Phenomenal lobster roll at Chez Daniel is beyond scrumptious!!!!!

Phenomenal food from A-Z...Daniel's food is always dependable and creative with original specials daily. We love everything and even ate there twice today (!) for lunch and dinner. His Niçoise salad is the best in the world, with real grilled tuna, not canned, and the pear, avocado, beet, slivered almond and greens is so refreshing and absolutely delicious. We went back for dinner for his lobster roll, by far THE best we have ever had on the east coast...even better than Cape Cod and Maine's interpretation!!! On a toasted, buttered brioche bun, Chef adds a few home grown herbs, and a slice of our famous Jersey tomato...it is just scrumptious to the max...so much so that I have convinced 2 other couples to join us for dinner next week. If you have not been, go go go!!! Daniel is by far the most talented young chef we have come upon in years, Philly included!

Daniel is the most talented chef. This is my second time coming this week and I've been overly satisfied both times. The food is perfectly crafted, delicious, and comes out beautifully. I would recommend to everyone close to frenchtown to try. I would warn that because everything is made in fresh in the kitchen that you should expect a bjt of a wait but so so so worth it

I have only ever heard great things about Chez Daniel and now I can finally confirm they are all 100% true. They have lots of space inside and a cute, covered front porch style seating area outside. We were able to sit comfortably with our pup, and they even brought him out a water bowl and stepped over and around him when he refused to get up. My lazy dog thanks you! We started with the crab cake appetizer and absolutely loved it! It was prepared in a way I really had never had before. Less creamy and instead in a tomato sauce with okra and a little bit of bread crumb crunch. They had a few ways to get the crab cake (app, in a sandwich, as your entree, etc) and I definitely recommend you try at least one of them. I got the grilled veggie sandwich and swapped the bleu cheese for swiss. So good! Delicious bread, loaded with a meaty portobello mushroom, spinach and red peppers, all with a balsamic glaze. Just a great sandwich with perfectly crispy fries on the side. Make the trip!

I feel I must review it how we go because it's always just as great as the first time. Love a place that is consistent love a place that is passionate about their food. On this visit, we opened up with making a slight change to the muscle appetizer and swap out for scallops instead with the creole sauce and boy it was just as great as having it with muscles thank you to chef Daniel for accommodating our request. For our entrées this evening, my wife had Chimichurri flat iron steak cooked medium raw, it was perfect. And I had the crabcake entrée which again was absolutely perfect. The sauce that he made was such a great accent to the freshness of the crab. Again, always a wonderful time Rose is a superstar and Daniel he is the main attraction.

Always a solid spot to relax and have lunch. Not a huge menu but has all the right stuff. I like the Croque Monsieur, almost order that every time. Wait staff is friendly and I never feel rushed here.

    Braised short ribs

Braised short ribs were delicious. Also really enjoyed the potato pancakes app. Great food and nice atmosphere. Loved sitting on the outdoor patio.

    Crab cake entree

Loved everything about our dinner this evening at Chez Daniel. It was a beautiful evening for outdoor dining on the porch. We shared the baked Brie appetizer and then I had the pear salad while my husband had the Caesar salad which were all perfectly prepared. My husband had the mussels for his dinner and I had the crab cake entree. Best I have ever had. What a gem of a restaurant in our little River town. Highly recommend!

I'm not entirely sure how to pronounce the name of this place, but I can tell you it's pretty good regardless. I came here with two of my OG chums this past Saturday for an early dinner (a little before 5 I think), on a deceptively nippy night. We made a very last-minute reservation (as in we were down the street walking over when we did it) but were easily able to secure seating. The restaurant was pretty bustling throughout our meal so if you have the ability to make a reservation more than two minutes beforehand, I would do it. This is a popular one right now. I've driven by this building countless times but I think this is the first time I've been inside it (it's relatively new so it's possible I was in whatever business was here before years ago). It has a pleasant interior; kind of rustic but also some obvious homages to France on the walls, etc. - what else would you expect in a town literally called Frenchtown? We split the brie en croute app, which I liked a lot. My only quibble is that I would have made the berry coulis denser to compete with the brie a bit better, but overall it was a refreshing way to start the meal. I didn't build up quite the appetite I was hoping for from metal detecting in the afternoon (which is one of the many negative consequences of a drought), so I went a little lighter than usual on the entree with the almond-crusted cod. It was tasty but presentation-wise? Eh. It's not really a fish you can "crust," if that makes sense, so the optics are a bit chaotic. It's more like a pile on your plate, which you can see in the attached photo. I did like the fact that the lemon sauce was on the subtle side - the citrus family is not one of my faves and it's often an accompaniment with seafood dishes, so I was pleased it wasn't the dominant flavor. Super flaky and loved the texture of the rice. The service was excellent. Not only did we not have to wait particularly long for our items to arrive, but our waiter was very friendly and nice. I was accidentally under-dressed for the weather so I ordered a hot chamomile tea (very rare for me), and one of my chums also asked the waiter to pick a tea for her. I have a chum who used to work in the service industry who told me to never order hot tea from a restaurant because it's incredibly annoying for them to prep, but my argument would be that if it's on the menu, all bets are off. Regardless, I think in this day and age it's relatively easy to make - we watched the guy literally just use a hot water dispenser and put the tea bag in. Was definitely the right choice on this particular evening. Anyway. He was also knowledgeable about the menu and had specific opinions about certain dishes; one of my friends ordered the salmon entree and he immediately commented that it was his favorite. We're always interested as born and bred creatures of the Kingdom of Hunterdon what the overall clientele in a restaurant looks like. In a tourist trap like Frenchtown, it's not unusual to go into an eatery that's full of out-of-towners squealing about the Delaware River or something. This was a very nice mix of both tourists and locals, which can definitely be a difficult balancing act. Given the bougie options on the menu, I thought this was priced competitively to allow for some of the nearby residents who might not be sporting boat shoes and polo shirts to wander in to sample the wares as well. Wasn't blown away but overall this was very solid.

The issue is that the sandwiches sound delicious on the menu but the reality doesn't live up to my expectations. My husband order some spicy Mexican inspired fried catfish sandwich for himself and a fried scallop sandwich for me. The sandwiches presented well but both lacked flavor, salt & seasoning in general. Even the soups; one was supposed to be red lentils but looked mostly yellow lentil and again desperately needed salt for one and would have been improved with additional seasonings. Whoever made the manhattan clam chowder got the recipe correct. It was the only thing that was tasty without needing alteration. The owner is nice and after my first poor review offered to make me a replacement but I didn't take him up on the offer. If they only get it right while someone is watching over their shoulder, what's the point. It is NOT a cheap lunch so to be disappointed is a real bummer. Better to stick with the raw seafood items or some prepackaged items (hummus & great flatbreads).

No tables or seats available at the bar with several parties waiting patiently. We were warmly greeted by the manager as he told us it would be at least 45--60 minutes for a four top. My bride noticed a single chair open on the far side of the bar so we made our way through the friendly crowd. The vibe here is causal with a very friendly neighborhood feel. We eventually made it over to the open seat as patrons on both sides skooted over to make room for us. The bartenders were getting slammed but they promptly acknowledged us and took our order shortly after. My martini was served in a well chilled glass with olives and my bride's chardonnay was perfect temperature. Soon after getting our drinks, as our friends arrived, two more seats at the bar opened up, so they took them and order their drinks. A short while later a couple of octogenarians entered the packed bar area, so we gave them our seats. At this point, we ordered another round and patiently waited for a table to open up. The manager stopped by a few times with estimated updates. He did a great job of keeping us advised and about an hour later we were seated. We ordered fried calamari and oyster appetizers. Our friends had mussels marinara, my bride has Caesar's salad and calamari and I had the soft shell crabs. We shared a bottle of Albarino (Great value). The food arrived in a nice relaxed pace as the waiting patrons were all seated at this point. As usual, the food was all on the mark. Nice tentacles with the calamari, perfecting flash fried. My oysters were cold, briney and firm. The mussel portion was very generous and the marinara had just the right medium zip. My sauteed soft shell crabs were perfectly cooked and served with tasty garlic enhanced spinach. We enjoyed our conversations and didnt notice we were the last patrons in the place. Regardless, there was no rush. I had some expresso before heading out. This place has been very consistent, even when packed. We will definitely return. Just a reminder. Server was not around when we wanted the check so we had to wait. The kids meal was so large and my nephew loved it. The Broiler Oysters and Lobster Roll were very good! All the other food was fine except for the Filet Mignon - it was ordered medium well and it came out more well done and was dry. Glad I added the Crab Imperial Topping because that was tasty. The New England Clam Chowder is different to those I'm use to having so it was a surprise and we didn't really like it. The broth is thin and not as flavorful as I'm use to but they did say it was in a "light broth" on the menu. I'm also not use to the clams being still in their shell, all the ones I've tried have been shucked and often times chopped. The drinks were ok but nothing wowed us, probably wouldn't recommend them. All in all it was decent and glad we tried it even if we didn't enjoy everything because it might be personal taste. I think mostly the seafood items are done well and that makes sense due to part of the name of the place being "Fish Market".
