I love this places Jo Jos. They are big dense seasoned potatoe wedges served with a tasty thick ranch. The small order is the perfect amount for 1 person. They are connected to a bar so you can go to the bar place an order and enjoy a drink, a game of pool or video poker while you wait for your food. The fried chicken is superlative. Went in around noon for a late breakfast, I don't have a bad thing to say about my experience. I ordered a chicken breast and an ala cart waffle. The chicken was tender and juicy, with a nice crispy crust. They use a dry rub, that through some kind of kitchen magic, seasons the meat to the bone. My waffle was the big surprise, this was the holy grail of a scratch made waffle (not some generic Sysco mix) I think it was sourdough, or maybe they use a generous amount of buttermilk in the batter- whichever, it had a nice bit of tangy acidity to it. It was crispy on the outside, and deliciously chewy and moist on the inside. Another thing, people say it's a dive, but let me qualify that. Sure it looks like an old tavern from the outside, but inside it's clean as a whistle and nicely updated. Don't go here expecting some precious Portlandia nonsense, this is delicious food for real working people. We were waited on by the bartender, who was a lovely dude, and kept our drinks full, and table clean, all while tending to the bar and other tables. I plan to become a regular. (p.s. This place and the bar next door are connected on the inside. You can go back and forth between them and pay at the bar. The restaurant itself has very little seating and if anyone did use it, there would be no room to get around inside. there was plenty of seating over in the bar and that is where it looked like people were sitting to eat. We had the $8.25 fried chicken (leg, wing, thigh, breast), jo-jos, and macaroni salad. Just enough food for my girlfriend and I to split for lunch. Macaroni Salad: the typical stuff you would find at the supermarket. Jo-Jos: a whole huge baker potato split into quarters and deep fried. If they had been coated in the same stuff as the fried chicken then they would have been some of the best jo-jos i have ever had. still, they were good. they also came with some ranch. Fried Chicken: not too greasy, but it is fried chicken so there is grease. it was crispy, juicy, just a little spice, and not over cooked. overall it was good. I have had better, but i have found much much worse. Being part of the next door bar, this place is pretty good for bar food. for the price I really can not complain. Fried chicken. Yummy, non-healthy goodness. I also just really wanted some. Now let me clarify something about this place. The "Chicken Little" part of this places is little more than take-out. It is all part of the Hour Glass Pub which essentially is a dive bar with everything included seems to have been from the Baby Boomer generation (or earlier), customers included. But the beer is cheap and the staff are friendly. The chicken takes 20 minutes. Just wanted to give you that friendly warning. The chicken is pretty good. The Jo Jos were just large potato wedges, not chicken fried like others I've had and the slaw was pretty decent as well. The food was not that greasy either. The chicken could have used a bit more salt, but other than that, I was satisfied. We got the chicken and waffles and the 2 piece dinner. The salad that came with the dinner was just an iceberg mix from a package i think, but it was crisp. The jojo's that came with them were huge! It was basically a giant russet quartered and fried. We also tried the deep fried mushrooms, but they weren't that great. It seems like a lot of the food comes out of a frozen bag, but their chicken is good! Even the breast that came with the waffle dish was super, super tender and juicy. I usually always order dark meat when it comes to chicken, but this place would be an exception. The clam chowder was actually very good. Driving by on Glisan it appears to be closed...only 1 window and a door which doesn't seem like a entrance...more like the back door of the kitchen to a bar...and that's what it is. There's a small parking lot around the back (3spaces) and hardly any close street parking...reminds me of a corner store that sells fried food. Not a bad thing. We park and walk up clueless trying to figure out if we enter through the door from the parking lot, The one on the corner but when you look inside it's a bar with video poker machines and people sitting there and then you walk a little further and bam...it's Chicken Little! I was afraid to open the door because it looks like the wrong damn door...better signage people. There are 3 barstools up by the register but not for sitting...because if you were sitting there whoever came in order after you would have to look over you to order there's no room inside. Thank God no one was there. Lady (only cook) said hello and kept fixing plates. Waited about 2 minutes before she offered to take our order. Really cheap prices...reminds me of Jack's chicken over there on 9th & Alberta. I couldn't believe it $5.50 for 3 wings and Jo Jo's...that's what's up! So we waited 32 minutes and it was delicious! Ordered a 2 piece dinner served with French fries and my favorite Reesers potato salad!! Now I enjoyed my meal but the 3wings/oversized jojo's were terrible. My partner refused to eat. The wings were so small I wasn't sure it was the whole wing or the drumlette. The jojo's were the size of 1 whole sweet potato....not happy at all. Jack's chicken is 5 star compared to this. I'm giving Chicken Little 2 stars because the drinks were strong and the music was great. Other than that there's not much special about chicken little. My parter and I had a hankering for fried chicken and didn't feel like making it ourselves so we figured, why not? We both decided on the chicken and waffles. Let me tell you, I was not impressed. My partner who will eat just about anything and not complain, complained. That in itself speaks volumes. When I was a kid, my father used to drive me across town to get fried chicken on special occasions. You got good grades this term? You learned that drum solo? You finished the little league season? We went to Chicken Little. It's.been more than twenty years since I went and it hasn't changed a bit. The chicken is, for me at least, amazing. Seasoned well. But more importantly, perfectly cooked. Beautiful, deep golden brown on the outside and a perfect moist interior. So many places the chicken is overcooked or the beading is, but Chicken Little does it right. The menu is pretty basic. Macaroni salad, chicken, fries, Jo-jo's (each being almost a quarter of a potato) and the chicken. I think there was some other stuff on it, but it's all about the chicken. One of Montavilla's little secrets. I can't say much for the decor, but the fried chicken is THE BEST. I haven't had good Southern Style Pressure Cooked Fried chicken this good since I was back South. Don't let the place's outside freak you out. It's not fancy. It's just good. They cook to order. This is the best fried chicken in Portland. They deep fry, pressure cook the chicken and it always comes out delicious. In addition, the prices are great deal for the amount of chicken and sides you end up getting. I recommend either getting your order to go, or next door at the connected Hourglass Cafe, because the small counter area in Chicken Little's is pretty tiny. My favorite experience there, was getting a large order of chicken and jojos to go there one time. When we got back to the house, we were perplexed by the addition of a large soft drink cup amongst our order as none of us had ordered anything to drink. This is a hole-in-the-wall kind of place, BUT, they have really great chicken. Perfectly seasoned, juicy, and crispy (Yum!). Their coleslaw is not bad and their jojos are giant! I just moved a couple of blocks away from this place and I am SO happy I decided to try it today. I walked in the door- nothing special just a hole in the wall with three or four barstools. The cook was a sweetheart and told me that it would take 1/2hr to cook the food. Estatic (because GOOD and REAL fried chicken takes a while) I walked through the doorway that connects the chicken place to the bar next door and paid my $2.75 to the, also sweetheart of a man, bartender. When I got the chicken it was seasoned exceptionally, crisped to the juicest of juicy perfection and piping hot. Well my experience was fairly disappointing, so much so I decided to write my first YELP review, so I guess there's that. I am originally from the south and lived close to Louisiana so I grew up with fried chicken as a comfort food and so one Sunday after a long week I sought out a place and landed with chicken little. First off its very plain fried chicken. Yes, the skin is crisp and they did a great job frying it up, but not sure if there was any spice other than a little bit of salt and pepper, it was very bland! And considering I got dark meat, I would consider the meet dry by most standards. But still the chicken was okay; it was the service I got that made me crazy. At a non-peak hour and only one customer in front of us we waited almost 30 minutes for our chicken, so by that time we had gone to the bar next door. Then once finished I literally had to chases down the waitress who brought the food out and throw my money at her for her to take it. I could tell a lot of regulars come in and because I wasn't a regular and was under 55 years of age she didn't want to have anything to do with me. Right idea, poor execution. read more

The chicken was Not as good as ANY of the grocery store deli fried chickens I've ever had. The chicken itself tasted....not good. At best , I could describe the meat as "industrial". It was overly salty, not well spiced, kinda bland. I didn't finish my breast and I ALWAYS finish my food. The SALAD: chopped iceberg lettuce with chopped tomato bits in it, put in a Styrofoam box. Always made to order and perfectly cooked - the skin is crispy and the meat is juicy for all 4 pieces, and perfectly, simply seasoned - no weird try-hard cheffy stuff here. I skip the jojos and get a double order of their super fresh and crunchy made-in-house coleslaw. When I'm feeling extra hungry/naughty I ass the gizzards or the steak fingers. I will go out of my way to eat this place. I'm not much of a yelp reviewer, but I really do enjoy the fried chicken here so I had to comment. I'm also picking this up tonight as a birthday treat. Basically... whenever I see fried chicken on a menu... it usually ends up being a chicken breast, battered, and perhaps fried... but it's like an oversized chicken nugget, or tasty baked chicken. Boring. It always tastes like just chicken. Chicken little is hooked up. If you go into the "restaurant" to order, you'll immediately get how legit this place is. I'm from KY and this place just feels like home. Right down to the wood panel walls, log tables, and air brush photos of the managers and staff hanging behind the bar. The chicken takes about 20 minutes because they are cooking it like a boss. The jo-jo's are almost comically large and taste like a mastermind combination of a crunchy french fry and the classic baked potato. A must have for the full experience (but feel free to skip the ranch) I always hear of people telling me, "Oh such and such has great fried chicken..." they are typically wrong. They typically have boring battered chicken and you have been deprived to think that is good. I would say to take this with a grain of salt as I am such a fan of this place and not so much a connoisseur, but honestly I have yet to find a substitute or anything comparable to the experience they offer here. But to top it all off, there's a lunch special (at least on Saturday there was) with a leg, thigh & waffle for $5. WHAT? yup. Or you can get a breast instead. The place itself is quite odd and tiny - there may be 2 or three bar stools, but not really room to actually sit. Is it a clean establishment..? Hell if I know.
