My bf and I were craving fried chicken but did not feel like dealing with the 1+ hr wait at Howlin Rays. We remembered passing by this spot when we're in Alhambra and decided to give it a try. There's a parking lot behind 85C and we just walked over. We decided to order on the large screen so we could take our time browsing. He got the spicy chicken bun combo with waffle fries and I got the chicken tenders combo with curly fries and we got a popcorn chicken to share. Inside was clean and about 5 tables available for casual dine in. Chicken tenders (3/5): did not like that they charge an extra $1 to add spice. There was not much flavor and I don't like mayo based sauces so I used BBQ. Could have used some salt and the chicken got a little soggy on the bottom. Fries (3.5/5): curly fries get a 4 and waffle gets a 3 so that's the average. Nothing super special, they were fresh though. Popcorn chicken (4/5): prob the best item that we ordered. Super crispy and fresh. It had more flavor to it than the tenders. My bf said the spicy chicken bun was ok, but the spice masked most of the flavor and that's all he could taste. He did like the sauce tho and compared it to raising canes. I probably don't like it as much as I'm not a huge fan of raising canes either since it seems like ppl really like it for the sauce which I don't care for. Service was also pretty meh, it took quite a while for our order and the cashier forgot to give us our fountain drink cups until we asked. They offer white and dark meat options, as well spicy and non-spicy, so you can enjoy your chicken sandwich however you'd like. Came by around 5PM on a weekday and it was surprisingly empty with a couple of doordashed/to-go orders. We tried their chicken sandwich, New Orleans chicken wings, mac salad and waffle fries. My boyfriend really enjoyed their chicken sandwich and was even debating on ordering more for to-go. It's fairly easy to do, except I didn't realize it required a signature on that kiosk screen if you use a credit card. That part was a bit confusing. The sandwich itself was decent. They accommodate for no onion by putting fresh cabbage (instead of just getting rid of the slaw completely). Gesture is appreciated. The pickle is pretty weak. Don't really taste like much. Can live without it. The regular fries is crinkle cut and they mix in some black pepper, which has a nice taste to it. The curly fries (surprised they serve curly fries!) is average and delicious. The sandwich box is such good quality box. They're thick cardboard. Pay attention to top left corner; that's where they indicate W or D for white and dark meat (if you order multiples in the party). The tray is gold! This is a joint that cares about branding and presentation!! The food did take quite a bit to come out, but it's so worth it! This is not fast food. Yummy! Chicken Bun Bun has a special sauce/Mayonnaise that is unique and very tasty. It surprised me and my coworkers. It has a sweetness and certain deliciousness that I have only tasted here. Pair that with their tender crispy chicken and their sandwich is well worth it. The bun doesn't get soggy quickly so there's not much cons to this chicken sando place. Food wise, yes stop by here and get you this juiciness of a crunchy chicken sandwich or chicken quarters. I got the number 1 and it was pretty tasty. You know a fried chicken spot is legit when you have to wait over 20 minute for your order. Just relax and listen to the Chinese pop music and get your major bite when it's piping hot. It burned my mouth from it still having the juices flowing from the hot meat. The crunch hits first, then the steam comes next, and if you're brave enough to pull the meat off the bones you're treated to a roller coaster of flavors from the fresh chicken and all the spices. I got one non spicy and one spicy. The spicy one is awesome. It did not disappoint with its heat. I say it's about 7.5-8 level heat. It hums a I little which to me is real heat, but not the gross I'm going to die kind of heat though. It burns a little after you eat but that's what you expect since your order spicy. Chicken Bun Bun is definitely a welcome addition to the plethora of chicken sandwiches in the area. They're located on Main Street, right past 2nd Street with street parking as well as several parking lots behind plazas. Menu is fairly basic - they offer a regular crispy chicken, a spicy crispy chicken, grilled chicken, and walnut shrimp. You can get these on a bun or eat them bunless; they also have wings, wraps, and a variety of sides. You can either order the chicken sandwich by itself or as a combo where you get fries and a drink for an additional $3.49. I tried the original crispy chicken on a bun, making it a combo but replacing the fries with waffle fries for an additional price. Price isn't too bad - the sandwich was $7.99 and the combo came out to around $4 more. I definitely enjoyed the waffle fries. They were super crispy yet warm and fluffy on the inside - the taste was reminiscent to the fries from Chicken Now. The only negative comment was that the portions were kind of small; maybe because the waffle fries are kind of large, the box couldn't fit too many, but I felt like I went through the waffle fries quickly. As for the chicken sandwich - I didn't eat this until maybe about 15 minutes later and it was still super crispy and retained that nice "crunch" as I bit into it. The sandwich came with some pickles and coleslaw and a thick slab of chicken sitting between a brioche type bread. Not exactly sure what kind of bread except that it didn't get soggy and was super airy, even when I finished the sandwich several hours later. The chicken itself reminded me of the thick chicken pieces you can get from Taiwanese night markets - the breading is crumbly and crispy, but once you get inside and eat the crispiness and the juiciness of the chicken, it tastes pretty amazing. And they give you a fairly huge cup for soda - which was perfect on a hot day to complement the chicken and fries. I really liked the packaging of the box, bag - the store itself was clean with several tables. Definitely will return to try that spicy crispy chicken sandwich. Though the chicken was crispy and juicy, the seasoning lacked depth. It tasted just peppery to me and the coleslaw almost tasted store bought. The chicken was so moist and crunchy and not dry at all. You have the option of either dark or white meat when you order. I definitely recommend trying the onion rings, they're so good. Everything came out fresh and was only about a 5-10 minute wait after I ordered. They also have teas available to buy here as they partnered with tea station, I wasn't able to try any teas this time, but it's probably worth a try!
