Health Inspector needs to put them on high alert! This grossly violates the Health and Safety Code in many cases! This is not the first and will not be the last complaint. I was customer number one at the DS Chicken Express. You know that day. 20 extra people to assist; corporate brass in suits walking around kissing your booty making sure your first impression was a good one. Every item cooked to perfection. Its always 5 stars on that day especially in a small town where restaurants can be counted on two hands. That first impression has since been forgotten. I quite sure the entire starting staff is gone. Best thing I can say is they do seem to keep the place clean. Today's visit was in fact the worst meal I've had since it opened. A 4 piece tenders with fries and a dinner roll to celebrate my kiddo's success at school. Tenders were barely warm and dried out by the heat lamps. Gravy was barely warm. And if that wouldn't piss you off I bit into a bone in a chicken tender. The staff barely acknowledged my complaint and didn't offer to replace any portion of my meal. Hit the spot! I just stopped by for a quick lunch here. I ordered the 4-piece spicy tender combo with a biscuit and mashed potatoes. Did not disappoint! The chicken was cooked to perfection. The spiciness was spot on. Didn't expect much based on the reviews but I was very surprised to have enjoyed it as much as I did. I get it. It's fried food, but come on. Incredibly greasy fried chicken is awful, even the tiny cold biscuit was greasy. The famous sweet tea was nothing but sugar water, and my biggest disappointment was the cold, soggy apple pie. read more

This is my daughters favorite chicken spot. We affectionately call it the "dead chicken" place, cause of the rubber chicken logo. Why do we both love it? For fast food chicken, it's pretty tasty. The chicken is always cooked well to leave the meat most inside the crust. All of the sides are really delicious, and you can't hate a place that serves fried okra. Their tea is always freshly brewed. The rolls are buttery and airy. And? It's really freaking cheap. My daughter and I split the combo and order an additional side and drink... all for about $10. Every time I come here, the place is spotless. In fact there is a guy cleaning every table here right now, and speaking to every customer. He is incredibly polite and respectful. I don't know his name but he has a word tattoo on his forearm.. great employee service that I've seen. We drove all the way from Wimberley just to eat it.. so you know it's good! read more

This place has had POOR quality of food since we've moved to dripping springs. Yeah, they must be "short staffed". Everyone is short staffed. It doesn't mean the quality of your food should be poor. This biscuit, for example, looked like it was either from yesterday or had been sitting there all day. The sweet tea tasted like sewage water (that's usually our favorite thing at chicken express), they were out of spicy tenders (aka probably didn't want to make any), and they also were out of Mac and cheese (but still rang me up for it). I usually don't mind long waits etc because of staffing shortages but this is just plain lazy and gross. There needs to be better management and staff accountability. read more

We usually pick up chicken here when we return from out of town. This time it was a disaster. Chicken was old and the rolls could be used as rocks. They were way over done, something that should have been thrown away. We understand the increase in prices but not the poor quality of the food they serve. No wonder they closed the lobby. I really wanted to like this place since it's the only fast food chicken place, except the one in the gas station, within miles. Actually, the chicken from the gas station is much better, but that's another review. The first time I tried this place, they told me it would be a 20-minute wait for my chicken order. Okay, it was Friday evening, so I agreed, paid for my order, then parked at the side as instructed to wait. After a 45-minute wait, my order came out, and it was horrible. The biscuit was old, stale, and hard as a brick, and the chicken was hot, but didn't taste fresh. So, I decided maybe it was just a tough night, and tried them again a few weeks later. This time, I went on a weekday, mid-afternoon, no line, and ordered the fried fish. They told me there would be a wait while they cooked it. Okay, not a problem. When I get to the window to pay, I asked for extra tarter sauce, and they said they were out of it. Really? How do you sell fish and not have this? So, I told them I wanted to change my order because I don't like fish unless I have tarter sauce. They were a little snotty about it, but agreed, and I got chicken instead. This time, the chicken was decent, but the biscuit was old, stale, and brick-hard. I tried them a third time, just ordered chicken and a biscuit, and the chicken was okay, but the biscuit was awful...again! They are very expensive, so I'm done. I went through the drive through the other day at 12:30 and ordered the tiger special which is the 5 chicken strips, a biscuit or roll and a side, I got the mashed potatoes and the biscuit and an extra side of fried pickles, the chicken strips were room temperature, the mashed potatoes were hardly warm, gravy was cold, the fried pickles were cold and soggy. The food used to be hot and good but lately they have been slacking on this, I was hoping by writing this review that maybe they will try to fix this and make food that's good again. read more

Yesterday, 1/29/2020, I stopped at the Chicken Express in Dripping Springs for takeout chicken. I ordered one 3 piece combo meal with a breast, thigh, and wing, and another combo meal with a breast and thigh. Both supposedly come with a biscuit. When I got home, one had a thigh and two wings, the other had a breast and a wing. Between the two only one biscuit total. What a shlock operation ! Half of their menuboard was missing and the place was empty at 5PM on a Wednesday... I can not believe what happened at our local Chicken Express. My mother and I ordered a family meal that came with two sides; we chose corn nuggets and fries. When we got home we had no fries, so we traveled back into town (we live 10 miles out) and we expected an apology and a bonus for our drive. But no, the employee just handed us our fries and left. Another female worker watched us leave, and as we were walking out, I hear her say "well it happens" in a bratty and sarcastic attitude.
