I've eaten here about half a dozen times now and my experiences have been pretty consistent. Food was well cooked, ample in portion, reasonably priced, varied in options, and quickly prepared. The restaurant itself is clean and lacking in a lot of the garish touches that one usually has to endure in the stereotypical Chinese Restaurant. The bathrooms are IMMACULATE in comparison to any other Chinese eatery I have ever visited which is SUCH a nice change. The staff has been very pleasant with one young gal in particular who never stops smiling and literally run-walks everywhere for the sake of expedient service. While this place isn't a show-stopper when compared to the whole of the Denver Market, I do have to say it is on the higher-end when compared to the usual dismal, dirty, generic, Chinese offerings one can find anywhere in the US. While I'm sure my Chinese Wife will get around to writing her own review I will add here that she gives Chen's her thumbs up as well. read more

Last night my group decided to order delivery from Chen's Garden and so we went on to making phone calls. We wanted two orders of the regular sesame chicken, but one with fried rice and the other with steamed white rice. As a side, we ordered grab cheese wontons. The grand total was $30 like any other Asian food establishment. The delivery was quick and easy because it was only three blocks away from where we were located in S Monaco. Yes our food came extra early, not even for thirty minutes which was a plus. The coolest thing about getting your food delivered from Chen's Garden was the fact that they put it in a box with a menu taped on top of the box to safely cover the food. Our food was delivered nicely packaged and with three fortune cookies. What are the odds? Our group was indeed three people. However the restaurant certainly had gotten our order wrong. We wanted two orders of Sesame Chicken and they mixed up our orders with Sesame and this other type of Chicken my friend originally wanted! (Can't truly remember the name of the chicken.) Well, they completely dumped fried rice all over the chicken and only gave us a box of white rice. This isn't at all what we wanted. The only close thing that was even correct about this all was the cheese wontons. That's it! The taste was painfully average. It tastes of plain, in fact, no flavor at all. Kudos to the seeds on the Sesame Chicken but it tasted bland and like nothing. The rice was a bit stale and hardly no vegetables at all. The wontons had these corners that were really hard to bite on. It was annoying taking it apart every time. The only thing was the delivery that impressed us all, but the food tasted similar to those dollar scoop Asian joints that have terror tasting quality food. I'm not a fan. read more

This wasn't my favorite Chinese place I've found nearby. Everything was an inconsistent temp when it arrived. And it took an hour to arrive. The chicken for the sweet n sour chicken was way over done. The food all tasted..meh. Bland? It didn't even come with extra sauces like soy sauce etc. and no fortune cookies or the extras you usually get at Chinese places for ordering over $30 worth of take out. Bummer. What a horrible experience and waste of $18. Tonight is the first snowy cruddy night in Denver for the season, so I just felt like ordering food in. I should have opted for the fantastic Chinese joint right across the street, but I felt guilty about ordering from 300 yards away and was up for something different. I ordered from Chen's not expecting it to be quick due to the weather, but it was a 50 min anticipated delivery time, which I was OK with. About an hour and 5 mins later my order shows up. The driver was nice, but when I asked if the tip I put in online was included, he said "just the little bit you said online." Classy! So I unpackage everything and it's A TON of food - I got the General Tso's chicken with fried rice and a side of orange chicken. The "side" is definitely entree size. That sounds great, right? Ummm, negative. All of my food was completely cold and both entrees were utterly inedible. The fried rice was passable so essentially I just paid $18 for 2 cups of egg fried rice (no meats or veg). The food here is pretty good. I liked the pork fried rice and the dumplings the best. The shrimp lo mein was average, but there was a good amount of shrimp in it. The downside is that besides your food being brought to the table, you're serving yourself for everything else. Since you pay at the counter after ordering, if I had known that I would be serving myself drinks, utensils, etc., then I would've only tipped a couple of dollars at the time of payment. Ok People here' s my Review: I tried the white- rice tonight it was Deeelicious.(made my own beef to add to it) The Won-Ton's were so old, and disgusting, I was very disappointed , they were like $5 . Mongolian Beef does not contain scallions. Instead, extra cooked onions are used. A bit of a let down for those who are expecting the scallions and its flavor and texture. Otherwise, the beef was tender and the overall flavor and texture of the food was good. Just different than the typical Mongolian Beef with scallions. read more

Today, I had to have some Chen's Garden because I love this place, or so I thought :(. You see, I am a repeat customer. My husband and I thought we had finally found a Chinese restaurant that finally made some pretty descent dishes. Then, today happened. My son and I ordered some lunch. Chen's is less than a mile away from me, but it took the delivery a little over an hour to arrive. No biggie, shit happens sometimes. Our food finally arrived and they delivery guy started demanding more of a tip! My tab was about $15 and I had already tipped $2.00 on that, plus the $1 fee for gas. He started getting upset and claiming he only gets $0.50 for a tip- whatever that means..? I pointed out the tip to him on the receipt and he would not hear of that being enough. After a few awkward moments of me being baffled over him trying to hustle us for more cash, he got pissed and stormed off as he said nothing more to me. At least the food is delicious and we can move past the angry delivery guy. NOPE! I ordered orange chicken and it was tasteless and cold. Egg rolls are stated to come with the lunch, but we received cream cheese won-tons instead. That would have been OK had they had any filling in them. It was just a fried shell. Maybe the won-ton soup will be delicious on this cold day. NOPE. It was tasteless broth with 4 dumplings in there that were also tasteless and looked to be just dough. The soup did not have any vegetables nor spice in it. It was if they opened a can of dollar store brand beef broth and threw some dumplings in it- called it good. I ordered my food from Eat24, so I hit their customer service up to get this complaint in the air and ask for a refund on my disgusting lunch. They called Chen's and they refused to refund anything at all. So, not only did they send a rude delivery guy to hassle my young boy and I for more cash, but they delivered food that I ended up throwing away because it was inedible. Eat24 did give me a $10 credit on my account with them, so there is that for the most excellent customer service. Though, I must say that it was not their place to hand out money as it was Chen's job to make this up for their lack of customer service and good food. What a shame. Went for lunch. Staff is very nice, and service was good. Food? Well that's another story. Unfortunately, like many places in America, emphasis is on quantity not quality. Average Chinese at best! Horrible staff, always rude except for most of the delivery people. I actually watched one of the staff argue with a paying customer and call him a asshole. The third time's a charm?? Not tonight I did an online order for beef fried rice with extra vegetables. It came right on time and the delivery girl was very pleasant but my rice was missing the beef and veggies. I called and the lady who answered was apologetic and said my order would be redelivered. They brought the second order within 15 minutes, but guess what my veggie rice had no beef once again. I called again and asked if my dish was supposed to have meat the lady said the cook was confused and thought I wanted beef fried rice with only veggies. She said a new cook would make the dish and apologized once again. The third order got here within 15 minutes and it finally had beef but guess what? The veggies were missing. I give up!!! The food is pretty good for the cost. The restaurant is very clean. The little rolls are good and the fried rice has good flavor. The boba needs serious work. Lots of ice chunks and the boba was undercooked and flavorless. Icky. The food is good though. :-) read more

This restaurant is now called Chen's Garden. When it was Spicy Asian, the food was consistently good, delivery was quick and efficient, and service was friendly. This is no longer the case. I ordered their chicken eggplant a while ago, and the eggplant was mushy to the point of being inedible. I decided to give them another chance today. I ordered through the restaurant's Web site and was given a delivery time of 35 minutes. Over an hour later, the food still hadn't arrived, so I called. I was put on hold four times where I could hear the restaurant in the background, but no one would pick the phone back up. After that when I tried to call, I got their voice mail, which, surprise!, was full. Knowing something shady was going on, I started to drive there and finally got through on the way. I was told that orders from the Web site don't go through and that they had no record of my order. I told them to cancel and make sure my money was refunded, as well as recommended they take down the ordering feature on their Web site and that it would help if they answered their phone calls. Afterward, I went to get other food, and, wouldn't you know, they delivered literally as I received my other food (now an hour and a half after ordering). I called back and reviewed the fact that we had agreed to cancel the order, and that I wanted assurance they would not charge for this. The person on the phone was mostly concerned with getting rid of me and said he couldn't check right then because they were very busy. So after eating food from the other restaurant, I drove to Chen's Garden to return their delivery. There were no customers in the restaurant (I'm assuming their overwhelming business is from delivery...?), and the man reiterated that he couldn't refund right now because he had to look on another computer and that I didn't understand. Clearly not. So, I strongly recommend that you take your business elsewhere (I recommend Dragon Boat on Iliff) because the quality of the food has gone downhill and the owners are dishonest. read more

As they are so close, we have tried Chen's numerous times over the years. Never terribly impressed with the quality of the food, but it was fast and close. I am happy to report we didn't even have to suffer through the food tonight. I thought we'd try them again and went to their website and they now have direct ordering. Tried it, was promised delivery in 60-45 minutes which, with a 8:00 order time, was perfect for us. Their web site claims delivery until 9:30, so our order should have been fine. It's now after 10:00, they no longer answer their phone, and the food is not here. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. read more

I ordered take out the other night. I got the D which is Chens BIG plates. It was not very big at all. Plus they did not include the soup which it comes with . I was told that it was not supposed to, then I showed them there own menu where it clearly states that it does. Also, they didn't give me sweet and sour sauce with the sweet and sour chicken. I asked for some and they gave me a tiny plastic container maybe enough for an egg roll. I asked for another and they wanted to charge me 50 cents. There are pluses and minuses to Chen's Garden. On the plus side it is very clean, portion size is generous, food was piping hot and the menu is extensive. On the minus side the food has very little taste. We ordered take out and picked up pork fried rice, pepper steak with onions, beef lo mein and one other beef dish. The pork fried rice was just that, char sui and rice, not one bit of scallion, carrot or anything else you normally expect with fried rice. Looked great but it had no taste. The beef lo mein was mushy and overcooked, though it was a generous portion for two people. The two beef dishes were the same, lovely looking but tasteless. I had high hopes for this new restaurant since the area is really lacking in places to eat. We really want to support local business so we will probably go back and try a few more items before we give up on them. read more

We've ordered to-go here a few times. It's probably some of the cheapest Chinese food in the area and I think it's some of the best. I always get the sesame chicken and it's pretty good. Not too soupy of sauce and not overly sweet. We've tried a few other Chinese places and keep coming back to this one. read more

I'm pretty particular about Chinese food. I like it a certain way and my wife likes hers a totally different way. So in our search to find a restaurant that pleased both our palates we found Chen's Garden. Prices were reasonable and the food was decent enough to order lunch or dinner occasionally when we couldn't order from our other regulars. Today my wife ordered lunch for my son and her and they were greeted at the door by a very callous gentleman who actually complained about the tip he received. He complained that the .50 cent tip wasn't enough for him- to which my wife corrected him that the tip we left was approximately 5x larger than that and considering the amount of food we ordered it was a fine tip. I was a delivery boy for 2 years growing up. If my bosses heard of this behavior you'd be walked out the door. That's pretty much the worst thing a delivery boy can do. You get paid hourly- tips are tips. They are not guarantees. If you want guaranteed money get a different job. Instability is the name of the game- and speed and customer service counts. If you're bad in either arena I reserve my RIGHT to withhold my money- not to mention tipping what I believe to be fair for the job done in the first place. This place is LESS than 5min down the road from me. He had to carry up 3lbs of food up a flight of stairs. $2.50 is plenty for less than 5min worth of work. Seriously- if he could duplicate that over the course of an hour he'd be at $30 an hour. THIS ALONE EARNED THE 1 STAR REVIEW. BUT SOMEHOW IT GETS WORSE. Then my wife and son opened their food. It was disgusting. It was no where near the quality we've come to expect after our 6-8 orders from this location. We ordered through a website- so we contacted them and made our complaint. The food is INEDIBLE. Even my 9 month old daughter who will literally eat anything refused to eat off my wife's plate. My 14 year old boy who's NEVER met a Chinese place he wouldn't eat at spurned his nose up at this food after taking 2 bites. I did not pay this company money to have a rude delivery driver deliver me a plate of inedible food. So my wife contacted the website and we requested our money back- the place REFUSED. Called in an order of for pickup. It would be ready in 10 minutes! Went in to pick up order, was helped immediately, the order was indeed ready, and drove home (approximately 15 minute drive). When I got home, the food was hot and tasted delicious. We will definitely go Chen's Garden again. read more
