Wow. What a crapshoot this place has gone to. First of all, when we were seated the staff didn't greet anyone and just started trying to get our orders from us as we barely sat down. The food cooking and service was mediocre my steak and salmon was over cooked. Also, it's took 15 minutes for my soda and our server forgot about the chili oil and our hibachi chef had to go and get it himself. To add insult to injury, the nerve of these people, they made us move to another room so we can have dessert and they can maximize their own greedy profits and seat the other people waiting for hibachi. That whole entire meal was rushed, right after the hibachi chef finished our meal, they were already giving us to-go boxes and containers. What kind of weird back room practices is that? That is plain greed, why move people who are at the end of their meal anyway? Then they have the nerve to charge 20% gratuity to the meal mandatory. That was not 20% service by a long shot. Their lack of customer service along with any type of want for their customers to have a good time at their restaurant has been lost. This isn't the old Chi Tung that we all used to know and love. I highly suggest patronizing another business that is more deserving of your money. read more

I had lunch with my sister at Chi Tung, it's been years since I've been there. It seems that they knocked down the old restaurant and rebuilt a new one in almost the same spot. It just didn't have the feel of the old one. I later found out that the restaurant change hands and it reflected in the food. I ordered one of their lunch specials szechuan beef with chicken fried rice, hot & sour soup, and an egg roll. The beef was a little chewy but still acceptable and the chicken fried rice was dark not white rice like usual. My sweet & sour soup had very little taste, I had to add a little soy sauce to give it more flavor. The egg roll was OK. My sister ordered the teriyaki chicken with rice, egg drop soup, and an egg roll. I tried her chicken and it was rubbery, not firm at all, the egg drop soup was flavorless, she sent it back and got the miso soup it looked very rich but it was a disappointment she had to add soy sauce. The only good thing was the waitstaff. We started off with a waitress but then she came back and told us that we were not in her station so she brought over a waiter who was very nice and attentive. I asked for a container for my leftovers instead of handing me a takeout container he took my plate and packed it for me, I thought it was a nice touch. I probably won't go back but I will try a new Chinese restaurant in the area. read more

We ordered carry out. The worst! The Pad See Ew was just that ...Ewwww!!! I mean it was bad. I think they made it with motor oil, sugar, and tons of salt. Also the spring rolls basically melted because they packed them right next to the steaming hot food. Stay healthy. Find a different restaurant! read more

I am VERY disheartened to leave this review for several reasons. My family has been patronizing this restaurant for 25+ years, when they started out at the CVS pharmacy store next door before expanding to where they are now. Service, food, restaurant atmosphere back in the day was really good. You used to have to sign up for the waitlist due to popularity and heightened publicity. My sister wanted to go here for her birthday so we visited on the evening of 9/2/22. I expected for us to get on a waitlist but was surprised for a Friday night to be seated right away. We were seated at a booth by the kitchen doors where the take out orders are placed and the buffet used to be. We were greeted by Tara who was probably one of the few highlights to our evening. Extremely kind, attentive & caring. We ordered drinks, my sister got the Mai Tai & I got the Midori colada which I've gotten for years - it's not on the menu but the long standing bartender will fix it if requested. The Mai Tai had to be sent back, it tasted like fingernail polish, it was horrible. We ordered appetizers of sushi, crab ragoon, egg drop soup and dragon maki and our main entrees were shrimp w/lobster sauce & pineapple curry w/shrimp. The food was okay but we could tell it's not as good as it used to be. The pineapple curry was too thick, like an overabundance of corn starch was added to it. I'm used to a thin consistency so I really didn't enjoy it. When we finished our meals, I put in a to go order. The table was cleared. As we were waiting for the order to be completed, we noticed some commotion by the kitchen doors. We were alarmed to see 2 male employees, one in a lime green shirt and the other in a sky blue shirt FIST FIGHTING out in the open! Female staff were screaming, talking in Chinese and one actually got in between them to stop them but they kept on fighting. Customers in the lobby saw what was going on and as they were being seated, were in total dismay, talking about it. We didn't feel safe at this point but couldn't leave because we hadn't gotten the take out order or our bill. A few minutes later, the POLICE appeared to talk to the parties involved. The guy in the green shirt lied to the male police officer telling him they weren't fighting when the police reminded him that they got a call about a fight in the establishment. After the police left, I was shocked that both staff members were allowed to stay there like nothing happened. The take out order & bill was ready. My sister asked Tara for one of their signature shopping bags due to the 3 large bags of food we had. Tara told her it would be $1 for the bag. I told Tara that with my bill being $104, and it being her b-day, she should not have to pay but my sister gave $1. Tara went to the manager, came back saying due to low quantity, my sister could NOT get a bag. My sister asked for a manager. Tara went to get a manager and the manager didn't come - Tara came back to say that she wouldn't be able to give a bag. I told her "the manager won't come talk to us"? & I instructed her to bring the manager to us. When the assistant manager came, she immediately said that due to "exports", there is a low quantity of bags and they couldn't be given out. I put the check up to her to see & said "With tip, I'm spending $120, it's my sister's birthday, we witnessed a fist fight with your employees & you are not willing to supply her with a bag"? The assistant manager wouldn't back down nor apologize. I explained that I would be doing a review to share this nonsense. It was at this point that the manager came over and backed up the assistant manager. They left the table and we prepared to leave. I got the names of both managers and wrote it on the receipt I took with me. We left vowing never to return. Surprisingly, Tara came outside to where we were to tell me that I had the merchant copy of the receipt that I needed to return. I gave it to her which unfortunately had the managers names on it. Tara kept apologizing because she was the only one that felt bad about what happened. She asked us to please come again and that she would be looking for us. We felt unappreciated & discriminated like, how much $ do we have to spend just to pay $1 to get a bag? Many recent reviews that I'm seeing expresses that there is new management with problematic customer service so I see it's not just us that dealt with this. 2021 reviews also state the manager's name is Peggy but not sure if that is who I deal with. Parking lot isn't full like it used to be or the amount of people and I now see why. Things have definitely changed. Because there was an assault, I will be sharing this same review the Better Business Bureau. You can't have a successful and professional eating establishment for customers with staff fighting with each other. Although our family has supported this business for decades, I am upset to sad to say that this is the bitter & disgusting end. read more

The food is better than most. We ordered the Appetizer Delight for three, the Beef with Fresh Mushrooms, the YuShen Pork and the Chi Tung Pad Thai. It really was quite tasty. The service was super sweet. But they sat us in a particularly dark booth. We had to use our phone flashlights to read the menu and the fortunes in our cookies. ok so the food was great! The waitress was great BUT!!! What makes the whole experience go down hill is the manager (a short Asian woman) and the front desk girl (a taller asian girl with glasses with a horrible attitude that she should be fired !) that had a problem! I took my mom AND dad out for their birthday on 4/30/2025. We celebrated and spent well over $300 including gratuity and even gave extra cash tips to the cook personally. The waitress tells both my mom and dad that for their birthday they both get a birthday $10 gift card each for their birthday they just have to show their id at the front upon leaving! She said nothing about the days in April! So not knowing anything about it I was excited for both of them seeing that it was their first time ever at a hibachi anything let alone Chi Tung! I normally go to Wu's house which after this will keep my business And I will advise all of my family, friends, and even YOU reading this to do the same! We get to the desk and a nice man behind the counter pulls out two gift cards and stamp them as he jokingly said "two birthdays huh?" .He then ask the taller Asian girl to verify and she stamps them then she asked them for their ids which the server said they would so my parents happily pulled out their ids! One for 4/13 and the other 4/29 due to our schedules 4/30 was the perfect day that we could meet and celebrate together as a family. So I took them both out along with my sister and brother. they each got a birthday ice cream Sunday with candles and we sang happy birthday to them both! The cook acknowledged both of their birthdays by giving them slightly bigger portions As well. Now here comes the foolery. We have our ice cream then we proceed to where I left off above. After the nice man stamped the certificates the younger girl proceeded to say she will only give one because my dad's birthday doesn't count. There is no sign about the gift cards anywhere and who is she to tell ppl when they can celebrate their birtbday. Furthermore the gift card is for CHI TUNG SO THEY WOULD GET THE BUSINESS BACK PLUS MORE IF WE WERE TO COME BACK WITH IT! Like duh! So it wasn't about the gift card but the way she tried to play my dad like his birthday wasn't important enough to receive his own gift card pissed me off! She argued with me as I told her both their birthdays are in APRIL! she proceeds to tell me I can talk to her manager which I agreed! Had I known the manager would be dumber than her employee I wouldn't have waited the extra time to talk to her. She comes out saying it was two weeks ago even though my receipt that I had to show with the ids clearly has two birthdays on it which was shown again. I tell her the situation and ask if we can have this talk with my waitress who sent us to get the gift cardS. She tried to walk ahead of me to go talk to the waitress before I got there and I told her don't yell at her for doing her job! She did nothing wrong! After I told her I will be writing a review about it on yelp she politely said she would give them both to me but I didn't even want them at that point. The fact that someone has to say "yelp review" for you to treat them right and fairly is enough to say this isn't the place to go. As I'm walking out the door she tries to give them to my mom who no longer wanted hers seeing how my dad had been treated for his birtbday. Again these were gift cards to THEIR restaurant and it was our first time but definitely will be our last and I would not recommend based on how the management team feel they can treat people and yell at their employees for being nice and offering what they felt their job gave out. I can see if his bday was in March or if we were in May and the birthdays were in April but we are in April and both birthdays were different days in April but one birthday gets celebrated with one gift card. The other birthday just gets nothin! Had I just brought my dad alone he would have received it and if I brought my mom alone she too would've received it! so why do this with both of them and they both clearly were born different day. It left a nasty taste in my mouth after a lovely experience. It wasn't about the gift card at that point after I saw how they treated me, my parents, and their staff! This review had to be written! Please Go to WU'S HOUSE ON 95th which is right around the corner from this place! They may not give gift cards but you certainly won't feel unvalued or unappreciated upon leaving that's for sure! We were at the restaurant and was given a child's portion tonight. We complained to our cook and management only to be told they have changed their serving portion regardless the noodles , rice and vegetable. They charged us full price, but they restricted or reduced their servings on the items I just mentioned! Needless to say, we are very disappointed. We've been coming to this restaurant for years and the service was awful. The manager tried to talk to us as if we were children and telling ua, it's the owners who has made these changes. We should've been told that the portions were reduced and changed so then that way we can make an informal decision if you want to get those items. needless to say we won't be back.! read more

We ordered takeout from Chi Tung for dinner tonight. It's a place in the area that we've been wanting to try but hadn't had a chance to get around to. We ordered the shrimp tempura appetizer, seaweed salad, spicy salmon maki roll, spicy tuna maki roll, I got the hibachi steak with chicken fried rice, and my husband got the hibachi chicken with chicken fried rice. My favorite was the spicy tuna maki roll and the seaweed salad. However, I've had better steak, it just tasted cheap / not the best quality of meat. All in all, it was still a good dinner, and our food was ready pretty quickly. I ordered from their website and got a text notification to say my food was ready for pickup. read more

Placed an order to go, the lady over the phone said she will give extra sauce for this order, I only asked for 1 extra sauce. When I arrived to pick up my order I noticed that the 1 extra sauce was not in the bag. When I questioned the lady about the 1 sauce packet she started yelling at me stating the I would have to pay 10 cents more if I wanted sauce. I told her she said it was ok over the phone when I placed the order, now that I paid you want to charge me more. I have never had this experience before, and I did not deserve to be disrespected. How the mighty have fallen. Got delivery tonight and nothing...I mean nothing tasted like Chi Tung. Fried Rice no flavor. Chicken Pad Thai not even sure what that was supposed to be. Crab Rangoons were fried won tons...no crab. Went to Chi Tung the first time the morning after my bachelor party in 1989 and became a huge fan. This is not Chi Tung. Too funny that the Manager's takeaway from this review is to 1) question the truth and accuracy of how long I have been a patron; and, 2) to explain to me that crab Rangoon is made with imitation crab. This underscores your limited understanding of how fast you have slipped from excellence to mediocrity to inferiority. A first grader could, under minimal oversight, make crab rangoons. Yours would be beat by them. Every response to a bad review that I have read has been something akin to 'oh yeah well we are rubber and you are glue'. Hah!! Take the review as it is intended. Totally disappointed! Got home to find my order totally messed up. Ordered Beef Chop Suey but got beef fried rice instead. I spent $70 and already had a large order of Shrimp fried Rice. I asked 3 times for hot mustard to be put in the bag only to get none. I had to go to a second restaurant to get chop suey for my family because I do not live close to Chai Tung. I guess I should know better than to not check my order before leaving. Is it too much to ask for a competent person to fill your order? I should have known better, the man ahead of me was asking for a refund on his order because his food was cold. Needless to say, I will not be going back to this establishment. read more

I am sad because this was a favorite spot of mine for years. We went on Thursday afternoon and only ordered the jumbo shrimp fried rice extra bean sprouts and green onion. Also ordered egg rolls. We asked that everything be brought out at same time. The egg rolls were perfectly hot and tasty. The fried rice was horrible bland and cold. We shouldn't have to ask you to reheat it. I also didn't recall that there aren't any refills on soda. What restaurant does that? Soda is not expensive; why not provide free refills? Ok I digress, Back to the meal, disappointed.
