    Nashville chicken sandwich

Food just wasn't that great. It was fine. The French fries were great. I've had really great hot chicken and this doesn't even compare. They just put seasoning powder on top of already made chicken instead of a sauce.

This was my first time at MRM. I don't like to give bad reviews, but I'm also honest. I personally just wish I would of read the reviews while walking around MRM and before I chose this place to eat out of all the other choices I could of gone with. The chicken is served on a dry, nothing on it... piece of bread and I think it was just for seeping up the oil. Let's talk about the oil, SO MUCH of it. The honey mustard wasn't that good. After the first sauce, each sauce is .85 cents. I went back up and paid for the bbq sauce, because the honey mustard just wasn't doing it for me. The fries were honestly the only good thing. As far as the venue: Where we sat (right on the side of Chicken and the Wolf) it was VERY loud. Doors constantly slamming, dishes being dropped off at the trash can. My friend and I could barely hear. I won't be returning.

I think this might be the only time I've given a restaurant one star. It was horrible. My husband and a I both ordered chicken sandwiches and one order of fries to split. They did not put any kind of dressing on the sandwiches such as mustard or mayonnaise. You had to buy a dressing for 75 cents to $1. None of them sounded good and I didn't like paying that much for a mayonnaise substitute for a sandwich that already costb$11 plus change, so I just ordered mine dry. When we got our sandwiches, we discovered they got our order wrong. They brought us 2 orders of fries instead of one and they charged us for two. They also brought us crinkle fries instead of straight fries. Plus they were out of ketchup. We had to pay when we ordered, so we couldn't have the fries just taken off the check. I asked them to exchange the crinkle fries for the straight fries we ordered. They said they were out, so I asked for our money back. Then they suddenly had more straight fries after all. The breading was extremely greasy and extremely salty. I have a tolerance for greasy fried food, but this tasted like it might have been old grease. We both pulled the breading off and just ate the chicken by itself. We tried to eat some of the fries but they weren't good without ketchup, so we left the fries along with the buns. We paid $24 plus change and all we could eat was a slice of chicken with breading pulled off.

We went to the rock concert across the street at Tulsa University tonight and had the pleasure of dining at Tulsa's best hot chicken restaurant of Chicken and the Wolf. Tonight was one of their busiest nights and they didn't miss a step. The food was delicious as always and the service was top notch! Especially when dining on their patio. Perfect evening and I can't rave enough about Chicken and the Wolf. Mostly, it's their people who make the difference. Now go there and eat! You'll be "cluck yeah" that you did.

Stopped by Mother Road Market while we were in Tulsa and got the Nashville chicken sandwich here and oof, we weren't too delighted with the chicken sandwich. The bread itself was so stale and so dry that it made the sandwich as a whole inedible. The chicken itself actually tasted pretty good, but the sandwich lacked sauce and I think there was probably one pickle in it. Fries were pretty good though! Loved that they were crispy and seasoned well. Service was fast, and courteous though! I do love the ambience and the overall look of the store too, but we wouldn't come back for any of the food sadly.

The OG with comeback sauce (level 4 hotness--warning: really hot!) and coleslaw
    Joop V.

I ordered the OG sandwich (with hot level of spiciness) and coleslaw as a side. The sandwich was made to order I supposed, as they give me a disk that rang when my order was ready. It didn't take long at all, so I appreciated the promptness of this place. Overall, I thought the chicken sandwich was wayyy too spicy for what it should be. The level that I ordered was 4 out of 5 and I thought it was wayyy too much (coming from someone who comes from a country that is abundant of spicy food). I just couldn't imagine how anyone would order a 5 at all given the level of spiciness was wayyyy too much. I even think they may want to just take level 5 out of the menu. Honestly, the chicken sandwich was ok. I managed to finish it (with a couple of glasses of water) but it wasn't too pleasant of an experience. Now...I think the level of spice that I got definitely drowned the tastiness of the chicken sandwich...and I would recommend anyone to go with a much milder version. Overall, ok experience. I don't think it was anything memorable for me eating a chicken sandwich from here though (even though I had high hopes hearing from local people how great this place was).

    Nashville Medium and Potato Salad
    Dave G.

Overall for Chicken and the Wolf, what they do well...is their chicken. For that it's a 4* spot. Well executed sandwich, slaw, perfectly crispy and the spice level is consistently good. The star reduction stems from the sides. Fries taste like a standard frozen fry, and Potato salad was pretty mundane. If the sides get a boost then this may be a 5* join.

    Vegan chicken fries.
    Roo F.

Oh no! Bummed! My friend and I wanted to share the vegan hot chicken fries. Lets be perfectly clear the chicken was good and the lemon dill sauce was good. That being said, the fries were not good they were cool and dry, there was barely enough sauce to cover the chicken let alone reach the fries, and sadly there were no pickles as stated came included. There was however plenty of lettuce between the chicken and fries which ultimately threw us off and again made it impossible for sauces to reach fries. There was no cohesiveness to this dish like it didn't become one thing it was separate chicken, veggies and fries, ultimately we believe this was a sauce issue. Service was perfectly friendly and quick. Unfortunately we ate the chicken and threw everything else away.

Giant pile of greasy breading atop a grease soaked bun.
    Dan C.

I was extremely disappointed in the whole experience. I got the Nashville sandwich. If you like lots and lots of grease, salt and caked on breading, this is your dream sandwich. My first two bites were literally nothing but greasy fried breading. No chicken. I started peeling away the breading to get to some actual chicken and when I finally did find some chicken it was about 1/3 the size of the massive slab that I had originally received. They also have no ketchup or mayo but they do have some house sauces that they will sell you for an up charge of 75 cents to a dollar. The whole food hall was crowded and noisy with insufficient seating. The drink dispenser adjacent to this place was out of order so they directed us to an another dispenser at the far end of the hall. Oh, and they messed up our fries order as well. Will not be giving this place a second chance.

    Medium heat chicken
    Jason V.

One of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had! I'll explain...I ate here twice. The first time I had the medium chicken sandwich. What they do is they divide it by heat level. This was the middle of five different levels. The worker kept telling me over and over that it is the most common one and the top two levels are dangerous hot! The next night I was with a friend of mine - and we both had the fourth level hot sandwiches. I'm not gonna lie, my mouth was on fire for a few minutes! They give you a choice of sauce, and both times I selected some sort of lemon sauce with lettuce and pickles. I had fries both times. They had a can of soda, since all the fountain drinks were temporarily suspended due to Covid-19. If you're into HOT chicken, this is the place to go!

    Tender
    Kevin S.

Great Nashville style fried chicken. Have been meaning to try this place for a while and finally got around to it. This place serves all types of fried chicken, tenders, a sandwich with a filet, and even wings/drumsticks! Since it's such a trek to get to Tulsa from anywhere in the four states area I had to order everything. The spice level is serious here and I was reaching for my 32oz water bottle often with the spicy wing and drum I got. The tender was amazing as well and a lot more tolerable. Breading is nice and crisp while keeping the meat inside soft and tender. The sandwich also had a great slaw that made it fresh with a different crunch. The sandwich comes with your standard cayenne seasoned crinkle cut fries. This place is located in a food court with both indoor and outdoor dining. It can get cold outdoors during the fall and they didn't have any heaters on. Definitely recommend coming here for any chicken (especially Nashville) aficionados.

    Leslie P.

I ordered the Nashville fried chicken sandwich. It had the chicken, coleslaw and pickles and brioche bun. The chicken was a very large piece, but it wasn't that juicy. The pickles were sliced the long way, and I got the end pieces. That means it was all cucumber skin, and chewy, instead of crunchy. The coleslaw was good. The sandwich overall was decent, but I've had a lot better at home. The worst part was the side of fries that came with it. The fries were cold when I got it, and they were a bit hard. You know how leftover fries dry up a d gets chewy? That's how these were. So disappointed.

OG chicken sandwich. Hot heat level.
    Rendon F.

Came to Mother Road Market and decided on eating here. I ordered the OG chicken sandwich without pickles. I got the hot heat level on the chicken. I also got a side of French fries. It was all delicious. It was spicy but it didn't ruin the meal for me. And the fries were great as well. Very delicious meal. Staff was also very friendly. Would recommend.

I also accidentally left my credit card behind and did not realize it until about an hour and a half later. I called the restaurant, and the management immediately helped resolve the issue. They kindly arranged to mail it to my home in Los Angeles, and I have now received it safely. That level of honesty and customer care is rare. A special thank you to the management for handling everything so professionally, and to Heather for her kindness, attentiveness, and outstanding service. We had a reservation, arrived on time, and were told our table wasn't ready. It was a beautiful evening and we weren't in a rush, so no issue there. When an outdoor table opened up, we waited for it to be cleared. My husband went back inside to let the hostesses know we'd be sitting outside instead, and they said that was fine. I had actually tried to reserve an outdoor table earlier and was told they were first-come, first-served, so this seemed perfectly reasonable. Unfortunately, things quickly went downhill. A waitress came out and told us we couldn't sit there. We explained the situation, and she became visibly irritated and went inside. Another staff member came out and insisted we hadn't checked in at the hostess stand. When I explained again that we had, she repeatedly implied we were lying, even stating she had been at the stand. Both my husband and I had spoken to the hostesses, so this was confusing and frankly inappropriate. I firmly offered to go inside to clear it up with the hostesses, but she continued to question our honesty. At that point, my husband asked her to be nice, and she walked away. Meanwhile, the guests at the table next to us commented on how poorly we were being treated, which validated how strange the situation felt. We befriended them and talked and laughed while we waited. 20 minutes - no menus or drinks. My husband went inside and asked for a manager. 30 minutes - nothing. 40 minutes - still nothing. When I asked a server, she told me the manager was the same person I had "yelled at" (which was actually kind of humorous because though I was firm, I did not yell). She then told us the only other option was to speak to the owner, adding that he would likely just ask us to leave. At that point, we called a friend who is a well-known and respected local chef. He said this experience didn't surprise him and described ongoing issues with the owner/chef at Stonehorse. He stated, "He's a talented chef, but has horrible management and customer service skills." Interestingly, the regulars sitting next to us said the same. What's most telling is that we tried this restaurant a few months ago and left before being seated because the atmosphere felt negative. No one was smiling, and the energy was off. After tonight, it makes sense. It's unfortunate, because the location is great and the food may be as well, but leadership sets the tone, and it shows. This was hands down the worst dining experience we've had, and I would strongly caution others before going.
