    Beef patty

I've eaten here before and the food was awesome. Today, I just wanted a beef patty. The crust was flaky and the beef was seasoned perfectly. This was my first time trying the carrot cake. Moist but not very sweet. The staff moved quickly to serve, they were nice and welcoming.

I was drawn by the promise of Afro-Caribbean cuisine - would the dishes be a fusion? Distinct entities? Paired entrees? I'm pleased to say that I was not disappointed. Chez Ali is conveniently located at the end of the Food Hall. The grill is set up behind the service counter, and the aromas of grilled chicken follow you as you peruse the menu. There's something wholesome about a simple and easy-to-follow menu, especially when you discover a new restaurant. I ordered a beef patty, veggie samosa, plantains and the sampler - curry chicken, jerk chicken, cabbage and rice. The curry chicken was excellent - tender, flavorful and hitting the right notes. I enjoyed the cabbage side - I know it's not always a crowd favorite, but I find it an excellent, crunchy-sweet way to cut the richness of curry dishes. The plantains are on the softer side, but well-fried. The samosa crust was as flaky as expected, carefully wrapped around well-seasoned vegetables (notes of coriander and cumin I believe), and served hot. I'd dine here again, perhaps to try the oxtail!

We went to the City Foundry today and had a look around their busy food hall. I decided to try Chez Ali as I have always wanted to try jerk chicken. I ordered it with brown rice and it was so flavorful! I really enjoyed having this as my first experience with jerk chicken. The spice was the perfect amount and even the rice had its own distinct flavor that I really enjoyed. The cabbage on the side was a nice palate cleanser as well; it definitely took away some of the kick. I'll have to come back here again to try other menu items in the future!

Hands down some of the best Jamaican food I've ever had! They're located in City Foundry Hall and worth the trip there. We did a two meat combo plate with the curry chicken and pepper chicken. WOW WOW WOW! The right amount of heat, flavor is out of this world, the cabbage had a nice touch and the rice was cooked perfectly. I'd give anything to have this meal close by me. If you're in the Lou. Don't walk, run to this gem! This picture and review will not give it justice. You must try! The portions are hefty. The service was fast and so kind. Plus, City Foundry Hall is darling and there's a ton of seating and even a spot to get a cocktail if you'd like.

Fried plantains, jerk chicken, rice and beans and cabbage

The portions here are generous and flavorful! We got the jerk chicken with rice, beans, and cabbage with a side of fried plantains. The food was well spiced but not too spicy. I think the jerk chicken was very reasonably priced for the amount of food ($16 for the jerk chicken special and $5 for the plantains.) our only minor complaint was little bits of bone in the rice but chickens do have bones in them! The meat comes right off the bone. Also the ambience of the Foundry is great. Very well lit and spacious

Oxtails, potatoes, red beans & rice and cabbage

Last night, we went to the Foundry for trivia night and to my surprise Chez Ali had oxtails on a Thursday. The entire meal was amazing. The meal came with oxtails, potatoes, red beans & rice and cabbage. The oxtails were cooked just right, not overcooked or tough, but tender. The overall Jamaican seasonings were spot on! Needless to say, I could not wait to eat my leftovers for lunch today.

Half eaten jerk chicken, rice and peas and cabbage

This was my first time visiting Chez Ali. As you probably can tell from the half eaten pic that it was DELICIOUS. I paid around 14.00. it's a heaping portion of jerk chicken over a bed of rice and peas, a scoop of cabbage. Chicken was tender and very flavorful. If you like spicy, u will love this. Everything on the plate is spicy, I thought only the chicken would be. Boy, was I wrong, I may need a pepcid later, but it was soooo worth it, y'all. I would go back for sure. Service was fast and pleasant. As for ambiance, it's a food court. It's plenty of seating.

Somewhat hidden inside the food hall of City Foundry but it should be front and center. Best food I've had in awhile. Absolutely delicious! I got the jerk/curry chicken sampler with the red beans and rice. Both types of chicken were incredible! Very good seasoning with tender cooked chicken. Just the right amount of kick. The red beans and rice were also excellent! I asked the employee what their favorite rice was and they were certainly correct in saying the red beans and rice were awesome. The food was hot and fresh. Service was prompt and very friendly. Don't sleep on this place! Rather than eating yet another burger somewhere, consider having this amazing chicken instead.

Sampler - already started digging in

The food stall was open on a Tuesday, even though the Yelp hours listed it as closed... so I was super excited and pleasantly surprised to get to try Chez Ali on my visit to the food hall. The food is soooo good, I think it's worth every penny. Best jerk chicken I've ever tasted. The curry chicken was also delicious. The man working behind the counter was also super friendly!

First time trying out Ivorian Senegalese food and it was so good. Very glad that this place was cafeteria-style so we didn't have to wait that long for our orders in comparison to other places at the City Foundry. I ordered a Chicken Sampler Plate with Jerk Chicken and Curry Chicken. I have to say that the red beans & rice were so incredibly delicious, it went extremely well with the steamed cabbage. Honestly might be the best version of red beans & rice I have ever had. I also really appreciated the jerk chicken, which was super flavorful as the seasoning penetrated even the chicken itself. Overall, I really enjoyed eating at Chez Ali and thought that it was such a great introduction to Ivorian Senegalese cuisine. Would definitely come back to try more. The one thing is that I feel like, yes, even though the portion sizes are pretty big, the prices were pretty steep. Hard for me to justify buying a box of food for $20 but I guess that's just an inflation issue...

This filling had lots of chunks of chicken, and the vegetables and gravy were a flavor bomb. This was the best that I've had in a long time. We went on a Saturday evening and we had to wait around 20 minutes for a table, so if you are planning to go on a busy time, definitely try to get a reservation ahead of time. Our waitress was outstanding, helpful, and kept our drinks refilled constantly. The restaurant is small(ish), but has indoor dining, a four seasons type of room, and outdoor seating. We'll be back!

We were seated quickly and our waitress, Karen, stopped by for drink orders and asked if we had dined there before, that was an affirmative. Karen was no nonsense and efficient, telling us about the special and answering questions about the pot pie. We happened to be seated next to a table from someone I knew, so we didn't have to pretend not to stare at the food they ordered, lol. We just talked about all that we ordered. Their Piccadilly fish looked amazing as did the rib special. I ordered the chicken pot pie, I had been thinking about it, and craving carbs to boot and it didn't disappoint. Karen informed me that it had lima beans and corn, so I wasn't shocked by that. Came in a bowl draped with puff pastry. Pastry was flaky and lightly browned, the base was creamy with lots of chicken chunks, carrots, corn, and lima beans. I haven't had lima beans before and I liked them. I had ordered the soup of the day, Tuscan white bean that sounded great, but I thought it was just ok. Husband ordered the fried chicken with slaw and mashed potatoes. The chicken was HOT! I enjoyed the leg piece I snagged off his plate, the breading is thin and adhered well to the chicken, the slaw was creamy, I didn't try the potatoes. Great home-style food, nice atmosphere, efficient service. Try the pot pie!

It's clean, neat, organized, easy to find what you want with lots of options changing daily. We were here for a week after my mom got surgery so ate here quite a lot and I was blown away day after day. They offer fried foods and a grill with burgers and that type of stuff. Multiple soups. Sandwich bar, sushi, salad bar, and home style cooking. They have an array of drinks to choose from along with different types of coffee. My favorite was the roasted red pepper bisque. One of the nurses taking care of my mom had recommended it. Oh my gosh! It was SO good and all the employees were so excited when they saw me scooping a cup out. They all said it was their favorite as well. One day I had a steak salad thing with fries. It was kind of an odd combo but it worked and actually really hit the spot. Their chicken tenders are good and massive. Their fries are good. I was pleased with most meals I ate there. Its fast and cheap and the fact they have healthy options is great! For a hospital I was really shocked by the quality. Hospitals where im from the food is insanely expensive and taste aweful. Give it a try, you may be surprised. I know I sure was!

I am on special diets and I found the food to be excellent. I was able to request a green salad with lunch and dinner and greatly appreciate the accommodation that I received. I was on a consistent carbohydrate diet, and it offered me more carbs in the way of breads than I usually choose at home, but that was no problem, I just left those items on the plate. The selections were good and the food warm upon arrival. They do have a limited selection of items that can be substituted for the daily chef specials of the two meal choices that you are given. In all truth, it was nice not having to cook or figure out what to eat for a couple days. Food was fresh and had good flavor though lacking salt, so luckily I could add that to the food when it arrived in my room. While it is true that 'There's no place like home,' I greatly appreciate the efforts of those working in the kitchen to make my stay pleasant and with tempting offerings.
