Convenient location near campus and incredibly kind staff. The food is pretty good and extremely well-priced. My only complaint is that I think the food could be slightly better---I would favor higher prices and slightly higher quality, but the economics of this location might favor the current setup. The portions are huge. I enjoyed the grilled fish entree, which was a generous portion of two grilled fishes, a mini seafood pancake, and scoops of fried rice, steamed rice, and kimchi. I found it disappointing that it was packaged in a styrofoam box, instead of being packed in a reusable, or at least recyclable container. This is probably the most authentic korean comfort food you can find on campus. This is also my favorite korean place within walking distance on UT campus. I think Oma's does a phenomenal job with price, service, and quality of the food. At peak finals week, I would come here very week and at one point every day to get some nice home cooked-vibe meal. My go to order is always their Yukgaejang (Spicy Beef Noodle Soup) and their Pork Bulgolgi. The Spicy Beef Noodle soup is a great option if you want something relatively light, it comes with bean sprouts, beef, glass noodles, and veggies along with a side of rice and side dishes. It always leaves me feeling super satisfied and full, this soup is a bit more on the oil/grease side but you will not be disappointed. Their Pork Bulgolgi is probably one of the most popular options among UT students here. It is basically side dishes with picked veggies, marinated pork, and rice. It's a super simple meal that is really well balanced. In terms of other menu items, I've heard and given mixed reviews about them. I experimented a bit with the menu and through my trial and error, I would say the two I stuck with are the stand outs in the menu for me. The portion size and the price point here is really great especially for students and it provides a nice escape from all the processed foods on campus. It was such a large portion size, it lasted me three meals! The rice cake was really good, just the right texture and chewiness. Nice place for high quality but low cost food! The portions on the meals here are HUGE. Guaranteed to make you full. Price is very reasonable, usually $7.99 to about $10 for the whole meal. If you want to save on drinks, they even give you a cup so you can get free tea or water at the tea station. The food has good ingredients. I ordered the seafood soup, and I can see it actually had quite a bit of seafood in it, with a large shrimp, some pieces of squid, and mussels as well. The amount of seafood is actually more than what I usually see at up-scale korean restaurants, which usually charges $13 to $15 for the same thing. This place, Oma's, only charges $7.99. What a deal! Oma's Kitchen is tucked away in a corner inside Dobie Food Court - making it a bit more difficult to find, but offers some amazing food. The shop is run by an old Korean couple that are so kind and cute. This was one of my go to places when I was in college, as it offers a cheap but hearty meal. They have extremely reasonable prices and often will provide you with additional rice upon request. I usually get the seafood soondubu jjiage (soft tofu soup) which comes in a big aluminum container and comes with rice and miso soup. The dish comes with a lot of seafood and is more than enough for one person. I have also gotten the kimbap and the pork bulgolgi - both of which are also very delicious. I think everything is quite good at Oma's and have not heard any bad things about any of the items on the menu. Oma's was ran by a nice elderly man when I came in. He was patient and so sweet. There is an extensive menu when you look on the menu and nearly everything is $8. With that being said, it comes with free miso soup, iced tea and some sides. The portions here are ginormous! I had the kimbap to-go and I even shared it with my friends and still felt full. I feel like there could be leftovers for pretty much every plate. My friend got the kimchi fried rice and that to go plate was PACKING. The Kim Bap itself was really flavorful. It was made with meat which is more expensive than other kimbaps I've had. I got two rolls with some radish on the side. Also its family owned and the owners are this cute Korean couple that make an effort to get to know you and take care of you!!! The bathrooms are communal but who cares? * PRE COVID REVIEW * I haven't been to Oma's in a while, but it's a pretty good spot for Korean food outside of Kbop around UT. The price is really good for the quantity and the food tastes pretty good, plus the old grandma and grampa that run this place are really nice, but I do have some problems with this place. If you do go to Oma's I would recommend the Bibimbop. The Udon and Ja Jang Myun are also not bad. The portions are pretty large so you can probably split it into more than one meal if you aren't hungry. You get side dishes, miso soup, and what I'm pretty sure is Barley Tea for free with your meal. The side dishes change from day-to-day sometimes but they've always been really good! If you want a meal to-go, they are super nice and get everything in a bag for you. I would give Oma's five stars, but I'm pretty sure they give different amounts of rice to you based on your gender. I was here with a friend one time and we ordered the same thing, but when we went to pick up our food they kind of insisted that one was for me and one was for my friend.
