I'm surprised by the impressive Yelp rating for Chicago Locksmith - it's why I chose them. Unfortunately, my experience has been poor. I was just looking to get some locks re-keyed. My first appointment window came and went with the technician reaching out after the window had passed. I figured one mistake and rescheduled. This time the technician was on time and I was satisfied. I decided to schedule them for another job. And again, they don't show up in the scheduled 2 hour window. This time, I got a call saying the technician might be up to an hour late. I said fine. That time came and went. I had now wasted 3 hours of my afternoon waiting. I called and the receptionist said he would probably be ANOTHER hour. I said no thanks. In summary, 2 of 3 appointments they did not make the scheduled window. I will not have my time wasted by them anymore. If you value your time and people showing up when they say, then I'd look elsewhere. read more

I always see this place on my daily commute on Milwaukee Ave. Bright and friendly storefront caught my eye quickly. Convenient that they're open early like 8/9am. Greeted by a very friendly and helpful employee Francisco. Prices are very great. Since I already bought a blank on eBay, he not only duplicated my motorcycle key for only 50 cents, he explained to me what the serial number on my motorcycle key represented. He even explained that I should take a picture of my key and in the case I ever lost it, I could get an original OEM key from the manufacturer with that serial number. Very insightful, articulate, and professional. Will be back soon. It's interactions like these that I'm glad I didn't use an app a friend recommended that mailed you duplicated keys. Going in-store was much quicker, cheaper, and a better experience. Never going back to Home Depot. read more

Chicago locksmiths has some of the nicest people working for them. They need to get their communications straightened out, but luckily, the wait for them was worth it. Nathan was quick, efficient and talented. He worked out our problem even though we had communication glitches along the way. *Be warned: their phone calls all come up as "Spam Risk" and then when I picked up the phone, it was in the middle of a recording that said "...your call will be recorded..." etc. so I just kept hanging up on them. After calling to see why when I was next in line, I had not heard from anyone, I discovered that all the Spam Risk calls I had that day where them calling me (they shrugged this off) and this, after they had been calling me on the wrong number for part of the day. I had to sit for hours for them however, they are incredibly nice and efficient, came same day and even though Nathan had to drive back to his office to get a part for us, he did so cheerfully and eagerly and returned to finish the job. We really needed it, so I'm grateful. I do wish they would figure out some better way to conduct their phone business. read more

I don't recommend locking yourself out of your ancient apartment with your hungry dog at dinnertime and when you are dead broke during the coronavirus, but if you do, I HIGHLY recommend Nathan and Chicago Locksmiths to save you from yourself. From phone call/quote to arrival was less than a half an hour, and Nathan was not only super careful re: corona protocol but so kind and pleasant and talked me through what he was doing and the options. In a series of unfortunate events, my room mate accidentally locked me out yesterday on a Friday evening. I tried the bobby pin thing you see in movies to try and get in, but of course that didn't work. Luckily, I remembered (thank god) that I live two blocks away from Chicago Locksmiths. I had no phone, no keys, no wallet. From the beginning, Stephanie and Melissa were very understanding and kind and let me know from the beginning that my wait time would be longer than usual. They explained to me that it would be best I wait in the store and little by little they would be able to give me ETA updates on when a technician would be available. An hour went by and I sat up front alone, but both ladies checked in on me periodically, offered me water and snacks, and befriended me and treated me like the little wounded fawn that I was. Their kindness was above and beyond customer service that wasn't even necessary. I was even able to reach my room mate via telephone and did not end up needing a technician after all, but their service left a big impression on me. Though I do get my keys cut here and this was not my first time at Chicago Locksmiths, I highly recommend their level of expertise and professionalism in any service they provide. We had a new security system and a new smart lock, which needed a rekey. I was quoted the following "Standard rekeys are $45 each as long as you have a working key. If you do not have working keys it is $55 per standard lock rekey and it is not always guaranteed." We have a working key, but somehow I was charged $150. There was no mention of additional charges, the tech just showed up and started doing work. At the end of the work, I was just handed a bill of $150. I purposely chose Chicago locksmiths because I needed a simple rekey and I thought I was getting a reasonable price. I would look elsewhere or at least ask about hidden fees. read more

On hold for 20 minutes and tried calling back. Just to be put on hold again and I can't even get a word out. Also 20 minutes of there exact same message: "thank you for calling Chicago locksmith your trusted blah blah blah" will drive anyone mad. If people are waiting this long, they should have some sort of music playing instead of the same prompt message over and over and over! I wanted to give this place my service, but the people answering the phone can't even let me get a word out before throwing me on hold again. It also said I was next in line both times yet I waited forever and wasted time. Went there because my car key was a little bent, so it was hard to start the car. With Chicago frigid winters the last thing I wanted was for the key to break off in the ignition. I went in there and everyone was so nice. Walter helped me. I was told to pull the car to the back and in less then 10 minutes I had a duplicate key programed and everything at almost half the price I was quoted anywhere else.
