My son has a wheat allergy. For several years, we were purchasing their amazing blueberry muffins- his favorite and then he started to request that his birthday cupcakes be from Cherbourg. What's amazing is that the cakes don't taste gluten free and all of our guests love them and look forward to them (as well as the frosted cutouts) when we host gatherings. Wow! This place is amazing. Its definitely a hidden gem. Located in Bexley on a little side street and hidden btw several other businesses. I had no clue it was there, but I started to hear about it on social media and decided to make the trip over to try it out. It's super popular! Even on a weekday the line was out the door as people lined up to grab a sweet treat. They have a big menu with tons of offerings. Not to mention everything is gluten free, I believe its vegan too bit dont quote me on that. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Their case was packed full with treats, but theres wasnt really signs describing each thing, so it was nice that they took time to explain what each item was and give their recommendations. My favorite was definitely the smores bar. I was super impressed by the texture of it and the marshmallow topping was to die for. I also like the donuts. Interesting enough they had mini donuts and full sized ones. There was several flavors, I went with strawberry. Simply excellent!!! Highly recommend stopping by if you have already. read more

My friend and I came across this cute bakery on the way to our friend's house, where we were headed empty-handed. Luckily, we took a wrong turn and found Cherbourg! There wasn't much left when we got there, which to me is a good sign. Everything is baked fresh, and when it's gone- it's gone. We got two of everything that was left: double lemon bars (apparently, their most popular item), espresso brownies, and some sort of pumpkin chocolate chip bar. The lemon bars were delicious...no wonder they are the most popular! They have the perfect balance of tartness to sweetness. These lemon bars were the first to disappear among our friends! The espresso brownies were so moist and didn't have an overwhelming coffee flavor; I could have eaten a whole box of these suckers. I didn't care for the chocolate chip pumpkin bar, but it was moist and soft- it was our least favorite. The prices are a little high here but worth it. Everything made at Cherbourg is gluten and nut free (who knew gluten-free baked goods could be so yummy), so no need to worry about who has what allergy if you are bringing goodies from here. Can't wait to take another wrong turn on the way to my friend's and "accidentally" run into this bakery again! read more

This place is heaven. Just heaven. You have to get here early to get your goodies because they run out fast! I actually get depressed thinking of all the weekends that I cannot make it here because it's a little out of the way. I am really hoping that they open another location. They have wonderful savory and sweet items to choose from. Please stay open longer or get another location. I'm greedy! I went here one morning too late and all they had left was quiche. Of course I wanted an espresso brownie or a smores brownie, but I thought why not? I'll give the quiche a try. And wow. Just wow. I inhaled a fluffy and moist slice of nirvana with a hint of cheddar and dill. I sipped on my coffee and sat at little bistro table inside. My day was made. Definitely a gem. I'd like to see more GF AND DF products. When I stopped in, there was only one option for gluten-free AND dairy free. I understand that it makes things difficult yet most people I've met who are GF are also sensitive to dairy, so it would be nice to have a one-stop shop :) I did buy a few things - donuts and lemon bars. They were delicious! Lemon bars were a little too sweet for me, but I like things tart. So if you love your sweets SWEET, I think this is a perfect place for you. Enjoy! read more

This was a fantastic find on our cross country trip! Cherbourg is a gluten free bakery with baked goods and breakfast items. We ordered the strata, lemon bars, and chocolate donuts. The strata was incredible, and I was thrilled to find the owner has a blog with the recipe posted. I always make strata for Christmas morning, and I'm going to use her recipe next time! The lemon bars were so good too, I wish we were locals but grateful we can try some of the delicious recipes at home. We'll be back on our next trip through Ohio! read more

Haven't been reviewing much since I've been relegated to a gluten-free diet. But this place is the bomb!!! Haven't tried one thing that I wasn't satisfied with....so far I've tried -mocha brownies -s'more bars -Pumpkin bars -at least three kinds of donuts -several muffins -madeleines (some savory) -strata -probably more, but I'm getting too hungry to continue.... Anyway, it is very very small. You can watch them making the items by hand. The people who work there are very friendly. You can tell that they like each other, like what they do, and are proud of their products. I've taken their rosemary polenta cake and lemon pound cake to work events and people loved them. If you have family or friends who are gluten-free, they are probably used to being left out when it comes to breaking bread with friends. You seriously have to introduce them to Cherbourg. There will be nothing there they can't eat because the whole facility is glutenfree (and nut free). Those of you who can eat gluten, I promise you-you won't miss it!!! read more

I love pie. I love pie so much that for years, instead of a cake, I received a birthday peach pie. Then, in 2009 tragedy hit. I was diagnosed with Celiac disease. Eff. Geri and the rest of the Cherbourg team has reunited me with all that is good about dessert. For the first time in three years, I received a delicious, fresh baked peach pie, handmade by Geri herself from Cherbourg. Not only was it amazing with its flaky crust and fresh peaches, but it was super affordable. Two berry pies later, and I'm a believer in Geri's pies. But I'm also a believer in her lemon bars, s'mores bars, pay day cookies, tiramisu cookies, cream puffs (!!!), muffins, black tie cupcakes... how do I stop? I'm on the Paula Deen train to diabetes as we speak, but I'm thankful everyday that a place like Cherbourg exists in Columbus. Glutards like me struggle to find baked goods that hit the spot, and I'll tell ya, this is the place to find 'em. Also- don't pass up the egg strata. With an olive oil and sea salt bread base, goat cheese, sundried tomatoes, olives, and spices, this is an awesome way to kick off your day if you're gluten-free (even if you're not.. it's still awesome). read more

Although I just popped in to Cherbourg Bakery for what amounted to 5 minutes, I had a very pleasant experience. The young lady at the counter took the time to explain what every menu item was, and was very patient after several failed credit card payment attempts. I have been meaning to come in for a long time and I'm so glad I finally stopped in! And I almost forgot: everything was delicious! Cherbourg is amazing. My husband has Celiac, so we started going there to get some treats for him, but the gluten-free goodies are now the favorites of the rest of the family also. I have been disappointed by almost every regular gluten donut since tasting Cherbourg's (especially the cinnamon), and my children (ages 4 and 2) both ask regularly if we can go to Cherbourg for zucchini loaf. Imagine a toddler in the backseat cheering, "keeeneee! keeeneeee!" Every time we go I'm surprised by the reasonable prices (sometimes cheaper than a typical bakery, which is amazing because I know how much more gluten free baking supplies cost). The service is always friendly, they accomodate call-ahead orders with ease (a must for the cream puffs, crescent rolls and anything else you'll be sad if they're out of), and there are so many great choices. We particularly love the s'mores bars, zucchini loaf, donuts, and lemon bars. Someday when our children are less like wild animals we look forward to sitting down and enjoying a cup of coffee with our treats! read more

As someone who's had a nut allergy most of their life, when I discovered this place I was so excited! I hadn't had a donut in yeeeeears so I really wanted to have one. Sadly, we got there in the late afternoon on a Saturday & the had run out. I got a granola bar, cream puff, & a cream-filled cupcake. I hadn't had a granola bar in almost 10 years & this one was the best one I've ever had. The rest was so good as well but the homemade chewy granola bar was the highlight of my visit. While most of this stuff I could make at home, it was nice to visit a bakery & buy something from it that wasn't water because of fear of a deadly reaction. It is a huge delight to find a gluten-nut-free bakery near my home in Bexley, OH. I've sampled a lot of their baked goods and tea, it's all great. My disappointment is that a lot of them have dairy and white sugar which I am trying to avoid. They also do not serve breakfast sandwiches with meat (sausages/bacon,etc). The prices is on the steep side, so I can only come at least once a month. Service is friendly - quite a few servers knew a little bit of sign language to my delight!! Atmosphere is cute, cozy and small. People are always coming and going. I hope to bring more friends here. read more

Popped in here quickly during a morning of errands. Pleasantly surprised by the variety of treats available. Was only planning get a pour over coffee (the only option - and for good reason) but the large, gluten free blueberry muffin with crumble topping wouldn't stop calling my name. It was outstanding!!! I was half expecting it to be missing "something" (gluten) but you can't even tell. It was chock full of delicious blueberries and had that perfect balance of sweetness. Cherbourg Bakery is a cute and quaint little shop located right around the corner from the Drexel. So cute, in fact, that I want to pinch their cheeks and squeal with delight! Specializing in gluten-free (and nut-free) decedent treats, Cherbourg bakery has one of the best brownies I have ever tasted. And you would never know it by looking at it. Unassuming it stands in the case, lightly dusted with powdered sugar. But take one bite and you'll see how the taste and texture is so rich and complex. The secret ingredient must be espresso powder, but even I don't think I can recreate this delicious chocolate staple. The lemon bar is equally as complex in flavor, but the gluten-free crust is, well, obviously gluten-free. It has the slightly grainy texture that is so hard to overcome.with gluten-free restrictions. I've also tried a pumpkin bar with chocolate chips that was out of this world, with none of the graininess found in the lemon bar. As someone with Celiac's Disease, I can assure you this is the best bakery in the Central Ohio Area. It is a super cute bakery nestled in the Bexley area and is open Monday - Saturday. Most gluten free bakeries have weird hours of operation and are hard to get to. They have staple items that you can always find freshly made. The best thing is that they very rarely run out of things. Most other gluten free bakeries will make things in the morning, and then when they run out, there's none to be found until the following business day. They always have several options and always fresh. The espresso brownies, black tie cupcakes and smores bars are the best I have ever had. The staff is always super friendly and take the time to get to know you. I take their items to cookouts and potlucks all of the time. No one ever knows they are gluten free and in fact I have sent several people there without telling them and they never tasted a difference. Most importantly though, I feel it is one of THE ONLY places in Columbus you can go as a Celiac to have a perfectly tasting treat and feel like a "normal person". As a Celiac I always used to feel so bummed out that I couldn't go to a party and enjoy some birthday cake or pastries. Now, I can and they are delicious! Cherbourg is 100% gluten and nut free so there are never worries of any cross contamination. It's the perfect place to go have cup of coffee, read the paper and watch the world go by :) read more

I had such a great experience here and everything was sooo good! Even though it was quite busy, I was welcomed immediately upon entry. Being clueless as to all of the goodies they offered, Jerrie happily gave me the 'tour de sweeties'. There were so many tasty things that I'll have to go back for round two! Round one consisted of a pour-over coffee (good), S'more cookie (uh-mazing), home-made granola (good-high protein), baked cinnamon donut (NOMNOM) and jalapeno cheddar biscuit of sorts. It is a small shop but the outside seating is a nice way to open it up in the summer. Everything is made fresh and very reasonably-priced. If you haven't been, go!
