We went here for our first night in Chicago! It is an eclectic place and was fun to try. There is something for everyone on the menu. The mayor Daley dog was great! Our kids enjoyed the corndog (not pictured). The frips were out of this world good!!!! The fries and cheese sauce was also good! My husband liked his Chicago dog!
The food was really great! The cheese fries tasted amazing! I tried the apple brandy duck sausage and asked the guy if it was good. He was very friendly and told me it was one of their most popular items, I can tell why! It had a great flavor and a great snap to it! I think this is the only Chicago dog house that serves the apple brandy duck sausage, but the other locations are also good as well, they just don't have the duck sausage. If you're near this location I'd recommend it!
I was only here for a few days but had to get a Chicago Dog! It was the best Chicago dog I've had in my years visiting. That poppyseed bun! I can't wait to come back and try the unique dogs and sausages they offer. Cool art everywhere and just a good vibe. The pickles and the sport peppers are incredible. Highly recommend for anyone who wants an authentic Chicago dog or something even more unique! Also service was kind and quick!
Cute little place to grab a quick bite! I'm an adventurous eater and I really wanted to try the alligator brat. It was huge! Definitely enough for one person. Tasted like a slightly greasy chicken. The sweet chili sauce and caramelized onions made this a home run. My only suggestion is a sturdier bun since it fell apart halfway through, but maybe I'm a slow eater. Can't wait to work my way through the menu! (PS: it was a nice touch that they brought the food to your table)
Have to go here if you want the famous style hot dogs. It has that and plenty more styles. Chicago's Dog House is a dinky place with a big ass menu of hot dogs and side items. Get a table inside if lucky. The prices are pretty good on most things especially on the lunch meals. Came here at lunch and it was good timing because it was cheaper. It has weekday lunch specials. This is the time to come, but it's still not that expensive any other times. Get a hot dog, drink, and fries for about $8, or get 2 hot dogs and fries for about $9 or so. This is only on weekdays. A funny theme is they name some of the hot dogs for celebrities. They have styles according to the person whether they're an actor or a politician. I got the Lightfoot Dog. This is a vegan sausage topped Chicago style. Also they have a Trump Dog. It's a very burnt sausage with ketchup and mayonnaise. That's so wrong! I think it's just on the menu as a joke. That would be hard to imagine someone eating a garbage hot dog like that. Good to take to go. It gets pretty cramped in here. There's lots of interesting toppings and there's options for vegans and vegetarians.
I generally avoid trying to give one to two star reviews because I understand that this is people's livelihoods and everybody is just doing their best. However, the food here was just not good - we got the animal kingdom platter because it had a range of interesting meats like alligator, kangaroo, etc. And I assume that if you have something on your menu, it should be good. This was not the case here - I feel like these hot dogs were overpriced and just not well done. The kangaroo tasted floral (in the worst way, I don't mind floral flavors generally), and maybe that is what kangaroo meat just tastes like, but I have no other reference points. My brother basically wanted to go here because he wanted to have a fun Chicago hot dog experience and I 100% should have just taken him to the other no frills, hot dog joints that are actually good. I had a hot dog at a baseball game and that was so much better than this. The other thing is this place is pretty no frills lol (they don't even have tap water), which I don't care about, but to be janky and not good is not the vibe. The lamb gyro hot dog was one of the less bad ones but otherwise this is very much a skip.
Still a great place in the neighborhood! Stopped by for lunch and enjoyed a corn dog, drips and the Midway dog. All were super fresh, tasty and unique. The stand-out is the service. Everyone is friendly and willing to help order the right menu items. Please stop-in for some great dogs & chips!
We were looking for Chicago style hot dogs and came across this gem on Yelp! Parking is very limited since we parked along the street and it is metered parking. We tried a few different items here like the Chicago dog (which comes with mustard, tomato, onion, relish, pickles, sport peppers and celery salt), Blagojevich dog (everything in a Chicago dog with ketchup hahaha) and some frips (which are a cross between chips and fries that are spiraled from a whole potato to a golden crispy crisps). Everything tasted really good and the frips were a hit. We had toppings on our frips too but I think plain frips are more enjoyable. There's not much seating since our family of 5 took up a table and maybe there was one more table but this is a great spot to pick up and take it out. We met the employees here who got to know us traveling through the city and they were very nice and welcoming here :) Thanks!
I was really excited to try this place out. Especially after seeing bacon wrapped hot dogs calls Tijuana Street Dog. I thought I would get something similar to a "danger dog" that I wouldn't get in LA, back when I lived in California. Sadly, it wasn't even close. The dog itself was good it was charred and would be perfect with a Chicago style hot dog. Instead it's topped with a stop of bacon, and four jalapeño peppers. It was supposed to have melted chihuahua cheese and hot sauce but didn't really taste much of each. It was mediocre at best and was a huge let down. Maybe it's not fair comparing it to a danger dog, but that's just the first thing I can think of when I see "tijuana." I might return at a later date to try another dog, just not anytime soon.
When in Chicago, gotta eat their hot dog! So here we go! We had just left the Lincoln Park Zoo and found ourselves to enjoy a walk to get there. The location is small. Probably 12? Or 3.5 parties? The gentleman was nice and cool. TV was on a classic movie, can't remember which one. Though entertaining for our meal. I don't know much about hot dogs but I was satisfied. Sodas and water are available. Sure, try them, why not!

Started out mildly disappointed and capped it off with one of my biggest food regrets. I've been a Chicagoan all my life so I'm coming from that perspective The place is small with two booths. One of the booths was filled with boxes and junk and the other was taken, so we had to eat at the narrow shelf on stools, no big deal. Hotdog was fine. Fries were on the dark side and underwhelming. I'm admittedly a fry-snob. My wife and I decided to split a deep fried Twinkie. At first glance, we thought that it was covered in chocolate. BYOB. Trek-worthy. Perfectly curated Menu with a balance, interesting flavors of a fine dining. Excellent quality. Excellent pricing $4.50-$10 with Counter Service. I always get the GOURMET CATEGORY as no one in Chicago serves them, and I don't read the busy colorful menu board with equally interesting choices. We decided to get some delivery via caviar.com and I'd say while not exactly disappointed, it's clear CHD is best eaten fresh and in-house. Just based on the photos from their yelp page vs what we were served, it's night and day. When food arrived it was lukewarm at best and destroyed by the trapped steam of being wrapped in wax paper. Toppings were pretty light and the dogs were all on the small side. The "french poodle" was subtle with super melted brie, pear slices and grey poupon. It was a great combo but nothing in particular stood out. Granted the pears were rendered soft in transit to our apartment. The "t frank" was also subtle. The cream cheese and avocado blended in together but the hot sauce was bright and delicious. The bacon didn't add much flavor but did add a welcomed texture. Next up the "midway monster" with colby, bacon, bbq sauce and hot giardiniera peppers.This one was my absolute favorite with heat, sweet and salty all mixed up perfectly. I can't wait to try this one again fresh. Last up the corndog. We should have known better than to order a delivery corndog. That's on us. It showed up soft and limp. Don't get me wrong, It tasted good but definitely something best fresh out of the deep fryer. And speaking of the deep fryer, holy smokes at the deep fried Twinkie. We ordered ours without the chocolate sauce. Unbelievably good. Simply a Twinkie rendered crisp by hot oil and yet also rendered totally greasy at the same time. It was disturbingly good. read more

Duck Dog. Chicago style. All the way. The duck sausage blew my mind. I mean I've had a good duck bacon sausage in LA but this one was completely flavorful and paired well with the glazed slices of pear on top. The Chicago style is a solid regular hotdog, complete with pickles, spicy peppers, relish. The fries are freshly shaved potato crisply fried. read more

Yep, I am a sucker for a hot dog. The space is small, but pretty great for groups. They have a thin counter to sit couples and individuals, and they have two booths that you could probably squeeze 8-10 friends into. The menu here is full of fun and crazy combinations. I would not recommend this place for kids who will probably spend the next 30 minutes asking you to explain the joke behind each hot dog. But for me and my friends, we had a great laugh reading all of the political themed hot dogs. The cashier was super helpful in navigating us through this crazy menu and giving us recommendations. They also have a section of gourmet hot dogs, which had sausages made of rattlesnake, alligator, rabbit, etc. Their main menu are about $3-5 per dog, but the gourmet meat options were $10 each. I don't care what they're made of $10 for one hot dog is crazy. I mean, where are we, Wrigley Field? Jokes aside, if you have money burning in your wallet and you're an adventurous eater, check this place out. Me and my friends, being right out of college, stuck with the regular menu. I ordered the Chihuahua Dog (the one with avocado) and the Obama Dog (the one with bacon and teriyaki sauce). These dogs were fun and did not disappoint, they didn't blow me away either. Each of them consisted of 50% bun, 30% toppings, and a measly 20% meat, which in my seasoned opinion is too much bun and not enough sausage. Still, everything tasted great, including the fries which were delightfully crispy. Chicago's Dog House is just a bigger sausage away from 5 stars, but nonetheless I can't wait to come back. read more

I have been saved. With no disrespect to Aaron or Chicago's Dog House, the only reason I found you was because Murphy's on Belmont closed. After my regular trips to see my doctors at Masonic, my reward after these visits, much to my cardiologist's chagrin, was a trip to Muphy's for what I considered to be Chicago's best Chicago dog. After 31 years he closed shop August 19th, and I needed to find another red hot joint with a better than average Chicago dog. Didn't take long to find it. I have now been in twice, and I am just THRILLED to have found you to be my replacement for Murphy's, which is a high compliment. But enough about the place that closed. I love your space. The interior is decidedly Chicago and quirky, as is Aaron the proprietor. The space is interesting as heck. That is all intended as a compliment. Aaron, who has been doing this for 9 years or so now, told me he opened the joint "because he just likes hot dogs." The space is small, inviting, and exactly like you would want a Chicago red hot joint to be. The music, at least in two visits, is equally eclectic and inviting. As you walk in you won't miss the Blue Brothers and Chance the Rapper art pieces on the east wall by the two booths, but after you look at them and then to the back of the joint, you'll see the three menu chalkboards. Excellently hand printed, and very readable. You'll find the prices very reasonable, you will easily be able to buy for a friend. In my first visit I had the Chicago Dog, and it was tasty, with an appropriate excess of garden over topping the snappy dog. I enjoyed it very much. The fries were exceptional. In my second visit, with my now 13 and 15 year old son and daughter, who have been to MANY red hot joints with me, my daughter (fries before guys kinda gal), thought the fries were some of the best she has had in visits to at least two dozen other dog joints. All three of us noticed the difference between the dogs Aaron uses and Murphy's dogs, but we liked them very much. They have a snap that reminds me of the dogs you used to get at Demon Dogs under the L at Fullerton before it closed. For my second visit, I experimented, which is very unlike me, and I had the T-Frank. Red hot, avocado, cream cheese, real bacon bits generously tossed atop the dog, with a house made hot sauce that was really good. Can't wait to try more of the menu selections, which all read in a manner that makes them sound very mouth watering. Must admit, I thought once Murphy's closed, it could be a long time before I found a replacement for the people and simple guilty pleasure I looked forward to there after my Masonic medical visits. Seems it took much less time than I expected, and I found a most worthy replacement in Chicago's Dog House. I look forward to many future visits as I eat my way through the menu. Quite simply, this place has to be on any list of top Chicago Dog Joints, and you should check the place out. read more

First stop in Chicago from a long drive from DC we decided to check out a place for Chicago's famous dogs. The Chicago Dog was awesome, flavorful and a hint of spice from the peppers. The snoop dogg which is supposed to be homemade chili on top of the dog. The chili was bland, mushy, and wasn't the best chili dog I've had. I recommend he Chicago dog. The place is small, cozy and laid back. The fries were nice and crisp. I would come here again to try another hot dog aside from the chili dog. Aside from that, good place to grab. There are plenty of places for Chicago style hot dogs in the city, but this place caught my eyes while doing my research of where to get dogs while in the city. Maybe it's positive reviews, cuteness of the shop or the name, that drew me and my cousins here on a weekend afternoon. We sure were not disappointed!! The place is cute with a couple booth and a few high chairs along the wall. Two people were working and making everything to order. I got my very first Chicago style dog and the cousins got alligator sausage because that is also one of the specify from here. We also ordered some chili fries to share. Everything was delicious and I was told by my local cousins that the Chicago style dog was authentic and quite good, while they were devouring the spicy alligator sausage. I grisly enjoy the Chicago style, of all kinds of hotdogs I've had before, I think this is def my favorite, possibly due to my love for pickles or just because the combination of everything makes it refreshing. Stopped here for a true Chicago hot dog! The place was small but the food was great! We got a variety of different dogs to try and the kids loved it! We ordered our food and selected our sodas. The food took about 10 minutes to get but we watched all of it get prepared fresh! There were many different dogs to choose from for all kinds of tastes! Hubby asked what the server recommended and he said the Chicago dog. One of my kids got a plain hot dog and the other got the Snoop Dog- much like a Cincinnati coney. I chose the Midway Monster. It had BBQ sauce, bacon and cheese with assorted veggies. The bun was tasty and the fries were even better! We may have put ketchup on our dogs too but don't tell!! All in all, I would stop here again in a heartbeat! Just wish there was a restroom inside!!! read more

I LOVE this hotdog stand!!! The hot dogs are delicious and creative.Tried a few different ones already.So far my favorite is the Tijuana Street Hotdog.Its a hotdog wrapped in bacon and comes with fresh jalapeno,chihuahua cheese and homemade salsa.It BLEW me!!! They have a very good selection.And if you're adventurous they also have a GOURMET menu that features kangaroo,alligator,rabbit and rattlesnake hotdogs just to name a few.I haven't been that brave......YET!!! Lol.But I do definitely plan on it eventually.Im in the area alot so I will be stopping in regularly.I do recommend!!! read more

This place came highly recommended, especially the cheese fries. I had the German Shepherd dog and chili cheese fries. My friend had the Rahm dog. Neither of us was impressed with any of it. The food came out warm, not hot, which was the first bad sign. The hot dog meat itself didn't taste that good and was very small in proportion to the bun and toppings. The chili tasted okay but would have been better hot. This is an in/out type of place as there are only 3 tables and 4 bar seats. And there are no bathrooms. I'm guessing this place has gone downhill or maybe I was there on an off day. I would not recommend this place to anyone. There must be better hot dogs served in Chicago! Response to Aaron W. Fast response! Too bad you were more focused on being defensive instead of showing concern for my bad experience. Like I said, maybe I was there on an off day. Maybe do a check in on your staff on Thursday afternoon and make sure they are maintaining the high standards you apparently have for your establishment.
