Came here on a Sunday for late lunch, I called ahead to check if there's dim sum wasn't sure if they stop serving at a certain time. Friendly staff picked up said they still have dim sum. Parked in the back in their parking lot. Got seated right away by nice staff. But they came back and asked this is not enough, I didn't want to argue with them, so we gave them another 10 dollars and said that is all we have is that enough? Server said nothing and left. I had dim sum lunch here few weeks ago from the recommendation of my realtor. Belmont is not in my neck of the woods, so I took her suggestion and was not disappointed. It's not a fancy restaurant, but also not a hole in the wall. The main dining area is fairly spacious, very bright with lots of seating area and comfortable. The dishes offered are traditional dim sum we all love. All we ordered and ate were delicious and flavorful! I should have taken pictures, but slipped my mind since I was talking and eating. Having loved the other Cheung Hings in the Bay, I decided to give this one a try since I was in the area. The entrance kind of reminded me of some episodes of Kitchen Nightmares where it just didn't look like the entrance to a restaurant as it was dirty and felt like it was used partly as storage. No worries I thought, that's how some Chinese restaurants are. Well, in true tradition, I was more or less ignored for a couple minutes as I was getting takeout. The food then took forever to come out, or so I thought. Apparently it was done and the employees just sort of left it on a table, so by the time I got the food and brought it home, it was lukewarm. Black Mushroom Sumai - 5/5, excellent and I loved every bite Bean Curd Skin Roll - 4/5, not my favorite but it was tasty Deep Fried Meat Dumpling - 4/5, really good Steamed Turnip Cake - 3/5, looked nothing like the picture and it came in a regular bowl. The taste was pretty good though. Beef Stew Rice Noodle Roll in Clay Pot - 3/5, meat was really soft but the sauce was very watery. Shredded Pork Pan-Fried Crispy Noodle - 2/5, the noodles lacked flavor and the dish wasn't hot. Sauce was also watery. Steam Egg Custard Bun - 2/5, taste was there but it took nearly 40 minutes to arrive. Donut with Rice Noodle Roll - 1/5 taste was good but this was wayyyyy overpriced. After a week of its soft opening, decided to give it a try today. It's clear that the crew is still figuring out the process. Dum sum is freshly made and come up piping hot. (if it ever comes out :) ) Food: (4/5) Dim sum options are the basics. The scallion & chives dumpling is surprisingly good given the transparent type of wrapper is known to be hard to manage. Roasted duck is as good as the other Cheung Hing's location. Service: (3/5) Hit or miss; one tends to get disoriented at time and the rest are trying hard to work out the process in peak hours. It's clear our order was missed as others who arrived after are getting theirs. The disoriented staff kept avoiding the request to check the order and ultimately found another one to help out. During the whole stay, one party got up and left after seated with tea on table/before ordering, not sure the reason but won't be surprised it's due to the chaos. Place: (3/5) Interior decor: can't recall how it's like back to China Village days as I stopped going there for awhile. It's nothing fancy. As soon as I walked in, I saw a waiter hastily setting down an order of steamed dumpling, claiming that a customer had complained about the dim sum smelling bad. I hesitated for a moment but decided to stay, only to realize it was a mistake. Putting aside the poor quality of the dim sum, the restaurant couldn't even manage the most basic fundamentals--properly steaming, frying, or heating the dim sum. Items like siu mai, beef balls, cheong fun, fried bean curd rolls, spring rolls, Portuguese tarts, and more, all came out lukewarm, far from being hot enough. Even if the dim sum were piping hot, it couldn't save the fact that the quality was subpar. However, the dismissive attitude of the waitstaff, the handling of food by the kitchen staff, the restaurant's lack of commitment and respect for their own offerings, are what proved to be fatal flaws for Cheung Hing. Such standards would have already led to closure in regions like China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau, and it remains to be seen how long they can survive in the Bay Area. read more

This South Bay girl living in the Peninsula is finally happy and doesn't have to drive to Milpitas/Cupertino anymore for decent dim sum. Rating I'd give is 3.5 stars, so I'm rounding it up to 4 stars as it's authentic Cantonese food. Food variety is very good and tasty especially for dim sum. Also solid Cantonese food options for dinner and lunch, but no real ambience. Feels crowded in seating arrangements. Service is ok, but had to ask for various things like soy, more napkins, extra serving forks and spoons, more hot water in the teapot. On the plus side, food was brought out while still hot. I also enjoyed their sticky rice with Chinese sausage and their shrimp balls - though it didn't come with the honeyed mayonnaise as usual, just the sweet and sour sauce. I wan't so excited about their crispy pork belly. You can get better at HL Peninsula. I also really enjoyed their steamed sesame balls. Was going to give them more stars but that service was just not reasonable. We ordered two dishes first then added three more dishes about fifteen minutes after. The first two dishes took almost 45 minutes to arrive, and the last dish they forgot or something and took over an hour to arrive. When we went to pay we paid cash and you can get a 10% discount if paid with cash, but they claimed that discount is only if you let them know?! Then they claimed we did not pay tips or pay enough tips and demanded it or we couldn't leave....When were tips mandatory especially if we waited over an hour for one dish and there were only five tables in the whole restaurant....!?! read more

They have a unique location advantage, there is no dim sum between Palo Alto and San Mateo but here. We were lucky there was no wait. Fry rice and noodle plate price are a few dollars less than some of the more well known establishments up and down the peninsula. Dim sum here are average, shrimp dumpling wrap is on thick side and still fall apart like everywhere else. Oven bake char siu bao came out somewhat char, chicken feet was fine, fry shrimp roll failed, you can taste some gooyi texture inside, may be under cook. This is my first time here trying this restaurant. They have a sister restaurant near my place at SSF on Grand Ave. Came on a Monday night at 7pm. The place was not packed so we didn't had to wait. We had 14 adults and 2 kids so we took the largest table near the back. Once you get seated servers will offer you a dish of fried peanuts and pickled veggies. This place offer dim sum during dinner time so you can order dim sum for dinner too. Food came out quickly and the portion was good size for the buck. Everything was very yummy! Everyone else said the lamb stew and the bittermelon eggwhite beef was very tasty and wanted to order seconds but we ordered so much we didn't order it. Staff was friendly and attentive. They will come check on us if we needed more tea or napkins. Will definitely come back to try other dishes. I was told their roast duck was good but they sold out so will definitely come back to order that. They have a parking lot so parking is not an issue. read more

We were pleased with our food. They didn't skew to be full-flavored mouthwatering dim sum dishes, but they were good. We had the Xiao long baos, custard buns, seafood chow fun, shu mai, and chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, all of which I'd return to have again. Having gone to a number of dim sum restaurants in my life, the environment and the space feels familiar, as if the decor was cut & paste. If you know, you know. Also, I wouldn't lean too far back on your chair, because it feels like it'll break. Service wasn't bad for a quiet Saturday night. I would flag down a server on occasion, but my request would be filled within the minute (regarding water/food order/sauce). The only problem I had is that every time a server walked past us, the heaviest musk of cigarette would slap me across the face. I will say the food is nice here, but in this day and age when you're being asked to pay 20+ percent for service you should ask and expect for the basics. I served myself water. I went to the station and got myself soy sauce, hot sauce and vinegar. I purchased the half portion of Peking Duck and when I questioned where the green onion and normal accompanying plum sauce was, I had four different waitstaff standing around me, obviously saying nasty things about me and criticizing my asks. My choice was to come here because it's a local dim sum spot, but I think that a minimum level of service should be expected. By the way, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon I had to go and actually find someone to take my reservation after standing for 10 minutes at the wait stand. I understand that Chinese food has a fine tradition of poor service and good food, but could you please try to focus a little bit on the human aspect? Rating is for dim sum only! The dim sum dishes are freshly steamed and tasty. I actually think the dim sum is slightly better than China Village and the pricing per dish is also lower. I miss the carts, and service isn't as good however. We ordered using the pamphlet and one of our dishes pan fried shrimp and chive dumplings never came out. It got to the point where we just removed it from our order/bill. Also flagging down anyone for anything is near impossible. The restaurant isn't massive so maybe they're just short staffed. We were NEVER checked upon, and I had to ask three times for forks, and DID NOT receive my one order of steamed rice despite asking for it many times, as well as seeing endless trays of individual servings of steamed rice being served to other tables.
