Short review: I needed my walls painted. Chicago Painters painted my walls. Five stars. Long review: this was a pre-move paint for a new purchase and my first time hiring painters instead of DIY. Chicago Painters was available four days earlier than originally booked (yay!), was able to get me an insurance certificate for my HOA, handled my high ceilings with ease, and fixed some damage that the previous owner left when they moved out. Ricardo and Daniel have my walls looking great, Jim was a pleasure to work with, and Cheryl kept everything going like a pro (I must have spoken with her a dozen times over the course of the job and she was unfailingly kind). The painters were upfront about the colors that I was using and a couple needed more coats than quoted to look right. Even so, the job finished on time with no real surprises. Just finished having a large portion of our condo painted, and it was a great experience working with Chicago Painters. My husband and I had so much back and forth about where to paint, what colors to use, etc and they were so patient with us, just wanting to make sure we were happy with how everything looked at the end of the day. I'll start by saying the painters who showed up did a great job and were neat, cleaning up when done. Communication with the company was uneven. They rescheduled a few times due to weather or scheduling which was fine, but also didn't show without letting me know. 6 days after the work they sent me an invoice by text claiming it was past due, even though it was the first time one arrived. We're thrilled with our entire experience with Chicago Painters. We had two painters, Carlos (leader) and Pablo, and both were thorough, professional, and incredibly skilled.  We received a competitive and accurate quote via email after providing photos and blueprints remotely.  We needed some guidance on paint colors and Cheryl (office manager) referred us to Cindy, a designer they frequently work with for an in-person $100 consult.  Cindy was great and quickly helped us out. Carlos, our lead painter, visited for a site survey the week before the project was to start, and he answered all of our questions and was very helpful.  We needed the project done within 5 days so we could clean and move in on time, and he ended up having the office schedule him to start a day earlier than planned just to make sure he could get it all done (he ended up getting everything done 2 days early). We had our walls, ceilings, and trim all painted, and everything looks fantastic.  Chicago Painters even offers a 30 day touchup where they come back out within a month to fix anything they might have forgotten, or in our case, mostly stuff that we scuffed up while moving in.  Carlos came out today and took care of all of our little nit picky touch up areas.  He did a fantastic job and the place really does look perfect. Office Manager Cheryl was easily available via phone, text, and email - before, during, and after our project.  We also hired the company to remove two mirrors that were glued to the bathroom walls.  Carlos did it in less time than he estimated, and he did a far better job patching the walls than we ever could've asked for.  They even got the mirrors set safely in my garage without damaging them.  We're beyond impressed and couldn't have asked for a better experience with our painters. read more

I should have gone with my first instinct and bailed as soon as the original representative sent me an estimate on an index card. You could not read any of the fineprint, warranty, instructions, etc. When I asked her to resend it as a larger document to read it, she just expanded the same index card so it was even more blurry. She said she would send a better one tomorrow. I told her if it was going to be blurry like this, please don't. Her response: "I appreciate your honestly I won't send it thanks." I'd moved on to another painter and called it a day. The only reason this was disappointing was because the rep who came out to see the place was a delight. I liked him and thought this company would do a great job. You can't ignore all the five-star reviews. Clearly they're making a lot of people happy. But customer service matters more to me than price, and the index card incident pretty much blew it for me. Then I got a call from the owner (which I never expected to happen because it is extremely rare that an owner will follow-up with these Yelp reviews). He agreed that I had a point about the index card and made an odd comment about his workers not coming back to work because they were enjoying unemployment. (No one enjoys unemployment, but I digress.) Fast forward to me trying to give the company another shot. I put down the deposit, and I was excited to work with them. Then the nonsense started again. I was first told that workers could start that week and mentioned I wanted a 48-hour notice for the other owners, although the board members could have their doors prepped and ready earlier. I emphasized this ahead of time. I said Monday was OK for front doors and a few residential doors. But then I got a call from the owner talking about rain was in the forecast, how his workers would be "mad at him" if he had to cancel, and they had a two-day job that would prolong it. Rain had not really affected our area. I explained that our condo is under decks and the doors are inward, so rain should not be a problem. No matter how many times (after four, I stopped counting) I said I still wanted to try Monday, the owner just kept mentioning other days. Clearly he did NOT want them to work Monday. I asked him to just tell me which days he could start. He said "Wednesday or Thursday." I wanted it in writing so he couldn't change the day again. I agreed to Wednesday or Thursday. (This conversation was beyond frustrating considering I was trying to meet a work deadline and hearing him go on and on about why Monday wouldn't work. Side note: Two OTHER contractors, including our gardener, came out on Monday and worked. Didn't rain the whole time they were here. They got the job done.) But then Tuesday night came around and I'd heard nothing. I sent another email asking about this. Professional courtesy IMO is to confirm with a client that if you say "Wednesday OR Thursday," that you should then clarify that by Tuesday evening. You will know if your workers are still doing something on Wednesday. He had the entire day to contact me and just flat-out didn't, and then was upset and told me about his family and his life and how he doesn't answer emails in the evening. Newsflash: The nine people plus me who were having our doors painted have families and lives and jobs that we were reorganizing to get this job done. A simple courtesy email confirming the day would've resolved all of this. After that, it just turned into a lot of back-and-forth emails that went nowhere. He gave me my deposit back (which I appreciate), but I cannot say this was an enjoyable experience. I'm certain that they would've done a great painting job, but all the extra baggage just wasn't worth it. I'm going with my second choice, who I originally turned down after this owner gave me an UNSOLICITED "yelp discount" deal after I told him my second choice had a cheaper deal. It was just flat-out the truth and I wanted to know if his rate could meet theirs before we took a vote. I gushed over the company and really wanted to work with them up until the Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday nonsense. Customer service outranks price, Yelp deal or not. For weeks after the Chicago Painters were done painting our house my 2 year old exclaimed "I miss the paint guys." I missed having the paint guys around too, which is pretty ironic since it's usually not a good thing to have messy, smelly fresh paint all over your house. I was originally planning to use a painter recommended to me by my interior designer. I had a bit of a tight timeline between the house closing and move-in date. A few days before they were scheduled to start I got an email from our painters that it was going to cost 50K. At first I thought I read the email wrong, but after confirming the cost and explaining to them this was not the sistine chapel...I opted to go elsewhere since I obviously wasn't going to spend 50K on painting. I went into a bit of a panic mode and emailed as many painters thru Yelp as possible. Two days later I had 9 painters, including Chicago Painters, stop by for a quote. They all came in at a fraction of my initial quote (phew). Chicago Painters's quote was somewhere in the middle, but I really liked Clay who had given me the quote. Clay also mentioned he'd be able to get 4-5 guys out to us so they could most likely finish by the time we moved in. When I mentioned I had been given a lower quote by another painting company he was pretty much able to match it. I had them lined up to start a few days later. The owner of the company Jim called me a few days later to confirm all the details. As other yelpers have mentioned he was extremely friendly. He also explained (very apologetically) that a few of his guys were out on requested vacations so he'd only be able to send 2 painters (instead of the 4-5 painters Clay had mentioned). My dreams of the paint job being done before we moved in vanished, but I guess that's to be expected in this industry. Rafael was our lead painter and he was amazing. He worked as fast as possible and was able to accomplish (with the help of his sidekick) an incredible amount in 2 weeks. We had a ton of wallpaper removal in our home and I was impressed by how fast he was able to get it done. They continued to paint after we moved in and it didn't end up being a big deal to have them there. He was also very patient as I stressed over figuring out the color for the chalkboard paint for my mudroom...and immediately corrected the situation (with a smile) when I discovered they'd accidently painted our powder room pink instead of the grey color I'd requested. Oops. Between all the different color walls, trim, ceilings, etc I had requested I"m shocked there was only one mix-up. When Rafael showed up a month later for touchups (Chicago Painters offers this to all their customers) I was thrilled to see him...and my daughter was even more excited to see the "paint guy." Fortunately, there wasn't much to touchup since he'd done such a great job the first time around. Jim also checked in throughout the process to make sure I was happy. I've hired a few painters over the last decade and I've never seen such amazing customer service. Even though the job ended up taking longer than expected it was still a 5 star experience. This is my first time using professional painters so I don't have anything to compare it to. The owner and the office personnel were easy enough to work with. I scheduled right before Christmas so I got my first requested time slot (love that!). They arrived on time each day. There was a supervisor and an assistant. The assistant was all business. This was during the omnicron surge and he wore his face mask properly all day. I told them to be careful with opening the front door because my cat will bolt out the door. One time the supervisor was not careful and my cat indeed bolted. But the assistant who was on it, caught my cat and brought him back inside. If you have a pet, you know what it's like! The only reason the assistant was not the supervisor was because his lack of English skills. The supervisor on the other hand was something to be endured at times. He would not wear a face mask properly (despite my asking), had personal conversations on the phone, asked me why I watched the news, was pouty at times, etc. The actual paint job was so so. Paint comes down to the details, right? I noticed places, especially underneath the window sill, where they didn't caulk, or didn't caulk enough. There were some drops of paint and paint got on some of the hardware on my doors too. It's all in the details. read more

5/5 all around great experience. My wife and I live in a 2000 sq ft condo in Lincoln Park. Rafal gave the initial walk through and quote which was done very quickly. I quoted half a dozen companies and prices ranged from 3000 to 7500. Chicago Painters were the most competitively priced and, unlike many other services, all quotes were very professionally done so that was nice. Daniel and Ricardo came and completed the job in 6 business days. Couldn't be happier with the final result. From the wall and baseboard prep, fixing all the cracks, warping, bumps etc., from the past 23 years of building life, to the final layers of paint. Everything is looking great. Only things that could've been better were Rafal underquoted the amount paint necessary by a few gallons, so that was a couple extra trips back and forth to buy more paint. And would've been nice to have a slightly larger crew to finish the job faster. But eh, great experience. read more

It has been some time since they painted my place but I'm still finding paint on my floors. I was told it would take four days, but it ended up taking two which would have been fine if they'd done a decent job. There were drips on some of the walls, I found dried paint on my floors and cabinets, the trim looked dirty, and there were areas where the trim paint color went an inch higher than the baseboards. They also missed areas. I find it hard to believe they did two coats. When I requested touch ups, the same painters were sent and they were very defensive. Their excuse for the dirty trim was that sometimes it's so dirty that it shows through the new paint. Since their site says that they complete "[t]horough surface preparation before any materials are applied" makes the excuse seem weak. They finally sent out a different painter who fixed the issues. read more

I strongly recommend avoiding this company at all costs. Don't trust the other reviews. Below is just a high-level list of the issues we had with Chicago Painters Inc: 1. Used wrong paint; we requested a paint match with semi-gloss and the paint used was satin. 2. Shoddy work -- paint stains all over the house on newly finished floors. Per our floor person, he had never seen a "sloppier" paint job in his career. Other contractors that have been to our home have all agreed with this assessment. 3. Damaged light fixture when removing wallpaper -- had to pay for replacement. 4. Damaged closet doors in three rooms -- had to pay for repair. 5. Terrible customer service -- denied responsibility for all of the issues. All in all, it will cost us in excess of 5K to correct all of the mistakes and we wish we didn't make the error of going the "affordable" route when choosing a paint company. This company's prices are cheap for a reason; they cut corners and do cheap work. read more

Due to the insane amount of snow this year, we had a leak from our rooftop deck that was going down one of the pressure joints in our house and destroyed some of our drywall.
