1. I had 2 beds, 1 couch, 1 loveseat, a dresser, a chest, a small organizer, and a night stand. My apologies for the miscount there people. It was 8 pieces of furniture. 2. I never said it was a 2nd to 2nd floor! Danny you're more than aware I made it clear that I was going from the 2nd to the 3rd floor because we discussed the couch being hoisted up to the 3rd floor before you agreed to the services. It's ridiculous as an owner you would lie about that. Note to self: get your information in writing if you all ever use this company because going by phone allows this kind of foolishness. 3. Danny I never told you that furniture would be disassembled. I'm a woman and mom of 2. That was never ever ever discussed. Again, another false narrative. My bed is a normal sized queen mattress. What is the purpose of you emphasizing "Big?" It doesn't even have a box spring. The bunk bed is only one bed as the top and bottom are not connected. I can provide pics for that as well! I wouldn't dare make this stuff up. My point was that I had that plus more furniture that needed to be put together before by 2 men and a truck and it was done in 2.5 hours with an actual commute. Your movers were driving a millisecond around the corner is my only point. 4. On the phone I informed you that I wanted only shrink wrap for the one couch that would be hoisted and you agreed. I informed you that the mattresses didn't need to be wrapped as they are all covered in mattress covers and you said that would be fine as you all still use your own comforters. You never communicated this information with Nebor and the other 2 men so they didn't know and I'm no professional mover so naturally I don't know what to tell them not to do. That's an expectation from the boss for them to know what work they are doing. Giving the customer something they didn't ask for is never the customers issue. 5. You quoted me for 2.5 hours and I agreed. I knew it could be done in that time based on my previous move 5 months ago as I had more furniture before and many boxes. You informed that it would be 3 men for $115/hour plus the $10 in shrink wrap and the $115 truck fee. That's still $412.50. I was specific about all of the pieces I had and u informed that it would be that hourly rate and that they shouldn't exceed 3 hours and u informed me that if they exceeded the 2.5 hour rate, I would be charged in 30 minute increments. That was fine! I initially said in the post that I expected to pay $500 before the $120 cash tip. Again, get your information in writing people if using Danny. 6. Yes you charged a $50 fee for hoisting but that again is not my issue. I asked you about hoisting and you informed me of the cost and I said "Ok cool"... not sure why that was mentioned as if I named my own price for that. 7. I never mentioned your workers not doing a good job so that point was highly irrelevant. There is a scrap on my wall from the couch being brought in but nothing I care to make a big deal about either. I can provide pics for this as well. 8. My real complaint was the cost and the time! I wasn't expecting a full refund at all! I was willing to pay $500 plus a tip but to pay almost $700 just for those pieces of furniture was completely foul and you know it Danny because you even told my friend that referred me that they should have been finished before 3.5 hours. 9. It's very poor business practice when you take no accountability. That's why you have lost me as a client, my friend whose is moving this week as a client, and 4 others that I referred to you that are moving in June. It was never about the money after the fact. I've hired Chicago Marathon Movers on two separate occasions now. This review is definitely long overdue (my bad, I forgot to write one). I first requested a quote back in June 2019 for my partner to move their belongings to our apartment from Pilsen to Ravenswood. Marie was the quickest of the 5 companies to respond to me with a quote and availability. From there, the guys showed up at said time, was super professional and friendly, and they got the job done. Nothing was damaged in the process, and since the move was with 2 guys, they allowed me to ride with them in the truck because I didn't have a car at the time. After that positive experience, my partner and I needed to move once again in May 2021 after purchasing our condo in Oak Lawn. I naturally said we need to reach out to Chicago Marathon Movers again via Yelp's Request a Quote to see if they're available and can accommodate us. I was so happy to hear they'd be down to move us from Ravenswood to Oak Lawn. We got really lucky because we're basically at the cut off of the city limits that they're willing to travel to. One of the 3 guys who moved us last May actually moved us the first time, and he remembered us. They were all super professional and efficient, despite having the initial walk up to our 3rd floor apartment, and the final leg was easier since our condo building has an elevator to help with transporting items. This time around the experience is just as great as the first time, and once again, nothing was damaged. I really appreciate Danny, Marie, and the entire team at Chicago Marathon Movers for making our 2 moves efficient and stress free. I'd recommend them to anyone in the area looking for a moving company. They're family owned and have been around for years, are experienced and professional, and more importantly, they'll take care of you. read more

To start off, thank you Juan, Alec, and Erwin for being a great moving crew! I had to hire a moving company last minute (day before the move) and they were able to accommodate me into their schedule. They showed up in the 30 minute window I was given and were communicating each step of the way. When I greeted the team they all had masks on and introduced themselves to me while keeping social distancing. I'd not seen a moving crew move as quickly as they did and they were very careful with everything. Very professional and clearly experienced. They accommodated everything at the storage unit (the destination). They made sure I did a final check on all the items and their truck. Price was very reasonable, I wasn't hit with any fees or "surge pricing" like other companies do. They keep the customer's best interest in mind for sure. I had the marathon movers come out because my original mover recommended them since they were running late. I paid them and tipped all three movers $20 each. I asked them to come back the next day and they did. I had gone to the ATM and gotten $400 in cash to pay them. My purse was on the counter. At the end of the day, when it was time to pay, there was $240 missing from my wallet. I said someone took my money... the next words from the guy was.. can you pay by zelle. I called the police and filed a report. The police came and they denied taking the money. I told the police I wasn't paying them anymore money. They can take it up in claims court. I have worked in IDOC and know a con when I see it. So they left but continued to text me telling me what a bad person I am. I would not recommend this company at all. read more

We had a bit of a scheduling conflict. I was set to move June 1 and was called about 20 minutes beforehand telling me there was nobody to move me because they were overbooked. It was a bit frustrating on my end when you only have one day to move. I luckily was able to extend one more night in my apartment with a fee that Danny agreed to cover for the inconvenience! He got a crew out to me first thing the next day. Nelson, Rob and Jesus were so friendly and very hardworking. We moved from a third floor to a third floor in the same building (without an elevator) and they were so speedy, it was amazing. They did a great job and I appreciated how polite they were to us! Life-savers!! Yesterday, I had a Windy City Helpers scheduled to move me at 1pm. They didn't call the day before, they didn't confirm morning of, didn't respond to any texts or calls and of course never reached out. I was scrambling that morning and reached out to Marathon Movers. Right away, they were able to accommodate me within the timeframe I was hoping for. Nathan and Pi were phenomenal! They are quick and efficient and made sure to make most of their time. They were accommodating by making a pit stop to drop off furniture before my destination. To make a stressful move and service quick. The movers were 1hour and 30 minutes late, with no explanation. throughout their tardiness. After 40 minutes of not hearing from them, all they can say is that they were 30 minutes away. Finally after their arrival, I had personally made 3 trips to the new apartment, because I was on a building schedule and had a time window to do so. After all of those frustrations, the greatest disappointment was when it came time for the payment. I was quoted $450 for the entire move which was .50 miles away. They ended up charging me $650, after showing up late and moving less than they had to, because I had moved some on my own. These guys were great! Super efficient and friendly - got the job done quickly. Pricing was very reasonable and straightforward. I did confirm with them via email twice before our scheduled day to make sure we were set and they replied promptly and assured me they would be there. Everything arrived at our new apartment in one piece and they were able to carefully get some difficult items through tough doorways, small elevators, etc. Nelson, Riff and Alex themselves were awesome. Taking off a star because there was a bit of confusion on the morning of the move and it sounds like the movers were dispatched elsewhere, and then had to turn around and come to my location which caused them to be quite late. I called their phone number several times to get updates and it seemed to me like the dispatcher was the one who screwed up. I'm not sure what would have happened if I did not stay persistent calling the phone number asking for updates. My move date was 8/5/19. My rating is not based on the damage to a couple of pieces of furniture, but it's based in the owner's response to it. The 2 young men were professional and worked extremely hard. I expected that there could be damage to my furniture, but i didn't expect the owner to throw the movers under the bus. From telling me they were trying to keep the money, to the fact that they may both be fired, to saying he didn't know what he would do for the damage to completely low-balling me on the repairs. It took 3 weeks for a resolution because he went days without responding and I ended up accepting what he offered because i feared he wouldn't do anything. Note, this review is more about our experience with the owner Danny rather than the movers themselves. The movers were amazing and very professional. Alberto and Edwin were the two that loaded the truck initially with Adam joining them for the unloading. They were excellent and understanding and shared with the frustrations I had with the move. We had a 10/10:30 scheduled time for 3 movers, truck filling up 10x15x8 storage unit. I was informed that I'll get a call 30 to 40 min prior letting me know the movers are on their way. At 10:15, when I had yet to still hear from them, I called for an update. Call was picked up by Danny (owner) and he knew it were me. He informed me that they had workers call out in the morning and were struggling to find workers to complete the move. He said they are working on it and it looks promising. I asked for a call back in 30 min with an update. I called back again at 10:45 and was informed that they could only get 2 movers but he felt that will be sufficient for my size and move. I was also told movers are gathering now and should get a call from them in 30 min or so with an ETA. Finally got a call at 11:45 that they are 45 min away and ensured we would get the move completed on time. I was nervous because the building we were moving to has strict guidelines where the move must complete by 5 pm (for which we reserved the freight elevator from 1 to 5 pm). I had informed Danny of this concern as well and he assured me that it shouldn't be a problem. I had also mentioned that the building charges a penalty fee any time the move goes past 5 PM. Half-way into loading the truck from the storage unit, the movers start to realize the truck may be small. I also find out that Danny sent a 16 feet truck when I was clear with my communication with Marie (during booking the move) that it's a full storage unit of 10x15x8. Marie also confirmed she updated the reservation and would make sure Danny saw it. It now takes more time as the movers are trying to redo the loading to max out every space in the truck. 3 hours later, the truck is completely full and I still have a few things left in storage. With no way to get it all to fix, the movers and I decide to drive to city to unload the truck, and that I would talk to Danny about the rest of the stuff. Note, by now it's already 4:30 PM and we were supposed to have the move completed by 5 PM to avoid building penalties. We get to the building at 530 pm (already past what was allowed by the building) and find out the 3rd person Danny had sent (to help complete the move quicker) had been waiting around for 3 hours. He did not have his cell phone on him so had no way to be communicated - hopefully he is still compensated for his time commitment. The move at building was very quick and efficient. The movers were respectful of our unit and our items. The move finally finished at 730 pm. That's 2.5 hours past what was allowed, which means I had to pay extra moving fees to the building. On my way to the city, I called Danny to figure out next steps since my move will eventually be half complete and needed him to provide options for how I move the rest of the stuff that did not fit. Danny mentioned he can provide the 2nd move (for remaining items) at cost because he can't completely eat the costs. I felt it was unfair to ask a customer to pay for a move when the reason we had the 2nd move was bc he sent a smaller truck for no good reason. I don't hold against him that his employees called out sick (though as a business owner I would expect him to have contingencies in place as it's likely a common scenario considering the business runs 100% on manual labor and the current health conditions,). He went into a long explanation about how it's difficult finding employees right now even though I didn't ask about that and I mentioned numerous times I get it that it's hard to find employees. I tried explaining that I will have to pay extra to building for the delayed move and the potential 2nd moving fee since I have to reserve the freight elevator again. His choice of words were 'that's not my problem'. I agreed that it is not his problem but when he is asking for empathy b/c he needs to cover costs, he should recognize there's cost associated for customers as well. I pleaded it's not fair for me to consider his costs but for him to not consider mine. Finally he got frustrated and stated he is missing his kid's soccer game and that he doesn't have time for this with all he can do is provide at cost move. He refused to show empathy that I missed time w/ my family but asking for mine. He charged me at cost for 2nd move which included gas and maintenance of his truck. I would recommend MM if Danny bothered showed empathy n accepted blame for sending a smaller truck, rather than blaming me. Not once did he apologize for the stress and headache. Hope he shows more empathy in future to other customers that end up w/ stressful moves. read more

While moving my daughter, the driver of their junky truck hit my car while trying to back up in the alley. He didn't really think much of it even though he scratched up my fender of my new car. He told me to file a claim and complaint with the owner. I tried doing that and then the driver denied that he hit my car and the owner backed him up. I even had a witness. Despite the affordable rates, I was pretty disappointed in my move with Chicago Marathon Movers.The owner, Daniel Rodriguez, is unprofessional and a liar who is unable to take any responsibility for his lying employee's actions. The first lie was that they "had the wrong number" so when they called me at 8:30am to confirm they were on their way, I of course didn't answer, because, well, it was the wrong number. The lie here is that I had called Daniel 3-4 times prior to my move to confirm the move and other details, so he had my number from those 3-4 phone calls alone. To top that lie off, I also called Daniel at 8:45am after I was getting a little concerned where the movers were since I hadn't heard from them, and he didn't answer his cellphone. When he called me back about five minutes later, he said the movers tried to call me but had the wrong number and now they were already on their way to a different moving job, and they would be available to move my stuff in maybe 3-4 hours... There was no apology and no ownership of the "wrong number" mistake-- Daniel actually blamed it on the woman from a different company who referred his business to us... Regardless, how is it possible that within the 20 minutes they called the wrong number and I heard back from Daniel, they were already on to another job and were unable to come back and move me first? Lie #2 is the following statement on their website: "If you are looking for a certified and insured moving company you can trust, Marathon Movers is the right choice for you." This is because one of Daniel's equally unprofessional and lying employees, Nathan, backed the moving truck into my dad's new car, causing some minor damage, but still, it caused damage. Immediately, Nathan denied he backed into my dad's car, even though my mom, my dad, and the other mover, Rick (who I just want to give props to, because he did his job and did do it well), were all standing there and observed him do exactly that. Then at the end of the move, Nathan changed his tune and asked my dad if his car was okay... My dad said there was minor damage and then Nathan said to contact Daniel regarding filing an insurance claim. We still tipped both Rick AND Nathan $100 each by the way. So on Monday, two days after my move, I contacted Daniel first and he immediately declared that Nathan had already let him know that he DIDN'T hit the car and that he had to go with what Nathan said, for what legitimate reason for that, we do not know. He then proceeded to tell me he had to get off the phone because he was "busy" and asked me to call him back later. Then after him dodging two text messages regarding the insurance info, and a phone call from my mom as well, my dad called him and Daniel still said he had to go with Nathan denying that he hit the car, but then still gave him the company's insurance information. Anyway, needless to say, it's been nearly a month now and after several calls from the insurance company to get Marathon Movers' side of the very real fender bender that occurred on May 29, 2021, they have yet to receive any sort of response from Daniel, thus my dad is screwed and has to cover the cost of the damage himself. So the question is, how can they tote being a certified and insured moving company you can trust when an employee and the OWNER straight up lie about series of events, and then dodge calls from State Farm because they don't want to be truthful and deal with the insurance they proudly assure you they have? All I'm saying is, if you go with this company to move your belongings, you better hope nothing goes wrong or gets damaged because Chicago Marathon Movers isn't about to act like the certified and insured moving company that they claim to be and help you out. You'll be better off getting some friends and a U-Haul to help you at that point! read more

Our family from Chicago to Sacramento and it did not go well.  We had quite a lot of damage to the home and were to leave hours after the guys emptied the house.  instead, we ended up returning the next day to spend our 20th wedding anniversary scrubbing dirt out of carpet tracked in from the roof deck and trying to patch, sand and paint wall damage. A banister rail was also broken off and our dresser damaged beyond repair.  I've attached a few pictures, although I was so upset that I forgot to take pics of most of the damage.  Those dreadful blue blankets that they use to wrap items leave big blue marks all over the walls.  Seeing movers carry my fine china and crystal "fragile" boxes double-decker style behind their backs and down stairs was also not very reassuring. Unfortunately, the damage was NOT the worst part of our move.   I can certainly understand a misjudgment over what will fit in a track.  No one can predict that perfectly.  However, this miss was so large that it was beyond any realm of reasonability.  As the guys were loading, I asked and was told it should fit, but it'll be close.  Again, a small miss is not something I'd complain about.  We went out to buy ourselves and the movers lunch and when we returned, we were told they were done. But we still have TWO BEDROOMS, part of an office and TWO PATIO SETS to go!  In a four-bedroom home, that is quite a huge miss.  Also, considering we already sent two pods ahead on our own, I was not expecting this.  At this point, my husband and I went into emergency mode, desperately searching for pods.  It cost us about $3,000 more than expected and the pods are taking THREE WEEKS to arrive in CA.  The worst part is that we didn't even get to prioritize what goes in the truck and what goes in the darn pods.  "It should all fit" is what we were told up until we returned with lunch.  We're here in CA and my children have no beds and no bedding.  We have no flatware, no vacuum, no broom etc.  My husband and I have no docking stations for work, no monitors, no office chairs.  My husband has no desk.  Our basic necessities are stuck in pods, slowly making their way across the country, but I have items such as garden statues and bins of holiday decorations here. I would expect the movers to not damage our property or at least show some kind of remorse or offer to repair after doing so.  These folks couldn't even figure out they should take the drawers out of dresser in order to maneuver it down the stairs, I had to mention that clue.  After removing the drawers, they didn't bother to re-wrap the dresser and just bashed the bleep out of it.  The dresser, kept pristine for 19 years, now is a piece of junk. Someone should have given a clue that a 4-bedroom home was never going to fit in that truck.  Once that was missed, somewhere along the process, someone should have been able to figure out the stuff wasn't even close to fitting and should have allowed us to prioritize.  As it was we got "do you want this piece or that piece" at the bitter end and that was it. I see your claim that you told my husband the truck was insufficient. That is incorrect! What went well? Your guys were friendly and did not drop my China. The actual move is not the problem (that was five stars). The problem was two-fold; the lead mover, Jerry, did not wear a mask and they lost a box with some of my office equipment in it. Lots of excuses were made but never an offer to resolve my loss. I selected an insured moving company to protect against damage or loss, but was told their insurance is crap and doesn't really cover anything. As a consumer, I have a huge problem with this misrepresentation. I should have gone with a more expensive company. Now, I have to replace items from that box that is important to my job. We recently hired Marathon Movers for the second time and were once again very happy with our decision. We had a very easy time securing our date and confirming all details through Marlin. No deposit was required, which was nice, and communication was easy. We also had to make a last minute change to our move date and Marlin accommodated us without any issue or penalty. He was very responsive. Jerry, Gio and Rob were our moving team. They had a great attitude throughout our move and they were kind and efficient. Many heavy and fragile boxes and pieces of furniture were successfully moved without any broken items. We moved into new construction and I was very concerned about our new floors and carpet. They did not have enough blankets to lay down initially, but did make a concerted effort to use them as they became available once they were removed from our furniture that came off the truck. Gio was ESPECIALLY amazing - taking his shoes off constantly with a smile on his face every time. We did end up with a noticeable scratch on our new wood floor near the sliding door going out to our front porch, which I think may have resulted from them moving our grill across the floor through those doors. That is my only complaint, but overall, it was excellent work and I still wouldn't hesitate to hire them again. read more

After reaching out to several companies that talked about containers and multi-week timelines, Danny assured me they could do it quickly and efficiently with the same team. I had to move my one bedroom apartment from Elk Grove Village to Rolling Meadows and I had a friend recommend Marathon to me as he was one of the friends of the owner. Thank you to the Masso twins for recommending such great, affordable, and prompt service! Juan and Jason were so quick to move everything out of my one bedroom and into my new place. They were done within 3 hours like I had anticipated it taking! I had used a different moving company to move into my previous place and they were late to arrive to my place even though I was the "first call of the day". Ultimately stuck in rush hour traffic after being late to my place so it added on even more time (and more money out of my pocket)! I have used Chicago Marathon Movers for my last 4 moves and as long as I live in Chicago I will not use anyone else. Nathan and Rick are true professionals. You wanna know how I know this? Within 5 seconds of entering the apartment, I'm moving out of they pinpointed an object of mine they could use to prop the doors open. That kind of quick and efficient thinking only comes from years of experience. I had about 10 large boxes, a bed/frame, a marble table, 2 chairs, a coffee table, a tv stand, and a 55" TV. While that isn't a huge move it's still incredibly impressive they got everything in the truck in less than 45 minutes from 2 flights of stairs without an elevator. I had them throw out my couch when I moved and them quickly being able to remove a large steel door completely from the frame so that the couch could actually get through the door. This is something that if I were moving myself I wouldn't have been able to do. Nathan and Rick did it like it was nothing to them and then reattached it within seconds as if they didn't just take off a 60-100 pound door. All in all the entire process took about an hour and a half. There are so many scummy moving companies out there and finding one that has a flat rate price for 2-3 guys (depending on what you pick) and then a single truck fee makes it so you have a very good understanding of how much everything is going to cost in the end. There are no bullshit hidden fees. If you do use them I implore you to give them a good tip because they sure as hell deserve it. Nathan and Rick, and the entire Chicago Marathon Movers team, you guys continue to impress me each and every move with your professionalism, speed, and efficiency without cutting corners. Beto, Jesus and Christian did an excellent job with our move this week. We are on the third floor and our air conditioner stopped working the day before the move which was a huge bummer but these gentlemen couldn't have handled it better. They were zero phased by the broken air conditioner and toughed it out with smiles on their faces. They were very polite and gentle with our things, asked where every box should go and if they could help further. I used them today for a move from Chicago to Glen Ellyn, and it was flawless! I wanted to help, and they even took the time to show me how to do some stuff to help them best. The were really nice and customer-focused. They were super efficient at it, but also made sure to put blankets around every piece of furniture, which takes a bit extra time but was very considerate of the , and they were very efficient at that too regardless. In the end, it took 4h and a half total, and costed me $690 (I gave tips on top of that), which isn't bad at all. Would use again for sure! read more

They moved us in record time. We changed our move date, needed storage service at the last minute AND had to wait a bit until we could move into our new home. They rolled with the punches. Just wrapped up my SPEEDY move with Geo, Dex, and Riff. Each guy deserves 5+ stars. They treated me and my belongings with the utmost care and respect.
