Love this place! Found it on yelp when we were looking for breakfast. Our server was Sara (she was excellent and very sweet) but all the staff were very nice and helpful. I had the biker breakfast (eggs, bacon, hash browns, and pancakes) and my boyfriend had the breakfast burrito - all the items were delicious and they came out quickly and piping hot on a busy Sunday late morning. Coffee pot left on the table was a nice touch! Childers Eatery will now be a staple for us. read more

For a breakfast place I was disappointed. My coffee cup was left empty, despite sitting near the kitchen. I think the shift was ending and the place was not busy, and there were a lot of staff not doing much other than talking. The pancakes were doughy, if you like it that way ok, but I can do just as well with a mix from a box at home. I would have given only two stars but the side of banana bread was unusually good . Stopped here for breakfast while in town on a short business trip and was pleasantly surprised. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, the food was tasty and the portions were generous for the price. I'm a bit of a tea elitist perhaps, only drinking loose leaf, but figured I had to relax my standards while traveling, so I was very pleased when I was brought out an Adagio strainer with some decent quality loose leaf earl grey and offered refills on the hot water. If I ever end up back in Peoria I'd definitely come back here. read more

They are always busy. It is indicative of their service and food quality. It can also lead to varying experiences over time. I have been in and out in extremely short order, and not in a fashion I felt rushed. I have sat and waited for a server as if my table wasn't assigned, for quite some time. I have never had bad food at any of their locations. I have eaten at the catering location, the University location across from Walmart, and the north Knoxville location. The menu is varied and good. The north location's construction makes it very noisey inside. I have some anxiety issues around noise. This is my issue, not theirs. I mention it only to say that I find the University location much more comfortable, and worth waiting at the door for a table. If we have friends from out of town overnight, we try to breakfast here, we find it that good and unique. read more

Wow! What an excellent place for breakfast. Wish we had discovered this place sooner, we didn't know what we were missing. Huge breakfast menu with an entire section for Eggs Benedict. The meals were great. The coffee was average. We ordered the plain Eggs Benedict. My side dish was Oatmeal with Quinoa. I was really bland and did not come with anything like honey or brown sugar. The food was delicious. The service bordered between mediocre and bad. For what you are paying the portions are a bit lacking. Ordered bottomless coffee and only received one refill even though my cup was empty the majority of the time. The decor and ambiance of the restaurant were great. It was clean (minus the restroom) and bright. The doors were open and weather was perfect making for an enjoyable experience. Finally, the waitress swipes your card at the table with an iPad and you are expected to tip them while they are right beside you. My go to breakfast spot. Food is hot and fresh. I prefer the university location to the junction city one because it feels less stuffy. Watch out for the parking lot, not the easiest thing to get in and out of. They changed the menu recently and got rid of the banana bread. Childers is one of those restaurants that doesn't look...open when you first pass by it. In fact, I found myself passing it whenever I was in the car and I paid no attention to it until I saw reviews on Yelp. I decided to give it a try when my boyfriend was in town and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere is cute and cozy, servers were friendly, and the food is absolutely delicious--perfect for breakfast! I can't wait to go again. The only thing I would change is the parking. Childers is a modern American restaurant which would fit in, within any city or suburb of Illinois. The decore is bright and modern. The tables and chairs are solid, no wobbly old stuff here. The coffee was tasty. The setup was pre packaged, and that is a shame because it would up their coffee game doing fresh cream and sugar in the raw. The cups were mix and match which I like. That gives it a homey feel. The staff was warm, comley and welcoming. Any time the waitress lets you know their name and says just let me know if you need anything it is a sign of good service. The biscuits were fresh made this morning. The gravy was tasty with chives and sausage. It was light in color but the did not skimp on it. The flavor it not traditional, but it was good. A full order is 3 biscuits split in 1/2 so note that. I order the eggs over easy on top and they also came out perfectly. The whole order was put in via a pad computer so that adds to the modern decor. The bacon was over done and fairly thin cuts, so I would skip that next time. Overall this is a great place in p-town that I would come back to. I think I will try the eggs benidict next time as they also looked good. read more

This restaurant is very good. It's pretty busy most of the time so long wait but it is worth it. If there's a line at the beginning, it'll be a lot longer. Their Belgian waffles are delicious and so are their toppings. The strawberry topping is just frozen reheated strawberries. They have an array of coffee creamers and sugars. I love Childers! They have a great breakfast selection and I love the diner feel. Their mushroom, spinach, green onion, and feta.cheese omelet is delicious. I also love their bacon...can taste it now. Since breakfast is my favorite meal of the day I will be back! Their lunch selection is also very good. Why don't I go here more often? I've been a couple of times and every time I go I'm so blown away by it that I call my mom (a breakfast food fanatic) to talk about it. Where to start? They have amazing waffles and pancakes. Seriously. Amazing. You won't find better anywhere. I don't normally eat pork products, but I make the occasional exception for biscuits and gravy. Childers' don't disappoint. I'm not the biggest egg eater, but my husband usually gets omlettes here. I've tried them and they are very good. I just looked at the menu to jog my memory, and I noticed they don't have their fresh juices on here anymore. They used to have, but looking at the menu may no longer have, fresh juices. They got me hooked on fresh carrot juice. If you're looking for good breakfast in Peoria, this is your place. It isn't fancy, but it is so good. read more

Holy Lord Almighty this place is amazing!! My boyfriend and I stayed in Peoria last night, so I hopped on Yelp to find a place for breakfast, and once again an amazing place came up. The food is SO GOOD!! Our server was so happy & smiling all the time, you could feel her happiness radiating off of her. As for food, I got the lemon forest berry French toast. Lemon poppy seed French toast!! Like what!! It's topped with fresh fruit and lemon curd, so like HELLO it's amazing. My boyfriend got the chorizo biscuits and gravy in the Peoria breakfast meal. Breakfast was great this morning. We're always looking for something other than the standard fare, so it was nice to have a little more of an eclectic menu to choose from. I had the Bacon Chicken Pesto Omelet, and it was chock full of chicken, artichokes and spinach - just delicious. It could have used a little more bacon, but the basil and sun dried tomato pesto made up for it. The flavor popped off my plate and into my mouth. This is one of the best places in Peoria to get a delicious breakfast for inexpensive. It also has a small town feel in that almost all the customers in the mornings are regulars. I've only ever ordered the Biscuits and Gravy because I'm a major fan, as well as sausage and hot chocolate. But when you know what you like, why change things around? One of the few breakfast menus that includes vegetables, and fresh ones grown at site at that! (Yes, veggies for breakfast is a good thing). Coffee is strong. Lunch sandwiches are just plain good. Very well seasoned pork in the Cuban sandwich, borderline salty. But very good. Water comes with cucumber slice. Nice touch. Quite refreshing. I had the smoked salmon Benedict, my girlfriend had the diabolos Benedict, which she said was good but marred by the slightly soggy sourdough (gluten free option). I found the cottage fries to be really good as well. Coffee - typical diner coffee. Probably maxwell house or folgers. Fake creamers at the tables, which kind of sucks, but they at least had a flavor selection. Decor - not very much character. Large photos of food on the wall like a Denny's. We had the worst experience on Mother's Day. Wanted to try Childers Eatery as we had heard great things. Went to Childers at Junction City shopping center in Peoria. Wait time was an hour and a half. No problem, so we decided to go to Childers on University in Peoria. Walked in and hostess asked for name and telephone number and advised she would call when our name was called. Said wait time should be about 25 minutes. After 40 minutes, my daughter went in to inquire. She was told our name had been called and that we were not suppose to have waited outside. I walked inside and the hostess asked me name and how many in my party. I pointed at my name on her list and told her there is my name crossed off and you did not call us. She then told me that I was told to wait inside and I replied that no, she did not tell me that and that she asked for my telephone number and told me she would call me when it was our turn. She then tried to tell me the manager told her she was not to be calling people. I understand it was Mother's Day and that the restaurant was very busy. However, she should never have taken my telephone number and not called me. And had she then been told not to be taking phone numbers, she should have been given courtesy of letting us know. In the end, we went to Bob Evans, all very hungry, and brunch was delicious. I will not give Childers Eatery on University my business. read more
