When we got there it was less busy and our server was able to give us more attention but as it got busier, he was responsible for more tables. Nonetheless, he was great. The biggest disappointment for me was the crab rangoons that cost $14 and looked like this. There was nothing special about them and they looked ridiculous. If you're looking to snack on something along with your beer, don't waste your money because everything was ridiculously overpriced and I can't imagine what those items looked like. Just came here to have a few drinks. They have a large selection of beers available. I chose one of their pilsners, Metropolitan Flywheel, and it was very good. I would get one of these again for sure! I also had one of their mixed drinks, Stawbasil Vodka Lemonade. The strawberries were extremely fresh! It was more flavorful as you reach the bottom. Worst meal I've ever paid for. The southwestern wrap was the most flavorless thing I've ever eaten. It also didn't have cheese and it was supposed to. The guac was disgusting and the pretzel was mid. This might've been the worst restaurant experience that I've ever had. We made reservations far in advance for Chicago Brewhouse excited for the views and to try their drinks. After the hostess sat us we waited for about 20-30 minutes until we politely flagged a bus boy down to get a server. It was extremely busy, so we were understanding of the long wait times, however, we should have just left at that point. The entire staff was extremely rude to us after that & wouldn't even walk near our table. The rest of the night consisted of overpriced cold meals and mediocre drinks while our server was no where to be seen. We only saw our server when he took our order and when we closed our tab. Serving a pregnant woman alcohol without consent - not cool. My husband and I are vacationing in Chicago and stopped here for a drink. I ordered a hot apple cider, which was a drink clearly listed under the the non-alcoholic menu. I drank my cider and thought it was pretty good but noticed something was off about it, but I chalked it up to having too much cinnamon or cloves or something. My husband had 1 beer and when we asked for the bill it was $25 - so that was our first clue that something was weird. When I looked at our tab and it said "Jameson Cider". I never ordered a Jameson cider, I ordered a hot apple cider and pointed to it on the menu when I ordered it. Mind you she never carded me either. I started panicking knowing I just unknowingly drank hard alcohol while 4 months pregnant. I asked to talk to the bartender on duty to verify whether or not there was Jameson in it and of course they had left for the day. She then tried telling us there wasn't Jameson in it to try to cover her a** so I asked for a cup of hot cider to compare and sure enough mine smelled different and was a lot darker in color. If you're going to come to the Chicago Brewhouse, the main thing you need to know is that you're coming for the views of the river and the city beyond, and the service and food are mostly good, but not mind-blowing. I was in town for a library conference, and I wanted to eat at a restaurant somewhere along the Chicago River. I had never been on the Riverwalk before, and this place seemed to have the most buzz in terms of sit-down restaurants along the Riverwalk when I searched on Yelp. When I got there with my friends, we were seated right away, and they gave us the option of sitting along the river itself or a little bit up and away from it, closer to the restaurant. Basically, there are tables set right along the river, an open-air patio, and an indoor portion of the restaurant. It was nice out, so we decided to sit on the patio. The server who helped us was very attentive, and he helped us get anything that we didn't already have, such as extra napkins or some more au jus when I ran out of some early-on (more on that in a second). The menu is pretty small and limited--they feature a lot of bar food appetizers and sandwiches/wraps. Being in Chicago, I decided to go with the Italian Beef sandwich. I elected to go with sweet peppers as well, so if there are fans of hot peppers on the iconic sandwich out there, my bad! When the busser brought the sandwich out, he tripped and spilled the au jus all over my sandwich and the chips included as a side (the au jus came in a little cardboard cup). There was maybe a fifth of the actual au jus left in the container once he got to our table, but he didn't offer a replacement, and he said nothing about spilling it all over the food. I didn't really care though, as the chips weren't that soggy yet, and the sandwich was still pretty whole. I ended up running out of the au jus almost right away though, and the chips did end up getting soggy very quickly, but they still tasted good. The sandwich itself was delicious, but it seemed to be a little skimpy on the meat- more times than not, I came away with a large mouthful of bread and peppers instead of meat. The meat that was included on the sandwich tasted delicious though, and our waiter helped get me more au jus right away when I asked him for some. It was extremely pleasant and calming to stare out at the river and the beautiful buildings as we ate our food, and that was the real treat out of the whole experience. Overall, the location cannot be beat, and you can't go wrong wandering over here on a summer afternoon, grabbing a beer, and sitting along the little lip that runs along the patio and reading a book if it's not too hot. I will be back to try another sandwich and to explore the location more when I'm in town again! read more

My guy and I only sat for a couple sodas this visit. It was the first time there and probably the last since we only went because we were walking on the river which we don't do often. Why the 2 star review? The server AUTOMATICALLY added herself a 25% tip, handed me the tablet, and asked me to sign without alerting me of the pre-added gratuity. (See picture stating tip NOT automatically added). As someone who used to serve that is dishonest and practically theft. Our bill was $14 for a soda and a kombucha. By adding her own tip, she would have gained $0.60 since I chose to leave her 20%. TBH, I wish I hadn't. I have NEVER left $0 tip, but if anyone deserves to have a tip withheld it would be that server. Yes, I'm complaining about her adding $0.60 to her tip because if she's doing it to the low tabs she probably does it to the more expensive tabs which, again, is theft. It would be a completely different story if she had stated to me that she added gratuity on her own and that it could be adjusted as I deemed appropriate. We stopped in one afternoon to take in the riverwalk, have a few drinks and enjoy some people watching and boy were we pleased. The beer was local, ice cold and tasty. So I came back and I'll probably place this review in another place. Today I was meeting an old friend I have not seen in a long long time. Well 15 minutes have gone by, we haven't had any service. He got us another order put in but this time the bald headed server came by, places our cups down and spills some of our drinks on the table. At first I thought he is rushing? But it wasn't until I ordered a third drink, from him this time, that he did it again! This guy doesn't deserve to be working here! Cactus tattoo deserves a raise for him helping out the other tables that were not even his. He was incredible. Walked Riverwalk for first time this last Sunday. It was chilly and we hoped for indoor seating, but no luck. Got a small table at the Brewhouse next to the river with a great view. In addition to the river view it was also a great place for people watching as the Riverwalk path was alongside our table. Server was quick, very pleasant and did a good job of walking us through the menu, which I thought was actually pretty extensive. Wife ordered the foot-long Chicago hot dog and polish. She seemed to have fun eating it and said it was quite tasty. I was also surprised that she could finish it because it was more food than she normally eats, so clearly she liked it. And the price was surprisingly reasonable considering that it was the equivalent of two sandwiches. I did the Back of the Yards Meat Lover sandwich. It was packed with three different meats and was also very good. One recommendation if you order this sandwich is to ask for more sauce because there was so much roast beef that a lot of it was without sauce and a little dry. I ended up pulling some of the meat out of the sandwich because there was so much and offered it to some of the dogs walking by our table - obviously with owner's permission. Pork was unseasoned and freezer burnt, snapped my plastic knife right in half when I tried to cut it. I picked this place to enjoy a light dinner before a show at the Chicago Theatre. The river view is very enjoyable and the water traffic is fun to observe. That's about where it ends with enjoyment. Our server was ok. She did say something off-putting when I asked for tap water and she said we had to buy bottles of water because the "River water" is no good to drink. I'm a native Chicagoan and we have the best water in the country. They sell bottled water the same way on Navy Pier. It's Chicago's low-class way of taking advantage of visitors. Just utter nonsense and rude. Tap water should be served and this bottle water BS should not be allowed as it is simply taking advantage of visitors who don't know better. I'd have gotten up and left but we were late to get to a show. My mistake. The food was just ok and terribly overpriced. We had a pretzel. It was just ok. It came with a tiny cup of beer cheese and was supposed to have mustard but that was forgotten. The tacos are minuscule and are just meat and tortilla. One can order onions as well but not a good value. The Caesar salad was just so ordinary and overpriced. It is shameful that Chicago encourages restaurants like this to treat visitors this way. Our bill for 3 people with no alcoholic drinks and just three simple foods was $80 after tip. Shame, shame. We will not be returning here nor would I suggest visitors come and eat here. read more

I appreciated the selection of local beers, although they were out of three of them. The food was ok. The chips and guacamole was pretty basic. I can't say the pretzels were good. The first few bites were ok, but within just a few minutes, they were rock hard - clearly had been heated in a microwave. It was conveniently located but probably not a place I'll frequent.
