I am in the process of selling my house and you can imagine the pressure of moving while selling a home. I lost my car keys last Sunday night, I decided to call Chicago locksmith since they had such good ratings on yelp, the representative over the phone was really nice and knowledgeable and was able to send a technician over in about hour, Tom arrived less than an hour later, cut me a key and programmed it to my car for a very reasonable price, considering it was a Sunday night... Andrae was great! He showed up within a couple of hours of my call to replace lock on my apartment mailbox. I had lost my key, so he drilled the lock to open and replaced it, gave me 2 keys. He checked the new one with me a couple of times and adjusted it until I was comfortable with how it opened. All was done very quickly. Price was reasonable, and I had 10% coupon from the company's website. They didn't charge extra to come same day in the evening. My car key fell out of my purse and I was locked out at a grocery store parking lot. I was told on the phone that someone would be there in 15 minutes, but they "couldn't give me a price" to get back into my car. He said he couldn't even give me a range of what to expect just to open a car door. Over an hour goes by, and I'm still there waiting. I told my boyfriend that my phone battery was at 1%, so he called Chicago Locksmiths twice to track down my locksmith. Two people told him "I will check and call you right back," and they never did. The website advertises $19, and when the locksmith finally arrived he tells me it'll be $155. I, like anyone, fight back and say he can go home because the website says $19 and he had two opportunities over the phone to tell me the actual price, and then he says he will "settle" at $50, which leads me to believe he is doing nothing but taking advantage of my situation and trying to benefit from it himself. He likely assumed that once he arrived I would pay whatever he said in order to get into my car. He clearly knew that if he told me $155 over the phone, I would have called someone else and he would have lost the business, so he baited me into waiting for him in hopes I would pay what he said once he got there. You're seriously going to advertise $19 services on your website, yet allow your employees to show up and try to take advantage of people like that? I should never have agreed to give this guy a dime, but I didn't want to inconvenience my boyfriend by having him bring me the spare. read more

Had these guys out twice and both times (re-key two separate locks) they arrived within hours, once during the pandemic. Super efficient and friendly. They responded uber quickly via email and honored their coupons both times, the second time without me asking and/or remembering I had used one for the first visit. Call someone else! Quoted us $35 bucks to come unlock our car and when the tech got to the car he said $135 because it would take such a "long time" to unlock the car. It took the technician 10 min to unlock the car w/ a screwdriver and an airbag. Seriously, not worth the $135, jacking us around. The managers, when you call to discuss issuse, want nothing to do with you. Totally worthless! read more

If there is something that irritates me when I spend money, it would have to be non-transparent pricing practices. Or when a merchant provides deceitful estimates for a requested job. I needed a few locks re-keyed, and found Chicago Locksmith here on Yelp with its register of apparently pleased customers. Not having significant experience with a particular or any locksmiths in Chicago, I trusted the consensus and called Chicago Locksmith to schedule an appointment. I described that I needed several different locks re-keyed. I was impressed by the courteous phone staff and further pleased with their price estimates for the different types of locks I described I needed re-keyed. On the day of our appointment, the locksmith sheepishly arrives nearly past our appointment window time and I welcome him warmly. When we look at the locks that I needed re-keyed, his prices were literally twice the estimates I was initially provided, even though my locks are clearly at or very close to what he described as their "base level" or "basic" lock prices. Their explanation was these were "more complicated" so he charged what appeared to be arbitrarily higher prices. No explanation was ever given by either this locksmith or staff from their office as to exactly what type of locks constitute their "basic" prices and then what type(s) of locks exactly demand premium price increases (for re-keying) and how or why. So, I was stuck either paying their "trip charge" to make them go away and instead trying a more upfront and honest locksmith, or just going with this pathetic company that just baited me and totally reeled me in. They got me because obviously I don't need to go through the hassle of scheduling a completely different locksmith company, so I paid their price which was double the estimate and grumbled all the way to my pathetic box (home). The obvious implications of this experience are that my negative experience would have been avoided if the phone appointment person had been significantly more clear about their pricing methods, also so I could compare apples to apples when calling other locksmiths for estimates. Then when I suggested to one of their customer service representatives that when future customers ask them for an estimate, they should inquire about more details about the locks or work requested, so other customers don't experience the same bait and switch disappointment I had, their staff didn't acknowledge the validity of the suggestion. I guess they intend to continue giving ignorant customers (such as myself) deceitfully low estimates and then guilting the consumers into paying obscene rates once they arrive at the job. When I need locks changed or any locksmith services I am definitely going to try any one of the many other well-reviewed locksmiths in Chicago-land. Or at least one who is completely honest and upfront about their service costs. At least for me, I would rather be given a higher honest estimate for a job than a low intentionally deceitful quote. Too bad because I look forward to being a loyal customer to smaller businesses. Poop. read more

I highly, highly recommend this group. They went above and beyond the call of duty for me. I split time between Seattle and Chicago and was worried about my pipes freezing during the subzero temps. So the technician Tory came to my Lakeview condo in the wee hours of the night while I was gone to not only turn off the main water valve, but waited around to drain all the pipes (kitchen, bathtub, etc...). This is CUSTOMER SERVICE! The first two companies I called denied me saying,"Sorry...we aren't plumbers." I have their number saved in my speed dial just in case I need their help again. I have a multi level buidling in the city and the gated fence lock wouldn't work so my tenants couldn't use it to enter or leave and left it open. I called in on Sat morning and within ten minutes received a call from technician Tory and told me he would finish up another job up north and call me back. He did within less than an hour, came out and during this cold weather ( wind chill brutal) proceeded to repair the lock. Tory worked his magic and saved my lock so I wouldn't have to replace keys for all my tenants and charged a very reasonable fee. I would recommend this company to all my friends for any lock issues . I called Chicago Locksmith because my husband found an old "club" in the garage. The club goes over the steering wheel and locks it in place not allowing it to be driven if the car is stolen. It was the weeknd and we were cleaning out the garage. He placed the car on the street and decided to use the club. On Monday he went outside to go to work and couldn't remember where he put the key to unlock the club. I called other companies. They were rude and wouldn't give me a timeframes.I called Chicago Locksmith, I'm so glad I did. They we friendly, lowest price and there to remove the club quickly. I'll be using them again. I locked myself out of my bedroom- where my phone was charging. I called Chicago Locksmiths (through my laptop..) and in less than 1/2 an hour John Rios was at my door. He was very professional, and got me in fast. Further, he made the time to install a new doorknob in my bedroom door with a working key. The whole process from call to new key took less than an hour.
