If all home services sent out their technicians or reps as quickly as Chicago Locksmith does, the world would be a better place in so many ways. I called Chicago Locksmith before lunch on a Monday, and the customer service was smooth. The guy gave me a two-hour window in which the locksmith would show up, but when I requested a specific time, he said that's when the locksmith would be there. True enough. The locksmith, Joe, appeared at my requested time. After about 2 hours, he was able to re-key 5 different locks on three different doors. I got 2 free keys as well. Aside from being professional and knowledgeable, Joe's sense of humor just made him that much more personable. I would never use again. I had a lockout, they couldn't pick the lock and decided to break the doorknob and put on a new one--fine. Except after supposedly rekeying the knob to my old key, I still couldn't get into my house the next day and was stuck outside for hours waiting for a technician to come back. After once again adding another doorknob, my key works but my fiance's key doesn't. Did I mention that I'm still being expected to pay for this "service"? The lock to the front door of our building was suddenly completely broken -- my neighbors and I couldn't get in, and we couldn't get out! I would have normally gone to Home Depot and fixed this myself for $20, but It was after midnight so Home Depot was closed, and we wanted to be able to lock the door so we could sleep without worrying about someone coming into the building. So we called Chicago Locksmith, the dispatcher on the phone was professional and courteous, and the locksmith called and communicated well on the phone, and got out to us as soon as he could - we didn't have to wait too long. Great experience overall! I was having trouble with my ignition, and a dispatcher sent someone out within 10 minutes to diagnose the problem. Robert (I think was his name?) wasn't able to fix it for me, but he made me a back-up key that I ended up needing. He was also very nice and let me sit in his van while I waited because it was still cold outside! Then Brian called and came by within a couple hours! He took the steering wheel apart and fixed it in under a half an hour in the dark. Very friendly, very fast, and now it works! It also cost the bottom end of what he quoted me, so honest as well. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because communication between everyone was a little wonky. I live in Chicago, but was visiting the Morton Arboretum when I lost my car key for my Mazda 2 in the snow. Found the Chicago Locksmiths on Google. When I called, they were able to give me a quote and connect me with a local technician. After some back and forth with AAA, I went ahead and called the technician, who was able to be there in 30 mins. Robert was very nice and worked quickly, even in the freezing cold. The price ($250) was unfortunate but not much more than I was expecting. All was good until a couple days later, when the key would work only intermittently (went to get food and when I came out of the restaurant, it wouldnt start because it was not recognized). I called the locksmith company, who scheduled Robert to come to Chicago to check it out. There was some scheduling confusion and Robert needed to come later than originally scheduled, but he made another key for free, thinking this key was a bad make or the chip inside had gotten loose somehow. While I wish I had my original key, this company was very responsive and I was so happy with the free replacement. Never knew this was out there until I needed it, and it was a life saver! read more

Would not recommend. We used Chicago Locksmiths about 5 months ago to install a new lock. Within a couple of months, the bottom bolt/handle stopped properly closing and now it's to the point where we have to deadbolt the door to ensure safety. We tried to call to see if there is anything that they can do and they would not do anything without charging the full service amount again (originally paid over $100 for about 15 minutes of work). Called on a saturday, figuring I'd schedule them to come out in a week or so. The phone dispatcher was amazingly helpful. He asked me some questions, figured out what would be needed for the job, and within 5 minutes I received a call from Tory, who arrived at my door 20 minutes later. I had a Kwikset Smart Code deadbolt installed into a hollow metal door. Everything was done perfectly, and this was a more complicated install than the usual wood door. We had a different experience than most of these reviewers. Chicago Locksmith sent a contractor out to do our small job (two interior doors that needed fixing as they wouldn't stay shut). On one of the doors, the contractor installed a new door knob above the old door knob (instead of removing the old and adding in the new or something like that) so now we have two door knobs right on top of each other - looks great! (It doesn't look great it looks awful). And the new doorknob is at a weirdly high level in the door. Some advice: get an estimate. The guy used a $300 door knob assemblage which we had to pay for, I would have been happy with a $25 doorknob from home depot. Its an interior door. Finally, his drill died out and he did not have a charger. Also he had to remove a lock he installed as it didn't work, right before he left. Anyway, our experience was not good. read more
