I am SOOOO late on writing this review! And I'm sad because looking at the bil the guys name who came out (he wore glasses) isn't on here so I can thank him personally! Anyways, as the spaz I am I had gone to take my dog out and realized I had no key. I called Chicago Locksmith immedietly as I knew sometimes it takes awhile for a locksmith to come out, especially if they have lots of other calls and are on the opposite end of the city. I gave them my info and let them know that I am in a time crunch due to a morning meeting I had to make and was still fresh from the shower and in my pajamas. About 15 minutes later the nice gentleman called me and let me know he would be on his way soon and I relayed to him I was on a crunch and to please call me when he was about 10 away. He did and showed up as scheduled and got me in my place in literally under 3 minutes! I am so greatful and appreciative of their quick service and wonderful locksmiths! He was very professional and courteous, and cut off the lock without damaging my bike, which was a feat because the lock was in an awkward position in the first place. He was also fast. I am surprised by the high Yelp rating- it is why I chose them as well. The technician missed the 45 min appointment window by a lot- my husband and I waited close to two hours. I questioned why my husband kept wanting to wait for them. We were quoted a different range of fees on the phone as well. When the technician finally showed up, he off the the bat--His attitude is poor and combative which did not sit well with me considering we waited so long for him to begin with. We ended up going with a different company and didn't mind paying more. We just needed transparency and respect for our time, which Chicago Locksmith cannot provide. read more

After traveling all day, I came home to my lock not turning upon inserting the key, again. This time, the maintenance man couldn't jimmy the door open. Boo! So I sit in the hallway with groceries and luggage looking on Yelp for a locksmith. I checked Yelp and opted for Chicago Locksmiths. I got a quote, called a few other places, and opted for Chicago Locksmiths. I phoned them back and they said they'd send a technician over shortly. A few minutes later, Gabriel called me and said he'll be over in 20-25 minutes. Sure enough, he arrived within the time. He talked me through what he suspected the problem was, how to fix it, the tools he was using, and what our options were. I kept asking if he could wait to do anything big because I was communicating with my landlord in real time to make sure costs and everything that was being done is okay. In the end, Gabriel got me in as soon as possible. He took extra time to make sure everything was in its place and working correctly. I super appreciate is friendliness and attention to detail and doing it right. I was even able to pay via credit card and received a digital receipt. I cannot recommend Chicago Locksmiths enough. My review includes delays, threats, and cops. The summary: don't use Chicago locksmiths services. They are not punctual rude scammers and liars. The review: the tech was late, arrived with wrong blank key, tried to force me to agree to use the wrong key for the same price, then called the cops to force me to pay "cancellation" fee. Stay away from this company. The story: I lost the only car key I had, and car dealership suggested to find locksmith. I found Chicago locksmiths online and decided to call them after seeing all those good reviews on yelp. Called Chicago locksmiths on Friday and everything seemed normal: yes they do car keys, yes they can do a key even if I don't have any, and yes the key will include the remote. Final yes, $290 quote includes everything - blank key price and technician on-site. Moreover, they told me they can do it the same day and that the technician will call me about the time. Initially they told me it will be around 4pm. 4pm had passed, no tech call. After several calls to the Chicago locksmiths reps and after about 4 or 5 hours of waiting it finally got moved to Saturday 11am because tech "got stuck at another project". Very professional. On Saturday morning I received a call from tech and we agreed to meet at 12pm - already a delay. I arrived to on-site at 12pm and, of course, the tech was not there. After waiting for 30 minutes and after a call to the Chicago locksmiths and after waiting for 15 minutes more the tech arrived. Finally, I thought. Well, the story is just starting: after checking my driver's license and car registration (which he took to his car to make copies) he looked at the locked car and he told me he doesn't have the blank key with remote. After that he showed me the blank key without the remote, but, apparently, his blank will cost the same $290 for everything because he has "high security" blank without remote which costs the same as "normal security" with the remote. BUT, he told me, I should not care about "some buttons". All I should care about is "to get the key and drive away". Basically he tried to frame the situation as urgent and constrained to force me to agree to his terms. I have to say that his communication style was very unpleasant and insolent - I have never been treated like that before. Anyway. I told him I agreed to pay the steep $290 price for the key with remote. I said I don't agree to him making the key without the remote for the same price. All this looked like he (or rather Chicago locksmiths) is trying to take advantage of my situation - that I don't have a key from the car and I need it. During the call with customer representative I provided all the information about the car, but the technician came over unprepared with the wrong key. Or they did not have the correct blank key at all and just tried to scam me to get the key they had at the moment. He called his office. The customer rep. called me and tried to persuade me that I should agree to the changed terms. After I refused they just hung up on me - nice customer service. Now, because the scam was falling apart, he told me I owe him $40 "cancellation" fee. Really? He could not provide the service we agreed upon, and I refused the service he was trying to impose. He also told me that during my initial call (which was recorded) I should have agreed to $40 cancellation fee. I told him: first - no, there was not a single word about cancellation fee, second - even if they have this cancellation fee I am not going to pay it because it is not my fault the service got cancelled. He calls his office again and in the conversation calls me a scumbag intentionally loud so I can hear it. Nice tech :) I requested that my driver's license and registration should be returned. Instead he threatened to call the cops because I refuse to pay the $40 cancellation fee. I told him to go ahead, I am calling the cops too because he refuses to return my driver's license and registration. We both called 911, two police cars arrived in minutes. We told the cops our stories. Cops told us they could not force me to pay $40 cancellation fee I have never agreed to. So they made a "civil dispute" police report about the incident, provided us with the report number, and I received my driver's license and registration back. I found another locksmith company which was able to make the correct key the same day (Saturday) without any problems. read more

I was in the neighborhood and needed some copies made so I walked over to Chicago Locksmiths. The woman working was super helpful and had the copies cut in less than five minutes. When I went to pay for the copies, I realized I left my debit card over at Logan Bar and Grill. I told her I'd be right back to pay for the 2 copies, but she gave me the keys on the house. I had a problem with my driver's side car door lock. I was not able to open the door manually when inserting the key in the lock even though I had a functioning fob key. When I inquired over the phone, they thought it might need a new cylinder lock which would range from $75.00 to $175.00 depending upon whether the door panel had to be removed. As it turned out, it was simply a tumbler in the lock that had to be readjusted. The charge was $31 and a few cents. Jordan spent nearly an hour performing surgical like repairs. I told him that the $31.00 charge was too little and I told him to add an extra $25.00. I am almost certain that if I had gone any where else, they would have "taken me for a ride" and charged me close to $200 or more. Excellent, professional service with integrity and honesty. After accidentally locking my keys in my car just before heading to my weekly performance gig, a family member came to the rescue with our one spare key in the nick of time, thankfully. But I knew I needed to make ANOTHER spare key to keep on hand myself for future times when my family isn't answering their phones! So I headed to Ace Hardware to get my car key copied, but unfortunately they didn't have the right part in stock, so they recommended I go to Chicago Locksmiths down the street in Logan Square. Not only was the clerk at Chicago Locksmiths (sorry I didn't catch your name on Saturday, 7/14!) super friendly, but once he made the key, he said since he noticed some slight differences between it and the original, that I ought to carefully test it in my car door, and if it didn't work, to NOT turn the key, let alone put it in the ignition. He was really concerned that the key would work, but since I was parked several blocks away, he took no payment from me, but said to only come back if the key didn't work. What a nice guy! Even better, the key did work, so I didn't go back in, but wanted to make sure to thank him somehow by letting others know what a helpful person and good locksmith he is! Highly recommended. read more
