This place did not live up to the hype. I got a catfish sandwich, okra and collards. The catfish was bland and needed more seasoning in the fry batter and the okra was like eating blobs of oil and had no crispness to them at all. We went to this amazing gem while we were visiting from Denver. My cousin highly recommend it and in did NOT disappoint! The staff were very friendly and efficient, and the menu is very reasonably priced. The food...THE FOOD!!! The chicken was incredible, well seasoned and was juicy, tender, not greasy at all. I had the baked beans, which have a great flavor with a perfect hint of vinegar. I am a notorious baked beans snob and other than my own, these were the best I've ever had. The red beans are rice were also incredible, again perfectly seasoned and very flavorful. My wife had the ribs, which were tender but not mushy, the sauce was not too sweet either, so I would also recommend them. Finally we split a peach cobbler with ice cream, it's a religious experience that shouldn't be missed. There aren't a lot of frills, roll of paper towels on each table, soda by the can,etc. But I really think that adds to its charm and character. As well as a huge baseball fan, all the baseball pictures of a lot of the African American early pioneers, like Jackie Robinson, Satchel Paige, and Roy Campanella, I absolutely love and is another feather in this restaurant's cap. Nice LITTLE southern style restaurant with a BIG menu. I ordered the 2 piece fried chicken (breast & wing) mashed potatoes w/gravy, coleslaw & roll. The chicken was cooked to perfection and was really crunchy and juicy, the coleslaw was spot on, and was really good. I wish I could say the same for the mashed potatoes w/gravy. The mashed potatoes tasted as if they were instant, and the gravy seemed to be made from an instant powder mix envelope. My woman ordered the fried catfish, which she said was really good as well as the baked beans and chili. PS. the Sweet Tea isn't made in house, like traditional southern resturants, instead they serve Arizona brand sweet tea from a can. Stopped at this spot before Gonzaga game. Glad we did! Food was great and service was awesome. I had the catfish with hush puppies and Gumbo. Catfish was seasoned well, crispy, and perfectly cooked. I hate to rain on the fried chicken parade going on at Chicken n' Mo but I must speak the truth! First off, the store itself has quite the location in Sprague & Stevens--a lil shady and dive'ish. All of which adds to the flavor :) I wish I could review the fried chicken ONLY and my rating would be much higher. Here's the problem--this eatery serves ribs, multiple sides and sammiches and most are sub-par. I ordered 8 piece chicken and 2 ribs--for the grand total of $30.04 thats right folks, no sides, no drinks, no dessert. Literally 8 pieces of fried chicken and two ribs--horribly overpriced when compared with other joints/deli's serving fried chicken. When inquiring about the "southern style" side dishes, I was disappointed to discover that each side dish originated from a can or pre-packed container. Nothing is fresh. The greens are from the can and spices are then added. The baked beans are canned with BBQ sauce added. Mac & potato salad are reesers which can be bought for half the price at any grocery store. When I think southern cookin', I believe in scratch made fixins to go with the chicken & ribs. Now onto the ribs, $3.69 for one rib seems a lil spendy but I went for it. The ribs have a good taste but were tough to chew and dry on the inside. The chicken might have been twice the cost versus the larger chicken joints, but was it twice as good? Damn near... The chicken is crispy, tender and juicy. A tad greasy on the fingers but that comes with the fried chicken territory. Would I have rather stopped at Albertson's or Fred Meyer and grabbed 8 pieces for less than 10 bucks or spend 18.99 for the 8 piece at Chicken n Mo? Sadly, my answer would be yes. Having eaten BBQ from all over the country including Texas, the fried chicken here can compete with any place in the world. The owners are actually transplants from Texas and have brought along their recipes and cooking skills, as well as being very polite and nice people. I had the fried chicken and two sides, the collard greens and baked beans. The chicken was moist and flavorful. Too often places will serve chicken meat that's either too dry or moist meat that's under cooked. The chicken was perfect. They also produce their own BBQ sauce also which was very good when tried with the chicken. The beans and the collard greens were decent, and not too sour. I work about two blocks down from this place so i decided to take a stroll and get some BBQ for lunch. First time here and three months living in Airway Heights and I have to say my whole 26 years of life i have never tasted a BBQ sauce this good ( is that to over the top :) haha). I am serious when i say that, Bob's spicy bbq sauce truly had its kick and if anyone follows me on Yelp knows i love my food spicy. I regret not buying a bottle but you can order it online as well. It is a small spot downtown but the sign is big enough to see. Not a lot of seating inside but, i really like the feel of this place makes me feel at home. the smells of the place are awsome as well. I walk in and Bob really made me feel at home and comfortable, i think we talked to much that his daughter was heard yelling at him to get started on my sandwich because they had other orders to fill lol. Small town i guess since i did find out his sons once worked where my husband does know and they have already met each other at one point. I am sure they are just a friendly as Bob is. I ordered the potato salad and the bbq beef sandwich with spicy bbq sauce on the side, I at it all and still managed to scrape up the last bits of sauce, i loved it. so much beef packed into the sandwich, so be careful eating it as you will get messy. It is a seat yourself joint with a counter to order. Looked like there is normally a line but it was short. My GF and I decided to get the chicken, ribs, Slaw and mac salad. Here is the breakdown 1.) No joke, this place has it down to an art. Everything there is always amazing, delicious, and perfect! I have only ever had a few not so good ribs there, but the owner is always nice and he will come to your table and chat you up, and make sure you're satisfied with your food. Half of the fun of this place was how friendly the owners were, we had a group of about 10 in there just before they closed and we chatted it up. Very nice people. I said it was good for groups, but they don't have a whole lot of seating, so if it's at all busy, a group of more than 10 people might have a bit of trouble. Also, if you're in a hurry, it wont be good because they take their time making the food.
