The owner of the company reached out to me almost immediately to apologize for the situation and make it right. I appreciate this gesture. It shows they care about customer service. I called Chicago Locksmiths when I was locked out of my house after the door accidentally slammed behind me when I stepped out to grab my mail. The dispatcher was very understanding of my situation and said someone would call me within five minutes to let me know the ETA which would be around 20 minutes. I have a special needs dog and he was in the house still in his wheelchair as we had just gotten home so I was very worried. Given this I called another company as well because I didn't want to risk his safety and well-being in case there was an issue. That company called me back within five minutes with a 35 minute ETA. Since the Chicago Locksmith dispatcher told me 20 minutes I cancelled the other locksmith. I didn't hear from Chicago Locksmiths so I called the number back. The phone rang and rang and said I was the next caller but no one ever picked up. After multiple calls, I called another company who came in 15 minutes. It wasn't until 9:41 pm that I finally heard from someone to "confirm" they were coming. The original call was at 8:28pm. Do not rely on this company if you are in a bind. read more

Fantastic experience! We had an emergency need arise relating to our front door pop up in the early evening and I did not think we would be able to schedule an appointment until the following day. I submitted a request via Yelp and received a response and quote back within a minute. They were also able to send someone (Skyler) over that same night. On site, Skyler quickly identified the issue and thoroughly explained (incl. pros & cons) on our options in regards to working through a repair or total replacement. I needed my house keys copied. Normally, I'd go to Home Depot or Menards since it's cheap and easy since I'm getting other stuff anyway. This time around, I went to Menards. My location no longer has a human cutting keys, just some weird robot machine. Of course, I was psyched about this machine because I figured it'd be quick, cheap, and amazing since I didn't have to talk to anyone. WRONG. Each key that I made did NOT work in my locks. WTF. Enter Chicago Locksmiths. Naturally, I Yelped the best-rated locations of locksmiths and Chicago Locksmiths came up #1. I was worried it'd be expensive but, since I'd already spent money for literally nothing, I figured nothing could be worse. My experience was far from terrible! Chicago Locksmiths is open every day of the week until at least 8 p.m. I showed up and no other customers were around so I was helped right away. The guy who took my keys looked at my house key and realized it was a bit "weird" so he had to cut a key twice just to get a good copy. I was so glad he actually scrutinized and did the work over again since the copy he made worked perfectly. I was totally happy with the copies I got since they all worked in my locks. I also happened to ask about mailbox keys since I needed mine copied, as well, but Chicago Locksmiths couldn't do it because it was a weird key. I was disappointed but the guy then explained that I could change my mailbox lock super easily and he'd copy the keys for me for free (for buying the lock). I was apprehensive since it seemed like a lot of work for a person (me) who knows how to do nothing handy, but he assured me it would be easy and so I went for buying a new lock. He threw in three copies of the new key for free since I was already paying for other stuff anyway and I went on my way. I paid about $18 total for my key copies and the new mailbox lock. Good deal. The mailbox lock ended up not being that hard to install myself and I had three shiny new keys that worked in the new lock, courtesy of the nice guy at Chicago Locksmiths. I've come back here once since my first visit and I've been equally satisfied. The copies of my keys have been perfect and I've had no issues opening anything (which is not the case with keys I've had copied at big box stores). Yes, Chicago Locksmiths charges like $.50 more per key copy than a big box store but that extra money is worth the stop here to work with a knowledgeable locksmith. read more

Great service, on time, and a job done right. I was scheduled quickly for the following day after contacting them via phone. Stephen the locksmith called a day before and the day of to confirm the time. We ended pushing up the appointment by 30 minutes which worked for both parties. Communication was key and they nailed it. Stephen did a thorough job in execution and explaining what needed to be done to re-key the locks for a new tenant. No need for new hardware. All five locks were changed within about one hour and as a bonus a single key works for all the doors, simple. Each re-key ran $30 a lock and a service fee of $40 for the house call. Mention Yelp and you get 10% the total bill. Job well done. read more

Called for a locksmith and was told the price would be $100 and an hour wait to get inside my car after almost 2 hours hours the driver calls me, he had a hard time finding the address which was reasonable since the entrance was small and close to an intersection, but what was off putting was the fact that he was getting frustrated over the phone with me and right before he actually found the place he said "well I don't know what to tell you, I cant help you" in a condescending tone. I almost had to plead with him to not leave me hanging He did the wirehanger through the door trick to open my door and somehow my bill jumped to $128 with a $4 service fee for using a credit card (total $132), I don't know if the extra $28 was a getting lost frustration fee TL:DR $132 and 2 hour wait for this service, if you can find someone with better rates I would use them Edit: 3/28/14 from 2 to 4 stars after I left this review Chicagoland locksmiths reached out to me and helped clear up the overcharges from the past service I had, they were very helpful in rectifying the situation and showed that they care about retaining customers. I immediately contacted them and the support staff noted my case and informed a technician from an 800 number will contact me very soon. Yelp showed a response time of 10 minutes. And then I waited, and waited. There were no follow up calls. Once I realized in 30 minutes they will be a no show, I immediately found another business nearby who was at my door within 20 minutes (I've reviewed them too on Yelp).
