Would highly recommend Chicago Locksmiths! I had a broken lock and had a number of people telling me it couldn't be fixed, that it was a special order lock that would take weeks to get. After sending a pic to a another locksmith company was told it wasn't something they could fix, even had Home Depot come out and was told they couldn't fix it and recommended I get a new door. lol. First time using a locksmith so not sure what is standard. Essentially when you call them they will tell you $20 for the locksmith to come out and then $35/hr. However, I was getting a bit suspicious when the guy kept fidgeting away from how much a job would cost. WORD OF WARNING: THEY MAY NOT CHARGE YOU BY THE HOUR BUT BY THE TYPE OF JOB THEY ARE DOING! The key to my bike lock broke off in my Kryptonite U-lock. I spoke to the guy on the phone and told him I would need someone with an angle grinder to come cut the lock. He still told me $20 to show up and $35/hr. However, when the guy shows up for the job he tells me its $150 to cut a lock regardless. Although they also claim to accept credit cards, the guy basically was basically telling me I would avoid a service charge if I paid cash. Honestly I felt like I was dealing with a shady company and that I was getting ripped off. Just be upfront with me. If its going to cost $150, then its going to cost $150 and I can make that decision without feeling I was given a bait-and-switch. The service itself was fine, the guy showed up and did his thing. I have a very old steamer trunk, which someone inadvertantly locked. I don't have a key. I called on New Years Eve day, thinking no one would be available, but that I would arrange an appointment for the following week. Surprise, Steve was at my house in less than a half hour. He asked me to send him a photo prior to his arrival, and cautioned me that he might not be able to pick this lock and might have to pry it off. He worked on picking it for about 10 minutes and was successful, preserving the lock itself. He showed great concern for doing no damage to this old trunk, belonging to my grandfather. Once he opened the lock, he inspected it again so that if he had a similar call in the future, he would be able to retrace his work and pick the lock without damage to the mechanism. Unbelievable. Everything started great and then turned into hell. Okay for you all yelpers who read my thread about locking my self out of my house, here was my second chance at a locksmith. I give them a call and this guy Robert was very friendly. Gave me all the information I needed. I didn't need the locksmith until later that night so I could get into my apartment so he just answered my questions and gave me a quote. Compared to other places I called, they were cheap. $25 to come out to my place and $35-75 depending on the lock. Most other places said $40-60 JUST to come out and then more money on the lock. No thanks. So I'm thinking this is a done deal. Robert said call about 30 minutes in advance for that is how long it would take them to get there. So later that night I give them a call again and Robert said he is sending someone over. After we hung up, the locksmith called me and said "27 minutes" Wow...pretty precise don't cha think? Anywho, I'm sitting and waiting outside my house. 30 minutes goes by, 45 minutes, finally it is an hour so I call the locksmith back and he says "ill be there in a few" Still waiting....finally I say forget it, and i tell him not to come and he was very quick to say "okay!" and hung up. WTF? Jerk. In the end, I ended up breaking into my own apartment. Luckly..and stupidly, i left the window open so i opened that and screwed off the bars that go across the window (oh yes, and did I mention I live in the ghetto) I climb into this small two foot window and get inside. This company was prompt to answer my call, gave good rekey prices and also offered a new homeowner discount of 20 percent. The tech that came was on time and pleasant. My only two qualms is that another company offered a higher rate (only 15bucks more total) to come out and rekey no matter what kind if lock you had. I decided to save and go with these guys but ended up spending more here as none of my locks were standard in my 1949 house. My mistake. If you have an older home you cannot assume the 35 will work. Know that it will be 80-100 per lock. As I said m, the 35 per lock didn't apply so my bill for 2 locks to be rekeyed and service fee was 220.00 with 20 percent off....vice 110.00. The final qualm is the tech had to do some extra drilling and find out if a new lock would work. In that time he made a huge mess and left afterward. I was doing other things and didn't notice until he was gone. Maybe he forgot or was in a rush to go to the next call since he spent so much time at my place but I was very unhappy since we just had cleaners out and there was so much debris and wood splinters on the floor and all over the counters it wasn't going to be a quick broom situation. I called and got a VERY sympathetic customer service person. I asked for a credit. No sense in making him come back out- but she called me back in less than five minutes and said he would be back to clean it up the next day. He was there and cleaned up on time without gripe. I heard that the owner made the choice not to give a credit but to make him come back. Any company willing to make it right and has values ( over just crediting and making homeowners clean) is good in my book. Solid people. Im satisfied! read more

Then I asked the locksmith if he could replace both locks with similar locks, keyed the same. 3 days later they called me and said my locks were in, keyed the same and they scheduled the replacement locks the same day. I started using Yelp again recently and it does not disappoint. I found Chicago Locksmith's after I got locked out of my house. Usually I would just wait for my boyfriend to get home but he was stuck at work and I was on my own for this. I found this listing and took a chance, SOOOO glad I did. When I called the company, the girl on the phone, I think her name was Susie, was extremely professional and kind. She sympathized with my situation, made me laugh and answered all my questions. I tend to talk a bit fast and she completely kept up and didn't get annoyed. She explained to me it was $19 to come out and the labor would be $35 and up. I obviously asked and what does "and up" mean. She let me know depending on what they had to do, drill or pick the lock (wasn't exactly sure what that meant but I've seen it on tv so it seemed legit" and how many locks I had, the price varied. She told me when the guy was onsite he would let me know before he did any work, she explained that if she gave me a flat price it could be too high which wouldn't be right or too low and I could potentially be upset. This seemed pretty fair to me and so I gave her my info. 25 minutes later, this seemed pretty fast, especially at night! Random met me, and with his id badge and t-shirt and business card, I felt comfortable immediately. He looked at the 2 locks I had and told me for both it would be about $150. For a late night call with that fast of a response time and the fact that they're license bonded, and insured, not a bad deal. I had my locks opened with no damage, and everything was done, from the phone call, start to finish within an hour. Completely worth it. Forgot my keys in my condo when I left and the door locked behind me. I figured I'd find some other more creative way to deal with it when I got back and didn't have any luck (adjoining balconies were farther apart than I thought) so I had to do a late night call to these guys because they were highly rated on yelp and listed nearby. They got someone out to me in about a half an hour or so, which was great. Joe showed up and was extremely friendly and seemed very much to know what he was doing. Unfortunately, my door resisted all of his usual techniques and he had to bust out his DeWalt Power Picker, which went through my lock in about 10 seconds (sorry neighbors). He made short work of the lock, got me in, and had it re-keyed about 10 minutes after that. All told, the $150 I spent on that mistake was a lot less than I expected to, and the experience was much less painful that I was planning for. I would definitely use them again. read more

I got an accurate estimate on the time it would take Mike to get here (under an hour), a fair quote on the price to get back-in ($70), get two locks re-keyed ($35 each), and a mailbox lock drilled, replaced and re-keyed ($105 for parts and labor). Most of all had extremely professional service from Mike! Go CUBS Go! This is a far cry from the ripoff and unprofessional service we got a few weeks ago from Locksmith Chicago Inc.!! Took twice as long, costed twice as much and lightly damaged our door...and that was just to get in! My 2 year old locked us out of our flat, and called around for a locksmith. Based on reviews here, I was hesitant, but gave them a chance. I spoke with a lovely woman on the phone who was quite reassuring, told me that they charge 19 dollars to come out and assess the lock, and the labor was 35 dollars and up depending on whether they just had to pick it or drill it. She told me that typically for a regular handle lock it runs 80 dollars. Promised me that their locksmith would call shortly. Like clockwork, Constantine called me and told me that their minimum for lockout was 120 dollars plus labor depending on the lock. Before calling my doorman's recommended locksmith, I called them back to voice concern that the locksmith's numbers where way different then what she quoted, she said his numbers were wrong but that I should never trust anyone who quotes low numbers over the phone. I've just finished having my door unlocked by my doorman's suggestion, he quoted me 125 over the phone and guess what, charged 125. His rate and quote was higher then this place but he was honest, and that's what matters most. I whole heartedly DO NOT recommend this company, do yourself a favor and stick with honest shops. read more

We were literally locked into my condo unit because the door knob mechanism was broken. After trying to take it apart myself, I made it worse and I gave up after 2 hrs because it was completely jammed. I would've had to break the door and frame to do it alone. Ever since we moved in, it's taken us 45 sec + to open our door because our keys were a bad fit for our lock. Today I came home and, after two years, had had enough. I called Chicago Locksmith thinking I'd get on their schedule in a day or two (after all, I'd been waiting two years) but Mykell called me back for same-day appt within five minutes. He kept me aware of his estimated arrival time with a few phone calls which I really appreciated. When he arrived, he said that the only fix was to re-key the lock which he did out in his truck. He explained just what the problem was (and showed me) so that I felt comfortable paying the fee for the procedure. He worked on it for about an hour, so I know this was no small task.
