Came here for a birthday dinner a few days ago and loved everything. The decor is a little dated inside, but the food was awesome and service was good. We had calamari, linguine with white clam sauce, and the penne w vodka sauce (I opted for grilled chicken w the penne). The clam sauce had a hint of spice and the vodka sauce was incredibly creamy. They were both delicious, and good sized portions. The calamari was light and came with a delicious marinara dipping sauce. The house salad that comes with the pastas is also pretty good. Went her for a girls night dinner. We were seated in the bar area which we had no issue with since it was nice and spacious. Service: The one bartender they had on staff for a full bar was also serving the 5 other tables in the area. She was visibly overwhelmed which we could understand however she was yelling at the staff and causing a loud scene the entire 2.5 hours it took us to get our meals. Yes- it took that long to get three pasta and meat sauce meals! Food: Each one of us got different pastas with meat sauce however mine tasted like a different meat sauce. The meat tasted burnt and the actual sauce tasted like it was old and sour. This felt like an experience with a brand new restaurant, not one that is a Baltimore staple and has been open for decades!! read more

I have been to this location and ordered delivery multiple times here. This is an exceptional Italian establishment. The times I have dined in the restaurant has included great service from knowledgeable staff. The pasta is authenic and homemade. My review is also based on a recent delivery order. We ordered for a large group of 8 people. The delivery driver (from a third party) only grabbed the dinner roll bag and left our entrees at the restaurant. This was not the the restaurants fault at all. They were not obligated to take any action. They went above and beyond to bring our entrees to our home across the city along with some bonus desserts. On top of that they refunded our money, and asked us to visit their location and give them another chance. We gladly revisited this location multiple times. Started with mussels calamari and mozzarella sticks. Calamari were perfect, hubby loved it. Everything hot and delicious. Salads were amazing. Want to know the dressing. Two of us got the veal parmigiana. Perfectly crispy. Great sauce. I got gluten free vodka penne. Amazing. Esp for gluten free. Went here for happy hour on Saturday and was so excited since it was a weekend happy hour! The wine was just okay, but at happy hour prices, who am I to complain? The antipasto platter was good, except for the olives, they were SO salty! And as someone who loves putting extra salt on everything, that's saying a lot- they tasted like a mouth of salt water. We also ordered the meatballs which were okay, but nothing to write home about (although their presentation was beautiful and I was super excited to eat them). I made a reservation four weeks before Valentine's Day at Chiapparelli's in an effort to avoid issues on what's supposed to be a fun night. When my girlfriend and I arrived at the restaurant at 8:30, the time of our reservation. After squeezing through an over packed waiting area we finally found the "hostess" who was an unapologetic old women who told us our reservation didn't mean anything. She was carrying around loose sheets of paper while frantically writing down and calling names, there was no system at all in place to manage the crowd. When I tried to explain that I had called many weeks in advance, she responded with "so did everyone, everyone called and made a reservation but they are not valid anymore". The restaurant doesn't have any excuses for this pathetic excuse of management. It should be no surprise that Valentine's Day is going to be busy and being a place that prides themselves on there history you would think they could learn how to handle a busy night and not devolve into chaos at the expense of people who have tried to plan ahead. My girlfriend and I had to leave and eat dinner at home because the expected wait was over an hour and all other restaurants in the area were packed. This was our first time a Chiaparelli's -I took my wife there for her birthday. She is a big fan of Italian cuisine and really liked it. I had the Spaghetti Toscanini - it was chock full of goodies and the sauce was delicious - just enough of the homemade pasta to give it some body. My wife had the Chicken Louie and raved about it. We will definitely go back. The only thing that prevents a five star review is that the service seemed a bit sluggish, particularly toward the end. read more

ADVICE: don't even try to eat the whole thing you won't be able to even fit the pasta. *BESTO PESTO: got it with whole wheat pasta and chicken. The pesto was decent, but not enough of it, and the chicken was stiff. On top of it there was so much that after 30 of working on my plate, it still looked like I hadn't touched it. *GNOCCHI: once again, there was SO MUCH OF IT. It mountained over the dish. The sauce was creamy and an absolute comfort, but once again I felt there was too little of it compared to the amount of gnocchi. *GRANDMA'S RAVIOLI: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The cheese filling was soft and the tomato sauce was slightly spicy, which balanced well. Was the best of all three. WINE: *We got a Carafe of Chardonnay to split for $32. In short, racism against Asians. So my friend and I was hungry and walking down the road to find a place to eat, saw this restaurant and decided to give it a try because it had lots of open tables and basically all other restaurants in that area were packed. The hostess was chatting with 2 friends of hers, I believe 1 of them was a waitress and another guy I don't know. She saw us but decided to ignore us and continue chatting with her friends, so I just went up to her and said table for 2. Now what was really funny here was that she didn't even seat us, she just said that you guys can seat in the lounge area, and we said that's fine, so we just went there and seated OURSELVES while watching other guests being seated. And she didn't even give us a menu, we were just sitting there staring at each other, finally, after some awkward waiting, a waitress FOUND us and gave us the menu, again, didn't even get the drink menu lol. The story continues, the entire time we were there, our waiter never checked on us, what's more interesting is that there were only 2 tables with guests in that room, he was constantly checking the other table where a bunch of "white Americans" were eating. No one asked us if we were doing good and no one refilled our water. I still gave him 20 percent of the tips because at least he boxed my dinner for me lol. How do I know this is something against Asians? Because we were the only Asians in that restaurant as far as I could tell and we were being treated like second class citizens compared to other customers. But anyway, I won't go there again because I don't want to be discriminated and I wouldn't recommend anyone going to this restaurant if they are not white. The place was very nice. The manager set us up with a nice table upstairs in a semi-private room. He was very accomidating to our night as well. The food was EXCELLENT! However, there were a few things that could have been a little better. So we got a table for 17, but only had seating for 15; they brought an extra table in quickly, no problem. I had called to set up the menu earlier in the week. We went with the family style option D. On their family menu it says you can sub pasta for pasta, chicken for chicken, etc. So we subbed gnocchi bolognese for lasagna and veal leo for veal marsala. Also on the menu was chicken parm and vodka penne. We added Arincini Rice Balls as well for $3 per person. Total should have been $32 per person. I feel like we were charged for coffee and tea, which was supposed to be included, but it was my bachelor party, so I was not allowed to see the check. But from the total number, I think we were over-charged a little bit. Not a big worry because I'm sure it was somewhat close, still don't want to agree on a price and get hit for more. I honestly think it was just a lack of communication between staff and management. There was another lack of communication on what we were supposed to have food-wise. First, we had a person with a gluten allergy, he was told the breading was gluten-free. Apparently not, he was not doing well after his fish dinner (someone should have known what type of breading was on the fish). Main meal: The rice balls and salads came out, both were delicious. Then came our veal leo and gnocchi bolognese, again; delicious. The waiter then let some time go and asked if there was anything else he could get us...I said, "I thought we had vodka penne and chicken parm?" He said, "oh sure I can go get some"...confused us a little, but he did bring some out. I just wish it had been out in the beginning with the rest, as we were all pretty full at that point. All of the Food was delicious though, just wish the communication was better. I would probably come back here again; but only if I was running the party...if I wasn't I would definitely make sure everything was set up and known ahead of time. Food-wise was a 5 of 5. Great spot in little Italy! Chiapparellis has one of the best house salads around. Their house Italian dressing is amazing and honestly you could make a meal out of it. Every entree comes with a salad. For a $2 up charge I was able to get meat and cheese added to the salad. Well worth it in my opinion. For the main course I got the spinach and cheese ravioli. Wow! The homemade ravioli was cooked perfectly and the sauce was also fantastic. The cheese inside the ravioli was a bit salty, but that's how I like it. I want to say you got about 5 or 6 large raviolis for 18 bucks. With the salad, it is more than enough food. Our waitress, Denise was phenomenal and was able to put up with my group. She offered suggestions and was an all around great server. Would absolutely recommend this place to anyone in the little Italy area! read more

I had expected more, especially reading through some of the reviews. Having been to Little Italy in San Francisco, New York and several times in Baltimore I had expected better. I found the bread had been exposed either to the air or heat long enough that it was starting to turn hard along the torn edge. I hate to use the term stale but I think that might be the most accurate. The "famous" salad has been previously compared to the salad at the Olive Garden and I think that is a reasonable comparison. It was fairly good, but pretty soggy. The Imperial Crab stuffed mushrooms had an excellent recipe, but finding it cold in the center in one and barely warm in the center for most was not something I wanted to pay that much money for. If only they could have thoroughly cooked them they would have been the best part of the meal by far. Instead they were the best part of the meal, but not by much. I got the seafood ravioli and it was alright. There was four of them and they seemed to be of reasonable size. The content of the ravioli and even the ravioli pasta seemed well done. The sauce reminded me of the canned tomato soup I got as a kid that was made with condensed milk. Again I thought the dish came out colder then it should have been. So it wasn't bad. I have had better food in Baltimores' Little Italy and I may go back at some point to try a different dish. I suspect it won't be my first choice however. read more

We had dinner here on Friday night and some parts were awesome and others needed significant improvement. Penne vodka was excellent and would definitely get that again. The spinach and cheese ravioli was horrible. It tasted so bland and had no flavor. We also got the tartufo and it was delicious! The service was slow and no one asked about how the food was. In fact the server just put the wine bottle down on the table and didn't even pour the first glasses for everyone. The part I always look forward to is the salad they give when you get an entree. I've had this salad in the past and it was so good. However, this time it tasted like the salad had been sitting out for hours and was warm and mushy. Since I've been here before and had better experiences I'll give them another chance and hope the service and food is better than this past time. read more

Ordered from Chiapparelli's for the first time and was beyond impressed with the portions, packaging, and flavors of each dish! We ordered the lasagna with meat sauce, chicken parmesan, and a side of garlic bread. I only wished there was more sauce with both dishes, but I feel this is typical of most Italian restaurants with carry out. Much to our surprise, both entrees came with a salad (which was huge and wonderfully dressed, delicious!) We will most definitely be ordering from Chiapparelli's again, wonderful food and flavors! read more

I am very upset with my order today I bought two subs and they were very bad. The bread was stale abd there was nothing on them for 9 dollar subs. I worked for bud yrs ago and they never made subs like this . I'm calling there tomorrow Thursday 3 rd Dec and find out what happen. They did not look like the subs I bought there six months ago. Something is not right I couldn't eat them and my wife said her sub was dated out no sauce on it . I'm very upset and want my money back but thats not going to happen im sure. Great Food, Horrendous Service! Four of us had dinner here on Saturday night. It was my second time there. The food was excellent, as it was the first time. But the service was so bad. They blamed it on a party of 35 showing up that nobody at the restaurant knew about (the party had made a reservation, but nobody at the restaurant wrote it down!). As a result, they were very understaffed. Ready to leave after nearly 3 hours there, I asked our waitress for the check. She then engaged in a 10 minute conversation with the people at the next table before bringing us the check! Tonight we had the penne in a vodka sauce with shrimp and the sampler plate of chicken parm, fettuccini Alfredo and lasagna. Again with a huge salad. Great restaurant with plenty of character and excellent food. I'm a New York/New Jersey guy and you know we have our Italian restaurants we think are better than everyone else's. Every once in a while, a place comes along that surprises me. Simply said, the food at Chiapparelli's is great. We had their signature house salad, mussels salad, lasagna, shrimp nicola, linguini w/ clams and pescatore. All entreed came to the table hot and were nicely seasoned. Considering how many plates they were moving, I found that impressive. Making our party of four meal great was excellent service. We were there in the height of dinner (730) on a Saturday night and the folks attending our table couldn't have been nicer. The lady running this operation is amazing. She was juggling the phones, dealing with walk-ins and keeping everything in line. All while keeping a lovely smile on her face and bantering with folks waiting for their tables. This is restauranting from days gone by -it's an art- and if you're in Baltimore, I recommend Chiapparelli's for great Italian. read more

I'd really like to give 3 1/2 stars. The ambiance was nice. We went on a Tuesday night, and I was surprised at how crowded it was. We ordered the rice balls (Arancine on the menu) for an appetizer. Those were very good. There were 4 of them and they were golf-ball sized, which was perfect because they weren't too filling. The waiter described the salad (which came with our meals) as Caesar salad, but better. It is similar to Caesar salad, but instead of parm cheese sprinkled in the salad, the lettuce was coated with a cheesy dressing. My husband at first liked it, but the dressing eventually got to him. So, he wasn't a huge fan. I liked it. For dinner, my husband had the Penne Con Vodka with shrimp. He enjoyed that. I had the Gnocchi Bolognese (the waiter said they make one of the best gnocchi, so I took him up on it). Unfortunately, I have to disagree with the waiter. The gnocchi was very dense and heavy. Not sure if they are using too much flour or overworking the dough, but gnocchi should be light and almost melt in your mouth. I've had my fair share of gnocchi, so I can't say that I would recommend this particular meal. The Bolognese sauce was fine. The price of our dinner (with a couple of drinks) was reasonable, so I can't complain that we overpaid for "okay to good" food. read more

This restaurant was highly recommended by a local, so we were happy that we were able to walk in with a large party and get a table right away. You have to have a love for traditional Italian food and service to truly appreciate this restaurant. Our waitress was so much fun and a great entertainer/server. Classic Italian mom, who took care of our every need. She made great recommendations for our wine. The Chips salad is an institution and I loved every bit of it. It is not the type of caesar salad that people are used to, which might be why the reviews are so varied. But it is a large salad with a lot of goopy dressing and I just loved it so much! I grew up eating our Sunday night dinners at Chiperellis and the food really was homemade. Fast forward to today I went to dinner at Chips with my son and I was so disappointed. I ordered Eggplant parmesan a big favorite of mine. When the entree arrived I saw two huge breaded lumps with a huge glob of mozzarella and marinara sauce. The first bite told me all I needed to know, the food was cold, shoved on the plate with a huge mound of watery pasta and sauce. Why cant restaurants teach the staff to use a salad spinner reduce the moisture and two how can you serve an obviously frozen eggplant patties and call it homemade.
