Good choice for combo meals with your choice of sides and you get a cornbread which I did not really like as it had some kind of flavoring/seasoning that did not work for me. To me cornbread is cornbread, butter and some honey! Chicken was well cooked not really amazing but good, the peach cobbler that I ordered was stuffed into a small container and was well not bad tasting, but very paste like, mixed together, the crust was wet as it was stuffed into a styro container. This was my 3rd time eating here and they never disappoints. It's definitely not the nicest looking restaurant on the outside but the food makes up for that. This time I got the 2pc fried chicken dinner with macaroni and cheese and candied yams. The fried chicken is always crispy and tender. Some of the BEST fried chicken in town. The macaroni and cheese was very flavorful as well. However, I was not very impressed with the candied yams. Next time, I will stick with the fries which are well seasoned. Saw this place posted as one of the best places to get fried chicken so I had to see for myself. Yes, they do, in fact, have great fried chicken. The chicken breast had A LOT of meat and was very crispy. It was just a tad greasy... not too bad, but the grease did revisit me 2 hours later lol. I asked for the broccoli casserole and candied yams for sides. The sides containers were very small in the to-go box. But I still was really full after eating due to that huge piece of chicken. I got the 2 pc white meat dinner for $9.50. It came with choice of 2 sides and choice of roll, hush puppies, or cornbread muffin. I got the muffin and it was great. Unfortunately, they gave me the wrong side. They gave me cooked cabbage instead of broccoli casserole. The menu is really extensive for your soul food favorites: meatloaf, fried whiting, chicken feet, turkey neck, yep they probably have it all. I really liked the interior. Three of us dined here for a late lunch on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. My daughter highly suggested we try this place and I'm so glad she did! I guess a restaurant is doing pretty good if they open a second location. The Chicken Box 2 is beside the Cookout on Sugar Creek, and I must say its a nice size location, I think it's an old Shoney's or something but it's very roomy for those dining in. They have the same menu and are open 7 days a week and have added a tasty looking breakfast menu that includes chicken and waffles(mental note to try as my eyes widened), pancakes, omelette's, platters, sandwiches, etc. I may go as far to say that I thought the food was better compared to the Tryon street location, but I'll have to confirm that on my next trip. The only bad thing I can say is that Chicken Box is an 1.5 hour drive from my home. But, it gives me a reason to come back to Charlotte. I have not had fried chicken this good in more years than I can remember. The batter was light crunchy batter encapsulated the moist flavor chicken. What an explosion of goodness with every bite. Very low key restaurant that allows their food to speak volumes. I truly enjoyed my meal as did my wife and son. This is now our goto chicken place every time we are in or near Charlotte!!!! Not sure if I will return due to the sheer disorder and hassle just to order a meal. There was a line out the door. They appeared to be understaffed. There were several unhappy customers who either had been waiting a long time or their orders were wrong. I waited about 20 minutes. I'm not sure if any of the staff really want to be there. They looked so unhappy, lethargic, slothful and lost. No sense of urgency. There is a wait but i don't understand why. I try my best to support Black businesses but it's like we're punished with horrible service and long waits. I hope they can get it together.
