Went for a late Friday night dinner. Restaurant was mostly empty and we were able to get a seat near the water right away. Really love the ambience here. Nice view out on the water, and tasteful decorations throughout. Started with a nice bottle of Domaine Carneros bubbly. Came out chilled with fair quality flutes. Waitress had some difficulty popping the cork, so I took over for her. The cheddar biscuits and butter are phenomenal here. I had the seafood platter. The thin crab cake was excellent, but leaving me wishing it were a bit bigger. The shrimp, too, was tremendous. I would have loved a whole plate of the shrimp. The flounder was fair. It was cooked well, but lacked flavor. The accompaniments of potatoes and vegetables were ho-hum - nothing to write home about. Overall, an excellent night out. read more

After going here for the past 10 plus years while on vacation we were sad to see it slipping. The rolls were the best part of the overpriced meal. The "early bird specials" were the same price as normal time per the menu, so no advantage to getting there early. We had crab cakes that were greasy and not much flavor although there was quite a bit of crab. The sauce served with was not very good either. Shrimp and grits came out with a brown greasy sauce on top, the flavor was underwhelming. The "early bird" entree of steak and crab cake was ok. The steak had a good flavor but the sides are pre determined red potatoes and bland mixed vegetables. The scenery of water, turtles and an alligator was all as usual. The service was also good as usual. The food however really needs a makeover especially for the price. We would only go back if there were substantial changes to the menu. read more

We were there last week, and our food delicious. We had the stuffed mushrooms, small seafood platter and the catch of the day grouper. I hate biscuits and not a fan of muffins, but theirs are amazing!!! The biscuits didn't have that unpleasant greasy smell and weren't too salty and the muffins weren't too sweet. read more

Great place for seafood. both my husband and I ordered the seafood platter. I had it grilled and he had fried. They were both cooked to perfection. In addition, they serve hot cheese biscuits that are to die for! They have earlybird specials and they also have half-sized platters which we ordered and was plenty and we both have heathy appetites. I can't imagine haw large a full platter must be. The service was fantastic as well. We will definitely go back the next time we're in town. read more

Disappointed! Obtained reservation for Sunday Brunch and gentleman on phone abrupt while taking name/ time .... I should have been cognizant of the rudeness at that point, however my family and I wanted brunch! Upon entering establishment again rude staff(manager!)- waited at table for 5 mins before anyone else acknowledges us sitting... Food was actually pretty good so I am giving 2 stars for that only. Bill for 2 adults and 1 child 80$ and totally NOT worth it! Upon leaving 2 gentleman in street clothes at hostess stand and NEITHER said- "thanks, have a good day, or kiss our a&&!!! Always a great spot to hit when in North MB. Decided to go seafood this time with broiled seafood platter. More than enough food. Started with sampler app for the table as well. From the start, we had a pleasant experience. The reservation was very easy to make and even alter. The view was nice and overall vibe was good. I will say the staff seemed flustered, possibly from being short staffed or just adjusting to being reopen after quarantine. It took a while to order drinks but after that service was perfect. While the food was excellent, we had a very bizarre experience with the waitress. We picked the restaurant carefully based on the on-line menu. We made an early reservation specifically for the happy hour menu, because some of our party did not want to spend the usual $30+/plate. Upon arrival, the menu did not really match the one on line (there were no dish descriptions) and there was no happy hour menu. We asked about the happy hour menu and were flatly refused. The waitress claimed it was only available in the bar, but would not allow us to sit in the bar. We then sat through our meal as the waiter in the adjacent section brought happy hour menus to his guests, told them about several specials that our waitress did not (she only seemed to remember the $40+ specials). She also paid little attention to the details of our orders; no lemon in our drinks, salads not prepared as requested. While she was perfunctorily polite, our group seemed to be an inconvenience or annoyance to this waitress. read more

This was the worst food I've had in a while! First a strong fishy smell when you walk in. My menu had food smeared inside of it, and the table cloth was dirty from previous dinners, the window had finger prints smeared all over it! We were really hungry so I didn't leave, however the food was not edible! Flounder brown and slimy inside the salad had been made in advance and wilting no bread just strawberry muffins with fish? I'm a local and should know better than to go to a tourist restaurant on "restaurant row", but we were celebrating a birthday and being it was "off season" Dec. 23rd and was raining like crazy, I threw caution to the wind and gave it a try. We were the 2nd table seated as it was early. Our waiter dropped off the menus without introducing himself and disappeared, not offering to get us a drink while we looked @ the menu. We were at the point of getting up to leave when he reappeared. We placed our orders and found that they didn't have thousand Island dressing, it was replaced with raspberry vinaigrette, really? The dry bisquik biscuits and strawberry mini-muffins arrived with enough butter for 2 of each though there were 4 biscuits and 6 muffins. I ordered the lobster tails, you get no choice of sides which were red skin potatoes and vegetable medley. The potatoes were not the normal small whole or sliced larger potatoes but whole large potatoes and the only vegetable identifiable in the medley was carrots. My lobster was so tough I had to ask the busboy to find our waiter to get me a steak knife to cut it. My wife got the crab cake which had no identifiable crab meat in it and was basically filler shaped like a crab cake, the Bearnaise sauce that accompanied it was nothing more than melted margarine, no tarragon or Worcestershire sauce in it. This was the one of the worst dining experiences we have had in Myrtle Beach. This restaurant tries to act like like it is fine dining, but neither the help nor the food even remotely come close to that. Do yourself a favor, go anywhere else. You have been warned! read more

We have been to Chestnut Hill several times over the past three years and always had a satisfying experience. This year we tried the Sunday brunch for the first time. It was good. Raw oysters on the half shell. You can't go wrong there. The rest of the items were pretty standard and are listed on their website. I was surprised they didn't offer made to order omelettes. (Just used to omelettes being on a brunch.) The food was great and so was the service. Everyone in our party of 7 was happy. We will return. read more

We came here whilst on vacation - the restaurant next door was full with an hour wait so we came here instead - the waitress was awful, the food was bland, under seasoned and the steak had so much fat on it we could hardly eat it - the squash - we left and didn't eat the potatoes - so all in all $68 wasted on a very very poor quality meal. I've been there before and thoroughly enjoyed the food and ambiance. I just got back and I hate to say that I was disappointed. Mainly in the attitude of the management. The service was good and the food for the most part was good. However, The ribeye I ordered was 30% fat. I showed my server all the fat on my plate and all she said was " oh my". As I was leaving I stopped by the front desk and expressed my disappointment. All he said was "...it's Certified Angus Beef". No "I'm sorry sir". This is a good place for dinner, with food that seems like it is made to order. It's fun for younger kids (and kids at heart) to see the alligators and turtles and to feed them your leftovers. Definitely worth the visit. The atmosphere and service are only surpassed by the food. Designed to look out over a small lake with a fountain. There is a platform where they feed the ducks and turtles which gives you something to watch before dark. Most enjoyable meal out for us in a very, very long time. read more

Great dinner value with various specials during the seasons and time blocks. The 1/2 portion seasonal value meals were plenty large for a full meal. Summary - There are better options when selecting a top restaurant. We were super excited to try this place as it came highly recommended by Marriott Vacation club. Apparently, there is a mutual agreement between the two. We ventured out tonight, excited for our special dinner for the week. I got the King Crab legs and my wife got the filet medallions (5 oz each). We ordered the medallions medium rare and medium as we were splitting the 2 meals. When they came out, both were well done ( solid brown).. Bobby, our waiter, was super nice and well mannered - he just needs to be educated on the menu better. The medallions come with a small crab cake on each and we specifically asked if they were lump crab cakes to which he advised they were. Well, they are not - instead, the typical southern flat cake with a lot of filler. The 2nd steak came out blue - purple rare. The 3rd time was a charm - but now our king crab legs were cold. The legs were still ok, my kids fried shrimp was good. But considering this place is supposed to be one of the finer dinner locations, it fell short. The manager was not around either - not that we would expect any discount for the hassle - although it was a big hassle. But Bobby was new and the dinner was not a good experience. Other things this place needs to do is serve their salads on chilled plates and chilled forks. Again, something we expect from a better caliber restaurant. Before you spend top dollar on your special night out, you should consider other options. Thoroughbreds comes to mind The Library is another. Not to mention Ruth Cris. Service-impeccable. Ambiance-wonderful thanks to the turtles and gators you can watch out the windows and the friendly staff. Menu--a nice feature is the stars next to the entrees that are available as small plates. Food--just a shame. I hate to run a place down, but geez. She-crab soup was pretty much a salty sludge that seemed like it had been on the burner for a couple of days. We were hungry, really hungry, and out of 3 of us not one could finish the bowl. Thank god for the house salad and (quite tasty) cheese biscuits and berry muffins. Decent drinks, good wines. Shrimp and Grits--had a taste I can't even describe. closest thing I can think of is like microwaved black plastic with a brown gravy. I actually recoiled from the taste I had of that. Veal Neptune--mostly flavorless meat and seafood totally covered with some kind of thick butter sauce that I wish had been left off completely as it pretty much ruins the dish. I will say there was no lack of seafood on top of the veal. Reminded me very much of what I would expect at the buffet style restaurants in a giant tray under a heat lamp. Lobster tail--Large even as a 'small plate', but overcooked and rubbery to the point that it took a sharp steak knife to cut it. Very expensive @ $31 for the small plate. I found myself looking longingly at the restaurant next door and wishing we had eaten there, and I had no idea what kind of restaurant it even was next door. If you're looking for a great, or even just good, place to eat, keep looking because this is not it. read more

Healthy bourbon pour is the best thing about this place. We dined here after a long day running a conference. My wife got the special NY Strip and Scallops. The scallops were closer to raw than even rare. At the price they charged for the special I figured preparation wouldn't be a problem. I had the Veal Neptune crab, shrimp and scallops. All the crab meat must have gone to one of the other's veal at the table. A couple shrimp and one scallop. None of it had much flavor. Maybe food network has made me want more, but the standard boiled potatoes and steamed veggies fell short as sides in my opinion. Our service was top notch, and I will add we didn't give them an opportunity to fix my wife's scallops since she had a such a large steak. Sending stuff back is generally not our style.
