I always only get one thing here: dong ding oolong with mousse. I got 0% sweet and it was perfect with the sugar from the mousse. I used to get 50% but always felt it was too sweet. I usually get it with taro balls but turns out it was seasonal when i came few days ago. It definitely didnt feel seasonal bc i always get taro balls idk why they stopped it i was so sad. Pls bring back the taro balls :'(
We placed our order and paid on the kiosk at the counter, there was a good selection of flavors and special seasonal drinks too. This Tea Shop hand-presses the teas and herbs for each individual order on their Teapresso machine. You can observe the process through the glass window along the front counter. There are five roasting/brew levels: Light, Light-Medium, Medium, Medium Heavy or Heavy. -Choose the type of tea: Milk, Fruit, Black or Green Tea. -Flavors: Honey, Brown Sugar, Mousse, Oolong, Passion Fruit. -Topping Add on: Bubble, Taro Ball, Coconut Jelly or Grass Jelly. -Final step is to choose sweetness level and amount of ice. I bought one of their seasonal teas: Creamy Pineapple Tart made with Oat Milk, bits of Pineapple pieces, Mousse and salted cookie crumb topping. This is a special promotion, not on the regular menu. They had photos of their Pineapple series, with the name Tart, you might think you're getting a dessert instead of a drink. It was perfect, not overly sweet and I would order this again. While waiting for our reservation, we ventured to this tea spot because we were parched. Good size crowd in this very modern setup. Offered samples once you got to the counter. The flavor of the day was a honey oolong. I got the Iced Pineapple Green Tea with boba. Seasonal flavor. Did have to wait a few for our tea but worth it. Loved the way it was presented and tasted great!
02/28/26 Saturday Award winning Taiwanese milk tea shop. Liked the transparency with the glass walls to allow you to see workers crafting the drinks. A bit pricey for the amount you get. The drink cups are on the smaller side. 9/10 Taro Milk Tea - light sweet is perfect because the taro paste and balls are sweetened. Just wish I could customize so it is milk instead of cream. So delicious and addicting but small portion size. Can still taste the tea despite the cream and taro. 8/10 Dong Ding Oolong Tea - probably should've gotten full sweet as it was very lightly sweetened at 75% sweetness. However, you can definitely taste the high quality loose leaf tea through the milk. Long wait, probably because today was the lunar new year festival happening on the same street this shop is situated. About 20 minutes in line to order because only one order kiosk and another 20 minutes to receive our drink. No one mans the orders, only workers to make drinks. Parking is limited because it is on Main Street.
This was my first time here Chicha San Chen (located on Main street) in Alhambra as I was looking for a tea place. This is quite an interesting store. Inside ambiance is clean and modern and yet still somewhat inviting. You can tell that is place offers a more elevated, tea-focused boba experience rather than your typical sugary drink shop with cute decor. I really like the service here. The staff is friendly, patient, and was able to explain their tea brewing process and also gave some good recomendations. I got lucky as there wasn't anyone after me so I could take my time and ask questions. One of the biggest highlights here is the quality of their drink. I have never had such high quality, freshly brewed on the spot, tea beverage. Usually those boba places have premade tea in stock ready for customers so that they can crank out their orders fast. But here you can tell they take their time in seeping the tea and making your drink. Each drink is brewed fresh to order using their signature "teaspresso" method, which really brings out the depth of the tea flavors . I got their Honey Osmanthus Oolong Tea that was somewhat light, floral, and with a deep oolong flavor. Loved it! I can definitely taste the pemium tea leaves, and the drinks taste smoother and less artificial compared to many other boba spots. I also got their Cassia Black Tea with Mousse that included a creamy foam top. Interesting combo for sure. Side stree parking only and it did take a few minutes to find a spot during peak times, but it's manageable. Will drop by again next time I am here in SGV!
I've been going back and forth to Arcadia a lot this year, and because we regularly go to May Mei and Chang's Garden, it's been easy to sneak out, place my tea orderat the kiosk, go back to finish the meal, then get my tea. My usual order is mango oolong with grass jelly, which is still sweet enough for me at 0% sweetness. They take the tea seriously here - each cup is brewed upon ordering so it's not fast. They also have some cute twine to go around the top of the cup. The sizes are on the smaller side. They open at noon, so I've been too early to get something a few times. Heading back to LA again this week, I will probably end up here again at some point!
Wow I get the hype of this place, they have high quality tea for their boba and their machines prove it. The place is very pristine, clean, and modern with their design and seating. If you take it to go, they give you their classic boba carrier with string. I don't really like taro but I LOVE their taro series. I got their: Taro Milk Tea (5/5): Which comes with their black tea blended with cream to create a milk tea base, thick slab of taro paste at the bottom, with their chewy taro balls. The black milk tea base was perfectly sweetened and went so well with the taro paste. Mix it up and it tasted even better blended throughout. I also love the chewiness of their taro balls that was flavored so well. I would come back to try their other drinks!
An Honest Review of "Chicha San Chen" in Los Angeles As someone who values culinary quality and the finer details of life, I always enjoy exploring diverse food and beverage establishments. However, my visit today to "Chicha San Chen" in Alhambra, Los Angeles, resulted in an incredibly disappointing--and frankly, failing--customer experience. Beneath its over-packaging and fame from Taiwan, this establishment fails severely in fundamental customer service and care. Company Policy Over Customer Health The most baffling aspect is their insistence on prioritizing "company policy" over customer health! What I found most unacceptable during this experience was the store's arrogant attitude toward health and environmental requests. I prefer drinking hot tea. It is well known that commercial paper or plastic cups rely on chemical linings to prevent leaks. When exposed to high-temperature liquids, these cups can easily release microplastics and harmful chemicals, posing a potential threat to human health. Because of this, despite my fatigue, I walked all the way back to my car under the hot sun to fetch my own stainless steel thermos, fully expecting to enjoy a cup of hot tea in the safest and most environmentally friendly way. To my surprise, when I made the perfectly reasonable request to have the freshly brewed hot tea poured directly into my thermos, I was met with a cold refusal from the staff. Citing a rigid "company policy," they insisted that the scalding hot tea must first be poured into their disposable cup, handed to me, and then I would have to transfer it into my thermos myself. This absurd operational logic not only entirely defeats the purpose of bringing a reusable cup but also ensures that the high-temperature tea still comes into contact with the chemical coating, directly threatening consumer health. When I tried to reason with them from a health perspective, all I received was an uncompromising, utterly indifferent refusal. Left with no choice, I canceled my hot tea order. The business philosophy of a restaurant that refuses to respect its customers' basic health needs and lacks any flexibility is truly hard to commend. Soulless Service and Artificial Flavors Their service devoid of warmth and mediocre flavors make one realize that their reputation is merely a façade. The soul of the food and beverage industry lies in "people" and "flavor," yet this store performs poorly in both regards. First is the service attitude. The staff throughout the store acted like machines executing commands; there were absolutely no smiles on their faces, nor could I feel any warmth or hospitality. In a modern dining environment that values the art of hospitality, this icy service demeanor is highly uncomfortable. Second, not wanting to ruin the mood, I tasted the iced tea ordered by my family members. I initially thought a brand that prides itself on refinement would showcase the true depth of its tea leaves. Instead, upon tasting it, I found a distinct artificial taste in the flavoring that completely masked the natural, sweet aftertaste the tea should possess. For anyone who truly understands tea and cares about flavor, this is absolutely unacceptable. Overhyped Atmosphere Lastly, I must mention their interior design. Many Taiwanese chain tea shops of this kind advertise their spatial design as elegant, comfortable, and perfect for gatherings or romantic dates. In reality, the overall environment of this store felt incredibly ordinary and stiff. It completely lacked the premium feel they boast about, let alone any sense of romance or comfort. Conclusion A successful food and beverage brand can never be sustained solely by superficial marketing or rigid SOPs. When a store loses its respect for customer health and environmental consciousness, while simultaneously failing to provide sincere service, professional explanations, or natural and pure flavors, it has lost its core value to establish a foothold in the culinary world. This experience at "Chicha San Chen" was undoubtedly a massive letdown and deeply regrettable.
My favorite drinks are back. The only time i would come to chicha is for their taro series. I can't decide which one is better betweem the milk tea or the fresh milk. But the taro paste and balls are what makes the drink amazing. Wished it was permanent but since it's not that's fine. Save me money since drinks are overpriced. When you come in, you line up to place your order on the kiosk. Then you wait for for drinks to be called. But most of the time they make alot of orders then call people to pick them up so i just show them my receipt instead of waiting. Otherwise you waste more time since drinks take a while.
I've been to both the SG location as well as the Alhambra one quite a few times and it's always been a consistent experience in terms of service and quality. The best part of Chicha San Chen is their teas--super fragrant no matter which tea you order. My absolutely favorite is the Green Milk Tea with Taro Balls, and it comes with a refreshing jasmine tea paired with chewy soft taro balls that aren't too sweet (best Asian compliment ofc). This last time I also purchased some Lishan Oolong tea (light roast and medium dark roast) and wow, it bloomed into whole tea leaves, not just scraps. Pretty good quality. Went back on a weekend and they had BOGO 75g Lishan Oolong--$40 for 150g, what a steal! The staff here are always really polite and nice, and this particular store is huge with plenty of seating spaces. There's a free parking garage behind Gen right around the corner.
As always, I love Chicha San Chen for their aesthetics and tea. It has been over a year since I've been to one and this is my first time at their Alhambra location. The interior of this location is huge! Very clean and open. We got lucky and there was no line on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered Cassia with Mousse ($7.25), Green Tea with Passion ($7.25), Taro Ball Tea Latte ($8.25), Dong Ding Oolong Tea ($6). I forgot that the mousse has a sweet flavoring to it that makes it a bit too sweet even for this sweet tooth. Their drinks are very expensive for what it is. The size is on the smaller side and for a basic tea with no milk or add-ons, its already $6. The tea does taste good, but nothing too great. Overall, I think I still like Chicha San Chen for what it is, but I wouldn't frequent them all the time.

They have a total of 8 tables and there are outlets to charge your electronics. They play soft instrumental music and have a restroom for customers. Staff was very polite. When it was our turn to order, we were offered free smaples to try. I love this since it can help with the decision making process from their expansive menu. Overall drinks are pricy for the only small size they offer but quality makes up for it. Great tasting fruit teas and a great place to work since most people take their drinks to go. read more

Though the storefront in Alhambra may look modest, stepping inside reveals a spacious and elegant interior. I've tried different locations before but was in the area looking for something refreshing so I settled for the grape osmanthus tea. You can either order through the staff or using the kiosk (kiosk was faster for me). It was delightful! Perfectly sweetened and I could see this being nice on a warm summer day. Packaging is cute but maybe seems a little unnecessary. Lots of open space inside, but limited seating. Great tea! read more

CHICHA has amazing tea and is absolutely worth the wait. We waited about 20 minutes, but it didn't feel too long. They use a "teaspresso" machine that supposedly incorporates AI to press the tea like an espresso machine. I'm not sure how it works, but the result is incredible. I got the osmanthus oolong with mango, and it was so, so good. The tea flavor was rich and fresh, and the mango added the perfect amount of sweetness. I also got their konjac jelly, which was really good, almost like boba but with a softer, jelly like texture. It added a nice twist to the drink without being too chewy. I'd definitely come back to try more flavors. read more

I tried the Dong Ding Oolong Milk tea and it was so good! The oolong tea has a really nice nutty and earthy flavor. The boba was soft and chewy and the perfect consistency for me. They are one of the better boba's I've had, and I would definitely come back! I tried coming here last weekend around 3pm and it was crazy busy. It was going to take 40 min for the drink, so I decided to try again this weekend. There was no wait around 12:30pm, so I recommend coming in closer to their opening time if you don't want to wait. read more

I finally dropped by to get some tea from here! There was no line when I went in (lucky!). Interior is very clean and spacious. When I placed the order, the cashier repeated what I ordered, and one of the things she mentioned was about the amount of ice. I always forget to ask for less ice, so I'm thankful for that! Solid tea option in the 626! And great that it is on Main Street in Alhambra now. Prime location in my opinion. Is it the best of the best? Well I think boba and milk tea is very subjective. So I think there are other options just as good in the area, but each specialize in something different than another. What I like about Chicha is strong tea brews and very flavorful/rich mousse/foam on top. They also have konjac jelly as a topping option to those who may not like boba or other toppings- this sets them apart since many places don't offer this! The line has died down in my opinion, maybe different during peak hours. But when I went on a Friday afternoon around 2-3pm there was barely a line. read more

First time visiting this location, it's much bigger with more seating & faster service than the San Gabriel location. They serve tea from Taiwan, the price is high for the size of the drinks but you're paying for quality. They use a special technique to measure & brew tea. We enjoyed our drinks: Passion Fruit Green Tea & Lemon Condensed Milk with Mango (non-caffeinated). The drinks were delicious, you can taste the tea flavor. Will definitely return next time we're in the area. read more

I'm glad another location opened up and this location is bigger than the one in San Gabriel too. Street parking might be difficult to find. It might be best to park at the parking structure and walk over. My favorite is the Osmanthus Oolong Tea with Mango but today I decided to try Cassia Black Tea with Organic Milk and Bubble. The drinks here are never too sweet. At times I wish it's a bit more sweet but perhaps this sweetness level is enough. I really like how this location is spacious but perhaps they can utilize the space in the back more. Perhaps add some tables and chairs toward the back so the crowd isn't just always in the middle of the store. read more

This was the first Chicha San Chen location I tried and wow, it is massive. Super open and modern. She's definitely the stylish sister of the San Gabriel spot. Parking can be a little tricky if you're hoping to park right in front, but there are a bunch of parking structures nearby. I ordered the Mango Tart and she delivered. Bright, juicy, tropical perfection. It's giving "bite into a mango on vacation" realness. Service was a little slow though. I went on a Tuesday afternoon and it took about 10 to 15 minutes for just one drink. My husband actually left to grab a latte from Three Fields Coffee next door and came back before my drink was ready. Not sure what the holdup was. Maybe they're still working out the kinks, but I got 3 drinks way faster at the San Gabriel location, even though they had more orders and less space to work with. Still, that Mango Tart was worth the wait. Would I come back? Yes. Would I mobile order next time? Also a yes if they ever get their online order system up and running (it's always in "maintenance") read more

I'm so happy that they open another location in SGV! This one is much more spacious than the San Gabriel location. They also have more indoor seating. Depending on the time you come, there may be a line but it moves quickly! Quality of the tea is definitely something you can taste! New location for Chicha San Chen which is much bigger than the first location and there was no line when we went. We ordered the Dong Ding Oolong Tea and the Peach Green Tea. The tea flavor was present and both were not too sweet. I preferred the jellies over the tapioca pearls as they had a thicker texture and the boba was a little too soft. Love getting Chicha whenever I visit Alhambra! I really enjoy the flavors of their teas and their fruit flavored drinks - although I will say the mango is on the sweeter side for sure. The baristas are nice and gave me some recommendations including the promotions ongoing at the time, and I enjoy the tables that they have for seating, although it does get slightly crowded at times. Have visited a few times already and will continue to do so in the future. read more

Quality boba and tea drinks are hard to come by in San Diego, my hometown and Hawaii where I live. I was intrigued when I heard that SGV's first Chi Cha San Chen had hourlong wait times, and even better that they recently opened an Alhambra location to ease the congestion! I even tried CCSC in Austin, Texas and the green tea I had was yummy. The Alhambra CCSC is very spacious and clean. Ordering is just as efficient and drinks are just as tasty as the SGV location, but with shorter wait times. Customers are able to see CCSC's "teapresso" machine up front; very cool to watch the brewing process. During my first time at this location, I ordered one of their popular drinks, the Dong Ding Oolong Tea with organic milk, boba, and "perfect sweetness." My husband ordered another popular drink, the High Mountain Pouchong Tea with lemon juice and grass jelly. My husband's drink was still tasty even the next morning. I didn't get to my drink until the following morning, but my drink was still good! The following day (LOL), my in-laws, hubby, and I revisited this location. This time, I ordered yet another popular drink, the green tea with passion fruit, boba, and perfect sweetness. The sweetness was just right for this drink! One of my sisters-in-law ordered the same Dong Ding Milk Tea drink as me, but with less sweetness. She let my sample her drink, and I really enjoyed it! I actually ended up adding water to my Dong Ding Milk Tea to cut the sweetness a bit. All the workers seemed diligent about their craft. They seemed so quiet, efficient, and focused that I felt like I was in Japan with the quality of their drink and customer service! Not really sure what the parking situation is here since we all walked from Lunasia Dim Sum. TL;DR: I love Chi Cha San Chen! My favorite orders so far: - Dong Ding Oolong Milk Tea with boba, regular ice, less sweet - Green Tea with Passion Fruit, regular ice, perfect sweetness. Please consider opening a San Diego location (in the Convoy district) and an Oahu, Hawaii location! read more

Looks like Chicha San Chen opened up another store, this time in Alhambra. This is good because the Rowland Heights and San Gabriel locations are always slammed. In fact, I've still never been to the San Gabriel location because the line is always insanely long. So what sets Chicha San Chen apart from all the other boba shops is that they literally brew the tea upon order rather than using powder. What really helps here is that they have their proprietary Lion teapresso machine. Last time I went to the Rowland Heights location, I swore they didn't have the machine there. Anyways, it cut the wait a lot shorter. Ordered a standard Bubble Milk Tea with 50% sugar and light ice and can confirm this is fantastic. read more

[ Drink ] I tried the Dong Ding Oolong Milk Tea with less sugar and it came out kinda watery. I've had their milk tea at the SG location and that was way better. I thought the organic whole milk was going to make it creamy, but nope. Kinda surprised it's a popular drink, unless they were so busy it didn't turn out how it usually does. [ Service ] Customer service was good. Everything seemed organized and clean. They do seem really busy though, even when there's not a lot of customers in store, they probably get a lot of mobile orders. So do expect to wait a bit for your drink. High Mountain Pouchong tea, less ice, 0% sweet. The tea is so good, it tastes sweet even though there is no sweetness. Without additives you can fully appreciate the natural flavor of high quality tea leaves. This is not like ordinary tea shop where the base teas are batch brewed because they expect you to add milk and flavorings, the tea here is prepared fresh for each cup. There is nothing to hide behind so the tea must stand on its own. If this sounds good to you, then High Mountain Pouchong tea is a must-order. I do not live nearby and usually order several to take home with me in an ice chest. This location has no line and tons of tables. Every drink I've tried here has been amazing--I've yet to find one I didn't like! The precision in tea-making really sets the quality apart. It's also great to have another location in the 626, and this one is much more spacious, which is a huge plus! The location is super convenient, right on Main St, surrounded by plenty of great restaurants. Highly recommend the Dong Ding Oolong Tea Latte--it's a must-try! read more

I visited this place on Christmas Eve, and there was a long line. I waited about 20 minutes just to place my order. Once I did, the barista informed me it would take another 30 to 45 minutes to get my drink. I ordered the high mountain tea with organic milk. The tea was fresh and tasty, but I would not recommend coming here during peak times/holidays. Waiting 45 minutes for one drink was not worth it. However, if you visit during a quieter time, it is a great spot for boba since they prepare each drink fresh. read more

Ordered the dong ding tea and customized a drink with green tea and mousse. Favorite location for Chicha San Chen as the lines more very quickly and spacious waiting area as they call out your number when your order is ready. There are restrooms in the back, and the place has been nicely decorated for the holidays. Both drinks were ordered with light sugar, which I recommend if you are pairing your drinks with toppings. read more

Finally Chicha is expanding and I never visited the other locations except San Gabriel. I went on Thanksgiving day and that may have been a mistake lol. Located in Downtown Alhambra and there's plenty of parking around, which there is a structure right behind this building. On Thanksgiving day, there didn't open up online orders so it was walk-in only. I got there and the line was moving incredibly slow. It took about 1hr to reach the cash register, and an additional 30 minutes to wait to pick up my two drinks lol. I even drove out and came back here and it still wasn't ready. Everyone was literally order tons of drinks to bring back for their holiday party and I just wanted two haha. Anyways, this location is definitely more spacious than San Gabriel! The interior is really nice as well. It's a plus that they do online orders here, but a shame they didn't open it up on Thanksgiving lol. I went to order my usual Cassia Black Tea with Mousse, and my honey green tea for my dad. When I got my drinks, it does taste like it was bit rushed, for example, the mousse was not as thick as the San Gabriel one. I would probably give this location another chance another day, especially ordering ahead. read more

Used to go to the location on Valley in San Gabriel, but that location constantly has long line/wait and the experience wasn't very good on multiple occasions. Sometimes, it's the customer. Other times, it's because I found a foreign object (a piece of sponge) in my drink. Gross. Anyways, back to this location. Fairly happy with this location. Order and pick up without issues. The only thing is the slightly long wait time. The price is creeping up/getting up there for a medium size drink. At least the drinks are tasty. Everything is fine. DRINKS: Organic Milk with Brown Sugar Bubble 4.5/5 Tastes good, but boba gets hard fast after stirring Creamy Pineapple Tart 4/5 Flavor profile is good, but way too sweet. Slight regret. Felt like I should have gotten the Creamy Lemon Tart Lemon condensed milk drinks are generally good imo. read more

Parking is available through the nearby structures, but not the most accessible. I love ordering the Peach Oolong with Peach Bits because it is refreshing, but I also like the Taro Black Milk Tea with taro paste and taro balls. Not a huge fan of taro milk tea, but this drink tastes authentic and doesn't seem to be using any artificial powders. Taro balls are chewy and fun to drink. Service is not always flexible though. Friend is sensitive to milk at times but can take easy cream/milk and sometimes depending on the cashier person, they may accommodate to her needs. read more

Located on a busy Main Street block. I ordered osmanthus oolong tea with mango and I absolutely loved it!! Still have no idea what osmanthus is but this drink is the definitely tasty and refreshing. It's like the perfect balance. There's plenty of seating available and super spacious inside. Lots of parking structures in the area as well as street parking. read more

I finally got to try this place! I've been wanting to go to the 1st location they opened but that line is always so so so long. There was a super small line when I first came to this location so that was definitely a plus! Service was super quick, wait time was also only like 5 minutes? Granted we came on a Thursday after lunch time haha We got the dong ding oolong tea with organic milk. Since it was my first time here, I wanted to try one of the more popular drinks rather than going straight for the seasonals haha I honestly don't know what I was expecting from the drinks but I feel like it was alright? I feel like the drink was pretty watered down - other milk tea places I've tried definitely had stronger notes of tea. I'd definitely go back again just to try their other teas and their seasonal drinks like the taro one! Parking is in the parking structures of Main Street, Alhambra and if you're lucky, there's street parking! read more
