Why this place is busy I cannot understand. Perhaps people are desperate or just don't know what good pho is supposed to be. I ordered a large bowl of mixed soup. The extra basil was less than a good restaurant provides. The bean sprouts were almost cooked, being served on a hot plate. With the exception of good beef balls, the amount of meat items was low and worse, the noodles were cook within an inch of their life. As I looked around to others eating soup, I noted that this must be how they think noodles should be cooked...a glutinous mushy mess. I can't speak for other dishes, but if you want pho, this is a terrible choice. read more

It's a no frills pho place. I liked it while others say broth is bland. I actually think it's quite nice as I don't like all the salt and extra flavoring. Seems to be good free range chicken soup to me. Love the chicken as well. We asked for this ginger sauce on the side that usually comes with hainanese chicken dish. Great flavor Hubby got the chicken chop rice dish also good and simple. We also got watermelon juice and strawberry juice with no sugar added. Watermelon one is naturally sweet. This is the perfect place for a hearty bowl of chicken noodle soup on those cold, winter nights! We visited around 6 pm dinner time on a Wednesday night, not busy at all. I can imagine this place gets pretty packed on the weekends though. Since it was our first time, we didn't want to venture into any risky orders, so we ordered the chicken noodle soup (probably classic - hint hint name of the restaurant). I was amazed at the amount of delicious chicken in the soup, the kind where your traditional Chinese mom needs to slowly prepare from scratch by slowly poaching above boiling water at home! So wholesome and healthy! Not sure if the soup is 100% fresh chicken stock, tasted a little MSG, but still delicious. There is plenty of parking in Millbrae, either street parking or public lots (there's also more parking further down towards Safeway). Slow service given only one front staff. menu is limited to porridge, basic noodle soups (no pho or Vietnamese food before 11am), rice noodle rolls, and some breakfast sandwiches. I ordered the preserved vegetable and pork noodle soup with no fun. Ho fun is of the rehydrated dry instant type, not fresh. Taste is decent for the price of nine bucks, with a subtle honey made taste. Nothing spectular although, I though the rice roll plain was made quite well as it was quite silky. I've been here for lunch with it's regular menu and thought the pho and other noodle bowls were decent, nothing stood out or would make me come back. 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars for good service during covid!! A student recommended that I try this place out since she eats takeout from here often. She raved about it so much that I purposely stopped by with my fiancé one day to try it. We were greeted by a kind woman who seemed to be the only one bussing tables, taking orders, and running the front. She was nice and definitely working hard. Cantonese and mandarin speaking folks here, FYI! We obviously came here for the chicken pho and we enjoyed it! A pretty comforting meal that is delicious for a cold afternoon! I liked how there were light and dark meats of the chicken. The broth was nice and not too oily or salty. I loved how fresh the noodles tasted. We both ordered smalls and were content after! What surprised us was how spicy the red pepper was.. oh! We also wanted to try their egg roll but they ran out of the oil or something for that so we decided not to get anything else. Hopefully next time they'll have it but we may not want to go out of our comfort zone to try something else since they're known for the chicken pho anyways. For the price, not too bad. We had the Hainan Chicken with Rice at least twice at this restaurant. Both times there were very few chicken pieces, mostly bones and the chicken was quite tough. Usually at other restaurants, the same dish features tender chicken pieces with very good and tender yellow rice. Here the rice is sort of dry and more brownish looking. The restaurant is also not very clean, especially its restroom. Sometimes I wonder if the restaurant inspectors ever visit this restaurant. read more

Walking down the main drag there were so many places to sit down and eat. I read some reviews on Chicken pho you & got in before they closed the restaurant (didn't check the times whoops). I had quick service & my order came out quickly too. The vermicelli noodles were amazing, flavors made my mouth dance, and to top it off i had the most delicious steamed chicken dumplings!! 10/10 recommend this local spot for dynamite food and quick service. read more

When it's cold and raining, you get a craving for hot soupy things. The chicken noodle soup is the best item on the menu. The chicken in the chicken noodle soup is shredded, the broth had good flavor, and they use rice noodles (ho funn). I came during lunch and the restaurant was full but they still got my food out in a reasonable amount of time. The interior of the restaurant could use a new coat of paint and some new furniture. If you're bringing young kids, it might be best to have them sit on the aisle versus being next to the wall and the condiments. Some of those condiment bottles looked sticky so I didn't use them. Just come in, eat the chicken noodle soup, and go; don't look at anything else or use the restroom. read more

HORRIBLE. I asked my wife to order the imperial rolls for me. What I got was Costco egg rolls from this place. So I ask you, if they are willing to screw a customer over like that, shouldn't you be concerned about how they will not care if a bowl is clean or if something fell on the floor or if something has gone a little bad. They have zero standards. If you eat here I question your personal standards or lack there of. These are clearly people that don't care about their product and will serve whatever gets them paid. To me, you are a fool to eat at this place. Clearly just another place with ZERO standards and ZERO care for the customers they require to survive. So willing to rip people off without any care. These are not the people you want making your food. There are so many much better places. Places that actually appreciate their customers and places that respect and take pride in their dishes. Awful experience. No star pho you. Completely mismanaged. I sit here writing this as it took 15 minutes to take our order, another 30 minutes to get the food, tea came after we finished eating, and now another 30 minutes to get a check. I ordered porridge. Tasteless. I can't believe people are waiting to get a seat... oh wait, it makes sense because it took so long to get the food. I also counted 5 come from the kitchen, watching leisurely as they drink their tea. Every time we asked for something, the response was, "be patient" in canto. What a difference a location makes. I tried the San Mateo on B Street a few months ago and thought I found a pretty good alternative for my beloved Hainan chicken. I had valid reason to believe I'd be receiving the same level of quality at their Millbrae location on Broadway. No such luck even though the place was bustling with customers during the lunch hour, so much so that I had to wait ten minutes for a shared table, an eternity in a suburban operation like this spot. Most were there for the pho bowls, their specialty judging from the constant slurping. Of course I ordered the steamed chicken described generically as the $10.95 Half Chicken (photo: http://bit.ly/2LQoSHV). Somehow it was somewhat undercooked, not salmonella level but chewier than it needed to be, for sure. I was bummed, and it was only slightly offset by the $7.95 plate of Blanched Chinese Greens with Garlic (photo: http://bit.ly/2Rs8RNO). I actually ordered the blanched lettuce but I wasn't in the mood to complain about it. I frankly just wanted to leave at that point. I was on a "diet" so instead of ordering pho, I opted for some spring rolls. I totally expected it to come with peanut sauce, but I got fish sauce instead? The spring rolls were humungo because they stuffed it with vermicelli noodles so it was quite difficult to eat. They definitely skimped out on the shrimp and pork. Also the lettuce didn't seem very fresh. They tasted fine with fish sauce, but I just wanted some quality normal sized spring rolls. I should've ordered pho haha. I visited to the store a lot during last 3 years and today is my first day ordering delivery from them. Very disappointed. Noodles broke into small pieces and I just got 1 piece of shrimp cake from them. From both pictures and word description, there will be at least 4 pieces and lettuce. I don't even get the lettuce. Just 1 single piece left in the box. Feeling unsafe about this order, seems like someone stole to eat. This place gives a very homey feel (at least for an asian) and sure enough they also have great comfort food. As implied by their name, their signature dish is the chicken pho. However, I feel that all their chicken dishes are pretty delicious. For example, their chicken porridge is simple, but the perfect comfort dish. Do be careful of portion size though because I ordered the Imperial Egg Rolls and they were significantly smaller compared to what they advertised on their menu. Great value HK style congee breakfast set with steamed roll rice noodle. It's usually packed in the morning. It's near impossible to find that kind of breakfast and at that value in the Peninsula. Highly recommended if you like congee and rice noodle rolls for breakfast. To go breakfast order takes over 20-30 min easily so be ready so call in early before you start driving. The beef congee with a raw egg is my favorite. (The egg will be cooked inside the congee as you stir. Don't worry.) read more

Restaurant was crowded and only one person was working. I ordered fresh shrimp spring rolls and waited around 40 minutes (which wasn't surprised because of the amount of people and 1 server). However, what came out was NOTHING like what I had ordered. The picture of the spring rolls on the menu was not at all what arrived. When I told the lady that the wrong order came out, she said "oh, we don't have fresh spring rolls right now" she tells me 40 minutes later and a completely different order... she encouraged me to still give the food a try. Been a while since I been here. Staff and service is as good and quick as I remembered but the quality of the chicken in the chicken pho is noticeably worse. The chicken noodle soup is decent, pretty average. I noticed that ordering chicken noodle soup will not come with bean sprouts (many other places will still offer you this). If you order the typical beef broth pho, it will come with the sprouts. The broth isn't very strong/concentrated, it's hot but not incredibly flavorful. There's lots of small shreds of chicken which was both tough and tender. The rice noodles were pretty good, they are the thick kind and were cooked well (not overcooked). Overall the noodle soup was okay, slightly bland and boring, but if you need a hot soup noodle, this can work. read more
