This review is for the smog test. The check engine light was on and I hadn't noticed it. That is a sure-fire smog fail. The guy went ahead and smogged it even though he knew it was a sure fail just to get the money for the test. Here I am AGAIN just praising this place beyond. I can't not. Andres and Jack have taken such good care of me twice in the last two weeks. As always they are super efficient, kind, and accommodating. I never feel taken advantage of here. Last time even Andres spent a decent amount of time explaining how things work to me under the hood, where all my various fluids go, and just a general amount of things that I am ignorant of with cars. Then Jack talked to me for quite awhile about the new car I'm thinking of getting, and told me a bunch of useful things about how to pick them and some info I didn't know. I'm always taken aback and I think this is just a new level. I work nearby (ish) but don't live nearby and I've come out of my way twice to come here. Had to give this place one star. But they don't deserve it. Mechanic shop is the worse. Older Hispanic guy. Which I'm Hispanic too. Was flirting with a lady. I asked if he can change my oil. Willing to pay up to $60 for service only. Which it's way too much. But he said no. I'm busy the lots are busy. Refused to help me. 10 minute job. I've worked at pepboys before. Worse service ever. Penelope was such a great help. I had to fill up one of those gas canisters and I was having a tough time with it. I went inside thinking that no one would bother to help, but boy was I surprised. Not only did Penelope take the time to help but she was so friendly. Gas stations are one of those places you expect to get bad service. I was going to this Chevron for several years. I never had any issues. The location is really good for anyone that lives up Lake or drives East/West on Altadena Dr. The price at this station is definitely not the cheapest. This can be a good thing though... if you are willing to pay a few extra cents per gallon and never have to wait in a line. Being able to drive up and pick any gas pump you want is luxurious if you ask me. read more

Called in for full tune-up on 2009 Nissan Murano And owner / Head mechanic.. Quoted me $59 for laser spark plugs.!!! I told him what the @@@#. It's not a Porsche.! Then he said that's right.! I can get then cheaper For you.! Around $23.00 Labor $270.00 Parts $270 Taxes $40 So I called AutoZone down the block & those laser Spark plugs cost $17.00 Cheaper ones around $7.00 each So he is trying to come up on everything Marking up the cost on parts plus the labor.! Called 2 shops and the labor is $200.00 flat no taxes So will buy parts myself @ AutoZone. And take it to local shops for $200 labor Saving around $150.00 ... don't go there..!!! read more

I waited 3 months for the mechanic, Jack, to service my car. I was first told that it had to die to determine the issue. As it worsened, I called with the symptoms and was told he knew the part and would order it. The car died a couple months later; then, I was told he had to check it first and had changed his mind about the part-but didn't want me to have it towed there. Another month passed before I contacted Ned, the owner. He diagnosed it over the phone as an electrical problem that they didn't work on. I was disappointed after years of being a loyal customer. I wouldn't give it a star at all if I could. I stopped by the service area at 4:50 pm. I pulled my car up to the big open garage doors as I needed help with my spare tire. Not to put on my spare but to help adjust the cover to the spare. The guy inside told me to move my van then started to slide the doors closed on me but I paused as I asked him if he could help me. I tried to explain what I needed and he slammed one door down and told me to come tomorrow around 8 am and ask for Andrew. I said I worked. He said come at lunch. ***This is like any other Chevron though the gas prices seemed high--maybe it is because I don't use Chevron often or gas just happens to be expensive in this area (as compared to West LA); this Chevron does provide quick-and-easy entering and exiting since it does not sit on a busy intersection; it is also very close to the gelato spot Bulgarini*** This Chevron carries a few snacks; I think they have a few parking spaces available if you are looking to just grab a snack or a drink. read more

The station is clean and nice. The store is also convenient to shop on your way and has everything you can need. The price is a little expensive, I prefer to use other station for fuel. But just to stop here for a bottle of water or a little snack it's fine. read more

I've used these guys for routine service of my Honda Civic Hybrid a few times, and I have mixed feelings. The required work always gets done correctly, and sometimes little (good) things happen, like a burned-out interior cabin light was fixed without me asking, and without the cost appearing on the bill. But (yes, there's a "but") you should always price out all parts and labor. Don't agree to any work being done without your approval, and only give approval after you're told the cost. The nail in the coffin for me was seeing a $70 labor charge (part extra!) to replace the cabin air-filter...which when I did it myself the next time took me exactly 60 seconds after I RTFM. That $70 was buried in the invoice for an $800 major service that the car required, where I basically told them to "have at it" in terms of what needed to be done. So, fool me twice...you get the picture. read more

Ask for Patrick. Fixed my EuroVan correctly the first time. I'd give them a 1/2 star ding for leaving a rag in the car, but Yelp won't let me do it. I've been having trouble finding a competent place to work on my EuroVan -- Pasadena VW just wanted to throw parts (and labor) at my EuroVan 'till something stuck. Amazing and honest service. Visiting this place is like taking a trip back to the service station in Mayberry. The owner Ned knows practically every customer by their first name. He balances his time between smiling and greeting customers at the pumps and registers while pumping gas, and supervising his auto techs and easing the fears of the cost of the customers waiting for car repairs. I trust this place and appreciate the service I receive. Because one of my two cars is over 13 years old, a service center you can really trust is imperative. I just got my oil changed and Ned saw a huge unsightly scratch all over front left fender. He said it looked pretty bad. I had been told it would cost about 2k to repair. He took a cloth with a little gasoline and started rubbing out the damage. Now it is barely visible and before it stuck out like a sore thumb. Prior to that, when our battery died and the car was stuck in the driveway, he came out and gave us a jump free of charge. It turned out we needed a new battery at the end of the day, and we got that done at Altadena Chevron. The first time I drove my car there, Ned's dad cleaned my windshield for me. I tried tipping him and he wouldn't accept a 5$ bill ... Then after he walked away someone said "that guy owns this place." read more

I just got my second oil change here yesterday and they charged me 50% more than previously. I was not satisfied with the excuses they gave me for the increase. $75 is pretty extreme for an oil change that costs a maximum of $50 everywhere else. I recommend that anyone getting any kind of work here gets a quote first as they may charge you what they feel like that day. read more

Something you rarely see these days.... they go the extra mile, they'll check the air in your tires the oil in your car, they will even pump you gas if that's what you need. I took my car to be smogged a few weeks ago. I have never encountered such a rude business owner in all my life. His sense of entitlement dripped from every word he spoke. When he told me the price of the smog check I told him I wasn't interested and that I would go somewhere else. He said he would give me the same price I could get elsewhere and we ran the tests. Upon completion he said the test was one price and the certificate was another fee on top of that. Classic bait and switch. Never use this company. read more

Someone is using a credit card skimmer here to steal folks' credit and debit card numbers. I just had my debit card information stolen and used at a nearby location. The only place I've used my debit card in the area in the last two months has been this gas station. Otherwise this is a good gas station, but they need to keep a better eye on their pumps and suspicious activity. read more

Today was the first time in years that I've been to this place. I came in cause I needed 2 new tires and I received the best customer service ever by one of the of the mechanics. I will say this that when I first got arrived there was one employee who had real bad customer service but the person who had the best customer service his name is Ned he told my fiancé and I what was going on w/the tires I had on my car and he made a call right away and ordered me 2 new tires and said he was going to go and get them once we left. My fiancé and I came back and within 30 min my car was ready. So if you ever take your car here for work to be done ask for Ned he's very polite and has the best customer service hands down!! I went to get a smog check (the cheapest in Altadena) and they showed me my tires were bald and seperating. I also asked for an oil change. They put on great tires my ride is so much better! I planned to spend $30.00 and ended with $706.00.....but am satisfied with the attention and service to have my car safe and ready to go. Their gas is to expensive though. read more

I have a friend that lives on Lake right by this Chevron, which was the primary reason for me getting gas here. After several months now, I still insist that we meet at this location. Not only is it always super clean and stocked, but employees like Phil are always friendly and welcoming. I cannot emphasize enough how having amazing staff like Phil actually creates a desire to want to support a specific business! Personnel makes all the difference. On top of that, we're currently 2 months into the COVID lockdown and this is the ONLY gas station that will allow customers to use their restrooms. Every other one (even other Chevrons) will say they're out of order and post signs accordingly, yet you can sit there in your car and watch employees using them all the time. This is rather disrespectful for a public business and yet another big reason I only support this Chevron even though it's 11 miles from me. I have been an honest and loyal customer of this station for 12 years. Ok there were a few issues with a former mechanic. He Was Fired. How many new tires did I have to buy. After I brought the tires from this station four months earlier. Plus two BMW rims. Not cheap. A lot of my neighbors had the same problem. OK that passed. I only bought my gas for three of our cars at this station for years.OK a bit overpriced but lets say its a neighborhood business and 30 cents a gallon more than average stations was not going to kill me. Ok so I do drive nice cars and I treat them well. I finally decided after a couple of years to try an oil change on my Lexus. Ok I take it in. I was told I needed new tires. OK lets do it. Then I was told I needed new breaks. OK lets do it. BIG MISTAKE. The tires were great I guess but they did not use Lexus or toyota break pads on my Lexus. In four months I returned the car 9 times. One time even the owner and the mechanic had commented they would be embarrassed about the squeaking noise. HEY THEY DID THE WORK. I travel a great deal and to get the car in was becoming a hassle. A few weekends were ruined trying to get the car fixed. Story goes on. I needed another oil change Ned said he would do the breaks again at the same time. Ok I pick the car up. They never turned off the maintenance light saying oil service needed soon. And I was told breaks needed new parts to bring the car BACK AGAIN. Ok my car when this started only had 48k miles on it. I took the car in. And was given a bill for 420.00 this is after the money spend earlier for new breaks. I was furious. I was told I needed new calipers. Anyone knows on a lexus with low mileage this is not right. I said I would pay for the parts but not the labor. OK 370.00. I drove the car to work that morning. Ok no squeaks. Then when driving home from downtown doing 70 on the 110 I heard a bang a pop then a horrible screeching sound. Then my front tire started to seize up It was horrible. I had to get the car off the road and almost hit two cars while I was losing control. Shaking I called the station. WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY CAR. Long story short. THEY DID NOT TIGHTEN the BOLTS ON THE CALIPER I could have been Killed. I had the car towed to Lexus. I found out. Seriously the bolts flew off and the caliper slipped down the rotor and my tire seized. also 1. They never replaced the cheap break pads. 2. I did not need calipers. Lexus calipers are good for at least 200k miles 3. in four months they kept putting more grease on my breaks it made a huge mess. They lied to me they were just trying to cover up the sound with GREASE. I actually had spoken to Ned about this around the 4th Visit. He lied to my face and said he would not do that. then after the 6 return he admitted what he did. FYI HE IS NOT A CERTIFIED MECHANIC. After a 700.00 repair bill plus towing to lexus including a uber receipt from the airport. My car is fixed. Grand total. about 1k in repair costs. BE CAREFUL if you drive an older car fine. If you drive a newer Lexus, BMW, Mercedes DO NOT GO HERE. NED IS NOT TRAINED TO WORK ON THESE CARS. I will miss seeing Lauren, Doris, Phil and Joseline everyday. They were always great to visit with. And one final note, Neds father had said to me they lost money on my breaks. Well if you had done the job right and had been honest the first time this would not have happened. And how much time did I waste returning my car to you. I also have a job. At the end of the day, I could have been badly hurt due to their mistakes. Be careful. read more

I really wish the listing for the garage and the gas station were separate so the garage could get the rating they truly deserve. Ned and the guys are absolutely amazing and always go above and beyond to take care of you and your vehicle. I feel often times, particularly as a woman, you can feel taken advantage of by mechanics. Sudden charges and fees appear at the end of the bill, surprise problems are found that they HAD to fix and agreed upon prices or coupons suddenly don't apply. But, that is ABSOLUTELY not the case here. Ned treats everyone like family and makes sure to walk you through every issue that's found with your car so you never feel bamboozled. All while offering an extremely fair price. No matter how busy they are they always make time to take care of you. I've even called Ned when my car wouldn't start, cities away from the garage, and he was gracious enough to talk me through my issue and get my car started again. The last time we went to them he said it would be another 500.00. We did not take our car back to them. I tryed to go to the referee but the ink they used on the repair receipt disappeared. Decided to stop by on a Saturday afternoon for a repair quote when another shop could not give me a quote until Monday. They provide a quote which seemed reasonable and so I decide to drop off my car. Fifteen minutes after dropping off my car, I get a call with a quote increase of $125. I need my car so they have me by the balls....I agree but my car won't be available until Monday. I get another call on Monday that my car requires another part which would be an easy fix but necessary. Surprise...another $200. I assume that this will take care of the issue but, of course, there are other problems that need repair and they provide a quote of $1,200!!!! Why not diagnose the car first and tell me up front total repair costs? Why bother with the initial repairs if I won't be able to drive my car anyway. Crooked and shady. Avoid this shop or it will cost you dearly. Story ends happily when another shop actually repairs my car for less than $500. read more
