I've tried this restaurant three times on different visits to Hattiesburg and every time the food & service was great! I think my favorite choices have been the chicken nachos as an appetizer and the blackened salmon with shrimp grits & brussel sprouts. Highly recommend Chesterfield's for great food, service and outdoor patio dining. We went for lunch with friends one day and returned the next evening by ourselves. Both days we enjoyed sitting on the patio and they also welcomed our dog. So nice, especially in summer when it is too hot to leave pets in the car. They even offered to bring him water. There are fans to stir a breeze. We enjoyed the crab cake appetizer. My husband raved about the beef 49er while I enjoyed the fried oysters. The cole slaw and hushpuppies were also delicious. They graciously allow substitutions for the fries. We both chose fresh fruit which was indeed fresh! In both visits, our servers were outstanding, attentive and got our orders just right. Ordered the Blackened Chicken Alfredo recently using Waiter/ASAP to deliver. Very disappointing. Not much flavor except salt. Used to like this a long time ago. It used to be good. If you like Chicken Alfredo, Crescent city has a much better one. Also, using the Waiter/ASAP app is a pain. No way to contact your driver or see their picture like Doordash does. I hate that I'm writing this review. Chesterfields used to be our favorite go to place in Hattiesburg. Unfortunately it's really went down over the last year or so. The service is no longer awesome- probably has something to do with the 18% automatic gratuity that's added to your check.... Yes that's right they add automatic gratuity for just one person even. I found it ridiculous. If my server is good I always tip decent. However being told I have to pay your employee a certain amount no matter what service I get is not ok! So me an my sister was going to an event on a Sunday and we went several hours early just so we could eat at chesterfields before hand since they close at 4 on Sundays. I haven't been to chesterfields on the weekend in a while. I normally go for a lunch during the week so I was excited to hit brunch as I used to love chesterfields brunch. First we went straight in which I was surprised as I expected a wait on a Sunday (as before we have waited HOURS on a Sunday.) and this should of been my first clue that chesterfields ain't the Sunday spot anymore- but we was seated immediately. It took several minutes for a waitress to show up. She took our drink and appetizer orders. When she come back we had a few questions which seen very unsure of the menu questions but then when I asked if the "Big Chicken fried Steak" was the same as the lunch chicken fried steak special they have during the week she assured me it was. We both ordered the Big fried chicken steak breakfast and I also added a side of pancakes as the crispy edge pancakes at Chesterfield's is stuff you dream of.... It seemed to take a long time to get our food but we didn't mind since was had plenty of time to kill. The waitress was MIA most of the time but she did bring our food out. No pancakes. I said excuse me we also had pancakes. She said "oh yeh oh pancakes was supposed to come with that" I said no but I ordered pancakes on the side. She looked EXTREMELY confused and stuttered and said ooo'hh OH!! I'll be back and took off. It was clear she didn't put them in. So we began eating so our food didn't get cold. The fried steak was NOT like the lunch steak. It had basically ZERO breading/batter on it. It was basically pan fried in a bed of Salt. Yes- salt- and I literally salt salt salt everything and I realize I eat more salt than more people so when my mouth puckered and nearly went dry from the extreme amount of salt on this steak it probably would of sent a normal person into cardiac arrest. I am dead serious. There was so much salt on the steak it was basically not edible. The hash browns was swimming in a pool of oil and butter and slathered in salt. The biscuit was raw on the inside. Pass. So we sat and waited about ten mins after the food come out she come with my pancakes. So I decided to just eat the pancakes I had been dreaming off but i quickly realized I was in a actually nightmare. No crispy edges. Undercooked in the middle I nearly cried. The waitress come back some time later and I asked for a box (for my dog I mean someone should eat it as much as I ended up paying). And she disappeared... again. It took us what seemed liked forever to get paid out and then to top it off the ticket amount I signed (which I have a picture of) is NOT the amount they run thru. They added to my ticket for more tip. I am not sure if I will contact my bank and file a dispute and bother the fuss for few bucks or it I will do it off principle- or if me and my entire family just won't ever go back there and have them lose our business. At any rate is was extremely disappointing from the food to the service. Then the bill was kick in the gut. They stole from me by charging an unapproved tip to my card. I am pure disgusted and disappointed in Chesterfield's. I would urge you to go there with caution if you go and 100% take a picture of your signed receipt for proof! I'm glad I did! read more

Yep, I didn't receive silverware or napkins until after I was almost done with my fries. But the waiter first question was how are the checks split. The food was pretty good and the service wasn't bad. My only problem, and this is a major one for me, they added an 18% gratuity to our meal. No biggie when there are large groups of 5-6 or more, but to add it on a couple is odd to me. First of all, it wasn't specified on the menu that it would be added. Secondly, when you scan to pay with your phone, the added gratuity is labeled as a "service fee" which seems very deceptive. Probably won't be going back on the simple grounds of deception. I typically tip 20-22% so the amount of the gratuity isn't my issue, but the automatic add and deceptive trick bothers me. read more

We drove hours to celebrate my cousins birthday with her and asked to be seated on the patio. We were a group of roughly 20 people. The hostess had let us know the patio was in fact the only place we could sit and be together however.... They wouldn't allow it for fear of us walking out on the check as it's been done before. In an effort identify with the severity of such an occurrence I offered my card to hold to mitigate the concern given my cousin really wanted to eat at this establishment. The manager insisted he would NOT allow it even with a card held to pay the bill. I honestly believe we were profiled based on social media trends given we were a large group of African American guests. They'll lose money targeting minority families in this way. His approach to relaying his position was tragic, insulting and overall allowed for a brief but disappointing experience for my first visit to this restaurant. He and his team missed out. read more

Very nice restaurant, has a large variety of food, friendly staff, and great atmosphere. The hamburger steak is very large and very good! My husband had the fish tacos and he really enjoyed them. The hot chocolate brownie with ice cream was amazing. The price is not bad either, for the quality. We will be back! read more

The food was wonderful and cooked perfectly. We had fried mushrooms as an appetizer that were huge!! But very tasty. We both had steak and baked potatoes. I was just passing through Hattiesburg and tried Chesterfields. It proved to be a great place for breakfast. Fast service and everyone working there is pleasant. Food was prepared perfectly. Chesterfield is a restaurant that everyone should pass up on hardy street. The manager speak of policies and private restaurant with most unprofessional behavior anyone has ever seen. For instance our $32.00 crab crabs were dense and nasty. We asked of the waitress to speak with the manager regarding the imitation crab cakes. She came back and stated, the manager said we can't take them off , although only a half of bit was eaten. Yes, they were grilled however, crab cakes grilled or fried to perfection doesn't have an imitation test or look as if they were dropped on the floor and added to my plate. The wrong people are working in this restaurant and no one should waste money on their food. I would stay away from this place. Zero stars ZERO stars. HIRE NEW MANAGEMENT!!!!!! read more
