Chicago Brewhouse is my favorite restaurants to visit during the summer. They have list of seating available. They are right underneath the Michigan bridge so they have easy access. The two levels of seating provide enough space to seat large groups. For ordering, we need to go to the counter and place our order and they bring the order to you. The food is great! I love their cauliflower tacos and their pizza and the prices are reasonable too. The place is lit during the evenings. During the fall, they place heat lamps around for you to warm up. My friends and I came here on a Saturday night at 8pm. We had reservations, not sure if we actually needed them. The Riverwalk was oddly not very busy. We sat outside and the patio was pretty packed. We just grabbed the pork tacos, they were surprisingly really good. We didn't get any drinks, but if you ask for water it's $3 and it's water bottles only. Visited this place earlier this month, and it was pretty nice, but I personally think it's overrated... though I think that's how most places on the lake/river are because you are paying for the atmosphere and view. Don't get me wrong, I would come here again, but personally, I think it's expensive for what you get. $8.50 for a normal can of White Claw (not even the large cans) and $7 was the CHEAPEST beer they sold... I don't drink Miller Lite, but it was $7.50 for a can lol. And of course, you can't just order water for free, you need to buy a bottle of water for $2. Downtown, in general, is expensive because of tourism, but for us who live in Chicago, that sucks. This is why I don't live downtown haha. One thing I LOVE about this place is that they sell local Chicago-based meals and beers. The menu tells you what neighborhood the recipes come from, and I think that is so cool. I also like that they use recycled materials for their bowls, but I thought it was pretty wasteful that everything else used was plastic (cups, forks, knives). Since customers spend so much money on beer and food, you would think they wouldn't have us using all plastic. Maybe it was because of COVID, but looking at photos from before COVID started, it seems as though they always had them (yet somehow it looks like they've actually gotten smaller). I ordered the Falafel and Hummus Bowl. It was very good and it is made with "field greens, heirloom tomatoes, cucumber, red cabbage, roasted pine nuts, and lemon tahini dressing." It was very flavorful. My friend ordered a Falafel Chicken Shawarma Pita and enjoyed it, and my other friends enjoyed their food, as well, which were the Beef Banh Mi and the Gyro Sliders. The view of the river is definitely ideal, but we did have a planter next to us, so there were so many bugs flying right by us. I wish we were seated right off of the river, but those are tables that seat two people. We were able to walk around the Chicago River after, and it was a nice night to just relax and hang out. My partner and I stopped by to get a break from the hot summer sun. While the location is great (right along the river) food and service was pretty average. The main thing that struck me was that they don't serve complimentary water (even though we both ordered food and drinks). They charged $3.50 per bottle. This a great place to sip on a drink and relax and see some great views. It's located right on the river walk so you get an amazing view of the city. I got to even enjoy the nice sunset. It was delicious, my boyfriend ordered an Italian beef. I ordered a Froze which was pretty good but they only have paper straws and I was struggling trying to drink from it without the straw getting super soft. I stopped in here when wandering around the city this past weekend and I was pleasantly surprised! The staff was super friendly, the Hazy IPA I ordered was wonderful, and the barbacoa tacos were some of the best I've ever had! So good! It was a Sunday afternoon and they had the Bears game on. I will start with the obvious: Location is prime! Right along the stroll of the Riverwalk during the summer months this pop-up is a nice go-to for an outside spot to enjoy a brew from an extensive menu of local and less common beers or some bar bites while enjoying yachts and canoes pass along the river. Yes, you read that right. Bar bites and that's being generous because the food is not anything to get excited about. Started with a soft salty jumbo pretzel which comes with mustard and a cheese dip. It was shareable but you can tell it's not made fresh and was not served warm. Bummer because for one pretzel at $15 I expected more. Then the gyro trio ($13) came out... small portion by comparison and the meat was tough and overcooked. Ended up sending it back three bites in as it was not tolerable but the waitress was super sweet about it. She recommended the foot long ball park dog ($12) which I probably would not have considered but I am pleased to report that was a home run choice! Came loaded with all the messy fixings you might typically find at a Cubs game and a side of potato chips. Note: all items come with cardboard plates, plastic utensils and cups. While in a Covid world I think that works for now so everything can be tossed but long term I might re-evaluate that because of the tremendous waste. Will I be back? Yeah it's a good spot to stop for a cold one but I also would suggest they have better kitchen quality controls. read more

We tried to start with the Lakeview Charcuterie Board $28 FROM PAULINA MEAT MARKET Andouille sausage, hot capicola, Genoa salami, hard salami, pistachio mortadella. Served with spicy olive salad, onion jam, grain mustard, sport peppers, grape tomatoes. We were informed that there was a supply issue and it was unavailable. Weird since it's local product but ok. We went with the Lincoln Square Jumbo Pretzel $16 Butter, salt, beer cheese, grain mustard - perfectly average big pretzel. For lunch I chose Kedzie Falafel Chicken Shawarma $17 Falafel, tahini, tomato, onion, cucumber, pita bread... blech. The chicken was dry and mushy with no color or flavor. My drink was the Sparkling Paloma $15 Altos Silver Tequila, Sparkling Fever Tree Grapefruit, grapefruit wedge. It came in a clear plastic disposable cup with a lemon wedge. If you simply must dine on the river, it's an option. As for me, I'd rather enjoy a meal AND a view and head to one of the other many restaurants just feet away. read more

Picture this: a beautiful, sunny, warm Friday, outdoor table on the Riverwalk, refreshing adult beverages - regular Vodka Lemonade for me and a special strawberry Basil Lemonade for my friend . I decided on the Pilsen Street tacos. It's an order of three regular (not mini) size tacos. Pork carnitas, pineapple, onion OR beef barbacoa, onion, cilantro. I had two beef and one pork. The flavors were so deep, delicious and satiating. Meat was cooked to soft perfection. Fresh, soft, corn tortillas and local salsa. For $14, which I didn't think was so bad for the size of tacos and location. And the view could not be beat on a beautiful summer day in Chicago. Busy | low-key | pre-game Busy: The brewhouse is in a pretty busy location on the river walk. We went to the brew house after a architecture boat tour around 5pm on a Friday. The wait was 30 minutes. The place seats about 50 people total. Low-key: the menu is standard bar food. The menu is relatively limited but, the overall vibe is pretty ideal for enjoying conversation and watching boats go up and down the inlet. You can get a chair and eat over the wall as well if you just want an appetizer and drink. Pre-game: the menu, vibe, and location make it an ideal pre-game or after work spot for drinks to start your weekend. Pro-tip: 10% student discount Pro tip: make sure you stay around the area because they have a quick trigger for giving away tables. Chicago Brewhouse has a great location on the river, but that's about it. I did like their emphasis on local foods, but portions were small and prices were high. It was nice to be able to sit out by the river and enjoy the warm summer weather, but over $10 for a beer put a damper on the experience. I know the high prices are due to the touristy location, but I feel like there are other places around that have a lower price point. The food was just okay. We got a couple of share plates to split and they aren't joking when they call them small plates. Service was pretty friendly and our food and drinks came out quickly. The thing I disliked the most was how everything was disposable. We ordered waters to go alongside our drinks and were brought plastic bottled water. Cutlery was disposable, our drinks came in plastic cups, and our food was on disposable plates. Not sure if this is a covid precaution, but it seems so wasteful. I'm trying to be mindful of my plastic use, so it was disappointing to be served exclusively on disposable and plastic products. I was a little underwhelmed with this restaurant for the price I paid. Drinks per usual are overpriced. And majority of the food items are classified as "shared plates" and the portions are small and simply not worth the price. My friend had 3 steak tacos for $13, the size of a toddler's hand. Unfortunately, it didn't even come with rice or beans. Just a side of salsa!!! That's over $4 per taco! We also ordered $12 flatbread pizza, you could have gotten a larger flatbread from Panera. The Italian beef was delicious but the chips were soggy. They should offer French fries. Also service was SO slow! It took 15 minutes to have our waiter even come to our table after being seated and he kept forgetting items. Terrible service. 1 star for the view and 1 star for the Frose (that drink was spectacular, so refreshing and delicious) If you want to enjoy a drink on the river, sure come here, but I don't recommend the food. read more

This place must be a tourist trap. They layout this menu of "Chicago specialties"...and so, on paper, looks good. We brought some out of town friends there for lunch before the architectural tour. After perusing the menu, we recommend that they try the Italian beef, I ordered the bahn mi and my husband the beef shwarma. Oh noooooo, they di-int! I looked at the Italian beef...looked like it was served on a hotdog bun, not dipped and not given the option (probably b/c the hotdog bun would've disintegrated), my bahn mi tasted like a barbacoa sandwich on a some kind of bread that had no resemblance to traditional bahn mi bread and my husband's shwarma...ughhhh...instead of being served on a pita, it looked like ciabatta bread and the beef was pretty much nil. To add insult to injury, if you want water, you have to pay for a bottle and the drinks that we wanted (frozen margaritas) weren't available (a crime on a beautiful, sunny, summer Friday) and our 2nd choice drinks were awful, tiny and $16 per. The Frosé was perfect. Husb went with the Anti Hero IPA and enjoyed it. Low-key atmosphere, great service, great view--love that it's dog-friendly too. We split the footlong dog; grilled onions, hot peppers and mustard, with a polish sausage on one half and a beef hotdog on the other. We ordered it without relish and inhaled it. There's a ramp nearby to reach the pedestrian level of the riverwalk (convenient if your pug is rotten and has a stroller). Easy and relaxed--we'll definitely be back! read more
