The filling in the pork egg roll slightly reminded me of what you'd find in an egg roll from a grocery store freezer, but it wasn't mushy compared to the grocery store kind. I've had better pork egg rolls, but I've also had worse. The shrimp egg roll was surprisingly good. Slightly larger than the pork egg roll, there was a definite difference in terms of quality of the filling and it had notable pieces of shrimp. I don't know if it was cinnamon I was tasting, but there was a hint of something like cinnamon in it, which I've had before in an egg roll elsewhere and makes it stand out from the pack. I would get the shrimp egg roll again. I found it funny when I took the pork fried rice out of the bag that it said "no veg" on the box, which meant onion was the only vegetable in it to begin with. As I quickly determined, if you say no onion all you're getting is fried rice and, in this case, pork. Thankfully, there was way more pork than I was expecting and it was good quality pieces. It would have been nice to have something like carrots or peas or egg in the fried rice as well just to give it another texture without the onion, but I'd still get it again even as such.

The egg rolls from Harvey Moy's score big points with me for being made in house and not tasting like they're from a grocery store freezer. They're also substantially sized compared to egg rolls from most other restaurants. That said, because of their size they weren't hot in the middle, maybe only warm at best. The egg roll filling also had bit a sweetness to it and that's not something I'm necessarily looking for in egg rolls. I thought the filling could have used another vegetable or two just to break up what was primarily chicken and cabbage.

That's the primary goal. If I rated this based on the 3.5 star theory scale, it would be a 5 star. And guess what I'm gonna do next time I go? I'm going to post a 3 star review so mine averages to 3.5 stars. I literally went to this place purely because it was 3.4 star rated when I checked. This was my first experience. Why is 4-star too high? Because it usually means it's fancier, has higher prices, better service... REMEMBER -- if a buffet is 4 or 5 star rated... it's going to have 4 or 5 star pricing!! That's why you go for the 3.5 star. Not 3, that's too low. Chances of food poisoning start getting out of the comfort zone. When I went here, the staff didn't really bother being nice or smiling. They weren't rude, just not really accommodating. You know what I thought about that? One word. "Perfect." Because I knew it meant the food was about to be good as hell, especially for all you can eat. They only had styrofoam cups and plates, as well as plastic silverware. Yet again, I thought "perfect." This is why the 3.5 star theory is the way to go ladies and gentlemen. And, of course, with 3.5 star rating, I got 3-star pricing. $30 for my wife and I to eat here. No food poisoning. No out of budget dinner date. If you don't believe the 3.5 star theory, I challenge you to try it. Compare the 3-stars with the 4-stars next time you go out. I promise you the 4-stars are on the pricier end. Sure it's "nicer" in theory but the 3-stars carry too much risk. With 3.5 you get the pricing of a 3 without the risk. We were peeved but decided we should just enjoy our dinner. BUT as we were finishing up, about 5 couples came in WITHOUT a reservation and both the host and the bartender gave each couple the option to either sit at the bar or at a table. When I confronted the bartender about it, she claimed "they weren't supposed to do that." WHAT?! She literally just offered a couple a table without a reservation. What do you mean?! It was insulting. Anyway, we will absolutely NEVER come back here. The tip we left was solely for the kitchen staff who were hard at work and doing an honest job. Bartender and hosts are discriminatory and awful. Do NOT recommend if you are looking to be treated with respect. Would give zero stars if that were an option.

The egg roll isn't the tiny ones that became the norm over the years and it's super average like 95 % of Asian restaurants now, not like years past when the egg roll was a signature staple in Asian restaurants and they made really good ones. The combination chicken fried rice is that kind you find on most combination menus, not the main dish dark fried rice full of meat and veggies but just enough to accompany the main dish. Overall it's tasty enough and better than the average neighborhood Chinese restaurant and for a dinner combination that was 2 1/2 pounds of food for $13.50, price vs quality vs taste it's a winner.

My vegetable egg roll was very good as well, but nothing terribly unique. He went bold on the entree and ordered the pork intestine and blood cake dish. He really enjoyed it and said it was quite spicy. The portions are generous and he did bring a lot home. I ordered the homestyle tofu, which normally has pork. I got it without to make it vegetarian friendly. The textures were very good and the sauce was intensely flavorful, but mild. I also ordered a supplementary dish of braised mushrooms and Shanghai greens. Everyone at the table enjoyed this dish, particularly the greens, which are a variety of bok choy, called pac choy. The mushrooms were wonderful, with the texture of wood ears. I also had plenty of leftovers to eat the next day. Our friends ordered the Szechuan spicy pork dumplings and they got rave reviews. My cousin did say they were not overly spicy. She went on to order the sizzling black pepper beef, which she said was good, but not nearly as unique or deeply flavored as the other dishes. Her husband ordered the pork intestine with clear noodles, which he enjoyed but said was extremely spicy. He did leave a lot of sauce behind since it was so hot. He also had the ox tendon and maw in spicy sauce, which came with chopped peanuts on top. He seemed really pleased with that dish. We agreed that we would happily go back to explore the menu more. Everything was excellent and I thought the prices were generally quite reasonable, especially for the quantity of food. I do wish the menu had more descriptive text, so I could familiarize myself with the dishes. The choices are many and overwhelming and the menu is huge. I'd also love to see a symbol for vegetarian options since it's very hard to know otherwise and many of the vegetable dishes included pork or other meat. As we left the restaurant was getting increasingly busy with people waiting by the door for seats. This is a popular place for good reason.

The Spicy Pork Dumplings have become my go-to appetizer, and the fried spring rolls are also very good. On a most recent visit, we ordered hot pot. Our server brought us the sheet to make our selections. You can choose from mild broth, spicy broth, or half tray of each. The spicy is pretty hot with lots of red chili peppers soaking in it, so I scooped out the chili peppers to keep rhe flavor but lessen the impact on my palate. For 2 guests, I recommend choosing 3 items from the list, maybe 2 protein and one veggie or 2 veggie and one protein to start. You can order more if you finish and need more. This is in addition to the two appetizers you will choose, which is included with rhe hot pot dinner. It's a great value! Sze Chuan remains on my short list of go-to's for Chinese dining, and I look forward to my next visit, whenever that may be.
