After talking to my acupuncturist, who practices nearby, he mentioned that a few of his clients get services here and have had good experiences. So today, I decided to stop by and check them out. The woman that answered the door had negative, short and defensive energy, immediately. She seemed upset that I was there. Still, I smiled and began asking about her services. She responded sharply and in a hostile manner with the basic rates. I asked, "... and so do you mostly provide Swedish style or Thai or others?" She quipped back, "Just Swedish." As I began to ask if they provide just neck and shoulder services, she moved to the desk, picked up a card and began to escort me to the door. I smiled in a bit of disbelief and asked, "Are you kicking me out." She said, "Yes." I took the card, dropped in on the cement just outside the door and left. To be fair, I do not know the reason for this horrible treatment. But I will say, I am a tenured Professor. I have seven degrees in the social and health sciences. In addition to my primary faculty appointment, I am a Research Scientist at two other Research Universities in the Midwest. At bottom, I specialize in human behavior. And so, while I do not know why the woman so so rude and disrespectful, what I do know is that I am a Black man. If you are a humanitarian, I invite you to avoid this place. My first experience with Tony was awesome and unlike any other massage experience I've had! This visit exceeded my last one! The massage area is really cool and eclectic with every square inch covered with messages, chimes, lights, sounds that call in good energy into the space. It would be hard to imagine not feeling immediately calm in the space. We sat down to chat briefly before my service and I was invited to pull a tarot card and read about its meaning before we began. It resonated with my current situation. My actual massage experience was multi-faceted and multi-modal. Tony guided some parts with a guided meditation, and at some points assisted breath work for deeper releases. I honestly don't want to spill the beans with all of the special treats that come along in this massage experience so that other therapists aren't tempted to co-opt the approach! The room i was in was clean, although the massage table was not the most comfortable table i have ever been on, it was sufficient. The woman that gave me the massage didn't speak English at all, but she gave me an excellent massage. Afterwords they brought me a bottle of water and helped me on with my shoes (a little strange). If you plan on going, get the coupon off their website for first time massages. That will save you $10 or $15 i believe.
