My favorite Chinese restaurant. They have live fresh sea food which I will get a picture of one day when I remember to feed my camera first!! I was able to get a picture of some of their sweet & sour pork OVER ICE! You heard me right , they serve it on top of ice. This technique somehow really does enhance it and takes it to another tier, try it for yourself. Service is just wonderful & quick. You must be the last egg tart in the house because everyone is trying to get a piece of you. I've been watching @DannyTheMedic and @SteveFineDining on YouTube for a while and those uncles LOVE this place. That said, while this place definitely had a couple of stand out dim sum dishes, my stubborn heart and taste buds are loyal to dim sum place in the plaza east of Ellie's. I really enjoyed the Squid Ink Chive Dumpling and Steam Pork Ribs with Pumpkin but the other dishes weren't anything to make your skirt flip. While I do like the fact that grabbing a table here in considerably easier to get than the place I enjoy, I think I would rather wait in line for a table at my regular Las Vegas dim sum spot. No hate to Ellie's though. The service is amazing, the food is fresh, and you will not have a bad time here. Plus they had the World Cup game on when we were dining. Ellie's Chinese Restaurant is located in Chinatown. Parking may be challenging because they are nestled with a few other businesses with only a few parking spaces. It was very busy when we arrived but we were able to get a table. Our table was very uncomfortable. Our table and chairs were squished against a wall and the outer chairs stuck out from our table and were into the aisle. Also it was hard to get t our table because the tables are arranged into three aisles that are arranged very tight together. Service was very minimal. They only had one server and others to run out all the food. We started with hot tea and it was served unfiltered with lots of tea leaves in it. Then we tried to order. My husband asked what was the difference between kung pao chicken and spicy chicken. The server just rolled her eyes and said, "get the kung pao because YOU won't like the spicy chicken." My husband was very offended and we wondered on what she really meant? Anyways we ordered two mains and an appetizer. The first plate that came out was the kung pao chicken. It was a large platter and was made with tender chicken. It was mildly spicy but good. My only COMPLAINT is that this dish was MISSING the PEANUTS. (we weren't asked how it was or I would have told someone) The next plate that got ran out to us was the Szechuan beef. This plate was also a generous portion and the meat was tender BUT THIS PLATE WASN'T SPICY AT ALL. It tastes like beef in gravy with a splash of soy. WOW was my husband upset. I do note on the Ellie's website they say that they serve authentic Chinese Foods but it seems that they don't serve authentic to everyone. ((Even as a side note authentic kung pao even should have Szechaun peppercorns in it and certainly should the Szechuan beef) The last plate to arrive was our appetizer of salt and pepper pumpkin. It also was a large generous plate. The pumpkin got battered and was fried with crispy shallots and some small pieces of hot peppers and it was delicious. That was our trip to Ellie's. read more

Ellie's Chinese Restaurant was one of those places I had to try after watching Danny the Medic and Steve Fine Dining absolutely rave about it. (Those two guys have influenced more of my Vegas food itinerary than they'd probably ever realize.) They weren't completely wrong. Ellie's has some genuinely excellent dim sum. A handful of dishes were standouts and I can absolutely see why it's become such a popular recommendation for locals and visitors alike. While I really enjoyed Ellie's, my loyalty still belongs to the dim sum restaurant in the plaza just east of it. The flavors feel more like what I grew up loving and when I'm craving dim sum in Las Vegas, that's still the place my taste buds vote for. I'd happily come back to Ellie's for several specific dishes (the Squid Ink Chive Dumpling and the Golden Crispy Bean Curd Roll) because they absolutely earned it. But if someone asked me where I'd spend my own money for a full dim sum brunch? My answer would still be the spot in the neighboring plaza. read more

We ordered and waited a long time for our food to arrive. Other tables that came after us, got seated. Served and left before we got our first dish. We had to ask for more water and tea, and even when we did they forgot about us, so we had to ask again and again, so I'm deducting one star Otherwise the restaurant is fairly no frills, not exactly a hole in the wall but also not upscale either Bonus points for lots of old Asian customers eat there. Heard that their dimsum for lunch is great. Still have to have it one day. Decided on eating dinner with friends. When arrived, there were two bus full of tourist came in. I just got back from Hong Kong and Guangzhou, so my dim sum bar was pretty high walking in here. Ellie's cleared it easily. The har gow and siu mai are better than most of what I had across multiple spots in HK and GZ. That's not something I say lightly. It beats out most of the SF Bay Area spots I've been to (and we have really good dim sum up there), and I'd put it on par with the best I've had in the 626. Having eaten dim sum in Chinatowns all over the country, this is one of my favorite in the states. The siu mai is one of my all time favorite anywhere. What makes it is the texture - they leave the shrimp and pork chunky enough that you get a real chew, and they don't hold back on the shrimp. Plump, mixed textures, and seasoned perfectly. That last part matters because a lot of spots need sauce to cover up under-seasoning. Not here. Consistency across the whole meal was impressive too. Everything tasted and felt high quality. Stopped by because we were craving dim sum and this was closest to us.... Pretty decent size establishment and service was good. I wish they had the carts to serve dim sum but you are given a paper to order dim sum along side a regular menu. The dim sum options were limited but what we ordered was good. We did enjoy their shu mai were very good and big. Husband said their tripe was one of the best he's had. Their sticky fried rice was good. And their flat noodles were good too. We ordered their pineapple buns to go which my kids liked. We also ordered food to take home which included their hong kong crispy pan fried noodles, pepper steak and braised tofu. It's hard to get seated. Many servers walk right by you while you're standing in the entrance and maybe 7-8 people later, no one has made eye contact, let alone greet you. You feel like you're a nothing. After the 8th person rushes past you like you don't exist, you start to get aggressive and call out to people and then finally, someone might acknowledge you before rushing away. We finally were seated. Ordered some dim sum dishes and one entree. The restaurant decor is drab. Very no frills Chinese. Popular with mainland Chinese clientele. Shrimp and chive cake, siu mai, and Chinese broccoli were our favorites. Generally better quality dim sum than HK Seafood or Orchid. I'd pass on the congee and the pork rib and pumpkin. Congee hardly had any preserved egg or pork. It was 99.9% ríe porridge. Pork ribs were hard to chew. All gristle. We got the Chinese style beef steak. It was tasty and good quality beef but the quality was so small and it was over $30. So with tax and tip you're paying $40 for a few bites of beef. Not worth it. Our bill came to almost $100 for two people. With these prices I'd go fine dining in a better atmosphere with much better service. They also charged a tea fee for my 4 year old. So happy to find Ellie's Chinese Restaurant again! They closed during the pandemic, and today I finally discovered that they're back. The location is a little further down from the main Las Vegas Chinatown area, but still very easy to find since it's right on Spring Mountain Road. The restaurant is small, but they have two private rooms and several large round tables, which are great for family-style dining. The dim sum quality remains just as good as before. The egg tarts are even a little bigger now and still come out warm -- I love them! The staff are senior but super friendly, which gives the place a very welcoming and nostalgic feeling. Really love and miss this dim sum house in Vegas. So glad they're back -- see you next time! read more

Try the lunch special for $49.99 (select 3 courses from provided list, until 4pm on weekdays). Very good deal since each dish runs around $20 individually ordered outside of special. Try the stir fry vegetables with garlic, orange peels chicken, and fish fillets with corn. Also added chicken fried rice noodles on side. Every dish comes out hot and delicious. Formerly located down Decatur, it has been closed down for a few years and I was really excited to try the re-opening! Unfortunately even with the re-opening, it somehow fell short even with an abundance of staff and most importantly, next to no service. Food did not taste like it was house made... Only pro I have at this place is that it's spacious and the prices are cheaper than other dim sum places. Ellie's Chinese Restaurant is a hit in my book. I loved the fish all crabmeat soup was my favorite part of our 6-course meal. The sweet and sour pork on ice was surprisingly delicious as well. I thoroughly enjoyed steamed flounder with soy sauce and ginger scallions. The bean curd lamb clay pot was a popular favorite also. The gylon was cooked to perfection and the pork patty with salty fish was okay but I'm used to having it a bit more cooked and with more salty fish. Very classy and cute restaurant. Let me start by saying I was looking forward to dining at Ellie's as many people have told me how great it is. Not that it matters but the people that told me that were of Asian descent. I think that is the key because my experience was different. We arrived around 11:30 AM Sunday and were seated promptly and efficiently. We were presented with a dim sum like menu along with a regular menu. The server seemed a little flustered when we wanted to order from the menu as most people were ordering dim sum breakfasts. I asked if she could tell me about the "spicy chicken" She immediately told me the chicken with Kung Pao sauce would be more to my taste. I asked why she said that and she didn't answer. She just assumed that since I am not Asian I can't appreciate good food the way it was meant to be eaten. I asked her twice more what she meant by my taste and how could she know my taste. I never got an answer to that or about the Spicy chicken dish. I truly do appreciate Szechuan style dishes that are made well as well as other regional Chinese and Asian regions. I do understand that the cuisine is generally more spicy than most non Asian Americans can tolerate. That said her assumptions are offensive. At that point I gave up and just ordered the kung bao and the Szechuan Beef figuring that should at least be somewhat palatable. The chick arrived first and was very mild with a hint of some spiciness but at least tasted ok. The beef wasn't even spicy enough to be called mild. It was like a brown gravy with very little flavor at all. I did bring the meat home so I could season it and improve it. I had to leave the plate of vegetables because they just weren't pleasant to eat which was a shame because they were expertly cooked. I believe that if I had a different appearance that our food would have been prepared much better and the way it should be served. The one thing that was good was the Salt & Pepper Pumpkin which was not what I expected but was cooked very nicely and tasted very good. That was the highlight. I guess if you are asian you can get good food that is prepared well but if you aren't you get the dumbed down for American palette food. In fairness I have noticed some other ethnic restaurants do the same thing sometimes. I just wish people wouldn't make assumptions about a persons ability to appreciate authentic food as its meant to be eaten. Maybe if she wasn't so busy the server may have taken the time to understand my preferences but I don't know. read more

We saw the video about its grand opening, read about how crowded it would be, etc. So we had to try it. Our timing must be good (Wednesday, 1:30 pm) because we were able to get in and be seated without waiting. There was a Latino guy (yes ---they were not all Asians in that restaurant) who was so nice and helpful, and seemed really delighted to work there. So he helped set the tone and we looked forward to a what we hoped would be a good lunch. They did have the carts going around. The first thing we chose was a shrimp with chives dumpling. We should have asked for it to be hot. What we got was cold dumpling that was so very greasy. That was followed by turnip cake, sticky rice wrapped in taro leaves, chicken feet, shrimp dumpling, salt and pepper squid, pork siumai and a special order of Singapore Noodles (which was probably my favorite of all the things we ate). For dessert, we had the sesame ball with red bean which was a surprise because it was nice and soft and not hard like others we've had before. Food quality and pricing wasn't bad at all. Not super busy like Asian BBQ our usual place. The biggest concern was some of the chairs were about to break. They're very wobbly. A lot of space inside for seating. I do wish they brought the food out faster, they were serving it to us like courses and we were starving. They would also make more money in each table that way. He was very nice and smiling helpful throughout our meal he answered our questions about what they had and didn't. So they had 1 cart going around with the steamed items and they had 1 waitress going around with the fried items. I thought it was going to be like old style where there is multiple carts and waiters carrying food. We kinda just grabbed your basic item like shu mai, steamed bbq buns, mountain bbq buns which is baked, pork ribs with pumpkin, pan fried chives dumplings. Such a hidden gem! We stop by , three of us and order the luncheon meal with 3 choices for 45.99$.We order beef chow fun, seafood clay pot,band mapo tofu. We also order fish maw crab soup. Get some Dim Sum here! They have traditional dim sum but a few new creations I've never had before. For example, the traditional sesame ball filled with meat this new (to me) sesame ball has a warm soft egg filled center. Another example is the cha su bao (pork buns). Instead of the traditional steamed bao, these buns are baked and the dough is a bit sweeter. Additionally the texture is less doughy than steamed. Our favorite is the sui mai. The chow mein noodles was the children's favorite. For a couple of items we wanted which are normally abundant on the steam carts, the server told us more was being made, twice! We never did get any. The atmosphere is definitely Chinese but the staff is bilingual. At this writing the "Ellie's" sign on the building is not posted. First let me just say, the food was AMAZING!!! Flavor for each dish was SUPER DELICIOUS!! Keeping in mind that this place just opened and is still going thru their grand opening...we have to show a little bit of grace. Upon entering, although there may be a lot of people, make sure to make your way to the front and add your name to the "List." AND make sure to listen for your name because they will not repeat or go through the crowd to announce your name. We waited for about 20 minutes and realized that they crossed my name off their list. I let the hostess know that they crossed my name off and I was standing right there to hear my name. Thankfully either the owner or manager overheard and told me that he would seat me right away. Once seated they asked what we would like to drink. We stated water and tea. They gave us tea but no water. It was pretty busy so we just let it go. There were servers pushing Dim Sum carts and walking around with items on the menu. The food was sparse, not enough to keep up with the amount of people. We were getting one plate at a time with 10 minute intervals. We were able to taste 6 items. We wanted to try more but we couldn't wait any longer. I really wanted to try the sesame ball but that didn't happen. We didn't even see half the items on the list, you gotta just take anything they bring out. Oh and we finally got our water towards the end. The ambiance was ok. Pretty crowded and plenty of Chinese people which is a good sign because that meant the food is good, which it was BUT I felt like an outsider because our table got passed up a few times when the food came around. Sometimes our table got skipped over. I really didn't want to feel that way but it happened more than twice. I don't want to leave a negative review because I understand that it just opened up. I know there will be hiccups and issues that need to be worked out. I think the place could be really successful because their food is so good but their customer service needs a little more work especially when serving each table. It would be nice to have the cart or server go to each table and not jump from this table and that table. One server even made eye contact with me and still passed over our table. I plan on coming back for an update on this review. I hope it will be a more positive experience. If you like delicious Chinese food, this is definitely the spot. If you have a lot of time to wait for food, this is the spot! If you want to try different entrees, this is definitely the spot. I wish this place the best. I will be back. I was skeptical because of the name but this place is really good! It's kind of like the old school style Chinese restaurants that my grandparents used to take me to when I was a kid, with huge round tables and huge lazy susans. We tried the Seafood Pan Fried Noodle and the Crispy Orange Beef, both of which were super flavorful. This place just recently opened, so definitely temper your expectations. It's located in interesting spot, sandwiched between the plaza that contains Dakao and the upcoming Sea Harbour restaurant. It's a very small parking lot, so once Sea Harbour opens up I don't know where everyone is going to park. The signage is in Chinese with a giant red grand opening banner. The inside is not very large. We showed up at 10am and they currently have a $5.99 dim sum deal until the end of August. If you want to order any of your main dishes off their menu, you have to wait until 11am -- which is odd. The $5.99 flyer has checkboxes, so everyone thought you could just mark what you want to hand it over to the waiter. But you have to wait until the carts swing by, which isn't that often. We were lucky to be sitting in the front so we could got first dibs on the food. But for the larger tables towards the back, they could be waiting for a while. We tried 6 dishes, and they were just okay for me. The siu mai, har gow, and pork spare ribs were standard. The fried turnip cake had good flavor but the texture was too mushy. The best items we had were the lava custard sesame balls and the golden shrimp bean curd rolls. $38 for 6 items, not including tip. By the time we left at 10:45am the place was full with a groups waiting at the front. I suspect it's mostly Chinese folks trying it out for the first time and lured in by the $5.99 special. The workers are nice, service was efficient, but they aren't really equipped to handle the larger volume at the moment. There are plenty of dim sum and Chinese restaurants that are popular and already well oiled machines, so I hope they ramp up quickly. Sea Harbour is opening right next door, as well. read more
