All indicators pointed to this being a classic Chicago hot dog experience. The ambience was correct the grill looked right even the guys cooking it looked right but that's where it kind of ended for me. And I can sum up the deficit simply by saying I don't think the guys were paying attention and here's why. The hot dog looked right had the right juxtaposition of ingredients but the finishing touch needs to be the proper amount of celery soft and someone was not paying attention and dropped a little too much on this. I actually tried dusting some off to render this edible. The hamburger was ordered as a plain Burger by my son but either he was not heard or they did not hear him correctly because he got a hamburger with everything. So please pay attention, listen, and take the time to do justice to this chicago classic fare. read more

Was suggested to try the Rahm Dog - caramelized onion, cheddar cheese, and mustards- veggie dog- poppyseed bun. $6.80- pricey but understandable with these times and quality. Chicago knows Hot Dogs and Chicago's Dog House might be the best. Right now this spot holds my award for best hot dog's in the country. Hot dog lovers MUST come here when traveling to Chicago. I particularly enjoyed the Obama Dog and the French Fries here. They put onions and melted cheese and chives on the Fries (Insert Drool). This place rocks! They literally have every hot dog flavor known to man, from rabbit and venison to duck and lamb. Just wow! I will come to the place literally every time I visit Chicago. I hope they never ever close. We always order takeout and are always happy. Directions followed and food is always tasty and fresh. My husband orders the veggie dogs and have never gotten an incorrect dog before (sucks when you can't eat meat and that's what shows up). After few more hours of studying and forgetting to eat comes another well-deserved break of writing up a long overdue review of a place I'm really craving at the moment. Chicago's Dog House was my very first experience at trying the classic Chicago dog when I visited in 2018. After coming back in 2019 and checking out a few more variations, I've come to appreciate the simplicity of this food that's become a staple in Chicago culture and history. Before I continue, yes, I was one of those amateurs who topped off her Chicago dog with ketchup. Sue me. On the real though, I had no idea that it was a "thing". Regardless, it was delicious. One thing I really enjoyed about the Dog House was the very artsy and colorful menu on the chalkboard, and even more was their wide array of assorted versions of the hot dog. If anyone knows me they KNOW I always aim for the unique flavors and menu items but I truly wanted my first experience to be with the classic dog that had the OG toppings: onions, relish, tomatoes, sport peppers, dill pickle spear all topped with yellow mustard and a dash of celery salt. And on the side we ordered their famous drips...basically fried chips...and they were nicely thin-cut, slinky-looking chips that went great with my...KETCHUP. Yeah I went there. The place is in a cute neighborhood in Lincoln Park (where I actually stayed during my next visit). We went during the day so it was a nice walk. The place is very casual. The service was alright. Slow day on a Saturday afternoon but it's all good. From the perspective of a tourist who's only there to check out the food, I was a happy camper. I know I'm not going in getting a gourmet Michelin-quality 3-course meal to be getting all emotional here. I'd definitely come back and try their other menu items next time! read more

Quite yummm. We got a pair of classic Chicago dogs, but they were so good that I had to return to the counter for an additional Midway Monster. The Chicagos were so neatly put together that I was a bit skeptical at first. I was expecting more of a "piled on" arrangement than the "neatly arranged" presentation we received. But the first bite quelled my fears: great pop on the hot dog, great steamy-warm poppyseed bun, with the tomatoes, pickle, and sport peppers fridge-cold, creating a thrilling temperature contrast as I wolfed it down. Buurrrp... The Midway Monster was a totally different dog, but also quite good. Salty and heavy from the cheese, bacon, and giardiniera (spelling?), this badboy is a decent gut bomb compared to the lighter, salady Chicago dog. For R&D, I would see if it's possible to melt the cheese rather than having it remain in the shredded state... literally food for thought. We arrived at around 2pm on a Friday, and the super friendly lone cook-server-cashier was holding it down with three or so orders ahead of us. By the time we were done, the place had only one other to-go order in work. Cool kitsch and art on the walls give it a colorful, bright vibe. Given the time, I'd like to try some of the other funny-named dogs on the chalkboard. A solid 4 for all. read more

I needed to find a spot for a legit Chicago dog for my husband on our visit to Chi-town. The Yelp reviews turned me on to this place, so we hopped off the El on our way from the Cubbies game and came here. This is a small space, looked very much like a neighborhood place. Be aware there was no AC with it being quite warm. Canned and bottled drinks/sodas here. A lot of items on the menu looked so good. Wished I had a bigger stomach to try everything! I got a German Shepherd dog, my hubby got a Chicago dog, and we shared loaded fries. The loaded fries were really good with the chili, cheese sauce, and bbq. Yum! My dog was very tasty as well, and we enjoyed talking to the guy behind the counter. Very friendly service. We told him about Sonoran hotdogs, a specialty from our city, Tucson, AZ. The hot dogs came out hot and fast and DELICIOUS the final cherry on top to the Chicago scene. This place is easily one of my favorites. I've ordered delivery from here via Yelp in the past, so when I walked past it recently around lunch time, I decided that visiting the actual space might be a good decision. It definitely was. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the soothing sounds of rap music (truly I'm into it), and the super cleverly-named menu items completely made my day. There are about 5-6 tables, but I was just grabbing my hot dog to go. I ended up going with the Snoop Dog, which features homemade chili, cheese, and onion. It was so good and filling that I truly wanted to take a nap afterward. That's a good dog. I also love that every hot dog is uniquely curated and that there's a gourmet hot dog menu! I love the variety of hotdogs. I came in from Florida and was recommended this place by my Chicago cousins. They have delicious and unusual flavors like the such spicy rattlesnake rabbit, the sweet alligator, the savory apple duck, and of course the traditional Chicago style.
