they were sorry, and see that the missing salad WAS ON the original order and got lost in the process of making food, they could make it fast and asked if I could I come back and get it. I said I would have to leave my hot food to get it, maybe I'll just not get it since they didn't charge me for it when I picked up. Then they said they would give me the salad at no charge for the inconvenience, so I said alright I appreciate that effort, I would be there shortly. When I got there they tried to charge me for the salad, and I explained how I just spoke on the phone with someone and they said that they would give it to me for my trouble. The woman at the window called someone to verify, and she said no that was not what was said. I said seriously I JUST got off the phone with her, I wouldn't have driven here to buy a salad. Then I was treated like a bad child and told by someone who wasn't involved in the conversation, how the conversation went. I asked for a manager - never got to speak to one - the same woman returned and said and I quote "we're going to give you the salad this time, but if we forget an order next time you will have to pay for it." I said " thank you, but I won't be back and my 130 person office won't be placing any orders with you in the future." Unreal!!! read more

I dig the ambiance - the entranceway is pretty modern w/ an open window into the kitchen. Photos of celebrities that have dined at Chef's adorn the walls. Then the restaurant shifts into a traditional Italian restaurant with the checkered red/white tablecloths. Service was excellent, however the food was a slight disappointment. Famous for their spaghetti parmesan, I had to get it w/o really knowing what I was getting myself into. When it came, the cheese to noodle ratio was about 1:1 which is way too much cheese that I almost choked on it several times. Sadly as I was eating this, I imagined myself as a 300lb Buffalo-sized replica heartily enjoying this a lot more than the current me would. Chefs restaurant is a very cool place to go. They have a lot of neat things to look at inside the restaurant. Their food is to die for! The spaghetti sauce is truly delicious. I ordered a large and my friend ordered a small of the same dish. There really was no difference size wise for the price difference. I also tried to heat up the leftovers and it was so oily that I could not even eat it. So I definitely recommend eating it fresh, otherwise it is no where comparable! So stop by Chef's and see what the buzz is all about. Embrace the comfort of a homemade spaghetti dinner and leave feeling like all is right with the world. A couple of tidbits about dining at Chef's. First, embrace the white napkin bibs. It's part of the charm, and I have no idea how they keep those things so white. Two, the prices here are a bit steep for what you get but it's not over the top expensive - you can also upgrade your dinner - extra parmesan adds a couple of bucks here, and then a meatball will add a couple bucks as well. In any case, watch what you add on, because you can end up with a $30 bill from what is essentially a pasta meal with a few meatballs. Lastly, the sauces here are all "in-house" meaning that they have their own recipe, but it's not like they are getting fresh piles of tomatoes in the back there... they are all recipes true to the 50s, and prepared from cans of tomatoes, a mix of spices, etc, but it is consistent every time!
