After trying Chi'Lantro's food truck many moons ago at Nocturnal Fest, Fun Fun Fun Fest and this past SXSW I am finally writing a review. My most recent experience with the food trailer was their catering menu during the Class of 2015 #RepublicSX. There were so many hungry festival goers yet the line moved super smooth, the Chi'Lantro crew definitely knows team work. The first night of the event I had the chicken sliders which is a catering menu item. The chicken was well seasoned topped with magic sauce. The hint of spice, toppings and soft bun were perfect. The second night I had their freaking amazing beef street taco. When I indulge I want it to be amazing and their streeet tacos were oh so worth it. The rib eye bulgogi was rich and flavorful. The cilantro, onions, Chi'Lantro salsa, sesame seeds, and lime wedge and fresh corn tortillas complimented the meat perfectly. They also serve tofu as a protein option and they have some gluten free menu items. Chi'Lantro is known for their gorgeous original kimchi fries and for a first time visit these are a must. The fries come with your choice of ribeye bulgogi, spicy pork, spicy chicken, soy glazed chicken or marinated tofu, then topped with caramelized kimchi, cheddar & Monterey jack cheese, onions, fresh cilantro, spicy magic sauce, sesame seeds and sriracha. 1st time trying Chi'Lantro always saw my co workers eating it so i decided to try it, for some reason it looked like it was like Chipotle but it's nothing like it. I got the rice bowl w/spicy chicken, chilantro, cheese, tortilla strips, black beans. i give it a 6/10. Not bad read more

Brought some yelp pros here to try out the trailer culture and boy, were we all impressed. I am just now getting to this place (i know, i know 38291 years behind the times). It totally rocked my socks off. Not only were they fast, competent and took cards but they also had a weird lower area full of iced down drinks that could not have looked more delicious in the hot day. I took the yelpers advice and grabbed a beef taco and a chicken taco, add kimchee, add spicy. The folks with me had similar and ventured forth into the world of korean drinks. One involved grapes and one had some coconut action. Both were totally refreshing considering the fact that the tacos melted my face off. All in all, these guys are doing it right. Fast, fusion, cheap, and right next to kebabalicious so they're not totally responsible for the happiness of those folks that wander up. One word of advice: add misters. Late Night Korean Taco Truck...yeah such a thing exists. Come before 2 am beecause if you come after you might be waiting until 3 am before you get your tacos. Any skepticism I had regarding Korean/Mexican fusion vanished the instant I bit into my spicy tofu and spicy pork tacos today. They were delicious! Both tofu and pork fillings were tasty; the pork especially was packed with flavour. The shredded lettuce was fresh and crisp. The tortillas (2 per taco) were warm and soft. Together with kimchee and red sauce, it all translated into a fantastic combination. Two tacos, unfortunately, were not enough for my ravenous appetite. I had a taste of Chi'Lantro when I visited Austin for the first time in April 2013 and I couldn't wait to go back for more. So, 3 months later my bf and I decided to visit Austin again and, of course, we had to stop by Chi'Lantro. It wasn't part of the plan but this lucky girl got to eat Chi'Lantro TWICE in the same night! First time was at 7th and Trinity and second was at 5th and Colorado. While walking back to our hotel from the Warehouse District, lo and behold, out of the corner of my eyes there was the Chi'Lantro truck! I was so happy that I might have sprinted to the truck. The first time we ate at Chi'Lantro, per Yelpers recommendations, we ordered the Kimchi Fries, Tacos with beef and Korean Burger with beef. My bf and I liked the tacos best. The beef has that semi-sweet korean marinade taste. The salad and cilantro give the tacos a fresh taste. I don't know what's in the Chi'Lantro salsa, but it really ties all the ingredients together. I feel that the Kimchi Fries were just okay because they don't have enough kimchi. The Korean Burger was good. The beef is tender and full of flavor, with a slight taste of kimchi. This time back to Austin I knew I had to try the Cucumber Kimchi Burger because I had seen it on Chi'Lantro's facebook page (July special sandwich). We ordered 2 of these burgers and 2 Beef Tacos. One bite and we were in love. In my opinion, the Cucumber Kimchi Burger is the best item of ALL the food I ate in Austin. And trust me, I ate a whole lot over just 3 days in Austin. When ordering, you will be asked if you want the fried egg on it. YES YOU DO! The burger is so good because it has a bunch of tastes rolled in one - salty and sweet from the beef, rich and creamy from the sauce and egg, and bright and fresh from the cucumber slices. The tacos were delicious as always. Argh! Why doesn't Tampa Bay have food like this?!?! I would eat at Chi'Lantro everyday if I lived in Austin. Give it a try! read more

After much hype over this place and longstanding accolades, I joined the queue of hungry festival goers at FFF to try some Chi'lantro. Their kimchi fries are certainly the most well-known item on the menu, and I probably should've ordered those, but at the server's suggestion I went with the fried tofu tacos. Anything taco + sriracha + kimchi is bound to be delicious. And delicious they were although not as astounding as I had built them up to be in my mind. Perhaps it was the fact that the truck was at a festival and they were constantly churning out tacos, but they weren't as fresh as I had hoped. The flavors were good overall, but the fried tofu was a bit dry. The tortillas were soft and fresh and the cabbage added an extra crunch but it could've benefited from more sriracha. I would probably go back to try kimchi fries but will satisfy my taco cravings elsewhere. read more

One of the more legit food trailers. I got a pork bowl (snicker snicker) for like 6 bucks, plus a drink for I think another 2 bucks. The bowl was a decent size, not overly filling but just enough, and delicious. Pork, cilantro, onions, rice, everything. They had a big-ass dispenser of this fresca kind of drink made from cucumber and melon. I thought ti sounded awful but I tried it anyway, and I'm glad I did. One of the best food trucks I've been to. Wow. We came right as they were closing and their propane had run out... *but* even with semi-warm deep fried tofu and fries, the kimchee fries were no-muh ma-shi-suh! It's been 5 years since I've been to Austin, so this was my first look at the food truck phenomenon that has hit the city since my last visit to my favorite Texas city. My buddy picked me up from the airport and we made a beeline to downtown and a beeline to this truck. It did not disappoint. First off, the boys working the truck are as cool as the otherside of the pillow. They talked about their desire to be voted America's favorite food truck on FoodTV, and when they found out I was visiting from NYC we talked about the Korilla burrito truck. One of the dudes was headed to San Francisco the next day, so I suggested he take a look at BBQ Kalbi at Off the Grid in Ft. Mason. Great conversation about Food Trucks in general and you could tell, they were very passionate about what they were doing. Normally, I would've gotten a few items on the menu, but it was late and I was ready to get my drink on on 6th St. I got the Bulgogi Burger topped with fried egg. Yeah son! Fried egg. That's almost automatic 4 star. Overall the taste was great with one slight complaint. Use smaller buns and more orange sauce. The buns are toasted perfectly, but the bread slightly overpowers the bulgogi meat and the rest of the ingredients. The egg was super tasty and slightly runny so it more than made up for it. The flavoring on the beef could've been a little more strong, but I still devoured the thing in 4 minutes. Finally, something you don't see normally with a food truck...they take credit card!! First Korean food truck, was not disappointed. The food was pretty good, we had the following: - Kimchi fries - Caramelized Kimchi, a mound of sizzling Korean BBQ, chopped grilled onions, cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese, cilantro, magic sauce, sriracha and sesame seeds. Having versed myself with all that is Kogi, I decided to try the Korean/Mexican fusion out of California. Braving an un-Texas like frigid morning, we ordered the Spicy pork rice bowl since we were going to continue our Austin food truck adventure. The Spicy pork rice bowl is lime butter rice is topped with romaine lettuce in a soy vinaigrette, cilantro, onion, cheddar and Monterrey jack cheese, and spicy pork. It might have been the cold, but the bowl wasn't very hot. And the amount in the container itself wasn't very filling either. Good try, but not good enough. read more

In Austin you are faced with a TON of food truck choices. It is often the hardest decision of your day, trying to figure out which one to indulge in. Especially at an event or festival where they are lined up nice and pretty beckoning you to their windows to give your order. At the New Year's Eve festival downtown, my husband and I decided to try a little bit of this and a little bit of that (apparently making hard decisions is not in the cards for 2017). I worked downtown this past year, across the street from Chi'Lantro, and cannot say enough good things about it! The line can get long during peak times, so if you work nearby, I would pop down around 11:30 or 11:45 to avoid the lunchtime crowd. Despite the lines, the service is great and everyones orders come through quickly. The staff is very friendly and I've never had a problem with an incorrect order! The location at the post office is just grab and go (no seating or parking) and caters to people who work downtown or at the Capitol. I normally order a salad bowl with beef, veggies, and the carrot ginger sauce. It's easy to make Chi'Lantro light and healthy, or more substantial with rice noodles! Note that this location (at the post office on Congress) does not have kimchi fries. if you work downtown, or are visiting the Capitol and want a quick lunch, I would highly recommend Chi'Lantro! read more

I moved out of LA just as the gourmet food craze hit so when I went back some time ago to visit a business partner, he pointed out "Korean bbq tacos!" with an enthusiastic shout one night when we were out in Venice. Sounded delicious! We had just eaten a big meal, however, and I could not possibly eat one. So, you must imagine my excitement when, on the way home to my hotel for the night, I spotted Chilantro. These guys had been on vacation the last time I was in Austin. I wanted one of their Korean BBQ bowls (served over rice, with a fried egg on top if you want. I, of course, want). I was not disappointed. Cilantro is not an ingredient that occurs in Korean cooking, and I suppose I should confess here that ultimately, that's what I care about most in a food truck. I don't care about the food truck proclaiming to be the "best burger" or "best sandwich" around. Who cares about that? I want something that's edgy, challenging, and fusion. On Friday night, since we were in the area to watch the touristy bat bridge to watch the bats come out at night (that never came out at all that night)...We thought we'd take a trip out by 6th Street and check out the food trucks. Living here for only a few months, I've had my eye on a few food trucks and ChiLantro was one of them. So glad I *FINALLY* was able to check them out..I attempted to grab a bite during SXSW but that was just madness! Right about 9:15pm or so we ended up with the one on 5th and Colorado..and after scoping out a few things on the menu, we decided on the Seoul Burrito with Beef Bulgogi and the monthly special, the Sweet Nutty Burger. Saved for the Seoul Burrito for later as we had the Sweet Nutty Burger for our dinner. When I thought of ordering it at first...I thought it kind of sounded like a weird combination but went ahead and ordered anyway. SO glad that I've done so! The combinations of the Beef bulgogi, plantains and peanut buttery taste just meshed well together! If I was only in the area today, I would've grabbed another! It was sooo totally worth the $6! Had their Seoul Burrito for lunch on Saturday and yet another winner! With the tasty goodness of beef bulgogi, their soy vinaigrette, cheese, rice, fried egg...and other ingredients..I loved every bite. The flavors were still spot on and ChiLantro you've won my heart! ChiLantro's is great! I definitely visited at least once a month during my years at UT. As most reviews will mention, I agree that the kimchi fries are the best option on the menu. On nearly every occasion at any eatery, I will pick beef as my protein. Yet I recently discovered that ChiLantro's chicken kimchi fries actually do it for me more than the beef. The bulgogi beef is a more crumbly texture, where it's not as easy/enjoyable to eat with the fries. I prefer chicken because it's chunky pieces take on the flavor of the sauces better. The beef bulgogi burger is another great option, especially if you want a hearty helping of beef. It's flavorful, moist and just slightly spicy. I'm also a big fan of the chicken quesadillas. It's got a lot of kimchi flavor and is one of the more spicy options on the menu. It also comes with spicy mayo sauce on the side to dip. If i'm not in the mood to spend more for the kimchi fries, the spicy fries are a good accompaniment with the quesadillas. I don't care much for the tacos or burritos. I can never finish the huge burritos on my own, and it's not something you can really save and heat up later. I don't enjoy the texture of the tortillas. They're weirdly dry and powdery for my taste. The food truck idea isn't a new concept, as many other reviewers have mentioned and chilantro offers tacos,burritos, quesadillas, hot dogs and burgers. Taco's are priced about $2 dollars and the others are $5 dollars. They also offer korean drinks and snacks in the front!! I ordered the spicy chicken and spicy pork taco, both with kimchee. Wowza the spicy pork was SO flavorful, tender, and juicy. The lettuce and kimchee on top add a lil crunch and doesn't take the taste away from the meat. The spicy chicken was alright but i prefer the spicy pork! I also got the grape bonbon drink which was a childhood fave of mine. This is one of my favorite food trucks in the Austin area, and their fusion food is delicious! I have heard that the kimchi sauce on the kimchi fries (my favorite item) is not vegetarian, so veggies might want to check on that if they visit. Nonetheless, there are plenty of options for vegetarians and meat-lovers alike. From tacos to fries to kimchi frie burritos, there are a number of creative combinations available to eat, and they are all delicious! I was visiting a friend and heard people rave about Chi'Lantro so I stalked this food truck. After running up and down the block I was SO HAPPY when I found it. Ordered kimchi fries with beef, tacos with chicken, and quesadillas with tofu...for two people. It was a bit much, it was a bit heavy, BUT IT WAS SO GOOD, and I don't even like kimchi much? I really wanted to try everything on the menu, but I only had one stomach and it was one of my last days in town. So sad. I'll have to try the rest of the menu next time I'm in town. :) read more

Note that this review is just for the kimchi fries, but that is an amazing dish! I've had kimchi fries at other Korean fusion food trucks, but these were definitely the best I've had. We got ours with beef and we were telling our friends about them the rest of the trip! You get a pretty good sized order of fries with beef, cheese, onion, cilantro, and sauce all drizzled over the fries. The flavors blend so well together and you won't stop munching on them until they're gone! A few things that I liked about these fries... 1. The fries were hot and crispy, not soggy. 2. The kimchi taste was not overpowering at all (I'm not a huge kimchi fan) 3. They give you a good amount of toppings (meat, cheese) Try them, they're awesome! read more

When it was late or the food at the campus dining halls was "ok" at best, Chilantro is always that good friend who has your back. My go-to order is their Bulgogi Burrito. The beef is marinaded nicely and the free egg that you can add is a must. The burrito as a whole is huge and many times I find myself struggling to finish it. I just went back and had their burrito for the first time in more than an year, and I found out that they added black beans to the burrito. Although I understand the concept, the texture of the beans doesn't compliment well with the bulgogi and the tortilla. However, this definitely won't stop me from coming back again and again! If you have a big stomach or with a group, get the Kimchi Fries with Bulgogi! The sauce is delicious, and the kimchi adds a nice kick. Its trifecta of crunchy, spicy, and salty makes for an amazing side dish (or main dish!). Unsure cause you're not a fan of kimchi? Neither am I, but give me a plate of these fries and they'll be gone very quickly. Chilantro is my FAVORITEEE place to get korean bbq tacos. Out of all the trucks I have visited in Texas, this is by far the best. The kimchi fries are THE BOMB! Of course I always come here after the bar so the line is always so long. I would recommend if you are going here after the bar, make sure you leave the bar early! The prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. The food always seems fresh (although coming out of a food truck.) Now my only wish is that they will come to Dallas! read more

Visiting Austin from LA I was looking for places to eat last night and I saw that ChiLantro was going to be near The Domain, which is like 8 minutes from where I was and the time frame they were going to be there fell right in align with my lunch time. Kimchi fries, and bulgogi tacos. Sounds pretty good right? Nah. The fries are soggy, and absolutely lacking in Kimchi. I swear, I only tasted a couple of pieces of Kimchi here and there. The tacos are not nearly enough food for the money, not to mention they're not that great to begin with. The corn tortillas aren't very good either, although I don't like corn tortillas in general. There is, without a doubt, a food truck near you that has better food for the same or less money. I don't understand how this has become so popular. This truck was super busy at SXSW when I went (and the place was seemingly swarming with Chi'Lantro trucks), and looked busy again when it showed up to my office building today. Dropped by towards the end of a long weekend of "traditional" BBQ, in search of some good fusion tacos like I remembered on my previous visit. This time, I chose two tacos, chicken and tofu, and they were delicious. The Korean salad was very fresh, and the the tacos were fairly substantial in size and in filing ratio. The sauce was spicy and delicious as well. However, the star of the night was the pork kimchi fries that one of my fellow diners had. Wow, I have to admit, I had some doubts going in, but damn, these things were good. They were, at once, gooey and sinful, yet fresh and almost, dare I say it, "light" tasting. A very interesting, and very good, fusion dish. This place is worth looking up. We've only visited on Saturdays when it's been at 5th and Colorado, but I'd follow it just about anywhere for some of that great Korean fusion food. read more

Exclaimer: I had a few drinks and I was here at 3am Came to the corner where all the good trucks were and there were tons of people around at every truck so I knew I had to stop. As soon as I saw the Korean BBQ truck, I had no other choice. Even at 3am, the line was still 10 people long but I decided to wait. I ordered the burrito, and it was great. Very tasty, you could really get a good grasp on the different flavors in the burrito. It was also decent size so I was definitely not hungry after ordering. Where so many other shops can't show up properly, Chi'Lantro has filled in the gap. I come here a lot. Pros: * Quality food, consistent, friendly people * Reasonable variety given that it's a food truck Cons: * Location is a bit of a pain, you've got to stand around awkwardly in front of a post office. * Occasionally run out of things if you arrive after 1:00 pm.
