Are there on a regular Saturday night, with my husband and a friend. Waitress came asked if we wanted drinks. Very fast. But they didn't give us the drinks menu :-/ so she brought it and gave us about 5 min. We ordered mini crab cakes for appetizer ,and they were delicious! Food wasn't hot. The kitchen people bring the dishes and place them in a corridor by the bathroom way and there stays until the waitress can take them to the table. Ours didn't take that long, however still came a bit cold. Entres; sea food pasta "Pescatori" very plain. DONT RECOMMEND Rib eye Gorgonzola, very good! Sea food ravioli HANDS DOWN THE BEST!! After enjoying an evening with my family viewing the Christmas lights on 34th street, we ended the night at Chiapparelli's. The Italian motif is not just in the atmosphere and decor- the menu and staff provide an authentic Italian family experience. The house made mozzarella sticks (squares really) and the crab balls were a delightful start to our meal. My 16 year old loved the salad starter and hot Italian bread was enjoyed by all. Ample portion for the Bambino's from their kids menu. Chicken Marsala, Shrimp Nicoletta and the Manicotti were truly a masterpiece. Whether it's called sauce or gravy/ their meat sauce in the Manicotti was rich and flavor filled. Of course after the best tasting meal we've had in Little Italy to date- we had to take home some Canoli's and Tiramisu. I highly suggest this restaurant for family meals or date night. Dined at this establishment given the extremely high number of high quality reviews. The complimentary salad that everyone raves about was a family-sized serving of iceberg lettuce with a spattering of red onion and exactly (count em!) ONE slice of tomato. The salad was seasoned extremely liberally with powdered parmesan and nothing else. As an entree, I ordered the veal saltimbocca (served with provolone, spinach, and spaghetti). Traditionally, this consists of a veal cutlet sauteed with sage and prosciutto, but my "prosciutto" seemed suspiously ham-like in flavour and thickness, like ham you might eat with breakfast. The veal itself was really unappealing and weirdly slimy - probably due to the breading going wet from sitting in the meal's liquid too long before being served. On top of the veal were melted deli triangles of provolone which was frankly hilarious for a $24 plate of food. But what about the spaghetti, you ask? The spaghetti "side" came a few minutes later, naked and sad in a bowl with amazingly red marinara sauce globbed in a pile on top. I swear, my husband and I stared at the bowl in comic disbelief because we both thought it was a mistake. Nope. Asked the waiter to switch out for regular spaghetti so I could eat it with the meal I had ordered. Unfortunately, the spaghetti was over-cooked, under-seasoned, and obviously not house-made. Made things worse not better. TL; DR: The food is an insult given how expensive the plates are. Save yourself the money and go eat at a school cafeteria for the same (if not better) quality of food. read more

This is one of the last remaining vestiges of Baltimore's Little Italy eateries. I'd love to have gotten a group together for dinner, but I was only visiting for a short period of time. So I just stopped in for a quick bite. The antipasto and mini crab cakes were otherworldly. Both of which paired nicely with a house pinot noir I was able to score for the Happy Hour price. We ate here with a group (6) from work based on the reviews from yelp and the local recommendations. I can't speak for anyone else but our food was great and had a good home made taste to it. I had the tour of Chiapparelli and other had fettuccine and others had spaghetti along with some appetizers. I can say all of them were really good. The service was great provided by the bartender. We visited on a Wednesday and perhaps a bit slower day and reason for the great service and food. All I know is this was a good place and I would good back. I recently visited Chiapparelli's for the first time on July 20. I had booked a reservation for 15 people for my own baby shower luncheon. It was easy to make a reservation, and the woman that answered the phone was helpful and kind. I was left feeling excited about our luncheon...good company and good food from the reviews I read. Let me say that, indeed, the food is delicious. I had the crab cakes, fried mozzarella, and seafood ravioli (and cheesecake to go, but that was just mediocre). Additionally, I tried my wife's vodka penne. Every one of our guests enjoyed what they ordered. I gave this restaurant a two-star rating because of the service and the setting. We were brought to a nice little backroom on the second floor. The thermostat read 77 degrees when we entered the room even after arriving 45 minutes early, which would've given them some time to cool the room a bit. We lowered the setting to something like 65, but the first thing the waiter did when he entered the room (before even greeting us) was go to the thermostat and raise the setting to 69. He explained that setting it too low would cause more harm than good. Of the 2.5 hours we spent in that room, the temperature never got below 75 degrees. I am pregnant with triplets, which meant that I was certainly uncomfortable, but even my guests were sweating and looking anxiously at the temperature. After the waiter greeted us, he took out beverage orders and left the room. My wife had to seek him out to serve the drinks to us and take our food orders after we waited for approximately 25 minutes. He came right away after that with the drinks and took our orders. We had another really long wait during which we were not checked on...no refills...no more bread for guests that arrived a little late...nothing. Eventually, my brother-in-law went to get the waiter after we had all eaten because I wanted to see the dessert menu, guests wanted to order food to go (because the food is VERY good), and some of us needed refills. Again, 40-45 min waits before we would give in and seek the waiter out. Also, he never looked to see if the room had cooled after he turned the setting up nor offered an alternative to the hot room we were in. We then had to find him to get our bills. Fortunately, he came back for signatures in a more timely manner, but that's being kind. Guests were upset on our behalf, more than anything, because we felt we weren't giving them a positive experience. I left feeling very stressed about the service and torn about leaving a good/neutral/bad review because on the plus side...the reservation process was easy and the food delicious. We won't be back simply because of the service nor would we recommend that anyone else go there. The two stars are solely based on the food. Cheers. read more

These guys are crooks. If I could give negative stars I would. BEWARE IF YOU ARE THERE WITH A LARGE GROUP!!! They charge your card with whatever they feel like and make sure they give themselves a hefty tip on top. FRAUDULENT is a compliment. Additionally, they found a way to bypass your signature as proof that the charge is valid. My recommendation is - pay with cash and don't hand them your credit card. The food was mediocre at best. This small Italian restaurant is in the heart of little Italy and makes for a cozy dining experience. Food: We ordered the alfredo and vodka penne. The penne was marvelous and flavorful, but we found the Alfredo to be on the bland side. We were excited about the complementary bread, but it was somewhat dry and disappointing. One of my favorite parts of the meal was the salad included in the pasta order that came as a surprise--it was really tasty. The serving sizing were generous, which meant we had leftovers which was nice. Service: We had a mixed service experience here. We waiting ages to be served water (the bread came 10 minutes before the waters arrived). Our waiter kept saying to someone else "Oh they need water" rather than getting it for us themselves, which was frustrating and seemed to cause the massive delay. However, the serving staff was very friendly and chatted with us warmly about Baltimore, which was kind and redeemed the service experience for us. Parking: Street parking on a Saturday night was very limited (as in, no spots). I recommend parking in the Little Italy parking garage, as it's close, has plenty of spots, and is only $5 a day. Overall, this was a great night out in Little Italy (especially for the price), but not an ideal experience. read more

I'm from New Jersey, and Italian, so finding good Italian food outside if my home is difficult. My boyfriend and I have tried Sabatino's; it was good but the marinara was too sweet. Chiaparelli's has amazing marinara, more tomatoey & I love it like that. I was eating the marinara from the Arancine with a spoon. My gnocchi in bolognese was absolutely superb; the sauce wasn't too saucy or liquidy & it was so meaty! The gnocchi were not the same shape, which means they were hand made. Did I mention they were puffs of heaven??? And the BF's ravioli were awesome! The wait staff was great; I always enjoy free bread from middle aged women who think the BF is cute! We were there around 6pm on a Friday, with baby in car seat in tow. The hostess seated us in the front right by the door when we asked for a quiet space away from the other guests. I was thrilled to see that they had ginger beer, since I'm pregnant and can't enjoy the wine. Unfortunately it was quite flat and didn't have much kick to it, so I left most of it in the glass. We started with the breadbasket. The bread was a little on the dry side, much improved with the olive oil, pepper, and parmesan mix I made on my bread plate, rather than the heaping pile of butter packets provided. Next came the Chip's salad, which comes with each entree. This salad was practically a full head of iceberg with red onions, tomatoes, pepperocinis, and croutons. The whole thing was doused in cheesy, garlic dressing. The dressing was flavorful, but the produce was a little soft and wilted. I had the Vittelo Leo, breaded veal with tomatoes, prosciutto, basil, capers. The veal was nicely cooked, and the sauce was a good balance of savory, sweetness, and acidity. I sopped up almost all of the sauce with the bread basket. There was a little too much breading on the veal, and it didn't really adhere, so I ended up pushing about half of it to the side. My dining companions enjoyed their lasagna and mussels (appetizer portion ordered as the main), particularly the crispy garlic bread that came with the mussels. We attempted to rush out the door as the baby started to get fussy about eating her own dinner, and they mostly obliged, though our server was busy taking orders and drinks to the other table, since the restaurant had gotten pretty busy by 6:45. As we left, the valet was in a heated argument with an older gentleman. We were glad that we'd taken a cab, even if we were honked at for taking too long (1 whole minute) to get a baby and older lady out of a cab and pay for it. Away on business and had to head over to Little Italy. The locals said this was the place to go. So, I headed over and sat in the bar. I had the Calamari Fritti for an appetizer. Nice size portion. I had to take it to go, because it was so large. Easily could fill 2+ people. It was one of the best calamari appetizers I've ever had. It came with a nice marinara sauce and a ton of lemons. Recently returned for dinner with some friends (last few times have been with my large, extended Italian family). Started with a bottle of the montepulciano they had on the menu - was good but a little dry for my taste. Shared the shrimp Nicola and the sausage and peppers for appetizers. Both were excellent. I have to be honest, I keep coming back because of the chips salad - it's just delish! For our main entrees, we ordered the penne vodka, veal eggplant (with penne instead of spaghetti) and the tour of Chiparellis (lasagna, alfredo, eggplant parm). The veal was tender but if I'm being honest, their gravy (aka tomato sauce) just isn't to my liking - may be that I'm just a little too spoiled and used to how my Italian family makes ours. But this doesn't diminish the high quality of the food in anyway. the penne vodka sauce was just right and the taster provided a nice sampler of the menu for my non-Italian friends. Love the aura/atmosphere of the place - this time we ended up seated next to a very loud group of high school or college girls and the noise was deafening - but can't be too picky because we didn't have a reservation and they graciously managed to get us in. Also, our waitress was lovely and very attentive. And, the prices are staggeringly amazing for what you are getting!
