I went into this experience with an open mind. I read the reviews and I can confirm that this restaurant deserves at most three stars. To start, the food was mediocre at best. Compared to restaurants such as Patina 250 and Sear the food here was not up to par. Second, our particular server was rude and made impolite comments behind our back as we were eating. While the hotel is absolutely beautiful, the service was poor and the food even worse. There is an actual charge for "bread service". Despite me noting that it was my anniversary when I made the reservation, it was not acknowledged. I do not mind paying $40 for an entree if the food is good. My fish was over cooked and very fishy....lobster cream sauce was brown and visually unappealing. After being seated, we waited 20 minutes before being welcomed. We had a party of 11 and all agreed that the food was delicious. I do not understand the low marks from the other reviewers. Perhaps they ate there shortly after it opened? Anyways, the tomato pie pizza was very good as was the mushroom pizza covered in arugula. Liked the pizza better at the Elm Street Bakery since it has a more pronounced char wood fire pizza taste. Tasted the loaded burger and that was excellent along with great tasting fries. Service was friendly and very professional. Food came out rather quickly and all at the same time. Atmosphere is awesome and made for a very fun evening out. I gave it 4 stars because I thought the menu was rather limited in scope. Also, I would like to see a choice of salads such as a Caesar added to the menu. Definitely a must try place in downtown Buffalo. read more

Not sure why we keep coming back, been here for drinks, brunches and dinners. The decor and ambience might be why, it's a really nice place to chill and relax. Service at the bar is often slow; servers in restaurant are usually very nice, professional and sometimes knowledgeable about what's on the menu. What nobody ever tells you is, despite the price for each item, Chez Ami doesn't seem to make food, but just reheat prepackaged crap that Denny's might serve. For example, today I had a Brunch burger, and it looked nice. However, the low quality brioche was obviously made in a factory far away and full of preservatives --yeah, I can smell it. When you go here for dinner, you pay extra for bread service--the same bread you can get at Rich's outlet store. Simply put, we were served subpar food on our last few visits... The same type of food you would get at a diner anywhere around town, for about a quarter of the price. Very disappointed lately, Chez Ami is a really nice place, but it's operating below its possibilities; like driving a race car at 10mph. read more

My boyfriend at the time knew I had been wanting and waiting not not only done here but to also stay a night at the Curtis Hotel where Chez Ami is located since they began construction....two nights before Christmas Eve he took me to dinner and didn't tell me where we were going....Y'all it was like the perfect rom com ... anyways we had Moscow mules to start at the bar, Coleen the bar tender was wonderful( I reccomend getting the mule with an egg yolk in it! Trust me ) . Then we were sat and the ambiance was incredible and so romantic, just a gorgeous building, my boyfriend ordered the special of the night I believe they were boneless spare ribs fingerling potatoes and carrots, which he absolutely loved and he's picky.. I ordered bone in ribeye medium rare with sautéed broccoli and it came out to perfection...oh and we started with clams andoulie ( not spelled right) but they were also fantastic.... before our meals came my bf excuses himself to the restroom and when he returned I turned around and he was on his knee and proposed!! The tables behind us erupted in cheers and clapping and treated us to a glass of prosecco....the night was magical and Chez Ami was a part of it and a part of one of the happiest moments in my life so now my fiancé and I are planning a staycation night there soon!! My first ever experience and SO glad I tried it! I started to just order an entree off of the menu but then opted for the hot pot. There are lots of options and add ins to choose from. All the instructions are provided before the ingredients are brought to the table. While we waited for our ingredients, we went up to the sauce bar which contained a wide array of sauce and oil options. The service was good and the portions are quite large. I was very excited to try this place, due to all the hype. We were very disappointed with our experience here. The service was poor at best. We went for a birthday and the instructions for a champagne toast and a birthday candle in the desert were never relayed from the hostess to our server somehow...Even though the server was aware that it was my guest's Birthday, she did not take it upon herself to have a candle put in the desert. With with each small plate course we were never given plates and I had to ask each time. Our table was not bussed between courses. I did speak to the manager whose response was, " sorry, we were aware of the request but the hostess never told the sever and the server is new."There are too many great places to dine in Buffalo, I will not be returning! read more

My wife and I came here on 8/4 for the standard new restaurant Friday. Here is the breakdown of the hotel Ambiance 5/5 The hotel is beautifully redone, with a very nice bar and ample seating. It was a little loud in the main section due to a friday night, but being seated on huron street was great. Service 1/5 When it takes 2 hours for dinner for a 2 course meal, you don't get drink refills while waiting for said courses, the food runner asks 6 or 7 times if random food he is carrying is yours (he also asked everyone else on the aisle as well), the waiter forgets to cash you out for a good 20 minutes it makes you wonder whats going on behind the scenes. I get it that the restaurant has only been open a few weeks but this is inexcusable for the price. Food 2/5 I split an appetizer of octopus with my wife and ordered the veal parmesean special. My wife ordered the scallops.The octopus was heavily fried and almost impossible to cut, in addition it was incredibly salty and not worth the price (17 for 1 tentacle). My wife's scallops were good, however for 34 dollars 4 scallops and no side this was expensive. My veal had a good flavor but again did not have a side of pasta and was incredibly over priced (50ish). Drinks 3/5 My wife ordered a glass of wine and i had a single beer. Selection was a little limited for both and prices were high. The only reason this gets a 3 is my wife had 10 - 12 oz of wine for the price. read more

Very disappointed. The steak was not hot or warm, it was actually cold like it had come out of a refrigerator. Whenever we asked our waiter a question, he had no idea and had to go and ask the chef. We had to ask if there was a special on the menu. He said yes but doesn't know if there is any left...this was at 6:30! Service was slow. Food expensive for what you received. It took three people 15 minutes to figure out how to give us our bill. The coffee was actually cold too. So I came here for my birthday dinner with a few girlfriends. First, the hotel lobby and entrance is stunning. The decor was gorgeous. The owner has impeccable taste. We made reservations and was seated right away. The table was not sturdy and kept shaking. But other than that the decor inside the restaurant was beautiful. Our waiter was average. He kept forgetting our requests. So now the food. We started with the bread. It's was good. No complaints fresh and hot! The small plate selection did not have tons of options. We had the crispy burrata which was good. I ordered the salmon which was delicious. A friend of mine ordered the scallops and was extremely disappointed with the portion size. Here is what I got......a round of burrata surrounded with undressed arugala and two cherry tomatoes on top of a half teaspoon of a black smear. When I questioned the waiter and the manager about the misrepresentation of the item, I was told that they were working on the menu and yes, the salad was misrepresented. And they walked away. After two previous occasions, which were pleasant but certainly not 5 star, the third time we went we had terrible service, received three credit card charges that were all incorrect instead of one, and had very unpleasant customer service to try and resolve the situation afterward. Recently had our 2nd dinner here after wanting to give the place a 2nd shot. First dinner the food was of good quality but the service and the environment was pretty bad. Not only was it horribly loud but as soon as we finished dinner we were quickly asked if we wanted dessert and we had not even finished when our check was delivered and then we were asked if we could leave the table because people were waiting. I met some friends for lunch and was already unimpressed with the lunch menu I viewed online. I went with the $15 turkey wrap, which didn't include French fries. Nope. $5 extra for soggy cold fries. Made a reservation four months in advance for a special night. We were seated at a table near the host station in a high traffic area. We ordered bottles of wine, appetizers (including a $9 bread basket?!) entrees and sides (because $38 for four scallops does not include anything but the scallops). Our entrees were delivered over two hours later. Multiple parties came and went. We asked to speak to a manager. He was literally hiding in the coat closet. He spoke to the kitchen and never once came back to the table to address us. At the end of the night, they offered to comp our sides and 20% of the bill. Not even close to what should've been offered. Then they offered to email us gift cards on Monday. Why would we ever come back here again? Highly not recommended. read more

The hotel ambiance is beautiful! We had steaks and burgers everything was cooked to perfection . Our waitress Danielle did an excellent job of making drink and dessert selections. I made my reservation for 7:30 on Friday for a group of 8 for my birthday and we didn't get our drink order until 8:00. Our food order wasn't taken until about 8:45 which was really frustrating. Like I said, food was amazing so compliments to the kitchen. When we got our bills, my friend and I were on the same bill and I asked him about the free birthday dinner and he said he could take off the cheaper meal. On the website it says "up to $35". My fiend's meal was $17 and mine was $32 so she got a free meal instead of me so that was a total waste. I've been to chophouse for my dad's birthday before and they are under same ownership so same promotion and they made his dinner free even though his was the most expensive on the bill. Prices are not cheap but portion sizes are. Way too small pasta portions. My friend ordered $34, large plate scallops and she got four scallops with some sauce on her plate ( for real). Tuna was bland with no taste , my husband is lactose intolerance and his pasta was made white sauce even though we were told it's not. When I went to talk to the manager , he brushes me off and said he will take care of us next time and didn't even come to the table to apologize. My husband and I have been wanting to try this restaurant since it opened and finally did last Saturday evening. Hotel Curtiss is beautiful and we have visited the rooftop lounge many times. We arrived at Chez Ami at 7PM and were promptly seated. Although there were many tables available because the restaurant was not at all busy, we were seated at a small table for two in the back corner of what seemed like a banquet room. After walking through such a beautiful place, I was surprised that this room was not very nice. My husband's chair was facing an ugly, unkept serving table with room underneath for what I would image to be bus tray storage beneath and banquet trays on top although it was empty and dirty looking. I asked the waitress to sit in my husband's chair for a moment to see what he saw. She agreed that it was not attractive and offered us the neighboring table in the same room. Still pretty ugly. The very next guests were seated in the same corner where we had previously been sitting. We could hear the new couple making the same comments that we made. Why would this restaurant choose to seat people in this ugly corner when there were so many better seats available? They just didn't seem to care. Our meal with tip and tax was $130. The food was passable but not great. I asked our waitress to suggest a red wine that would go well with the charcuterie tray. Her response was "I don't know". Not, "I'll find out", just "I don't know". As upper level professionals, we have a very large disposable income and eat out at a nice restaurant every weekend and sometimes twice a weekend and travel extensively. I want to be enthusiastic about Chez Ami but they failed to impress on almost every level. What a shame to have made the investment that has been made here only to fail in areas that would be so easy to do well in. read more

My experience was less than ideal for what should have been an excellent meal at a newer local restaurant. I do have to say the revolving bar was nice and the drinks from there were excellent. It was restaurant week so I did not expect amazing since they would be busy, but I did expect to have something great. We went without the expectation that we would order from the special menu this week, and we would possibly eat off the regular menu. We ordered three separate items to start, a bread basket (which surprisingly did not come with our meal, it was a menu addition), the asparagus and the pork belly. With the exception of being very small, they were all delicious. When we placed the orders for our meal, it is understandable that there are no substitutions, so I asked if I could just order what I would like off the restaurant week menu separate. The three options off this menu were priced at about $20, $30, or $40. What I wanted was a cup of the tomato soup that came with the most inexpensive meal choice, and as an entree the scallops which were part of their $40 deal. The server then told us we were unable to purchase the soup by itself, I could only get that if I ordered the $20 restaurant week deal, but what I wanted was the $40 choice, so I gave in and didn't get the soup and got the choice that came with a salad. The salad was absolutely awful. The dressing actually burned our tongues it had so much vinegar. I could not eat any of it, and neither could the others at my table. The entrees then came out with the steak/fries filling up the plate (this was the second $40 option), and my scallops come out with FOUR scallops, a little lettuce for show and a couple VERY tiny apple pieces, about the size of my smallest nail. The rest of the plate was empty. It was extremely disappointing. Overall we bought between the four of us 24 martinis among other off menu items. We were not looking for a cheap meal, just a good one. For the cost it was not worth is, I will not go back. read more

Awful service for Sunday brunch! We had noon reservations for 5 for brunch on December 23, 2018. The restaurant was maybe half full, definitely not packed or busy. We ordered our drinks and food at about 12:15, and at 1:20 we still had not received our food. The waitress never returned to refill waters or to see if we needed more drinks. We inquired with the hostess after waiting more than an hour, and about 10 minutes later half of our food arrived, most of it cold. The food for the two children arrived about 15 minutes later. When we asked to speak to a manager, the shift supervisor came to the table, but the actual manager was no where to be found, so at no point did we ever get to speak to the manager on duty. As an attempt to make amends, a basket of rolls was sent to the table. However, we clearly stated that we had peanut and tree nut allergies at the table, so a basket of rolls containing pecans only created a greater problem. This was my first time visiting Chez Ami, and sadly it will be my last. I would definitely not recommend visiting this restaurant. read more

We made reservations for a party of 9 to celebrate my FIL's 65th birthday. Similar to Chophouse, Chez Ami offers a discount up to 2 people per table for those celebrating their birthday within a week of the night you are dining. We also choose this restaurant to visit the rotating bar. We were disappointed, overall. When we arrived, the rotating bar was not open. We were told by the wait staff that it was closed due to it being a Sunday night and because they did not expect enough patrons to warrant it being open for the evening. This was not included on their site and we expected to have drinks there before dinner. That did not happen. The service was on the slow side, taking into consideration the size of our group. We sat at 6:30 for dinner, our orders were not taken until 7:15, and we finished our meals @ 8:25. Two of the dinners were not correct, 1 had to be returned (this person had to wait an addition 10 minutes for the kitchen to correct their error while the rest of us dined), the other we did not return (steak overcooked) . To top if off, I personally had alerted the wait staff 2 times during our meal, and the hostess 1 time prior to receiving the bill, that we were celebrating my FIL's 65th the day of the dinner, and SIL was celebrating her 40th within the next 6 days. After paying the bill in haste to leave the restaurant, we realized after the transaction had already gone through that the discount for each of their birthday's was not factored into the bill. We did not want to make a deal of it and decided to leave. Overall, the food was decent, the ambiance is nice, but it did not live up to the service and experience that we had expected. We are disappointed and will most likely dine @ Chophouse going forward for events such as these- it's relatively the same price but the service is much better and they do not back track on their promotions/promises. read more

Four of us went to Chez Ami during Restaurant Week. Our reservation was on a Wednesday at 6:30 PM. The restaurant was not crowded. We were greeted & seated promptly. Drinks were ordered (during the evening 2 bottles of wine & 2 glasses of beer approx $90). The drinks arrived & we all opted for the steak pizza after seeing it delivered to the table next to us. This was a Restaurant Week special, served with a 1st course of soup or salad for $20.18. Diner 1 requested no red chilies on her pizza. A bread basket was not included in the special...or any meal. You could order one for $9. The Caesar salad was delicious as were the soups. After the plates were cleared, it took 1-1/2 hrs for our entrees to arrive!!! When the pizzas came, Diner 1's had chilies on it. The waiter apologized; Diner 1 asked that the pizza be taken to the kitchen to remove the chilies. The waiter came back & said a new pizza would be out in 4 minutes! Our entrees took 1-1/2 hrs but this replacement pizza took 4-5 minutes! Pizzas were large, warm and average. Nothing outstanding. We also had 2 desserts with coffee. I had caramel gelato - creamy & delicious. The gelato & Caesar salad were the best parts of my meal. Our total bill was about $280 with tip. Chez Ami needs to address time/food management problems. We also thought the food quality and service did not justify the high prices. read more

A server and a receptionist were arguing because there was not enough help. We had tickets to see a show at the theater and were hoping we would not have a problem. We never saw our server for 20 minutes. We were not told about the specials. We ordered and the the food was good, but we were not served our dinner until probably 615. We had to hurry and eat because the show started at 7. We had to ask another server to please get our check so we could get to the show. We finally had to get up and find the register where they were cashing people out and finish paying right there. We then had to run to catch our chow (we got there with 2 minutes to spare). We had walked by Chez Ami last year and were really looking forward to this date but were gravely disappointed in the lack of professionalism of the wait staff and out overall experience. read more
