    Roach

I see why no one dines in. There was a roach in the dinning booth. Customer service was terrible, the lady was watching tv instead of trying to assist with our order. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom in all of the stalls! No complains on the food.

The menu items are delicious...especially the chicken. I've been here a few times to pick up my family's 'Sunday Dinner' in a large box with a gallon of tea to go. This grandma in the kitchen type food for sure. O like the artist paintings on the walls. I just wish they would work on the parking lot, they need friendlier staff and improve on the esthetics.

I always enjoyed the chicken from this place. Order a dark chicken platter with cabbage and dressing, with a Lemonade and a slice of sweet potato pie. I opened the paper bag that was stapled shut, I assume for safety reasons and to keep the safety of the order, but the styrofoam platter was on its side in a plastic bag with the pie floating in the liquid from the cabbage. The slice of pie was soaked through the Saran Wrap with the cabbage use. The dressing was also soaked with cabbage juice. Let's not even get into the corn muffin that wasn't a muffin but maybe supposed to be a slice of cornbread. It was so thin it tasted like burnt crust. This order was missing my drink. Needless to say I was not satisfied. I'm not sure if it was the person that packed the order in the restaurant or the Uber driver carrying it. Totally dissatisfied with the meal. I wanted to give them a chance but if I ever decide to order from here, I'll think about ordering doing take out picking it up myself.

Overall it was a dope spot. I kept being asked to go there so I finally went. I love the inside, has some Dope paintings all around. I ordered the chicken an fish combo. Overall it wasn't bad. I would go again

Oh Chicken Box Cafe ! After having my best friend tell me how good Chicken Box was & that he has been going there since HS, I had to give them a try. He did however let me taste their broccoli casserole once which was so delicious I wanted to swipe up his whole meal. On my own personal visit, I ordered 2 piece dark, black-eyed peas with rice & fried okra. Now friend! If I had the ability to I would eat there every single day -- yes it's that good! I've been in Charlotte almost a year and for the first time I've actually found a soulful place I can vouch for & recommend. Lucky me, it's only 10 minutes away from my home so I will most definitely be back to try other menu items. Even if I was clear on the other side of town I would still stop by seeing as it is the only location anyways. Let's not forget their lemonade & sweet tea (free at check-in) they have just the right amount of sweetness needed to go with a fresh & tasteful meal. Not to add the food is CHEAP ! During COVID, they have pick-up only so I HIGHLY recommend calling ahead to place your order.

    Turkey Wings Dinner

Food hot and fresh just don't like how my napkins where on top of my food making them greasy. I am from Memphis so I'm use to some real good seasoned soul food it was different.. won't suggest the Mac and cheese turkey wings not bad but I don't like the rice with it.. turkey wings with cornbread dressings is what I normally put with turkey wings but guess I have to get use to the North Carolina cooking..

Food Awesome Delivery was Fast.I eat here often and never have any issues. Although I like my Maccaroni better,I Would Highly recommend.

Fried chicken dinner, dark meat, potato salad and collard greens

It really is not very impressive on the outside, having been a staple in the local Charlotte community for years; however its like a long lost family member I wanted to check in and see how they were doing. Specialties are southern food favorites: fried, baked chicken or pork chops or seafood. Service: very quick. Due to COVID19 there is only take-out no more dining room. The clerk was attentive and quick. Contactless payments and staff was behind a plexi glass shield at each of the stations. Food: fried chicken dinner with collard greens, potato salad and a roll. Everything was nicely seasoned with good proportions. Price: Dinner for 2 less than $30. Multiple dinner options and even several veggie plate specials

    Gizzards and fries.

We started with the hush puppies and raw oysters. The mignonette was really interesting, chunky with apples (I think?). It wasn't really my thing personally, but definitely unique. The hush puppies came out HOT and crispy with a honey sauce. You can also get them dusted with cinnamon and sugar, which I thought was a fun option. For lunch, I went with the pecan crusted catfish with oven baked mac and cheese and collard greens. The catfish was SO crispy but still delicate inside, and that pecan topping was delicious. The mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy with a bubbly, crunchy top. The collard greens were perfectly seasoned. Sometimes collards can be way too vinegar heavy, but these had a really nice balance. Everything came out HOT, which I always appreciate. Really enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere here!

There were several "reserved" tables that remained empty until after we had finished eating, so I think the restaurant could benefit from a better reservation system with more accurate buffer times to accommodate walk-in guests. The fried chicken and waffles were perfectly seasoned, and the waffle had a unique texture and flavor that reminded me of a combination of a traditional waffle and a soft pretzel. The cheesy potato cake was absolutely delicious. The fruit bowl was also good, but I wish they had been a little more generous with the blueberry pudding. The shrimp and grits came with large tomatoes, which may not be for everyone, and my friend felt the dish was lacking grits overall. She didn't feel like she got her money's worth. Would I go back? We came for brunch and they almost had to roll us out of there. They passed around oysters, shrimp cocktail and grilled pineapple with honey. In the middle they had lobster deviled eggs, assorted tea sandwiches and a small section with desserts. Everything was delicious and made with fresh ingredients. They barely brought around food like the French toast bites. They kept bringing around oysters and literally no table wanted them that I saw. It wasn't that busy either, tons of empty tables. Instead they held off the arguably best dish of the house: French toast bites. We FINALLY got them at the end of our meal before we left but had to stalk the waiter for them. For $78 there should be way more rotations of the better dishes. Our waiter was great and atmosphere is gorgeous. Playing, food quality and everything was average. The highlight was the poached eggs, eggs Benedict, bacon, potatoes, skewers and everything else was okay. Not better than like Golden Corral or a standard buffet. My opinion is skip the brunch for that price, unless you really like oysters LOL. Also if I had little kids, would never waste money on brunch here.
