I haven't been to Chiapparelli's in years but today three of my sisters, our mother and I all went there for lunch today and they absolutely exceeded our expectations. The atmosphere was so warm and welcoming, the service from Helen was fantastic and the food was authentic homemade Italian to die for. Oh and the prices were very reasonable. We had such a great time and will absolutely go back. Highly recommend this. Would be great for families or couples. read more

We came here a year ago and it was fabulous.....this time it was terrible. They must have changed chefs and cut costs because the food was horrible. The "Caesar" salad was limp and over dressed with some type of oil and boxed Parmesan cheese mix. Very bland. I ordered the chicken Vincenzo which should have been a white wine and lemon sauce....all they did was put the same sauce as on my husbands which was the marsala sauce. The chicken was over sauced and not crispy...not fresh like before...like they have a bunch of chicken already premade and just drench it in sauce. The "prosciutto" topping was nothing but chopped up processed ham. Dessert and coffee were ok.....the only saving grace. But for the cost...its not worth it. We won't be coming back. read more

Ive been here about 3 or 4 times now. Because I am dead set on lasanga almost everytime I visit an Italian Restaurant, I have only had that dish here, and it seems to get smaller and smaller in portion size every time. The price however, 18$, does not shrink in size. Serivce is always pretty good, I would definetly come back and try something new next time around. Also, just a side note. Typical Italian run restaurant, with the management yelling at employees in front of customers. Not very original. Oh and one more thing, why no lunch menu or specials? As a party of 3, we were sat on a Saturday afternoon around 1:00 PM and were not brought water until 23 minutes had elapsed. Our orders were not taken until we had sat at the table for over an hour. Our waitress had no idea what anything on the menu was, and when we ordered our wine, she split the entire thing all over my mother. I know accidents happen, but on top of everthing else, this was the last straw. I don't think I have ever experienced worse service. It put a damper in our family day plans visiting in the city of Baltimore and we will NEVER return to this restaurant. read more

The food is decent with a few stars on the menu: get the drooling gnocci. However, the prices are high(ish) and for that price, I shouldn't have to deal with below average service. Maybe I'm the dumb one but I've gone back twice to get some more of the gnocci, and both times the wait staff has messed up my order, and I have had to get up and find them if I wanted anything. I don't get a lot of time off, and when I go out to eat, I don't think I should have to physically seek out my waitress in order to get the check or a drink refill. I won't be returning. Bad service is a major deal breaker for me. read more

The restaurant was highly recommended by the valet at the Fairfield Inn, especially the sangria. So for my first meal in Baltimore, I decided to give it a try. Upon arrival at the restaurant, we were greeted by no one. The hostess was no where to be found. When we finally were seated, it was time to again wait for service. Yes, it was what appeared to be a busy Friday night but I found it unusual to not be welcomed by a server asking for our drink order. It was a 15 minute wait to place our order. The dinner salad and bread were brought out immediately. Just an ok salad and nothing special bread. Next, my sangria was delivered. The menu mentioned all the fruit that was included in the handmade sangria. All I received was chunk pineapple. Probably from a Dole can. The sangria was bad. It tasted like old wine mixed with cool-aid. The dinner then came. Unfortunately it was nothing special. I had the vodka pene with chicken. The chicken was tough to chew. The other dishes we ordered were again nothing special. Ravioli and gnocchi. So, diner beware. I would look elsewhere for a true dining experience. Start to finish. read more

Chiapparelli's has amazing food. The salad is amazing. Today though, I called to ask to make a reservation for a party of 3. I was put on hold for a few minutes. Once I was able to talk to someone, he was extremely rude. I asked him if I could make a reservation for 3 people for this evening. He informed me that he didn't have a reservation open until 8:30 with an attitude. I then asked him to repeat to make sure I understood him correctly and he repeated again with an even larger attitude. He then proceeded to hang up on me. I'm visiting from Florida and I was extremely disappointed with Chiapparelli's. I'm originally from Maryland but moved to Florida 6 years ago. This has to be my favorite Italian restaurant in Baltimore. Every time family comes in from out of state, the first thing they say is let's go to Chippy's. The moment you walk in the front door, you smell the aroma of their outstanding Caesar salad. You can't go to Chiaprelli without getting their Caesar salad. It's standard with every meal. This past summer, I ordered two trays of lasagna for an event I was attending. They gave me extra sauce, a huge tray of salad, garlic bread, and an extra container of their fabulous Caesar salad dressing. It was the hit of my event. Highly recommend, you will not be disappointed. Going here is like going home and being waited on by your mama. They make you feel like family. read more

I won a gift certificate for dinner here a few years ago. It made me wish I had just donated to the charity instead of buying the raffle ticket. Lousy food and the yellow and white House Salad with unsavory dressing was terrible. Since that time, I have been repeatedly subjected to an annual dinner there at the request of a local (Non-Italian) customer. With at least 12 meals now under my belt I can honestly say I've not had one that I enjoyed. In fact, most plates have gone unfinished. More often than not, they have resulted with indigestion as well. During one such business dinner, I feigned a family emergency and went across the street and ate, while my party completed their meal at Chip's. Do not order from here. It took over an hour for my food to arrive. The calamari was soggy and the lasagnga was awful, I have had better frozen. There was no noticeable meat in my "meat sauce". They also neglected to include the side salad I paid for/ordered. When I called, they suggested that I drive across the city to pick it up. I went there for the 1st time last week. Our waitress was Helen. You should definitely ask for her! She was wonderful and while we stayed a little later than most people she frequently checked on us and joked around. She told my friend and I all about Italy and we really enjoyed her company. I had the special of the night which was vegetarian lasagna and I loved it. It was an amazing dish. The bread was wonderful and the salad wasn't what I'm used to but I liked it. Visited the National Aquarium and needed a place for my family to get a bite to eat afterward. Chiapparelli's is a convenient walk from the Aquarium, and my family wanted a non-chain Baltimore eating experience. Our experience was...the bread was cold and dry with no taste and the salad was terrible (wilted iceberg lettuce and lots of dressing with no flavor). The meal was too expensive for the taste of it being just so, so. The only pro about this restaurant was that we did not have to wait due to it having a large dining area, it was kid friendly and it can accommodate larger parties, if you have one. I wished I would have researched where we should go to eat a little better. read more

I traveled one hour to meet some friends at this restaurant and I was hoping to be impressed. I was not. The food was not worth the money spent. To be fair, the service was friendly and helpful, but the food was not worth the drive. I ordered eggplant parma which came with a small glob of spaghetti. Decent food. Felt a bit neglected with the service. There was no host upon entering the restaurant, so the server just pointed to a table & said have a seat and Ill be right with you. We sat there for a few minutes with no drink or food menus and were given bread & water, but with no bread plates. The only server on seemed to have too many tables. When he finally came back with menus, he then was busy with a ten top for about 5 more minutes. After he took our drink orders he came back a few minutes later to say they were out of the beer, which he recommended. Food was pretty quick, but we couldn't get a hold of the server to tell him we wanted to order a bottle of wine. When we finally ordered wine, the server came back to tell us about halfway through dinner they were out of our wine. We just decided to get boxes & the server immediately brought us the check without offering dessert or coffee. We opted still to order a couple of baileys and coffees and lemon cello cordials as well. Still sitting there for about an additional 45 mins after dinner chatting, none of our empty drink glasses (5 or so glasses) were removed, nor were our waters refilled. We saw a female manager also walking by several times, but talking on her cell phone in the restaurant. After we paid & were leaving, the manager, still on her cell phone, didn't say thanks for coming in or have a good night, but simply, "leave through the bar door, the front door is locked." We asked if she could call a cab for us, as it had started raining. She, seemingly annoyed, opened the front door & told us to walk a block (on a slow Monday night) and would find one, proceeding to promptly lock the door behind us. Overall , we had good food & drinks, but we didn't feel the service was any where near up to par, nor the friendliness. I usually feel Italian restaurants are warm and inviting in atmosphere, but that was not the case this visit. Although the restaurant boasts 60ish years of service, I would not recommend it. I'm a laid back bartender & I live & eat out in Baltimore a lot, and I can honestly say that with so many other good restaurant choices nearby, this place has some serious stepping up to do. read more

It is really heart breaking writing this review, considering it is not the most positive. For years my family and I have been frequenting Chiapparelli's, we hosted my brother's rehearsal dinner and my mother's 60th birthday party at the restaurant, and have always loved the atmosphere, food and service. I was extremely excited to return to one of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore, considering I've lived out of state for 5+ years, but my excitement was quickly diminished shortly after arrival. My boyfriend and I decided to go to Chiapparelli's for Valentines Day, he had never been. We knew it would be packed; however did not expect sub par food and horrible service. The bread at our table was ICE cold, we asked for warm bread and were told it wasn't possible due to the amount of people being served tonight, who eats cold bread at an Italian restaurant? We ordered the Brueschetta appetizer, it was horrible, again who messes up something as simple as this? My boyfriend order one of the Veal dishes and I played in safe with my favorite Eggplant Parmigiana; however both arrived and were less to be desired. My BF gave me a taste of his veal and it was tough and had the texture of rubber, how do you make a meat designed to be tender tough and rubbery? He stopped eating and asked the waiter to take away his plate. My Eggplant was ok, but nothing special. Our server was nice; however kept rushing us through our meal and forgetting items we ordered, including my main course which he had to come back to ask 2x for. At least five tables around us were complaining also, one got up in the middle of their meal and left. I just kept hoping things would get better, I used to love this place. I am very displeased with the experience as a whole. I do understand that we chose to come here on probably one of their most crowded days; however the food should still hold up to its reputation, even the house salad was awful. I grew up in Baltimore and my family used to eat at Chiapparelli's regularly for special occasions. We are there last night while visiting my mother and had a mediocre meal. The service staff was very friendly and prompt but the food was not good. Overall, food was overly greasy and the sauces tasted store bought, Their famous salad was just as I remembered it - an ample portion to put it mildly. I think that the restaurant has become a tourist destination and is no longer a family restaurant. Portions are large but the quality is no longer there. We will try to find a better Italian restaurant for future trips to Little Italy. read more

I've been coming to Chipparelli's for 30 years. The food is old school but fine. (Yes, the salad is special.) Anyway, my beef with the old girl is the service. Over the last few years the service has gone downhill. I've gone for lunch and had bad service. I've gone for dinner and had bad service. I've gone during off hours when almost no one was there and the service was lousy. Today was it for me. I'm done with the place. Probably the worst Italian Restaurant I ever visited. Had dinner Saturday night. No wait, pleasant servers but food was horrible. The mussels had no flavor, the pasta dishes had no flavor. Was yearning an Italian dinner and decided to call for carry out this evening. They are famously known for their delicious house salad which my family generally orders by the tray for family parties. I've always asked them to keep the dressing and cheese seperate and we mix it right before eating. Well, apparently I should have made this request this evening when ordering my Linguini with clam sause and a side salad. The salad was truly pitiful. It appeared like last night's leftovers. EXTREMELY SOGGY! We threw it out!! Also, I understand that this restaurant has been around for a long time and naturally will suffer wear and tear but this old establishment won't be around too much longer if they don't begin putting some money back into the place. As I waited for Mr. Coale to prepare my carryout, I glanced down at the faded and worn carpet and couldn't believe that this restaurants had once hosted Presidents and big named entertainers. If they don't get their act together soon it will be yet another faded memory of a Little Italy. Incidentally, the linguini was just average, at best. Hope that others that dare to go will have a better experience. Sorry that to leave such a poor review but I truly hope that they see this and improve dramatically. read more

My husband and I have been going to Chiapparelli's for as long as we've been together, so that makes this 50 years. We have never had a bad experience, ever, and it seems to just get better and better. Had dinner there for New Year's Eve and I must say, it was perfection. You just can't get a bad meal there. Very, very happy two weeks ago when my friends and I ate at this restaurant. They are known for their salad - which is AMAZINGLY good - esp if you like garlic. The salad is perfect for garlic lovers. I got the gnocchi (drooling - so it was in a creamy sauces with a little red sauce on the top). It was so good - words cannot describe. One of the reasons I am posting this review is the staff. We went here this past Saturday for dinner with a party of 10. I had made a reservation for 6:30 and we arrived a few minutes early but were immediately taken to our table. The staff was good about adding more tables to make sure we had enough space and made sure we had plenty of water throughout the night. I ordered the drooling gnocchis which was covered in alfredo sauce and had a touch of red sauce on them as well. The pasta was delicious and very rich but I thoroughly enjoyed the dish. The pasta also came with their house salad which was a good portion as well as warm bread. I allowed a few of my friends a bite of my gnocchis and they definitely felt that this dish stole the show! Two of my friends also had the tour dish with three different entrees on it and they enjoyed that as well. Summary: The only redeeming quality of this restaurant is that the food served was edible, this earning it 1 star. Everything else was just bad. This restaurant is quite possibly one of the worst eating out experiences I have ever had. At the outset, it seems like a really nice place to eat in terms of decor and front-of-house service. However, after ordering our meals, this experience rapidly degenerated. To begin, the appetizer salad was thoroughly overdressed and not all that great. Then the food took 45 minutes to be served. Expecting a great meal, we all dove into our food with eagerness only to be sorely disappointed after the very first bite. One of my friends ordered a salmon and shrimp Caroline and there was not nearly enough of the food for a person. To make matters worse, the cook must have forgot that salt exists as a way to add flavor to food because that was tasteless. Given the heavy price tag of the restaurant my friends and I were all under the assumption that the food served would have some sort of flavor. Once again, sorely misled. The only redeeming quality of this restaurant is that the food served was edible, thus earning it 1 star. read more
