Since my previous review a LOT has changed at Chesterfield's! This was my second visit to their new location so it had been decades since my last visit and this second visit was many years after I last ate here in 2019. I have to say I still prefer their old location better which is largely more for nostalgia's sake. The service was less than I had come to expect from the old location so that could certainly use some improvement and it seemed to have gotten even worse for my second visit to the new spot. The food has declined from my past first visit to this new location sadly. The open faced prime rib sandwich served with a side of au jus was my go to staple here for many years but they no longer have that on the menu sadly. The only other entrée I ever ordered here was one of the Gulf fish specials which they still had some of those at least but not as good a choice as they used to have. For my second visit the menu was so uninspiring to me I just got a cheeseburger and it was fortunately a decently good cheeseburger. For Hattiesburg this is probably still one of the better places to eat. They have continued doing a nice tray of their dessert selections setting out on display to really try and tempt your soul with lust for their sweet treats. I really think they need to up their game again and go back to what they used to be! Overall if you're in the area this is probably a good choice for the food or their bar which will be better than any of the many nearby chains like Applebee's but not quite as good as Crescent City Grill. read more

We've been several times when family comes to town, always happy , but granddaughter ordered a steak last time and it was terrible, couldn't even eat it so much gristle , it was awful. Didn't want to send it back. Yes we'll be back but never order a steak. If we want steak we will go to steak house. read more

I woke up and had a taste for blueberry pancakes and thought I'd give Chesterfields a visit. It was nearing 2 o'clock so I called ahead and ordered them, but told the guy taking my order I am coming to eat at the bar. I made it there 8 minutes later and asked Jacob ( the bartender) if he could check and see if they've boxed my meal and if not could they plate it. I was ok if they had already done so. Shortly after a manager by the name of Kelsey emerges and says in the rudest way possible "We Don't Do That!" Her nastiest is the reason for my disdain. Had she come out and simply told me that anything ordered for take out could'nt be plated professionally, there would be no problem. Somewhere she's learned it's ok to speak to people in a rude aggressive manner and I refuse to ever be treated that way. I've come to Chesterfield's over 20 years and I've never had anyone at this establishment act like this towards me. I will say Jay made it better by remaking my hard pancakes and speaking kindly to me. Jacob was also the sweetest, as he made me a wonderful Peach Bellini. The food was pretty good. I ordered the mahi tuna. I was asked how I wanted it cooked. Not sure if that's a problem with the waitress, how they normally cook mahi, or my expectation. I always thought mahi is seared on both sides and served with a raw or slightly raw center. That's how it's always been until now. She pressed me so I said medium. It was still good, but not sure they know how to properly cook it. They had a kids menu, but can't offer milk. That's very odd. The food was good, but not sure I'd go back. read more

Traveling with our dog on a hot day so it was a delight to find a dog friendly restaurant with a covered outdoor dining area that had a tv set, mini waterfall and several tables. The menu boasts a wide selection of items for many tastes. I had the beef po boy with crawfish, gravy, jalapeño and queso sauce. Good service despite it being very busy on a Saturday. Awful Experience - Rude, Unprofessional Manager Ruined a Birthday Brunch We had high hopes for Chesterfield, but our visit was completely ruined by the unbelievably rude and unprofessional behavior of the manager, Joshua. My friend had planned a birthday brunch and arrived with a group of ladies to celebrate. When she asked if we could be seated (6 of the 8 expected guests had arrived), Joshua refused, saying we had to wait for the full party. She then let him know that it would actually be 6 of 6, not 8, and asked again if we could be seated. Instead of handling the situation with professionalism, Joshua raised his voice and snapped, "You need to listen to me," loud enough that other patrons turned to look. It was completely uncalled for and embarrassing. My friend calmly explained that she was just trying to enjoy her birthday weekend and didn't appreciate being yelled at. Rather than apologizing, he continued to be hostile, telling us we could "go somewhere else" and nastily added, "Have a good day." Needless to say, we left--and took our business with us. They lost out on a large table, a birthday celebration, and a gift card purchase I was planning to make for my mom. We ended up going to Vicious Biscuit down the street instead, and it was a night and day difference. The staff there was friendly, the service was great, and the food was delicious. I do not recommend Chesterfield at all. There are far better places in town where guests are actually treated with basic respect. read more

My husband and I went to Chesterfield's to have dinner and watch the game, and they wouldn't let us sit in the bar area (not at the bar... just a table) because we had our infant with us. Yep, our baby who can't even sit up on his own. We weren't trying to drink or cause a scene, just wanted dinner and a decent view of the game because it's the only area that plays it. The hostess acted like we were trying to sneak him into a club. It honestly blew my mind. I thought she was joking at first. When we asked to speak with the manager, Josh, he was not accommodating at all and honestly just came across rude. No attempt to explain or offer any kind of solution, just attitude. So yeah, won't be back. There are plenty of other restaurants in Hattiesburg that actually welcome families and use a little common sense. read more

I gave this review some thought on how I would proceed. The restaurant is very nice and well kept for service. Our server was very friendly and our party of 7 was able to have some great conversation. It was nice a quiet in the room we were seated in. We had the boudin egg rolls, crab bread and spinach artichoke dip for appetizers. All were good and we were so hungry I didn't get any pictures. The entrees were all good but we didn't really care for the crab claws very much. Not sure if it was the way they were cooked or if they were frozen. The rest of our food was great. I had the swamp po'boy. I strange combination but it works and was tasty. The seafood potato was delicious and large. The hamburger steak was excellent. We will definitely be in for another visit and another try the next time we are in Hattiesburg. read more

The service was pretty good, I had Claire and she was very attentive. My drink was always full, no matter how many teas I drank. She checked on me every little while. Food was good, my sweet potato fries were over cooked but when Claire brought them she instantly asked me if I wanted a new ones since she could see they were burnt. Very good service. We decided to try Chesterfields out again since it had been a while since we had been there. The atmosphere was much better than before when it was so loud you could not hear the person across the table. The food was decent but I have a hard time paying high food prices for something I can cook much better at home. The big beef I have with the experience was the service and mandatory gratuity. The term "gratuity" comes from the Latin word gratuitus, meaning "free" or "given without obligation." It later evolved through the French word gratuité, meaning "a gift or favor." In English, the term was adopted in the 15th century to refer to a financial reward given voluntarily for services rendered, which is how we use it today--often as a synonym for a tip. I believe in giving really good tips when it is warrante. When the service is good, promo and courteous. I take offense to a mandated gratuity especially for a small party. The service was less than prompt, not because the young lady was incompetent but because she was spread too thin. I'm going to predict our presence there will be another decade. There are too many capable restaurants without mandated tips and better service. read more

It was great: the service, the food, my husband had a hard time deciding what to get and suggested we might have to come back to try something else next time. Great value for cocktails, we were not there during happy hour. I loved the deep fried pecan pie and would have a hard time not getting the ribs again!!!! They were So good, the meat feel off the bone! I had so much I took some home for lunch the next day. I always saw the outside of the building and thought it looks like an old Olive Garden...but it's not old inside. It's cute Hattiesburg decor. The worst service I have ever received. We had to ask for drink refills and our waiter was not attentive at all. We ordered food with side salads and didn't receive our salads until after our meal came. The waiter brought our check without offering us dessert and then to top it off we were forced to pay an 18% gratuity. The waiter did not deserve 18%. To add insult to injury the host came to the table because we inquired about the gratuity and he proceeded to belittle us and speak down to us. We will never be eating here again. The food was okay. Most of their food lacks seasoning. The gumbo was really bland but after I added salt, pepper, creole seasoning & tobasco (provided on the table), it was really good. Their blackened redfish tasted pretty good but was a little dry. We asked for some creole sauce on the side, and it definitely made it better. My husband ordered the ribs & fried fish. The ribs had a little too much sauce on it and it tasted like that fake bbq sauce. The meat was really soft and tender though. Again, their fried shrimp, fries & okra were lacking seasoning but was all fixed with a little table salt & creole seasoning. The service was really nice and quick. Went here with my family. Really enjoyed it. Normally when I see a large menu with a wide variety of food offerings, I get worried. This was not an issue. I got the fried seafood lunch. The fries, hush puppies, shrimp and catfish were perfectly seasoned and fried. We also ordered desserts. Would definitely recommend you split a dessert between at least two people. The prices were pretty reasonable as well. The server was pleasant as well and pretty attentive. She did make a minor error when giving us the bill, but fixed it quickly. When your 21 year old college son calls and wants to hang out, you drop everything and go! Tonight, we chose Chesterfields in Hattiesburg, MS. We decided to sit in the bar area because there are big screen televisions, and it's quite laid back and spacious. MaKenzi was our waitress and was super friendly and prompt. I chose the Lagniappe po-boy with sweet potato fries. My son decided on the Nola bowl. The po-boy consisted of fried shrimp, fried crawfish tails, fried jalapeños, lettuce tomato, pickles and remoulade sauce on fresh toasted French bread. The Nola bowl had cheese grits with a fried crab cake, barbecue shrimp topped with a egg cooked to your liking. (Over medium for him). The po-boy certainly did not disappoint. The seafood was fresh and came with generous portions of shrimp and crawfish tails. The remoulade sauce was delicious as well. I did get it on the side just in case I didn't like it. The Nola bowl was scrumptious! I wondered if it would compliment each other, but OMG! I will get this the next time we go back for sure! read more

I had a terrible experience here. I ordered the seafood stuffed Fried Pork Chops & they were the definition of disgusting. I asked for the manager thinking that just like any other restaurant I would be able to swop it out. Apparently, they have a policy where if you are un happy with your food you still have to pay for it. The manager offered to give me some more pork chops but why would I want more of food I don't like? He wouldn't accommodate me so I just paid for a meal I didn't even eat. I left the restaurant disappointed & still hungry. I wish I would've took a picture on how they plated my food.
