I've been a fan of Chi'Lantro since it first opened. The food is always delicious and I've never had any complaints with the customer service, until about the last three times I've visited. The two women on the front clearly did not want to be there. They did not make eye contact, did not speak up, and had that "throw my weight around" attitude that nobody wants to deal with. I tried out Chi'lantro for the first time. Unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. I got the noodle bowl with tofu. Although the noodles were fantastic, the tofu and topping weren't that great. I don't think Korean and Mexican food make s good combo. Maybe with the fries it would be different. Another thing that I noticed was the price was pretty high and the portions were really small. A rice bowl or burrito at chipotle is like 2 full meals for me and costs less, where here I barely got 1 meal. Something to note: the staff are really friendly and the gentlemen that helped me out did a great job at explaining their different options and even let me have a small noodle sample. I'm glad I tried it out but I don't think this is for everyone. ----------- Updated review (10/26/17) So I decided to check out Chilantro again and had a much better experience this time. The staff were friendly and helpful as usual but this time I asked for extra noodles. By doing that, there was much more substance and I still have leftovers! I ordered the noodle bowl with tofu, black beans and grills veggies. Next to the noodles in the same box, they put a cold salad. I chose chopped lettuce/cabbage, zucchini and carrots. I asked for the kimchi sauce on the side. Although the sauce did taste good, it was not spicy. The manager/owner was walking around asking how the meal was and I requested something spicier to put on it. He brought our sriracha and that made a big difference. I'm still not 100% on Korean/Mexican fusion or any of the strange Mexican fusion combinations Austin has thought up but I did have a good filing meal and get outstanding customer service. I initially was skeptical about trying Chi'lantro, but I'm really glad I gave it a chance. I generally try to avoid gimmicky hipster chain places, but the food here really is delicious and the patio is a great place to sit and people watch on a sunny day. I ordered a noodle bowl. I wasn't sure how the different toppings would go together, but I just had faith it would blend perfectly and added every topping I knew I liked on its own, and it did. My partner had the spicy chicken tacos and wasn't blown away. Definitely get the magic sauce on whatever you decide to order. The absolute best part of Chi'lantro? THE WINGS!!! Oh my goodness they are good. Perfectly fried with the spicy, sweet, smoky sauce, MMMMM! We've already been back for just wings twice. I highly recommend them, even if they are all you order! First ummm ummm so good, i've been to the food trucks in houston, but this brick and mortar is way better. I order the Wings in sweet and spicy with the spicy ranch and they were really good. Then we order the kinchy fries, no kimchi (yea, i know -__-) and extra beef, it was bad at all, but i fell in love with the spicy pork. Then we tried the rice bowl with everything (they guy looked at me like O_O) and i said yes put it all in there mister, and i asked for extra spicy pork. If i could buy this pork on a daily basis and eat it with just plain white rice, I'll be set for a whole year. I just went to Chi'lantro for the first time with a good friend of mine, and oh boy let me tell you I was impressed. The servers thought I was an idiot which always feels good, and the food was delicious. I was absolutely wet after my first bite. For my drink, I made the executive decision to try the basil peach lemonade and shit SLAPS. I sipped on it and before you know it, butthole moist. I actually shit myself nine times before I was halfway done. By the end of my meal, my friend had ditched me because I couldn't stop orgasming and shitting myself at the table, but I went for another bowl. I heard how amazing this place is and I wanted to try it for myself. So I went to their food truck and tried the fries with chicken and my boyfriend had the same thing except he orders beef. They were HUGE! You really get your monies worth here. Now I liked his more than I liked the chicken ones that I ordered. They are pretty messy so make sure you have lots of napkins. I personally wasn't a fan of the one that I ordered. They were super sweet and my fries got soggy fast. The beef one's are a different story, they were very good, just a bit rich in flavor for me. I recommend anyone to try this because they are so different and unique. I just didn't enjoy the one that I ordered. I would be willing to go back and try something else though. So aside from being a ripoff ($8.65 for a small box of fries with kimchi/pork and other toppings on it) this was awful. I like Korean food. I like Mexican food. Together these flavor profiles just straight up do not work though. My kimchi fries within a couple minutes were basically a goop of orange and red sauce kimchi pork onions cheese etc. I wasn't able to finish this which is pretty surprising for how small it looks. I threw the 60% of this I'd eaten up into my toilet about 10 minutes after getting home and was thankful for the fact because eating this made me feel just terrible for the half hour or so it was in my stomach. I was literally relieved to be able to expunge this stuff from my body. I don't recommend this place. Really gross and bizzare combination of flavors that just doesn't work and only serves to make you sick. If you gave a freshman culinary arts F student Mexican/Korean ingredients and a bag of weed they'd probably concoct something like this. Our bowl maker guy only made one half of the order. We sat with half the order waiting, watching all the employees go in the back to talk, come out on their phones behind the counter, mill about. I had eaten my friends food and the chips and salsa, which tasted fine, but I never got my wings. After I was full off of my friends food, I asked for it to go. They used the wings that had been sitting in the fryer, and didn't really seem to acknowledge that they had just messed up, which is fine but it wasn't rush, and there were no other people in line with us, and there were 4+ employees that were migrating in and out from behind the counter. I want to like this place! I've been to this location 3x and another one once. Their meat portions are too small for bowls and the salad, a scoop gives you 5 pieces that are stuck together. My boyfriend got tacos and because the tortillas were so small, the meat on his was overloaded. I just feel like portion sizes and prices need to be adjusted. Also, service here has been hit or miss. Either, they are super excited you are there or wishing you would go away. We came on an early weekend lunch and I knew they were like WTF, but don't open at 10:30 if you don't expect people to come in. Maybe the weekend crew needs to get the happy memo. I love the build-your-own concept - it's always nice to pile some extra veggies on top of your kimchi fries so that you can feel a *little* better about eating all that saucy fried goodness. Portions were generous, too. In addition to the Maine root drink selection that other locations have, they had a peach basil lemonade and a yaupon tea- both pleasant surprises and delicious. Parking is intimidating at first but there's spots on the first floor in the garage right behind the the building. I was hesitant at first when my friend told me it was Mexican/Korean fusion, but I'm so glad I went with him. Barbara Corcoran is invested in Chi'Lantro, and most of her food investments have done tremendously well. And this is no exception. This location has parking in the garage beside it, so no worries about street parking if that isn't your thing. The location is clean, sleek, and I was greeted upon opening the door. The menu is clear, and easy to decide what you want. I got a burrito with spicy chicken and added queso. So good. If you're tired of chipotle, give this a try, way more flavor for about the same price. and their burritos are huge. I've never been a big fan of kimchi, but since their kimchi fries are their staple, I gave them a shot and I wasn't disappointed. Overall, great experience with even better food. Simply put: Top Notch Service, Top Notch Food. Having never tried chilantro before, I didn't know what to expect. I ended up getting the kimchi fries and noodle bowl with rib eye steak. The sauce on the fries is amazing and the bowl is a great Latin/Korean fusion. I ended up digging into the wings (which are double fries for extra crispyness) and they were amazing. We love this place. Nothing fancy but packed with flavor. Everything tastes like it has that extra bit of time and love put in it. The kimchi fries are a must have. The sauce is outstanding. I don't care for the way they do their pork (lots of gristle) but the soy glazed chicken is amazing. The last time we had it, it seems the kimchi was a bit rushed. Needed a little more time and to b chopped a bit finer but the flavor was still solid. I also tried their rice bowl which was good. The veggies were fresh, the rice was well cooked and the portion was nice. It came with a curry sauce that wasn't popping with flavor. I may get the kimchi fries sauce for next time.
