Great first impression. Samosa was fresh and delicious. Garlic and regular naan was freshly baked and tasty. My bowl of Chicken Tika Masala was excellent. It came with a large heaping scoop of sauce, which is always appreciated as I love to soak up the sauce with the naan. It was extra spicy as we ordered and the flavors were exquisite. It came with a delicious helping of rice as well. This was definitely some of the best Indian I've had in North Carolina since moving here 6 months ago. The worst Indian food I've ever been served. Wasn't able to eat more than a few bites before started feeling nausous. People I am NOT a picky eater. Onion bhaji was undercooked (raw batter in the larger pieces) and the samosa chaat had one sad potato samosa drowned in a bowl of flavorless chickpea soup with a bit of yogurt. For nine dollars I expected three or four four crispy samosas sitting on some lovely spicy chickpeas. The only edible food in my 30.00 meal was the single 5.00 garlic Naan (quartered to make it look like more) and the small cup of masalai chai. The young man serving the finished orders was kind and pleasant, but good service can't make up for the awefulness of the food. Will NEVER go back. read more

I lived in India for several years and learned to really love the food! So thrilled to have Indian food 20 minutes from my house. I've been there several times and eaten something different each time -- loved it all. They just added an expanded menu with a wide variety. I immediately tried the eggplant - Baingan Bharta and it was absolutely delicious. They offer vegan, vegetarian and gluten free dishes, so there is something for everyone. I would definitely drive over to Chhote's Garner from Cary or Morrisville... If I didn't already live in Garner. This restaurant is in a busy area but is like a hidden gem on the street where it counts, which is why I hope you are reading this and love to explore the area finding great people and amazing Indian Street Food. The chef, Ramesh Dahal, is on it. And you can look right into the kitchen to see that. His attention to detail is amazing to witness, and it's pretty cool that you can also see how he has put tremendous energy into making sure the food is just right. (Rest assured, the energy is just as amazing in all of the prep stages as it is in the finishing touches.) He's in a great space for someone who likes to greet the customers and to feel connected to the dining room, where people are quick to say they hope Chhote's becomes a permanent home for Indian food in Garner. I've met some new people these last few weeks and enjoyed going there for the kind of people who also enjoy my favorite spices. He listens to the regulars and changes the daily specials based on things they enjoy and request. I was in there on a day when a woman returned to find her favorite dish, a paneer with veg medley, on the chalkboard. She was so happy. Maybe I'll ask for something special next time. My favorite things are all the veggie dishes since that is my lifestyle, and which really means there is more for me at an Indian restaurant. I go there quite a bit and get the chana masala, the onion baji, and either a veggie medley or the spring masala dosa. My absolute favorite is the baingan bharta, which is to my spicy preference at HOT and is simply the most satisfying meal I enjoy most weeks. The decor on the inside is a work in progress and nobody's favorite, but the place has a lot of potentials if you're already a fan of their food. I just received an order of the paneer tikka masala, and I am very disappointed, especially since I spent $25 on DD for the dish with plain naan added. I have eaten at Chhote's NUMEROUS times, and each time it has been very good (that's why I'm giving this at least 2 stars). The order today was VERY watered down, to the point that there was straight LIQUID on my plate after eating some of it. It was not as flavorful as usual and the viscosity was very off. Even though the Chicken was juicy and Garlic cooked and seasoned perfectly, the gravy in the dish was not flavorful. It lacked body and flavor. My wife and I are very excited to have Southeast Asian cuisine in Garner. We stopped by today after catching a movie at the Regal. I had huge expectations about this place. Had a chicken dish and a chaat dish with rice. It was the worst food that I've had in a long time. I even had to throw out the chicken gravy because it was so bland. Indian food is all about flavors and this had none. Also, a lot of places give extra rice for free, but this place doesn't.
