Finally Chicha is expanding and I never visited the other locations except San Gabriel. I went on Thanksgiving day and that may have been a mistake lol. Located in Downtown Alhambra and there's plenty of parking around, which there is a structure right behind this building. On Thanksgiving day, there didn't open up online orders so it was walk-in only. I got there and the line was moving incredibly slow. It took about 1hr to reach the cash register, and an additional 30 minutes to wait to pick up my two drinks lol. I even drove out and came back here and it still wasn't ready. Everyone was literally order tons of drinks to bring back for their holiday party and I just wanted two haha. Anyways, this location is definitely more spacious than San Gabriel! The interior is really nice as well. It's a plus that they do online orders here, but a shame they didn't open it up on Thanksgiving lol. I went to order my usual Cassia Black Tea with Mousse, and my honey green tea for my dad. When I got my drinks, it does taste like it was bit rushed, for example, the mousse was not as thick as the San Gabriel one. The only thing is the slightly long wait time. The price is creeping up/getting up there for a medium size drink. At least the drinks are tasty. Everything is fine. The ambience is nice with lots of seating and modern design. Service is welcoming and its easy to order as it should be. The drinks are on the pricer side (around 8.50 per) but this is definitely a quality over quantity boba shop. Dong Ding Oolong Milk Tea was great. I love ordering the Peach Oolong with Peach Bits because it is refreshing, but I also like the Taro Black Milk Tea with taro paste and taro balls. Not a huge fan of taro milk tea, but this drink tastes authentic and doesn't seem to be using any artificial powders. Taro balls are chewy and fun to drink. Service is not always flexible though. I finally got to try this place! I've been wanting to go to the 1st location they opened but that line is always so so so long. There was a super small line when I first came to this location so that was definitely a plus! Service was super quick, wait time was also only like 5 minutes? I was staring out the window one day on Main when I saw the CHICHA San Chen logo and I was like, "No way, they're opening a CHICHA in Alhambra??" We were going to go to a different place down the street that was absurdly busy so we ended up pulling up to CHICHA instead after seeing they had tables and confirming with the bobarista that they had WiFi. (Their WiFi doesn't work -- not sure if it was an off day or just the reality.) I have since been here twice and have been blown away by their green tea as I have always said green tea is not for me. I prefer fruity flavors and have gotten green tea + mango as well as green tea + passion fruit. I stuck with their recommendation of perfect sweetness and ice and I am very happy with my drinks. The cashier is very knowledgeable with the menu + their recommendations which is a big plus since they have so many options! This location has a very short wait (~10 min) with a good amount of seats that always seem to be open. It's a nice spot to grab a drink and take a break from the heat outside. I frequent this location of Chicha San Chen pretty often because it's close to my office, they have really tasty tea/drinks, and I like to get it for my clients. Some of my favorite drinks here are the tart series of drinks. This location itself is much bigger than the OG San Gabriel one and you can actually sit inside. The inside is clean and very trendy/hip. However, my experience with service and how management runs this store is why this is a three star review. The wait can be long here when it's busy so I try to order ahead but even when there isn't a wait because of a lot of people, it's slow. The last three times I've experienced difficulties with my customer experience here. The first being purely technical, we paid online but got a notification that their online payment system was down and it didn't work so we brought my coworkers card in, the one who paid because they were treating. They wouldn't let us use it since she wasn't there, which is fine, but annoying that it didn't work in the first place. Second, they have a sign there to order with their QR instead of waiting in line. Which I did, but ended up having to wait much longer to get my drinks then the people who stood in line because I believe it just throws you in the back of the queue with the rest of the online orders vs the priority for people in store. Third, there were two groups in line. Myself, and the first group that had already been there before I walked in- which were elders so they were quite slow using the self serve kiosk and deciding what to order. It was the only option of ordering at the time. Though the staff stood there not making drinks but seemingly waiting for the order to be placed. The elders were still struggling and not being helped and a third group came in and waited behind me. They were taking so long that eventually the group behind me asked if it was the only option, as we all stared at the staff doing nothing. Eventually I was able to make my big to go order which usually comes in bags, so I know I can carry them to the car myself. But they said they charge extra for bags now but that wasn't made clear or an asked option to add when I was ordering. I was already running short on time and didn't want to wait again to pay for bags so they just watched me struggle to carry all my drinks out the door. I looked back and watched them watch me. If we're going to change things up, have an updated policy sign or update the ordering system so it's clear. These experiences though small individually, add up in my frustration in customer experience at this store. read more

So happy that Chicha San Chen is now open in Alhambra! There are many parking structures surrounding the store, which makes it easy to find parking and walk to. Pros: 1. Good parking 2. Good AC in the store, and the line is also inside rather than outside like their San Gabriel location 3. Quality tea taste 4. Ample tables and outlets for working + free wifi They are currently still in soft opening, thus not everything is at 100% yet (bathrooms aren't ready quite yet) but I would say that it functions quite well. What sets this store apart from the San Gabriel one is that there is a free tea tasting at 1 PM daily where a small group (I believe 5-6 people ?) can view the brewing process and taste the tea. My friend was able to participate and thought it was very educational! I got the Bubble Milk Tea with half sweet and less ice and thought it was delicious. The quality is still up there with the San Gabriel location. My friend got the seasonal Peach Dong Ding Oolong with Mousse. The mousse provides a texture change compared to the otherwise smooth drink. There are some drinks that they don't allow toppings added, but I don't mind because otherwise it would change the taste of the drink. I'm a regular at other locations of Chicha San Chen and this one happened to be closest to me while I was out. My order is usually a green tea + mango + light ice + light sweetness. My order was ready in about 10 minutes which was pretty normal regardless of which Chicha San Chen I go to. The drink had a slightly stronger green tea taste this time, which I enjoyed. The sweetness felt a little bit more than what I usually have so I guess they were a bit heavy handed on the sweetener this time. Overall, the drink I got here was still great. The best boba. Period. Everything else pales in comparison. Specifically, the black, green, and oolong tea--no one does it better. The tea is smooth, fragrant, and full of depth. No artificial aftertaste, no watered-down flavors. I can try to pretend I understand the technicality of the Teapresso they're using. I don't. I Just know im drinking pure, high-quality tea. I haven't had this kind of craving in years. Most of the time, when I want boba, I just look up the nearest shop. I'm in SGV, where most places are at least above average. But Chi Cha San Chen isn't just another boba shop. It demands that I take time out of my day, drive 20 minutes out of my way, just to get my fix. And apparently, I'm not the only one. Weekend lines are 30+ minutes long. Even on weekdays, it's easily a 10+ minute wait. What's the ambiance? Well, it's a lot of people all the time. When I get up to the front of the line to order, I don't even have to adjust the sweetness level. Perfect is, well, perfect. If you're into fruity drinks, this isn't the place for you. I don't know what's up with their online ordering. It doesn't work for me. If anyone can explain it, I'd love to use it so I can pick up my drink when I arrive. But honestly, I have a feeling they just can't turn it on--otherwise, they'd be completely overwhelmed. The only negative is that they're closed on Wednesdays. The Alhambra location didn't have a huge line, service was fast. You can also order online if you don't want to wait. This location looks larger than the other locations, very clean and nicely decorated! Osmanthus oolong tea with honey: 4/5. The oolong was perfectly balanced, without a strong astringent flavor, and the tea wasn't overly sweet. Peach dong ding oolong tea: 2/5. I wasn't a big fan of this drink. It was too sweet for me, and I didn't care much for the peach bits. Creamy pineapple tart: 4/5. This is non-caffeinated and features a creamy foam with salted egg. When mixed with milk, pineapple juice, and pineapple bits, it tasted just like a Chinese pineapple tart. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed this drink. read more

The main store is in San Gabriel, although I would occasionally stop by here after going to the Costco in Alhambra. This store is much bigger than the San Gabriel location. Parking is usually found throughout the various parking lots in the area. This store has a kiosk where you can place the order. Wait time was about 35 minutes from placing the order. I came in what I thought was a slow time, but the people before me had multiple drinks per order. Drink Quality: Very mild. On the lighter side. I like how they gave the option to use cream instead of milk in the milk tea, gives it a unique flavor. A- Price: Expensive. Approximately 7.25 plus tax for the drink. Upper-end of the market, and the store is not marketing towards price-conscious consumers. But here, they make the tea to order, so you have to factor that in as well. B+ Ambiance/Service: Workers were very nice considering the amount of drinks they made before me. However, I noticed that they were lining up all the drinks on the counter and using only one of the two or three available blenders. Since the blending is the slowest step, I would have at least two blenders and two staff at that station on at all times until the rush is over. There really doesn't need to be two people manning the pickup counter. B/B- Overall Rating: B+. One of my favorite milk tea shops in the SGV, with more parking available than the San Gabriel location. I really appreciate the made-to-order model and I will spend more to see my drink freshly made instead of being poured out of a jug.
